Godane's Archlinux boot from hard disk but it can't login in with slim

I download Godane's archiso-live-2009-09-24.iso , i havent cdrom , so i boot it from hard disk .
I extract iso to drive C: (fat32) ,two folder is "boot" "archiso-live"
my menu.lst  is :
title Boot archiso-live Desktop
root (hd0,0)
find --set-root /boot/initrd.img
kernel /boot/vmlinuz  elevator=deadline ramdisk_size=60% aufs nonfree=no vga=791
initrd /boot/initrd.img
load=overlay.lzm
The iso can be boot from hd ,but there isnt slim . only is console...
what can i do with this problem??

I think your problem is that load=overlay.lzm is in the wrong place.
Here is what i should look like:
title Boot archiso-live Desktop
root (hd0,0)
kernel /archiso-stable/boot/vmlinuz elevator=deadline lang=en_US keyb=us load=overlay,mesa usbdelay=5 nonfree=no xdisplay=old xdriver=no from=/dev/sda3/archiso-stable changes=/dev/sda3/changes session=xfce cdname=archiso-live
initrd /archiso-stable/boot/initrd.img
I use 'from' boot option so i can boot from my hard drive more easier. The way its booted above is for 2009-12-08 version of my archiso-live. Just thought you should know.
I hope this helps. And sorry for it being so late.

  • Can't boot from hard disk or from windows 7 recovery dvd

    I have a 970A-G46 motherboard.
I can't boot from hard disk or from a windows 7 recovery dvd.
If I move the hard drive to another PC, it boots fine.
If I put the DVD in another PC's dvd drive, it can be accessed.
This machine will boot from an Ubuntu dvd and I can then access the HD directories and the recovery dvd.
What do I need to do?
    Help and thanks

"I can't boot from hard disk or from a windows 7 recovery dvd."
What is that DVD from? Is it from a previous computer of some kind? Same question for HDD and the OS on it.

  • [solved] Boot installer from hard disk, but install from external DVD.

    Hi!
I have an old notebook with broken cd-rom and without support to boot from USB disks (only "USB-FDD"). I want to install on this notebook Arch Linux! I bought an external DVD writer and I would like to only boot Arch linux, but install from external drive. How can I do it?

Yes. My laptop does not support booting from usb-cd and usb-hdd
But I installed Arch by grub4dos to boot from iso, connect external dvd and start installation. System successfully detected the dvd drive so I could install a new system!

  • Satellite L10-144 - Can't boot from Hard Disk

    Hello.
Sorry for my english because I'm french. I have a problem with boot on this computer. I have installed windows xp on my hard disk but the computer don't boot on this hard disk. If I want to boot on this hard disk I must push F12 and select hard disk and after windows load.
In the bios the hard disk is in first but this hard disk don't boot automaticly.
    Can you help me please?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Demilego,
Thats really strange... Normally the computer should boot from HDD automatically.
In your case I would check the BIOS and load the default settings.
    Does it work?

  • Macbook Pro doesn't boot from hard disk

I recently applied an open firmware password to our Macbook Pro.
A co-worker tried to boot via the t-funtion which obviously doesn't work when the open firmware password is active. He forget to contact me so he tried to get it to work using some startup shortcuts. The folowing he had done:
    * starting up while holding shift;
    * starting up while holding command + option + P + R;
    * having the accu out for a while
    * starting up while holding shift and let the Mac on for a night
It seems that starting up from the Macintosh HD seems somehow blocked. THe system hangs on the Apple grey splashscreen with the loading icon turning.
    I tried the following:
    * Tried resetting PRAM using Option + Command + P + R (didn't hear any chimes);
    * Trying to reset Open Firmware Password using Option + Command + O + F (nothing happens)
The most promising solution came when holding down the Option key: I got the lock and entered my Open Firmware Password. I was able to boot from the install disc. In the disc utility I verified the hard disk and repaired some permissions. I didn't get error messages. THen I used the startup utility and selected the hard drive as startup disk.
But when I restart the computer, it still hangs on the splash screen. So for now i've run out of ideas.

With intel Mac they changed to EFI firmware so a lot has changed. From reading this I think if you can get to install disk utilities then why not uncheck +Require password to change Open Firmware settings+ on Firmware Password Utility and that should free up the troubleshooting steps you list above that are blocked. Reinstall of OSX seems logical to attempt. Sadly without further testing could be hardware issue too, need to contact apple authorized service provider in this eventuality. One thing to bear in mind was whether your co-worker altered the firmware in any way, this might invalidate Apple One-Year Limited Warranty, AppleCare Protection Plan, or other AppleCare agreement.

