Grouping of Char Restrictions in Query Designer

Hi
Can you please update me on how can i achieve this at report level (Quesry Designer)
Lets assume i had a Char Product which had 26 different values as Master data.
Key: A,B,C.....Z
In the report i need to group those values,Line
North should display A,B,C,D
South should display EFGH
WEST Should display IJKL
other should display the remaining all other  products
Can i achieve this in Query Designer
Thanks

Hi,
As per your requirement i can suggest you a way:
1. Create as the structure as per your requirement: NORTH, SOUTH, EAST, WEST, OTHERS
2. Then select the key figures and in the display properties; select the "hide (can be shown)"
3, there you won't get the column heading. then you can describe your own column heading.
PS: But you can do this only in BEx analyzer (in the workbooks). You cannot do this in the Web reports.

  • 0FISCPER Restriction in Query Designer

    Hi All,
    We are on BI 7.0 -- SP 17 .
Issue: When 0FISCPER is restricted in Query Designer it shows only one value (Period 00 0000 ) as opposed to values in Master data values. We went to SP 10 to 17 recently and since then this issue croped up.  Any thoughts will be appreciated.
    Tasks taken care:
1.Transfered global settings from Source system T009 table is consistent.
    thanks
    Mr.BI

    Mr. BI,
       Did you resolve the issue?
The problem exists with filter value selection based on  " Values in Master data table" .
When the setting is changd in Info object mantenance to "Only values in Info provider"  you can see values for Fiscal year/peiod.

  • Restricting the Query Design Mode Toolbar in BEx

    Hello,
Query Design Mode toolbar is available to Citrix users when using the BEx Analyser. THe client would like this switched off in the workbooks so users cannot see the make-up of the query.  Does anyone one know who to carry this out?
    Thanks,
    Hema
Edited by: Hema Bharti on Jul 30, 2008 2:36 PM

    Hi Hema,
    To answer your question:
From query design toolbar, I do not see how you can see the make up of a query.
The design toolbar has been introduced to be able to make changes to the query as users need and save them for personal in Favorites or if they have authorization into roles.
As lomg as they do not have access to query designer, they cannot see make up of query.
There is no authorization to disable design toolbar.

  • OR between groups in Row-Restrictions, priority - Universe Design

Old School Univers Design, no SAP source, but plain Oracle
    Two Questions here
    1 - Priority in rowrestrictions
    from documentation:
u201CYou can specify which restriction to apply to a user that belongs to multiple groups using a universe. For example a user belongs to two groups, Sales with a restriction to view 5000 rows of data, and Marketing to view 10000 rows. When the user refreshes a report, the restriction associated with the lowest level group is applied. In the example above, if the Sales group had order 1 and Marketing had order 2, the restriction from marketing (10000) would be used.u201D
I read in the documentation for Rowrestrictions, that the restriction on top of the order list will be the one kicking in, in case of a huser having two conflicting restrictions.
Does anyone have experience with this ?
    Does it work ?
My experience is that its not working.  Both rowrestrictions gets into the SQL with AND between as shown
      AND  ( FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (030,033,090,805,041,062,048)
      AND  FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (041,048,062)
the first line is my new restriction with priority 1,
the second line is the other restriction with priority 6
    2 - OR between groups
there is a Restriction option in Manage Rowrestrictions , where you can spesify Rowrestriction Combinations using AND or OR.
I have not been able to have this working.
Anyone having a positive experience here ? Or have I misunderstood what this actually means.
    I would expect
      WHERE  ( FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (030,033,090,805,041,062,048)
      OR FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (041,048,062)
    What I get is
    ( FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (030,033,090,805,041,062,048)
      AND  FLEX_SEGMENT5.FLEX_VALUE IN (041,048,062)
Is this a known bug ?
I have tried this in WEBI 3.1 and R2

    Hello,
In fact, Priority is used for universe overload where only one overload among several might apply. This is the case for connection overloads, table mappings..., but not for row restrictions.
For row restrictions, you have AND/OR aggregation operators. In Universe design tool, you have the option to choose how Row restriction will aggregate (click the "cog" icon):
+ Combine row restrictions using AND
+ Combine row restrictions using AND within group hierarchies and OR between groups
In the first case, all row restrictions that might apply to a user will be aggregated with AND operators.
In the second case, row restrictions that are inherited are aggregated with AND operators and the ones coming the user groups a user belongs to are aggregated with OR operators.
Ex with the following user groups organisation:
    G1
      G11 (G11 belongs to G1 group)
    G2
      G21 (G21 belongs to G2 group)
and user U belongs to G11 and G21 user groups.
Final row restriction that applies to the user U is:
    (G1 AND G11) OR (G2 AND G21)
    Hope it helps.
    Cheers

  • Grouping Free Characteristics in Query Designer?

