Gnome-themes-extras

After the move to /usr gnome-settings-daemon gets 100% CPU if gnome-themes-extras is installed and i try to change the theme.
Can anyone reproduce this?

Gtk-WARNING **: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.4.0/engines/libsmooth.so: undefined symbol: GTK_IS_COMBO
I noticed, that it only happens when I'm a single user. It doesn't give warning when I'm a root
hope that helps
I've got that one with all gnome apps, root or non-root

  • Can't Find gnome-theme-manager

I just installed Arch on a new machine after using it for about 2 years on my previous computer, and I can't find gnome-theme-manager.
I have installed the following packages:
    gnome
    gnome-extra
    gnome-themes-extras
On my old machine, gnome-theme-manager is present in /usr/bin, but not on the new one. I also checked /opt/gnome/bin which contains only gconftool.
    Am I missing something stupid?
edit: not in /usr/share or /usr/sbin

  • Getting gnome themes/styles to work properly in openbox

Hi first this is my first post here and I'd like to express how awesome Arch is. I've long battled with toing and throwing between various distros and Windows but I think that will stop with Arch. It just 'feels' right for me . Now onto my issue.
I've installed Openbox via the beginners wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … de#Openbox) and am also running thunar. My question is this, how do I get gnome themes to display correctly in my applications including thunar. I've installed the following theme (http://box-look.org/content/show.php/Mu … tent=66198) as I thought this particular setup looked nice http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/8910/screen220323.jpg. But thats all I get after selecting the theme in obconf is nastly looking WIndows 95esqe looking windows and menus with ridgid boring styles. Do I have to install gnome first and then install openbox as I don't want all the crap that a gnome installation would dump onto my system.

You use obconf to change the Openbox theme (just the window borders). To change the GTK theme you can use lxappearance or a few other tools:

  • Gnome-games-extra-data: requires gnome-games

Getting the following error when trying to upgrade:
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: gnome-games-extra-data: requires gnome-games
    I removed gnome-games-extra-data
    sudo pacman -R gnome-games-extra-data
and upgrades seem to be going fine now.  I have never played a single gnome game any way, so even if I broke something, I'll probably never notice.

I figured it was something to do with either gnome or gdm.  I have a couple other machines that I haven't yet upgraded and will have to go through this.  I wonder what the deal is with GDM?
Unfortunately I didn't have time to troubleshoot at work and just booted to an opensuse 12.3 KDE CD I was given to try out.  First time for both opensuse and KDE for me.
If I figure out anything else concerning GDM I'll post back.

    Hey sensorsmile,
I got the same behaviour after updating today. After trying out a couple of things I found out, that my GDM is broken.
Here's what I did to get my machine running again:
    1. when grub screen appears press "e" to edit the additional commands.
    2. after "ro quiet ..." enter "single" to make the kernel boot only into the console and avoid GDM.
    3. boot with F10
    4. login in terminal mode
    5. as root type "systemctl disable gdm"
    6. install slim (read about it in wiki, especially the part with xinitrc)
    8. as root type "systemctl enable slim"
    9. reboot
Well I don't know if you're using gnome, but if so, you can try these steps. good luck

  • Exaile - missing gnome-python-extras problem [SOLVED]

    Hi,
Until last week i was able to fetch lyrics with exaile, but something broke it, and now exaile is complaining about missing gnome-python-extras. I have installed both libgtkhtml and gnome-python-extras:
$ pacman -Qs gnome-python-extras libgtkhtml exaile
    local/gnome-python-extras 2.14.3-1
Gnome Python interfaces for libraries not part of the core platform
    local/libgtkhtml 2.11.1-1
        An HTML library for GTK
    local/exaile 0.2.11-1
Exaile is a media player aiming to be similar to KDE's AmaroK, but for GTK+
    Reinstall didn't help. Any ideas?

    Hi,
thanks for the tip. It kinda solved the problem.
I can see now the lyrics and the other tabs, but there is just a button that says, that 'open browser' and a link next to it. And when I try to open the information tab again exaile dies. I suppose that's another bug.
So now I'm trying to build the whole xulrunner from abs as I'm writing. I'm not really familiar with bug reporting, but if it still isn't working, I will report it.
Anyway, here is the bug report from bug buddy: http://lmanweb.extra.hu/gecko-bugreport.txt
EDIT: After installing xulrunner from abs exaile won't die, but it still don't load the pages within the tabs, and the wiki plugin still doesn't work
EDIT2: OK, i reported it: bug ID 9660

  • Gtk-chtheme overwhelms gnome-theme-manager

I just used gtk-chtheme in icewm and when I returned on gnome, I had the gtk theme instead of the one of gnome. So I tried putting the theme I wanted with gnome-theme-manager : Ocean Dream. But then, just a part of the theme would load, I had to find a theme that fits well with Ocean Dream on gtk-chtheme.
Gtk-chtheme has made some sort of shortcircuit on gnome themes. :S
    Help!

gtk-chtheme writes out ~/.gtkrc-2.0, this is what sets the theme in icewm, and it's also the one setting the theme in gnome.
maybe just use gtk-chtheme in gnome?
or, run gnome-settings-daemon in icewm, and use the gnome-theme-preferences in icewm..

