GPS is completely malfunctioning on Pre Plus

Up til December the GPS was working fairly well, but since the new year it is driving me nuts. It never gets any signal most the time, and when it does, it tells me I'm at the last place it was working. For example, I'll get it to work at the office. It stops working. I get home, and it gets a signal, but it still thinks I'm at work! And Vice versa. I downloaded the GPS fix app to see if it would help, and it does keep the GPS more active but the same problem occurs where it thinks I'm in my previous location and won't refresh at all or loses signal immediately. I'm paying a high fee for this phone plan and half my applications can't even get a reliable GPS signal. WebOS is great but I'm close to my last straw with this phone. Am I covered for repairs or a new unit with the warranty if it has been less than 1 year?

Hello dystopia:
I also have a VZW Pre and was able to resolve my issue by shutting off GPS and doing clean restart, turn on Location Services, Open VZ navigator accepting the locator if it shows but not the "Buy", with no GPS apps open,  Open phone and dial ##477# Wait for fix and open your app. I also leave my VZW navigator minimized in the background. This has been a Verizon AGPS issue for a while and should be addressed in the 2.x webOS OTA release. Please, watch the Feb.. 9th Palm Announcement Event in San Francisco for further details on a possible more specific release date. I am waiting for the fix... Just like you
Hope that helps...

  • Palm! Where can I find a fully-functional Pre Plus????

Yes, I've posted this in a sub-topic and now I'm creating a new thread because I've had enough!  I once considered myself a big time Palm supporter - but I do not know how much more I can keep my head up with this Pre Plus.
I'm spending WAY too much time at the Verizon store and not enough time with my phone at work.  I'm very close to returning everything. I love webos but cannot bear to deal with this palm hardware anymore.  The shady construction and poor build quality on ALL of the phones I've received over the past 3 weeks has left me with no confidence anymore in the hardware.
I have had my first phone returned with network problems - the phone would not receive data and the camera on the back was in the lower right corner of the opening - as if someone dropped it.  I returned this phone, only to get another phone with keyboard problems and sporadic lockups.   Today I just went into the Verizon store to replace the last defective one, only to receive yet another defective one.  The left side of the display was seriously discolored. I showed the technician at Verizon and he agreed there was an obvious problem. He then took my phone back a 3rd time, replaced it with another one and it still has a light bleeding/discoloring problem on the left side. It's not as bright as the first one, but it's definitely there.  I also see some light issues on the bottom of the screen as well (The discoloration is easily seen when going through interactive tests and displaying the "green" color.  The Verizon store was just as frustrated as I was but wouldn't let me get yet another device from their store and told me that this was a feature of the phone.  The gentlemen I worked with apologized severely, knowing it was definitely a build quality, but also admitting that he couldn't do anything because the store manager was done giving me more phones. His reaked of embarrassment!  I was tired of arguing with them, even KNOWING my first two phones did not have this problem and their floor model didn't either.  They even tried to convince me that the floor models are different... whatever!  I took the phone and left and now I am dealing with even more issues. (Been working on this phone today for over 8 hours)  I cannot get it to sync with my google calendar anymore (despite all the forums suggestions), and icons are being thrown all over my launcher (appearing then disappearing, etc)
I'm really upset that now I paid this much for a phone and I can't even get a good quality unit. I've spent well over 30 hours with defective phones, between driving to the stores, waiting in the stores and testing them on the road.  I've fallen WAY behind at work dealing with these issues and having to read all the forums online for fixes to problems for a BRAND NEW PHONE.
Palm - you have a SERIOUS manufacturing problem with your hardware.  I won't even go near the GPS problems.  I've already accepted the fact that GPS doesn't work on any Pre Plus phones (how sad is that?).  I've tested it on all 4 devices I've received, not to mention the 2 additonal floor models in the Verizon stores, and NADA.  It either doesn't work at all or it's about 1/2 to 1 mile off.
I'm beginning to think the PLUS in PRE means MORE PROBLEMS.
I just can't keep going back to the stores, this is frustrating!!!!!  I only have less than a week before 30 days is up.
I'm not one to complain like this, but I've just about had it.
PALM - WHERE CAN I GET A FULLY FUNCTIONAL PRE PLUS?!?!?!

I sure hope you bought to $7.99 protection plan...

  • Pre Plus is Possessed! Operating on it's own! Make it stop!

Has anyone else experienced this? My Pre Plus is making appointments, taking pictures, sending email, dialing, etc., etc. all by itself. Oh, and deleting stuff. And doing it all at lightspeed. I can actually see ripples on the touchscreen, as if it's actually possessed. I may need an exorcist.
This began immediately after connecting to a public wifi at a Hannigan's restaurant. (called "Winternet"?)
There are moments when it behaves... When I went to the local AT&T store for help. Also, when I went online to look at other phones, like an unlocked Pre2. And now, while I'm writing this.
I haven't tried a hard reset yet. I'd prefer not to lose all the customizing I've done. Anyone have any input, or advice? Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I've rebooted at least a dozen times.
At this point I can't do anything with the phone at all. It just does whatever it feels like. (Right now it's scheduling an appointment for tomorrow, and launching the music player.) So the Interactive Tests are out of the question at the moment.
I'm going to look into reactivating my trustworthy Treo. I need something I can rely on, since my house could be floating out to sea in a couple of days. (I live a block from the Jersey shore.)
I was sure you did reboot, but it's always good to check so we can move on to other methods.
Since it appears your phone is fairly useless, we can try a webOS Doctor.  But first, have you pulled the battery for about 30 seconds?
If that doesn't cure it, let's move on to webOS Doctor.  It's a last-ditch option that completely wipes the OS partition on your phone and loads a fresh copy of webOS.  It does *not* wipe your USB partition where you've saved your photos and music and other downloaded files.  Unfortunately, using the webOS Doctor will in all likelyhood wipe out any saved games you have, I think.
Let's try some steps to get your phone into the right mode for a webOS Doctoring.
    1. Charge your phone via the USB wall charger for 1 hour (not by Touchstone or PC USB charging)
    2. Reboot your PC. While it's rebooting complete the next steps.
    3. Disconnect the charging cable from your phone.
    4. Shut down your phone (if you can).
    5. Pull the battery and let it sit for 30 seconds.  Put the battery back in.
    6. Connect the USB cable to the computer (but not Pre Plus yet)
    7. Run webOS Doctor and click next or OK until you can go no further
    8. Power on the phone while also holding the Volume Up button (after a bit you should see the USB symbol)
    9. Connect the USB cable to the Pre Plus
    10. After a but you should be able to click Next on webOS Doctor to reload webOS onto your phone.
And just to make sure, you are running a Palm Pre Plus on the AT&T network correct?  I need to have that confirmation so I can send you the link to the correct webOS Doctor version.

  • Sigh.. returning Pre Plus to Verizon...

So a few weeks ago I got a Pre Plus to try out. I'm getting tired of my Nexus One's foibles and general bugginess.
I got the Pre Plus from Verizon mainly because I *need* at least 16G of storage internally (whether it's built in or done with flash storage). So the Sprint Pre is out.
Over the past two weeks, I grew to *love* the Pre Plus. I was ready to transfer my number to Verizon, and bring my wife's line over with me.
However, due to the fact that Verizon is crippling GPS access, I will not keep this phone:
    http://www.precentral.net/3rd-party-apps-cannot-access-agps-verizon-palm-pre-pixi-plus
It's sad that Verizon is so short-sighted, that they'd lose a customer willing to pay $100/month for cell phone service, over a measly $10/month app.
Maybe if the Pre Plus ever actually comes out on AT&T, I'll check it out again.

I've had my Pre only a few days and saw the threads about the GPS crippling.  But I tried two GPS applications this evening (Weather Channel and Google Maps), went outside, and after about 5 minutes the map showed me located perfectly.  I did have VZ Navigator up (Note: I am NOT a Navigator subscriber--just had it open on the "Accept" or "Decline" opening screen).  I have not taken the time to fully test the results without VZ Nav running.  But you may want to test this possible work-around until Verizon sees the error of its ways.
If I get a chance to test it without VZ Nav open in that manner I will report back.

  • Palm Pre Plus (Verizon) won't connect to Exchange Server

I have been on the phone for 3 days (purchased the Pre from Verizon the day it came out) and have been unable to connect to my companys email server. I have had a Palm Treo 755 for yrs, and have always gotten my email to that. After days of speaking with Palm reps, I am being told that NO Verizon Pre is able to connect to a corp exchange server at this time. I am quite upset by this, since after listening to a Palm Reps advice, I had an IT person make sure our server was up to date, we had the correct certificates, etc. This of course took hours to complete, and the IT person's time is not cheap. So afte spending all that time and money dealing with this, I was told today by a supervisor at Palm that NOBODY on Verizons network is able to connect to their corp email server, and that it was an issue that is being looked into.
I searched the forums, and found lots of issues of this with Sprint service, but didn't find any with Verizon. Anybody else out there on Verizon and unable to connect? Or maybe the better question is, Does anybody out there have a Pre Plus with Verizon and IS able to connect to their Exchange (EAS) server?

    View Solution.

Correction to my last message. After doing a reset on my phone, and updating our server, I was able to connect to my email. Thank you for your comments to update to SP2. Overall, I am still very upset about the over the phone support Palm provided. Like I mentioned before, I brought up the SP1 vs SP2 option multiple times over the phone, and I was told each time that was not the issue. Even my IT guy fought me, a little, on doing that update since he had heard the same information as I did from the Palm reps on the phone. After creating an account on here, and PDAguy pointing me to the long thread about people with a similar problem, I showed this to our IT guy and he happily updated our server to SP2.
I am happy to get this issue resolved, but still feel Palm mislead me along the way, probably costing me over $400 in IT support,  my wasted time, and traveling to a Verizon store to exchange a perfectly good phone and having me trying different options that did not need to be done. I made 3 different calls to Palm (along with my IT guy who was paid by the hour) and each call lasted about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs. Most of the time being on hold while the rep "research" my question.  Even had a rep over the phone lie to me, and tell me he was able to connect to our server (using my info) with a Pre that he had with him. He then told me I had a faulty phone, and I was directed to go back to Verizon to switch the phone out. After I had switched the phone out, and it of course still did not work, I was then told by another Palm rep, and his supervisor that this was a know issue and that NOBODY with Verizon was able to connect to an Exchange server (with a Pre) due to a software issue on the phone. I had a rebate from Verizon to get this phone for $149, but with all my wasted time, the cost of my IT guy, and the lack of knowledge by the Palm reps, I think I probably own the most expensive Palm Pre Plus out there.

  • 2 wk old Palm Pre Plus... When slide closes, shuts off.. Daily.. Repair options..