    Hello,
I have a couple reports that per busniess have many free characteristics. So many that that they do not fit on one page and you must continue scrolling the page down to view all. This makes the report look sloppy but the business owner wants all of these free characteristics. I'm looking for a way to clean up the list of free characteristics without removing any selections. Can they be grouped up or consolidated through Query Designer or WAD?
    Thank You,
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
Actually use of free characteristic will not slow down the report performance rather free characteristics are used to enable the user for dynamic drilldown and to improve the query performance for initial output display.
What you can suggest your users is to keep only required free characteristics and then remove the rest of the characteristics and from grouping perspective all the free characteristics in query designer output are shown alphabetically so you can not manipulate the group in designer.

  • Text value is not getting displayed in Query designer !!

    Dear experts..,
i have created a new query in query designer using my info provider and then selected one field in default value and then trying to restrict that particular field while selecting the restriction in query designer am getting the exact text value but after generating the report instead of text value , key value is getting displayed....so how can i get text instead of key value??
    please help me friends....
i have posted in OSS mesage also...i got a reply like...even i didnt understand his reply too...what he is trying to say?
whether can i get text display or not???
can any one help me in this regard???
    SAP Reply----
    Hello kumar,
After another analysis I have to inform you about general concept of
    "compounded characteristics".
A compounded characteristic bounds two characteristics. The technical
name is generated by both technical names of the two characteristics
    combined by two underlines "__".
An individual text is only available for one single combination of both
    characteristics.
    Example:
    =======
Compounded characteristic "Famous family name" is a combination of
characteristic "COUNTRY" & "ETHNIC". Technical name: COUNTRY__ETHNIC
    Values for Country: USA, Australia
    Values for Ethnic: Asian, Latino
Possible value combinations with individual text:
    USA & Asian; text: "Ling"
    USA & Latino; text: "Sanchez"
    Australia & Asian; text: "Chu"
    Australia & Latino; text: "Garcia"
(Keep in mind the individual text only valid for the specific
    combination.)
In analogy to the issue that you reported, you want to restrict this
compounded characteristic. In the window where you select the restrictedvalue (called Selector) you'll see on the left hand side all available
combinations of the characters with an individual text.
You select family name "Chu" and drag'n'drop it to the right side.
Actually you can only restrict the right compounded characteristic. In
our example you would restrict on characteristic "ETHNIC" with value
"Asian". (When you switch on technical names this comes more clear). Thetext "Chu" is displayed in the context of Selector because you selected
value combination Australia & Asian. But in the end it's just a
placeholder(!) for any combination of characteristic "ETHNIC" and value
#Asian#; in our example it could be USA & Asian "Ling" or Australia &
    Asian "Chu").
By leaving the Selector the individual text is gone because now the
context is lost between the two characteristics. You have just a
restriction on characteristic "ETHNIC" with value "Asian". An individualtext can't be displayed because the compounded characteristic is not
    specified for this restriction.
You're right, it is confusing when "loosing" the text of a restriction.
But accoring to the concepts of the compounded characteristics it
    is a correct behavior.

    Hi anandkumar,
I belive this issue can be resolved by changing the  Query proprties for the perticular field.
Kindly check the Field proerties in query designer and ensure that Text is enabled ather than Key.
__Field property check up:__Go to query designer->click onn the field-> Right hand side in properties click on display tab-> select Text in drop down menu of Display as tab.
FURTHER CHECK UP: check the master data avaiulability for the perticular info object, if masterdata is not available, do the text data for txt data availability in report level.
    Hope this helps you!!

  • Formula Evaluation in Query Designer

    Hi
In query designer I have Complex formula which is having lot of variables.
My users are saying some values are incorrect in report output
Can any one help how can we find the value is calculated in report output for this formula.
    Thanks
    Sudhakar.

    Hi Sudhakar,
One more way which you can try to find out how the particular Key Figure is been calculated in query designer is as given below:
    1) Go to RSRT
    2) execute your query with option for Query Display As "List"
    3) You will get the query output
    4) In this screen, you will get the button "Key Figure Definition" on the top
    5) Click on this button and there will be a pop up screen to select "Structure Element 1" and "Structure Element 2"
    6) Here for "Structure Element 1" please select the KeyFigure name for which you want to see the calcuation
    7) and click on the "Continue" (Here its blue colored icon)
    8) After this you will get a screen showing KF value that is calculated by query
    9) Drill down the key figure to see "Fixed Fliter" which will show the data selection used to calculate this value. These are nothing but the global filters defined in query
    10) Drill down the KF to see the dynamic filter values i.e. selections with which this KF is restricted in query designer
With above analysis you can easily trace out how the particular KF is calculated in query designer.

  • Char restriction in Bex Query Designer

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone explain what is the use of the Characteristic Restriction Area in in the BEx Query designer
If i set 0CALYEAR =2008 in the Char Restriction and in the column definition i set the one of the column to display data from year 2009. Will it work ?
    Please advice
    Thank you
    BR

There are two type of characterstic restrcitions in the query. Global and local.
If you are createing a restrcited key figure or selection and restricting calday then it will be restricted to that particular key figure (and show 2008 data) and in the columns it will show you other years data (i.e. 2009 data).
But if you are using a global fiter in the filter tab of query designer, then it will be applicable to the whole query.

  • How to restrict for same char in Query designer

    Hi Experts,
We have a requirement where we have to display the TRansfer amount
Where transfer from contract and transfer to contract
    Sould not be equal.
Is there any way by which in query designer we can put condition on Chars.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks
    Mayank

    Hi,
As much I understood, you may create a replacement path variable on CHAR and convert the same in number/Key Figure.
You may put condition on this.
    I hope it will help.
    Thanks,
    S

  • Restricting Query in Query Designer

    Hi All,
I have to create new report on top of multiprovider which already as other reports on it.
The report should contain Plant, Billing Document number, Customer Group, customer group1, Ship to, Sold to, Invoice Amount.
All fileds are available in the multiprovider, all the Ship to numbers are different to Sold to numbers but texts are same for few records. So I need to excule those records where as Ship to texts are equal to Sold to texts.
Anyone know how to acheive this in Query designer level, where as I can't change anything in multiprovider because we have other queries on that.
    Thanks.

    HI,
You will have to write a customer exit for this. And logic for this would be : you will have to compare both Ship to texts and Sold to texts and you will have to pull only those records for which Ship to texts are equal to Sold to texts.
Once you got all the values of Ship to and Sold to for which they are equal (through Customer exit), you can create a variable and put it as a restriction for Sold to or Ship to.

    RJ

  • Exception in BEX Query Designer 7.10 when restricting dataprovider in filte

    Hello,
when I build a query in the Query Designer 7.10 and try to restrict the infoprovider in the filter
to access a mulitprovider I get the exception:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application.....
    Index was out of range........"
    Our System:
    Windows XP Servicepack 2
    .Net 2.0 Serivcepack 1
    Office 2003
    SAP GUI 7.10 Patchlevel 9
    BI Addon + Serivcepack 7
    BW 3.5 Addon + Servicepack 4
    Netweaver 7.00 packagelevel 11
Has anybody seen the same erro or a oss note which fixes this problem?
    Thanks.
    Regards, Lars.

    Hi,
I have not encountered this problem in the last days. We have made an upgrade
in the support package level from 11 to 16 for Netweaver Basis and 12 to 18 for
Netweaver BI. Sometimes there can arise problems when the support package level
of the Application Server is to low in comparision to the SAP GUI.
Maybe this was the problem. I am not sure.
I would advise you to install the latest upgrades of your SAP GUI and keep the application
server on a high support package level.
Sorry, I can't give any other hint.
    Regards, Lars.

  • Creating Restrictions in BEx query designer for (1-a), where a is variable.