  • Shiki-colors GTK themes look like default gnome theme.

Whenever I attempt to use the latest Shiki-colors GTK theme, setting it with LXappearance, my GTK theme instead reverts to the default gnome theme. Other themes work fine. Does anyone have an idea why this would be happening, or how to fix it?

If I remember correctly, that theme needs the latest development version of the murrine engine from AUR (if it is the murrine version that you are trying to use).

  • Gnome themes not changing titlebar

    Hi, All.
I found my gnome 3.8 a little disturbing these days:
I do not like titlebar(which contains maximize, close, minimize icons) in gnome 3.8 and try to install a new theme. However, any themes I tried didn't change my titlebar. I just extracted all files into ~/.themes and used gnome-tweak-tool to switch to that gtk3 theme, all but titlebar changed to that theme. Did I missed something?

armandopk wrote:Try, downgrade gnome-tweak-tool..of the version 3.8.1-1 to 3.8.0-1..this solve the problem...

    thanks ,I slove the problem with the help of you.but it seems that I can't just only install 3.8.1-1 to 3.8.0-1,something else need to be done;
    First ,remove the /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/metacity-1/
then we can just do like the above method.
    //chinese
    非常感谢楼上的,问题解决了,但在我这里,并不是单单安装 3.8.0-1就可以有效果,我们还需要删除 /usr/share/themes/Adwaita/metacity-1/

  • Ubuntu look-alike gnome theme for arch linux

Is there any theme/gnome package(s) for arch linux that will give me gnome that looks kind of like the gnome package for ubuntu? I'm moving over from ubuntu to arch, and I'm hoping to ease the transition at first while I get used to the rest of the system. Thanks!
EDIT:  Actually, how configurable is xfce? I've used gnome and kde for arch a bit, but they're just so vanilla, and I'm still looking for a relatively nice graphical interface on top of cli. Thanks!
Last edited by pythonscript (2009-07-27 23:29:40)

xfce4 is just about as configurable as GNOME at the level of gconf/ xfconf and way more configurable via the settings GUI.

  • Cannot Change Gnome Theme Anymore

    Hello,
I installed a theme and ran it and it was fine. I tried to return to the default but that did not work. I tried to run another theme and it didn't work either. I am not stuck with this theme and I want to change it. I installed the extension user-theme to use it. What is the problem?
    I have 3.6.2 Gnome
    And help is appreciated.

    HELP!
    Have you done your homework?
Run DU, check/repair HD and permissions.
If that does not work, move following .plists to desktop; let system create new plists
    try this one first:
    com.apple.desktop.plist
reboot and see if this fixes it.
if not then move this one to desktop and repeat
    com.apple.desktopscreensaver.rsspictures.plist
    report back here with results.

  • [Gnome] Theme Problems

With any of the themes I've tried, the controls do not look how they are supposed too. Here is an example:
    Glossy P from http://art.gnome.org
This is how its supposed to look
and this is how it looks on my box
    (click for 1280x1024 png)
none of the widgets seem to change, but I have no problem chaging the window border and the same thing happens to any other theme that I try.
    Any help would be appreciated
    EDIT:
The screenshot I took is from gnome 2.5, I had the exact same problem with gnome 2.4 and I thought the problem might be fixed in 2.5.

    Resolved
it seems that all I needed was the gtk-engines package
a simple pacman -S gtk-engines fixed all my problems

Edited by: SlowToady on Nov 23, 2008 4:37 PM

    Thanks KT.
I did get a phone call after a few days and it did end up as a useful conversation.
I do think though that there should be contact numbers so that developers can actually ring a named individual in the App Review Team. I was really surprised that the Apple switchboard said that they were unable to connect incoming callers to specific teams or members of staff. As a Customer Service experience it seems pretty poor.
Anyway, the member of staff in the Review Team was helpful and we are making some of the suggested changes and resubmitting the App.
In terms of ePub functionality, it actually can't do everything the App can do as there is no way within an ePub of changing navigation based on whether you are using an iPhone or iPad. There are a lot of things you can do (in fact you can build an HTML5 app within an ePub if you want) but whether an ePub format is appropriate for all the things you can do is another matter. That is a discussion for another day ...
