Getting second login: Password Needed - Network?

I have a site on IIS 5.0 that is using Basic and integrated NT authentication. The site contains a page that loads an applet. Prior to upgrading to JVM 1.4.1 everything worked fine - a NT login box would pop up on connecting to the site - after a successful login the page and applet would load. After the upgrade, when the page with the applet loads I am presented with a second login box - "Password Needed - Network".
I've tried excluding the site address from the proxy server using both the IE settings and the JVM settings, but no luck. Any ideas?
Thanks!

    Hi, this is what I did and how it looks;
After reading the posts I contacted NetAway, (they are a roaming pay as you go ISP, you can use local dial-up numbers world wide), they told me to type my user ID with the addition of @netaway.com. It isn't an email address although I can see why you ask. The ID with password accesses the Netaway website to check your available minutes and to buy more.
In the Network Dialog Box (under System Preferences) the password still shows 24 dots/characters, my Netaway password is only 8, I only entered the 8 characters but after pressing 'apply' the password field changed from 8 to 24 characters?
The Internet Connect dialog box (was automatically filled) shows 10 characters?
After pressing 'Connect' despite the password fields (see above) both looking wrong I'm able to dial-up, authenticate account and successfully connect!
I can see this seems illogical, as a new mac user I sometimes struggle to understand how certain areas of OSX work!
Please feel free to ask if this is unclear.

  • Issue: Password needed - networking

    Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the proper place in the forums for this question, but here goes anyway:
We have a Windows Server 2003 set up to host an applet program over the internet. This applet is designed to access and display a certain type of file (let's say a .xer file). By giving the Internet Guest Account read permissions on a folder containg all the needed .xer files, the client applet can access them just fine. Each .xer file is a script that is interpreted by the applet program. However, we discovered that a user could also download the .xer files by just typing in the proper URL in the browser. We don't want the user to do this, because he/she can then see the enitre file, not just what the applet is supposed to interpret. So, part one of our problem is that we want the apple tot be able to access these .xer files, but we don't want them to be accessible through the browser.
To try and solve this, we attempted to deny all permissions to the folder with the .xer files, for just the Internet Guest Account. This solves the problem of the browser being able to access them from the client side, but a new problem appeared. Now whenever the applet tries to access a .xer file (via a http:// request), a dialog box appears entitled "Password Needed - Networking". This box also appears when an .xer file is trying to be downloaded from the browser. This is where it get's even more interesting. From the browser, this box requires a proper username and password for the user to download the file. From the applet, no username or password is needed. In the applet, we can just click ok without filling out the fields, and the applet executes the .xer script. Thus, part two of our problem is how do we get rid of this "Password Needed - Networking" box in the applet, but keeping it for the browser?
Any help that anyone might give in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

There are GUI forums where questions about browsers are probably best asked.
There are security forums where questions about SSL are probably best asked.

  • Password Needed - Networking basic authentication twice??

Why do I have to authenticate twice??? Using basic authentication, IIS asks me my username and password but then I also get another popup from Sun JVM asking to login again! I've seen other posts on this topic with no solutions yet. Anyone have any idea? Sun, are you working on fixing this issue? I'm so sad that MSJVM will be discontinued. It was much faster and less problematic.

Nope, no answer yet. Until Sun addresses this problem, the only suggestion I can make is not to use the Sun JVM.
You can disable it in Internet Explorer by choosing:
    1. Tools
    2. Internet Options...
    3. Advanced
    4. Uncheck (disable): Use Java 2 v1.4.2_04 for <applet> (requires restart)
    5. Under Microsoft VM, should already be checked but if not check(enable): JIT compiler for virtual machine enabled (requires restart)
    Other reference: http://www.java.com/en/download/help/switchvm.jsp
Of course this is only a temporary workaround for now, but hopefully Sun will fix this before Microsoft completely ends their support for MSJVM on December 31, 2007.

    http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/faq.asp
New Microsoft products will not have MSJVM included so in that case you will need to find, download, and install msjavx86.exe (might be gambling on security if not the most updated version, oh well).
Personally, I don't care which company's JVM software I have to use, I just want one that completely works, is fast, and not problematic.

  • How do I get my Master Password?

Since I downloaded Yosemite I have had all sorts of problems. I need to find out what my Master Password is. The password that goes with my hint doesn't help. Is there a book I can get to help me figure some of these new things out?

    Hi Karen+R;
Happy Holidays!  The resource below will explain how to reset the User Admin account for your Macbook with Yosemite.
OS X Yosemite: Reset a login password
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH18653
Sometimes a user’s login password needs to be reset—for example, when the user has forgotten the login password and can’t use a password hint to remember it.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Log in to your account. In the login window, click the question mark in the password field, then click the arrow in the dialog that appears.
Enter an Apple ID and password, then click Reset Password.

New Imac. I get rid off login password from security and accounts and restart. Now it asks for username and password and it's not acepting anything. Any ideas?

First, reset your password as follows.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.
If you're being prompted to authenticate when making changes to files inside your home folder, continue as follows.
    Back up all data now.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:20 ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ 2> /dev/null
Be sure to select the whole line by triple-clicking anywhere in it. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar. A text window opens.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    resetpassword
That's one word with no spaces. Then press return. A Reset Password window opens. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Get rid of Password ( i don't want password on login how to remove )

    Hi
I am getting a Bit annoyed as I do not have a Password set on login or anything but every time i log on or install application, etc it comes up with the Password needed screen ( which i leave blank and push enter )
I just want to get rid of this Password screen altogether, so when i log on it does not ask me also when installing application, etc
so if anyone knows how to do this as i have tried all usual things in settings ( accounts and security ) but must be someway of getting rid of this ..
    Thanks Mark

Go into the System Preferences, and then into the "Accounts" area. At the bottom of the left hand pane is the "Login Options" button. This will open the subpage where you can enable "Automatic login". You will need to select your account from the list. Afterwards, the machine will start up and automatically log in to the account selected.
Now the warning... I would never do what you are attempting to do- on any machine running any operating system. Running without a password is bad enough. Letting the machine log in by itself is worse.

  • Password Needed to select a Wi-Fi Network Question

I am trying to learn how to use the GPS feature on my new I-phone, and they want me to select a wi-fi network, then I am instructed to put in a password. Where do I find this password, or am I supposed to make one? Thank you for your help.

Well, whoever it was that setup your network (in your house I mean), that is the person that setup the password. You will probably have to talk to him/her in order to get the wifi password. One good thing though, once you find that out and use your iPhone to connect to it, the iPhone should remember it so you don't have to continually put in the password over and over again.
Seeing as how you have a wifi network at your place there, you must have a wireless router. If you have access to your router settings, then you will be able to find out the wifi password as well (or shared key, whatever you want to call it). Most likely whoever set up the router/wifi settings, also password protected the router page. You will need that password to get into the router settings. From there it should be a piece of cake.

  • My admin login password was recently changed but I forgot it. I didn't get to shut off my mac, it entered sleep so now I cannot enter recovery mode.

I know it's a bad idea to change passwords when you're stressed but I changed my admin login password and promptly forgot it after 5 minutes (there was a big commotion in the background). The problem is that now I cannot enter recovery mode, I'm stuck with the user login screen. I can log in as a guest just fine, but I need access to my files on the Admin account.
Lastly, I also haven't linked my Apple ID to my AirBook, so that is out of the question too. What can I do to gain back control over my admin account, without wiping all my data? - Currently running OSX 10.9.4

Once I get into recovery mode, do I go through the migration set up process? Should I be logged out of my account on the old macbook before I set up the new one? I really thought I knew what I was doing but am seriously confused now.
    Thank you.

I spilled water on my laptop and my "i", "j" and "k" letters don't work on my laptop. However my main problem is that my password contains an "i" so i am locked out of my computer. Any ideas how I can get around the password and login. I tried the method where you go into single user mode and type in commands, however that method uses some of the letters that are not working on my laptop.

You didn't mention which version of OS X your running but there are password reset utilities provided OS X: Changing or resetting an account password (Snow Leopard and earlier) - Apple Support  or  OS X: Changing or resetting an account password - Apple Support
Alternately you can use an external keyboard to log in and change the password. Make a backup if you don't have one, it's likely that your problems aren't over. If that water continues to migrate downward and fries the logic board your macbook will be toast.

    Does the iPod work OK?
Does it charge when connect to the computer?
Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.

You can bypass the password and wipe the drive and return to the original facory installation if the seller included the orginal install DVDs with the Mac mini. If not you will need a retail version of Mac OS X.  To boot from the Install DVD restart the mini, immediately slip in the DVD and press and hold the C key.