    Dear All,
    >>  Suppose for the variable in the BEx query designer, I've created restriction for 0FISCPER to the variable 0P_PER (as 0P_PER-1) by right clicking 0P_PER3, from that a dialog box appears.  In that I've selected 0P_PER3 and then clicked on offset variable and when I set the offset variable, it works for (0P_PER-1.etc, 0P_PER+1,etc..)
But if I want to have (1-0P_PER), then plz tell me how to define this restriction?
Plz explain me the steps to perform (1-0P_PER) restriction in BEx query designer in BW1.
I'm using SAP BI 7.2 gui.
    Expecting your reply soon,
    with Regards,
    Jerald

My requirement is that I want to have " 1-fiscal year"., But this I could not define using offset variables, since using offset we can define "fiscal year +1" or "fiscal year -1".
So there would be some other way to define "1-fiscalyear".  So Please help me to define "1-fiscalyear"  by giving me the steps.
    Thank you,

  • Group by in BEx query designer

    Hello experts,
I'm new in BEx query designer and I'm currently working on displaying the maximum of a list of values and group them by calendar day like the exemple below:
    CalendarDay
    Client
    Amount
    02.09.2014
    A
    3000
    02.09.2014
    B
    2000
    03.09.2014
    A
    1500
    03.09.2014
    B
    1600
The result I need to display is as below:
    CalendarDay
    Amount
    02.09.2014
    3000
    02.09.2014
    2000
    OverAll result
    3000
    03.09.2014
    1500
    03.09.2014
    1600
    OverAll result
    1600
What's the best solution for this ?! is it to work with calculated Key Figure or Exceptions ?! Would any one help me to get such result.
    Thanks a lot

If you need to show the data as you mentioned then i think you are suppose to keep client in rows and also you have to switch on the result row display for that characteristic.
Because if you remove it then data will get aggregated based on calday and it will become 2 records only.
To get the maximum value you have to use Exception aggregation.Create a new formula and put the amount kf inside it.Hit the aggregation tab--Exception aggregation as maximum--Reference characteristic as client.
If this does not work then we can also apply nested aggregation based on calday.

  • Query Designer restricted key figures using a prompt value

    Hallo Experts,
I would like to restrict key figures after user has beeen prompted to enter a date. I have 2 key figures:
    a) KF1, Date1
    b) KF2, Date2
User should be prompted to select a specific date: e.g. 01/2011. After selecting/entering the prompted date value, it should be given to date objects for intance Date1=01/2011 and Date2=01/2011.
How could I achieve it in Query Designer without using customer_exit function? Reason is that non-experienced users will use this report and they should not be confronted with complex query. Do you have any idea?
    Many thanks
    Mamadu

    Hi,
I assume that you need to restrict the value of keyfigures by date based on user input data on variable selection screen.
First create one user input variable on your date field say for eg calday.
Now restrict your KF1 with calday and choose that vairable which you created.
For second KF2 which seems to me need to be restricted with offset of +1 based on the date entered by the user.
So restrict this KF2 with calday and use the same variable with offset of +1
I just misunderstood you ned calmonth or day because in requirement you have given month but you are calling it as date.
If its month then replace calday with calmonth..
    Hope it helps.

  • How to restrict the attribute values for the user in query designer

    Hi All,
I have a requirment where certain user would see certain vailes in the query desiner of the attribute.
The requirment is we have planing material which is attribute of material
When X user want to restrict the  values for planning material ,where he is able to see all the planning material. But who is not authorized for all the value.
Ex: X user has authorization for see planning material 100,101,102. of material But when he try to restrict the planning material in query designer where is getting all values of planing material.
    Or
is there way to blank the restriction help.so that he can't able to see values while restricting
Please some one can advise me on it..

    Hi,
    Let me sum up:
you have an object ZPLNMAT for the planning material
you have the object 0MATERIAL for material and this object has ZPLNMAT as attribute.
If you can restrict in the query designer, I suppose this attribute is then as navigationnal and also added in the multi-provider.
The object ZPLNMAT is checked as relevant for authorization, and you set up a role with the attached values of ZPLNMAT this user should have access to.
Are you sure the users are restricting on the ZPLNMAT object and not 0MATERIAL, because you should have everything now