Having worked for Blackberry/RIM in the early days I'm well versed in smart devices. I even worked for a company and did support for Palm Pilot's.
Here's the deal. 2 or 3 years ago when Palm Treo 750 came out my friend needed a new phone with a plethera of options so I purchased her one as a gift. Wonderful phone. That phone had run it's course and do to a sticking qwerty keyboard needed a replacement.
So I think "Palm Pre Plus.. Wonderful options, great phone design.. and Palm quality like we had with the Treo."
I bought her a Palm Pre Plus again as a gift, not through a carrier. Her carrier is AT&T by the way. It was brand new. I know this because I got the phone before I gave it to her.
She's had it two weeks so far. And it's having the what I've found through research to be the notorious "shutting off" problem. Whenever she closes the slide, and apparently now even when it's just sitting and gets moved, it shuts off and needs to manually be turned on again. No it's not the screen's sleep feature. It does this daily at the very least, if not multiple times a day.
Having researched this problem on this forum looking for a fix using threads with the same problem I had her try running OS doctor not thinking it would fix as I read another thread on this site saying it wouldn't. But it was worth a try at least. And it didn't help at all.
I told her then to contact palm hoping for some support. Due to Palm's North American Tech Support closing at 8pm, her long work hours and potentially costing money for support. I had her use Palm's 24/7 Online Chat Tech Support.
They told her today to contact her carrier. I don't believe AT&T will cover it with a replacement because the phone wasn't purchased on her AT&T account.
At this point I'm really unpleased with palm, and spending my hard earned money on a product that has apparently(from the threads I've read on this forum) a known defect.
She is going to try phone support tommorrow to see if they can be of more help. I'm upset at palm enough that if phone support is of no help tommorrow with supporting a 2 wk old phone that is clearly defective... To say I will be upset with Palm will be putting it mildly. This is obviously a device malfunction that palm support should know about and has happened in other cases.
Are there any other options through Palm for getting it repaired or even sent back for a replacement?
Post relates to: Pre Plus p100una (AT&T)

The first shutting down issue was related to a bad batch of batteries in some of the original Pre's that were a tiny bit too short.  These were changed out by Sprint, and I wasn't aware of any AT&T branded phones that had this issue!  Mine has never exhibited this behavior.
A simple home-made fix suggested on other webOS related forums was to use a piece of folded paper inside the device to hold it tighter against the gold contacts.
The problem-causing batteries had hollow "legs" at the end - the newer corrected ones had solid "filled-in" legs that fit tighter.

  • Palm Pre Plus Battery WILL NOT HOLD A CHARGE throughout the day!!!!!!

I have been a Palm user for many years and just traded in my Treo for the Pre Plus, what a dissapointment. I am continually looking for a place to charge the phone so I can use it when needed.  This is very frustrating.  Took it back to Verizon but they were not helpful, they just offered to sell me a car charger at 50% off and let me know that this has been on ongoing porblem with the PRE. I have dimmed the backlight and turned off automatic updates for most applications. Any other suggestions before I trade it in for the DROID.

Battery life on any of the current crop of smartphones will be pretty disappointing especially if you really use the heck out of them.  There are some things I can tell you about the Pre, though:
When you first start using it, especially if you add a good number of email, calendar, facebook, etc accounts, it chews through the battery really quickly as its constantly pulling data to populate those accounts on the phone.
Add to this that the radio requires more power the lower the signal wherever you are.  You can thank CDMA for that, and the best you can do is try to stay in a strong signal area the first day or two, especially if you're seeing a lot of data use.
The GPS is on by default (or at least it was initially, not sure on the VZ plus devices).  TURN THIS OFF (GO to location services app and from the menu make sure its checked off) if you don't use it.
Finally, I don't know the chemistry here, but the first few charges on the battery seem to "condition" it, and you'll see life improve as the first few days and charge cycles are behind you.
Palm has some general tips for maximizing your battery use, too.  Find them here:

  • I have a new Palm Pre Plus - can I have more than one Google G-Mail Account on the phone?

I have a general G-Mail account and it has started getting too busy with advertisements etc.  I'm thinking about changing to a different e-mail address but don't know what yet.
I have an old Palm Centro I used to Synch with my laptop.  Now I need to do this with G-Mail.  So I created a unique g-mail account that would only contain my calendar and contact information - i called it "palm.last name" - made sense to me.
When I try to add it to my Palm Pre Plus I am unable to sign in.  I'm wondering if you are limited to the number of Gmail e-mail accounts you can have on the phone.  If i can only have 1 then I don't want my e-mail to be "palm.last name" and give that out to people - that would not make sense to them.
I already have a Yahoo Account and I'm thinking about another Yahoo Account to keep some e-mails and instant messages separate from my personal Yahoo.  If I cannot add more than 1 account, this is going to be a problem.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
You should be able to add your second Gmail account without any problem...I have two Gmail accounts on my Pre and have no difficulties.
When you say you are unable to "sign in", I assume you mean you are unable to sync the email and calendar on your new account?  Double-checking your user name and password are the only things that come to mind.

  • Now Palm Pre Plus, can I remove Palm desktop?

OK, newbie here.  I just switched (successfully) to Pre Plus on Verizon (from Treo).  All my data (contacts, calendar etc) is in Outlook.  I use Companionlink to sync Outlook-to-Google-to-PalmPre.  Works beautifully, all my data is in both Outlook & on my Pre & syncing back/forth.
My question is: I have never used Palm Desktop.  I used to Hotsync my Treo to Outlook.  Can I now remove Palm Desktop altogether? and remove Hotsync Manager?  any reason not to?  One of the reasons I want to get rid of old Palm stuff is that every time I have to restart my computer I get this irritating notice to register my old palm device.  I've always gotten it & want it to stop!  Assume by removing Palm Desktop & Hotsync it will finally go away.  Plus I just like the idea of cleaning house.
P.S. love this Pal Pre Plus.

sonnytris1, are you using Companionlink software?
If not, your question is OFF TOPIC, and has no place being in this thread.   Ask it in a new thread, or one that concerns your issue!

  • Pre Plus won't sync more than latest 3 months from Google Calendar. Need help.

[previously posted in WebOS Software section, but I now think that might have been the wrong place; only one reply; no answers]
I was a very happy owner of my new Pre Plus until I tried to sync my multi-year Google Calendar to my PP, when only the last three months of my GC data would sync to my PP.
Some higher level Palm techs and I spent quite a lot of time on the phone, trouble shooting and testing. Ulltimately, we were unable to solve the problem. The last tech I spoke with acknowledged that currently there are performance problems with the PP if a lot of GC data is downloaded.  Apparently Palm has decided (for now) to prevent us new PP owners from choking our PP's performance by limiting our initial downloads to only the most recent three months of GC data. I was told that Palm is working on this problem and it probably would be fixed with the next update.
I've searched the forum and didn't see any other mention of this problem.  Any one else experiencing this problem?
*** My questions:  Can someone at Palm tell me (1) Is this is a problem that is being worked on by Palm/Verizon?  (2) If so, should be fixed soon? (I only have about 10 days left in my 30 day trial of the PP at Verizon. If I can't have all of my GC data on my phone I will have to turn it back in before the trial period ends.)  (3) Can you suggest some other trouble shooting I could try? (4) Can you suggest a workaround?
(I can provide a somewhat comprehensive list of the trouble shooting already tried and my Service Request Number, if needed.)

The time period for syncing calendar events is a setting.
Go into Settings; Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Scroll down to you get to Calendars.  Where it says Sync, you have an option to change how long you want to sync.
The Default is Events 1 Month Back, but you can choose All Events.

  • Is Palm Zire 21 Software compatible with Palm Pre Plus Cell Phone?

I have an older Palm Zire 21. I love all the features. However, now I am trying to consolidate my Windows (vista) Calendar with my Palm and it is not compatible. I thought I would purchase the newer Palm Pre plus Cell Phone in order to have all of my contacts and calendars on my phone as well as my laptop. Though no one can seem to answer my question: Can I import my contact and calendar from my Zire 21 to the Palm Pre Plus?
Many thanks to who can answer this for me. I greatly appreciate your time and assistant.

webOS (the new Operating System) from Palm does not natively sync to your computer, but to the "cloud" (online servers).
Palm offers a program that will read your Palm Desktop information, and transfer it to Google.  This is only a one-time transfer, and not a sync solution.  See this thread.

  • Pre Plus was all and more...

I have wanted a Pre since I saw it from Sprint. I even considered canceling one of our lines, letting another family member have mine so that I could go to Sprint.
So, when I heard that Verizon was going to be getting it, I was thrilled. I always look into customer product reviews before I get anything. And, I was really surprised to see all the negative ones. It made me a little apprehensive.
When our account was still Alltel, I had bought my very first smartphone, a Motorola Q10. I loved it. But, when the official change to Verizon happened...it didn't work properly anymore. Verizon replaced it, but as we all know-you get the phone one step below. I ended up with an HTC Ozone. Hated every minute of it. I would lose text messages that were saved if the phone got "confused", pictures would go **bleep**...there was even one night I was talking to a friend through text....everyone in my contacts that had a smartphone got all the messages! The other day, I had it plugged in for charging...it caught on fire! I had always heard that cell phones could do. But, I have never seen it, or had met anyone that it happened to.
I got online, and got myself a Palm Pre Plus. Hoping against hope that all the negative reviews were just from Verizon haters who would let it be known to all who asked, and didn't, that the phone sucked. (Not being a big Verizon fan because of all the crap that happened with the Alltel buy-out...I normally made my presence known at the store!)
I knew the battery wouldn't last long...it doesn't. LoL! But, other than that....I am so in love with this phone. I think it's a phone that comes from a company that takes pride in giving consumers the best they have to offer. And they make them to stand the time. I have several chronic medical conditions. Epilepsy, fibro, and Celiac. One thing that I love about Palm is that they joined up with Celiac.com to have an app that translates what Celiac is, and what kinds of food I HAVE to avoid to keep my body from attacking itself. Considering most people don't know what Celiac is, I was EXTREMELY surprised and happy to see that.
I was a little worried with the touch screen, because I have heard that a lot of touch screens can get cracked or messed up easy...and leaves you with a phone that won't work properly.  But, after getting the phone, it took me all of 20 minutes to realize that a touch screen was just what I needed. Because of my medical conditions, I have slight tremors-some from meds, others because of the actual condition itself. Since me hands don't always stay steady enough to work a keyboard for every action that I do, I was limited in my use of previous phones. Having the majority of the uses on this phone controlled by touch screen has made all the difference in the world!
I am so thankful that I didn't let the negative reviews keep me from getting the Pre Plus. I would highly recommend it to anyone who asks. I would also recommend that they get a second battery. LoL!

I called Verizon and they diagnosed the problem. The free wifi hotspot promotion was only for the Pre plus not the Pre 2. The Verizon tech agreed that this was not fair to drop the service. He noted that the fix would require some administrative procedure that might take some days. It's been some weeks and the wifihptspot still doesn't work. How should I proceed.

  • Using Pre Plus as a modem with laptop

Can I use the Palm Pre Plus as a modem tethered to my laptop with VZ Access Manager software from Verizon.  I used this method before with my Blackberry Pearl ($15/mo).  I don't want to pay $40/mo to Verizon to use WiFi (Mobile hotspot) feature on Palm Pre Plus.
    Thanks

    Hi
Can someone help me understand this product please? I've been a BB user till now but want to switch over to the PPP:
    1. Can it be tethered to the laptop as a modem AND work as a phone at the SAME time?
    2. What are the high speed connectivity - do they compare with a broadband at home or the 3G USB modems/sticks one uses on the laptop? If so, are there any limits to the data usage?
    3. I am paying 60 dollars a month for the USB modem AND 70 dollars a month for the unlimited WW data capability on my BB. It appears with the PPP I can get both the things done in the 29 dollar plan for US? Or maybe the 70 dollar plan for unlimited WW usage that can be used on my laptop too with high speeds? AM I correct or reading too much into it here? I am with Verizon currently. Does anyone else offer anything better that takes care of both the things - high speed internet access on my laptop AND a US/Canadian voice plan (I have it currently for USD 99.95/Mo - 1350 minutes)
    4. Is the PPP constantly connected to the internet like the BB is for instantaneous emails? And are there any limits to the enterprise activation as they are on the BB of one only?
    5. Any better alternatives here from Palm?
    Many thanks folks!
