GHOST DRIVES? "VIDEO01" & "VIDEO01 1"? How to resolve?
I recently replaced my 8 year old Macs internal drives, meaning I can only use 128Gb of the 160Gb available; as 160Gb was the smallest IDE drives I could find locally. The system is back and working fine. (Just wanted to mention it).
I don't think that this problem is related, as it occurred before replacing the drives.
I have an internal storage drive called "VIDEO01". Finder see's it as "VIDEO01". All quiet normal.
However:
I have a couple of programmes where in the preferences I assign output to a particular drive. I always use "VIDEO01". Recently some of these programmes have NOT been working correctly. When I check the assignments in their preferences I see "VIDEO01 1" and not "VIDEO01". I've tried re-assigning to "VIDEO01" but the program keeps assigning to "VIDEO01 1".
Anyone know what's happening and how i get rid of "VIDEO01 1"?
Many Thanks.

in finder enter commandshiftg and in the resulting popup enter /volumes. this should open a finder window for /Volumes. it should contain mount point for all your drives which should look like aliases. there may be some phantom drives which look like regular folders. trash them (first check if there is anything you need inside) and restart. phantom drives should be gone.
Thanks V.K. That fixed the problem.

Had hard drive failure on MacBook 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, so had to rebuild the OS on new drive. Was on Lion 10.7.5 prior to failure, but had to reinstall Snow Leopard 10.6.3 since that was most recent OS on media I had. After finally getting ethernet connection to router working, was able to get to internet and download / upgrade to 10.6.8. I assume I can probably buy the upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8 from there.
Problem is this, Airport will not stop self-assigning IP address for my wireless connection, and unless I can get wireless back on this laptop, doesn't make a lot of sense to continue the rebuild and reinstall of all the software that was on it prior to HD failure. Only way to my home network and router is ethernet now. Everything else on my network (Apple MacBook Pro laptops, iPhones, desktops, and non-Apple printers and laptops) is hooking up to router wirelessly fine.
Any ideas how to resolve successfully so that the airport will stop self-assigning and allow the router to assign the IP address? When see the beachball cursor, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

I'm experiencing the same problem when connecting a laser controller (New Focus Vortex TLB-6000) via the Agilent E5810A to a PC.
There are no problems when connected through a regular serial port, but timeouts arise every few seconds through the E5810A. I have another controller (SRS LDC501) which works very well with a second Agilent console.
Have you managed to find a solution to this problem?