  • Intel Xserve will NOT boot from hard disk drive

I have two Intel Xserves 2.0 QC machines
I have tried to re-install version 10.4.11 OS (don't ask) onto a Hard disk drive that is in a Disk drive caddy and inserted in the machine.
When booting from The installation DVD media
The disk is seen by the "Disk Utility" (the disk is partitioned as GUID boot) and the installation proceeds to the disk.
Once the first pass of the installation is complete and the system reboots, the system shows the folder and ? mark.
If I boot and hold "ALT" key to view all avaialble boot options the Hard Disk Drive does NOT appear as valid boot disk.
It does show, the still inserted Installation DVD.
I CAN boot from an external firewire drive and the Hard disk drive is visible to the OS once logged in.
I have tried different caddy postions (left, middle and right)
I have tried bona fide Apple supplied Disk drives
I have tried various different caddies
I have tried installing Operating System 10.5.*  and  10.6.8 server
I have run SMC reset and system reset
But still I cannot boot off from any Hard Disk Drive inserted in a caddy at the front of the system.
    Has anyone seen this behaviour?
    Is it fixable?
Do I have replace something like the Hard Disk Drive back plane circuit board? Or even the main logic board?
I have now run out of ideas and cannot find any help in discussions or just googling.
ANY help would be very appreciated
    Regards
    Tony

    Antonio Hi !
QC = Quad core  or  QX as it is written on the "pull out" serial number tab at rear of system
    I have 3 late 2006 Intel xserves
On my intial posting I declared 2 were 2.0 machines - when I was trying to be concise
2 of the macines are 2.66 systems and 1 is 2.0 system - all are QX machines
the 2.0 and 1 of the 2.66 will NOT boot from the ADM and disk inside the system - whereas the other 2.66 system will.
I have many different Caddies and these have different product/model number labels
    603-9965
    603-9545
    603-9796
    these are marked "intel SATA"
The 80Gb was only one of the drives tested - I have used Seagate 400Gb 750Gb and 1Tb  -  all of which have been used in systems at one time or another
and as I said the drives ARE visible once the operating system (either installation DVD or external firewire are booted from) - they are just NOT visible when the system is searching for boot media.
Thanks for the guide - I will look through that and continue to try and find an answer

  • IBook G3 can't boot from hard disk or cd

    Hello,
Just recently my laptop suddenly just would not start-up anymore. Here are it's symptoms and what I have tried:
-When the computer starts up I get the folder with the flashing "?" mark sign.
-I tried reseting the PMU and the PRAM and NVRAM (via Open Firmware) no luck.
-I tried booting from the Mac OS X installer CD (for Disk Utility) and the DiskWarrior CD by either holding "c" or "option" (i don't think it is a CD problem because the CD appears as an selection (hard drive doesn't) when I hold "option"). Unfortunately, when it goes to the grey apple on white screen with the wheel the apple becomes a no sign after about 30 seconds.
-I have tried to use "fsck" but I can't startup into single-user mode using Command+S
-I cannot start-up in Safe Mode
-I started it up in target mode (holding "T") but my other computer does not mount it on to the desktop and Prosoft Data Rescue X doesn't recognize the volume.
-I tried replacing the RAM (256mb) with the stick that came with the computer (128mb).
These are all the things in my problem-solving knowledge that I have tried and still can't fix it. If anything I just want to get the files off of it if that's possible.
The computer is an iBook G3 Dual USB 800MHz
    Running Mac OSX 10.3.?
    No Airport Card
256 MB Ram (at the moment)
    Thanks for any help...

  • Macbook wnt boot from hard drive but....

about a month ago my macbook stopped booting up. all that came up was a folder with a flashing question mark. i could hear that the hard disk was spinning but i thought that it may be dead so i removed it from the mac. it is a 500 gig drive.
i had an older 60 gig hard drive that i removed from the macbook about six months ago before copying with super duper. this also did not work so i put the 500 gig drive in to a cms enclosure and plugged it in to the macbook with a usb cable externally.
this time the folder with the flashing question mark and the external drive came up so i clicked on the external drive and it booted up ok. has done since but when i put either drive back in to the mac i get the folder with the question mark.
how can i get the mac to boot from the internal hard drive? i am fairly new to macs so would i have to access the bios as i would have with my old vaio windows based system.

Since you were able to read at least some of the files, I'm thinking you may have an issue with the SATA cable, which is fairly common. The easy test is to pull the hard drive and put it in an external enclosure. If it works, the SATA cable is probably the issue.
    Is it a 13 or 15 inch?