Please advise how to resolve error message - cannot be synced because it cannot be read from or written to.
Hello Janet,
I would recommend this article named 'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPod or 'Firmware update failure' error when updating or restoring iPod found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1207
Outdated operating system software
Make sure you have the latest updates for your operating system, which may include improvements for device connections. For example, many USB and FireWire improvements have been included in Windows Service Packs.Check for Mac OS X downloads. Check for Windows updates.
Computer needs updates
Make sure you have the latest updates available for your specific computer model (or components for home-built PCs). These are usually available for download on the support website for the maker of the PC (or component). Many USB updates are listed as "Intel chipset" or just "chipset" updates on PC manufacturer's support and download websites.
Software interference
Some software can interfere with iTunes, making it unable to write files to your iPod. Think about what software you have installed, and try disabling any add-ons that might be interfering with iTunes. Check your suspected software's documentation or contact the software maker if you need assistance with disabling the application. Out-of-date or incorrectly configured security software frequently causes this issue. See these steps for identifying and troubleshooting third-party security software.
Damaged files
If one of your music files or photos is damaged, iTunes may display one of these errors when transferring that file to the iPod. If you identify a file that is causing the error, try deleting that file and reimporting it from a backup file or from the original source. You may be able to repair files by repairing the disk (see the solutions in the next section).
Unregistered .dll files (Windows)
Malware or other software may cause an issue with the digital signing of Windows XP drivers. First try restoringthe iPod using the latest version of iTunes.. If you are unable to restore it or the symptom reappears, follow the steps in this document.
Damaged disk structure
These errors can also appear if the format of your computer's hard drive or your iPod disk is damaged.
To repair your computer's hard disk—Mac OS X users, read this article for instructions. Windows users, search the Help system in Windows for chkdsk to get more information on checking and repairing the disk structure.
To repair an iPod disk—Restore the iPod or iPod shuffle using the latest version of iTunes.
Warning: Be sure to back up your data before restoring an iPod. The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted.
Corrupt iPod photo Cache
If you're getting the error when transferring photos to an iPod photo, try deleting the iPod photo Cache and then starting the photo sync again.
Lost connection
Make sure that the connections from your computer to the iPod are snug and do not wiggle or come loose during transfers. For example, if you use the wrong size dock for your iPod, it can put strain on the connectors and cause a bad connection. See these articles for more information:
Learn about iPod Universal Dock
iPod Dock: Specifications
Conflict with third-party hardware
Third-party USB or FireWire devices may also interfere with iTunes' ability to communicate with your iPod. Remove all USB and FireWire devices except the keyboard and mouse before reconnecting your iPod to the computer.
Bad hardware
Hardware failure or non-compliant hardware can cause these errors. This could be an issue with iPod hardware or with the cable or dock you're using, but more often it's an issue with the USB or FireWire card or interface in your computer. Some USB and FireWire interfaces just don't work very well. If you isolate the issue to the USB or FireWire interface in your computer, you may want to try a different port, get the computer serviced, or replace the card or interface with a better one.
If you isolate the issue to an Apple-supplied cable or dock, or the iPod itself, you can get it serviced here.
Take care,

I use Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, when clicking a link in Outlook I always get a box stating
General Failure. The URL was "http:// etc etc".The system cannot find the file specified.
Yet it still goes to the specified page. Any ideas on how to resolve thisI am having the exact same problem with Windows 7 Professional. Out of the blue, this issue just started a few months ago when running my monthly Windows Backup where I have used a USB drive for the last 3 years, and never ever had this issue before. Most
of the solutions listed on the Microsoft websites and answers deal with
"Restore" functions, not the
"Backup" itself. I have 3 folders being skipped during the backup.
So I went and changed the Backup from "let Microsoft choose files, directories, etc" to "Let me choose". I included the files and folders that were being skipped, and ran the "Backup" again, and got the same error message,
but the files that were skipped the first time were "Backed up" finally. This issue is somehow related to my "Libraries"?
The 3 backup problems are:
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book Recordings. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book CD Label-Cover Art. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\My Audio Books\Audio Book MP3 Tag Art. Error:(The system cannot find the path specified. (0x80070003))
Did a "checkdisk" - no problems. Ran a program to fix registry - no problems. All updates up to date. I guess I could eliminate these folders from the Backup folders in the
Library, and just choose them under the "Users" locations, and be done with it. But I really want to understand this, and fix it. This is within Windows 7 and may be related to Windows Media Player or
some recent Windows update. Thanks. -
Hi, been unable to use my 2007 imac today due to a kernal panic situation. I hadn't heard of such until today and have no idea how to resolve the problem. Have tried restarting it a few times also with a combination of holding down alt, holding down cmd R, holding down the shift and also managed to track down the original installation disks but not sure how to use them to any effect. I have virtually no technical knowlege (which is why I use macs!) please any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks...disk repair failed
You will need a stronger 3rd party utility to repair. Utilities are best run from the CDs to avoid system interference & false readings/reports. You must use the versions that are compatible w/your OS system & keep the utilities updated to avoid damaging/harming/trashing your system.
You need to make your own decision on which to purchase. Read up on them on their websites because each do something a little different.

I just became a Photoshop CCmember today. I don't know what to do about this error message: 3D features require a minimum of 512MB of vRAM. Photoshop has detected less than that on your system. Updating the driver of your graphics card may resolve the issue.
What are your hardware specs? How much vRAM do you have? (Note: System RAM and Video RAM are two different things)

Hello! Tried unsuccessfully to restore my MBP, running the Mac OSX Lion, to factory settings. I keep getting the "can't download additional components for the Mac OSX Lion" error when reinstalling the OSX Lion. Any tips on how to resolve this problem?
Hi
Given that your answer to 1. is 'pre-installed' and 3. is 'No', I think the only thing to do is to take it to an Apple store (ideally the one you bought it from) and have them reinstall it for you.
The intended solution in cases like yours is that you should be able to reboot and install even a wiped disk by using Apple's servers over the internet (you do this by restarting with 'command-r' and choosing 'reinstall Lion'). However if this isn't working for you then you need to get the store to do it. Don't let them fob you off with 'go home and try again'. Have them do it in the shop (you're still covered by Applecare warranty so it should cost you nothing save the inconvenience of the trip and possibly leaving the machine there while they fix it).
A reinstall should leave all your own personal data and programs in place.
Note for future: when you get it fixed, first thing to do is buy a cheap external drive and start keeping a backup (either Time Machine or clone with Carbon Copy Cloner).

Laptop M500 - ST6422 - Crackling and popping sound. How to resolve it?
Hello
I own a toshiba M500 - ST6422 and from the beginning a had sound issues when i listened to music or watched movies.
I saw that a new bios version (2.50) was released to resolve this issue and I installed it but my problem is still there. I still have crackling and popping sound when i listed to music and watch music. It appears at random. I trie dto catch if the CPU reached 100% but it didn't.
How can this be resolved?
I still have warrancy until december, if i take it to there, can they resolve something?
What is the problem? Driver/ sound card/ other?
I really need ansers on how to resolve this issue, untill my warrancy ends.
Thank you in advanceso, i went with it at a service who handle toshiba warrancies too. They tested the hardware and said everything is ok, must be a software problem.
So i did what you asked, installed it out of the box, and it doesn't give me the same bad problems, but they still occure but seldom than before.
So it must be a software problem indeed, which toshiba didnt resolve with the new bios version 2.50.
Anyway, the problem is another one. I used to install windows in a custom way on 50 GB so I could use the best of the rest of GB for other partitiions. Now, with out of the box installationg, i cannot shrink too much of C partition (the one with windows), it doesn;t let me , so i am stuck with 119GB on C. Isn't there anything to be able to take like 60GB from C to another partition. I tried to defragment with it was 0 result.
Thanks
I am also waititng for other advices to be able to resolve the software problem with audio. -
I bought an I pad 2 from us but I can not activate the Facetime in UAE(Dubai)as I can not see the country in the I pad's drop list, anyone has an idea as to how to resolve this issue
I'm not that familiar with how FaceTime works. I know how to set It up but I don't use it. I just know that you can't activate in the UAE. I believe that you can activate in any country that permits it's use. Whether you will need a new ID or not, I can't confirm.
You can Google this and get all sorts of articles on workarounds. Apparently if you set up a VPN you can use it in the UAE. Here is one article that I found.

How to resolve #Multivalue Error
HI All,
I have a data like below, in this for inpatient data is NULL and as per business requirement if data is null then "0". so i create a variable and drag into inpatient's total column
statement for inpatient is
=If IsNull([total]) Then 0 Else [total] Where ([items]="Inpatient")
items total
Office
4
Utilization
70
Inpatient
it is working and showing as "0"
but when inpatient has value it is showing #multivalue"
Office Visits
4
Non-Emergency ED Utilization
70
Inpatient Stays
40
how to resolve is issue
Please reply i am using SAP BO 3.1 INFOVIEW
Thanks in advance
RanjeetHi Ranjeet,
First thing is you are getting this error because of the where clause used in the variable.
Because in the 2nd case when it has value for Inpatient, it is actually taking the same value for all the 3 cases.
How to remove null value with 0:
1. Remove where clause from the variable and use that variable in place of Total in the table report.
2. Use format number option to place 0 in place of undefined values.
Hope it helps. Please ask if you have any queries.
Regards,
Subrat