  • MacPro won't boot from any disk but the original

We picked up a lightly used MacPro 2 x3.2G Quad Intel Xeon at work. The plan was to remove the internal drive (which is also the boot disk) and replace it with a brand new WD Caviar Black 500G drive with OS 10.5 freshly installed, and then use Migration Assistant to transfer from the old machine.
The problem is that when trying to run the OSX install disc on this new machine, it will restart, but then not boot from the install disc. Rather, the apple logo pops up, it thinks for a bit, then the grey curtain drops and i get the multi-language "you must restart your machine" message.
So, after successfully doing an install of the OS on the fresh drive using a different machine, i put it back into the new one, restarted holding OPT, and selected the fresh OS drive. I get the same multi-language message, and the machine will not boot. I've tried installing the OS on a different HD as well, to the same results.
The new machine will restart using the startup disk (internal HD) that came with it and will run Apps, etc. To confuse things further, i pulled my startup HD out of my personal tower at home (also running OS 10.5, but it's been updated to 10.5.8), stuck it in the new machine, and tried to reboot from that. This DID work (normal time startup, apps work, etc).
I thought this might be a HD problem, but now it seems like a machine problem. Maybe it doesn't like the OS install? I dunno.. Thoughts?
I just had one. I'll try to clone my HD/OS from my personal computer to the new WD 500G drive, and if that works, i'll just go from there...maybe i just had to type this out to think of something different to try, but i'll post it anyways...

So you're saying essentially that this new machine, when it came out of the Apple factory, had OS 10.5.x installed on it, and because that was the original install, it won't recognize something that has OS 10.5.0, even if that install is on a fresh HD? Basically the hardware inside the tower can't/won't recognize any OS prior to the original 10.5.x factory install?
well, if that's the case, then 1)that's ridiculous of Apple to do, and 2)it makes this whole problem make more sense, and it's good future knowledge for me to have.
I cloned my personal OS (but not the users, docs, etc) and stuck that in the new tower, and it works well so far. I'm in the process of copying files to other internal drives, and i'll be using Migration Assistant to transfer users from our old system to the new one, and if all still works fine after that, i think we'll be good to go. So, based on what you've told me about the factory OS install, etc, i think we're on the right track.
Thanks very much for your input!

  • Booting from hard disks 2TB - bootable USB flash drive GRUB (w/o OS)?

    Hi,
I'm thinking about setting up a hardware supported RAID on a Debian-server (Proxmox) with lots of HDD-space. Therefore, my RAID-array will be >2TB, but I've read that the BIOS of the system will not be able to boot from such. Do you have a solution for this?
I was thinking about installing a bootable GRUB on an USB flash drive, which would then chainload the RAID's GRUB for booting. Is this even possible? I couldn't find any tutorial on how to create/boot only a (customizable) GRUB from the flash drive.
Another option would be to create multiple disks by the RAID-controller, but i'm not sure what happens with the chunks, if i would add another disk to the RAID to expand it.
A third solution, that came to my head, is simply installing Proxmox on a separate disk and detach it from the RAID. But in case of a disk failure, it would not be protected and i would rely on snapshot-backups - so i rather would not like to go with that solution.
Let me know what you think!
    VR

I don't know about the answers to your issues, as I have never tried any disks that large.  But it would probably be wise not to mention that you are trying to do this on a non Arch system, as now I am pretty sure you will not recieve the help you desire.
I don't mean to say that I encourage you to try to dupe our community into helping you with your debian system by not mentioning it.  But it seems pretty silly to come to the Arch threads looking for debian support, even if it is a universal (os independent) issue.

  • HT4718 I am trying to re-install OS X Lion 10.7 Trying to boot from the disk, but the disk ejects. Anyway around this?

I am helping a neighbor with a imac or power mac, I am not sure what it is expect that it is big and from 2007.  I have wiped the disk but then I go to reinstall from the recovery disk and the computer starts up and then the o with the \ comes up and the disk pops out. Does anyone have a way around this or know what I am doing wrong?
    Thank you !!

http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact.html?form=account or contact Apple's Express Lane. One of these should get you going for this abysmal delivery system. BTW, do yourself a favor and quit the installer after it DLs. Then, save a copy of that install app to a safe location so you don't have to waste resources (bandwidth, time, and electricity) DLing it again.

  • Podcast files randomly deleted from hard disk but remain on ipod

    Hi,
I'm running the latest iTunes with a 5G (brand new) 80Gb Video Ipod.
I have subscribed to several podcasts via http://www.podiobooks.com
iTunes seems to work okay for a while, but then I files go missing on the PC. The file seems to have been deleted from the iTunes folder, but remains on the ipod.
I don't see this effect with music or video, just podcasts.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I have stripped and reinstalled everything on my ipod and cleared the itunes library three times now trying to resolve this problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hi buddy,
    > But still think bios is corrupted
If you think so, then contact your authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and try to reflash the BIOS. The technicians are really experts and so this shouldnt be a problem for them.
Here you can search for one:
