GroupLayout Platform Differences

Working on a project and started on a PC but moved it over to my Mac while traveling. When I opened the project, my main form had a bunch of errors.
I created the project using NetBeans 6.5 and I have a couple of jInternalFrames on the form. Looking at the generated code from the PC, it starts with:
javax.swing.GroupLayout fra_HandicapLayout = new javax.swing.GroupLayout(fra_Handicap.getContentPane());When I opened in on my Mac, again in NetBeans 6.5, that shows as an error saying it can't find GroupLayout in the javax.swing.
Just for grins, I created a new form on the Mac and then copy/pasted the frame from the "bad" form onto the new form. Looking at the code on the Mac, it now starts with:
org.jdesktop.layout.GroupLayout fra_HandicapLayout = new org.jdesktop.layout.GroupLayout(fra_Handicap.getContentPane());So the question is, why? I'm still a bit new to Java and was under the impression that it should be platform independent. My guess is that I have some additional (or missing) library between the two platforms but I wouldn't know where to go to start looking.
Can anyone shed any light on this? Does anyone know if the org.jdesktop.layout.GroupLayout would work on the PC?
Thanks!!!!

I didn't even think to look at the JDK. Thanks!!! That was it. I'm using 5.x (or so) on the Mac. Opened the .java file in Xcode and changed all of the javax.swing to org.jdesktop.layout and then opened it back up and changed it as you suggested from Standard Java 6 to Swing and looks like it's all working fine.
You don't need to manually change that code. It should be done automatically when you change that property.
Guess I need to either roll-back the JDK on the PC or upgrade the Mac to keep compatible? What is the more common looking ahead to a distribution package, 5 or 6?If you can use v6, use v6, it's newer and more feature rich. :-)

  • Platform differences

Hi. My office has 4 computers which the SQL Developer is installed. We save our SQL's in our share network drive. On 2 of our computers we are able to export our results in .xsl format. On the other 2 computers we are not able to export. On all 4 computers we are able to run the sql, and it generates the same results. The error the 2 computers receive when trying to export is: ERROR 936 Missing Expression. However it cannot be a missing expression since the sql completes successfully. The 2 computers that are able to export the results have Platform ASE (15) and the 2 that have problems have Platform Microsoft SQL Server (7). With this difference I'm assuming that is where the problem is; however, how can we change the Platform? The 2 with the Microsoft Platform don't have the ASE option. Perhaps we downloaded different versions. I know the 2 with the Microsoft Platform downloaded the Oracle SQL Developer for Windows. (This zip file includes the JDK 1.5.0_06). The users with the ASE aren't sure which version they downloaded. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
    THANK YOU

The Computers with the ASE were using an older version 1.5.1 (found by going to 'HELP' and 'About'). The Version with Microsoft was 1.5.3 which has a known problem. They claim they have fixed the problem in version 1.5.4, but that hasn’t been released it yet. We found it easier to UNINSTALL the 1.5.3 Version and Install the 1.5.1 in order to use our previous sqls. Version 1.5.1 is found at http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/sql/index_archive151.html ... go with the first option that INCLUDES the JDK file.

  • Platform differences 2.6 patched vs. 2.7

How much does Solaris version 2.6 patched and 2.7 affect Oracle Financials 11.0.3? Is a migration from 2.6 to 2.7 difficult? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  • [?] Platform to choose

    Hi,
sorry for a stupid question. I'm a novice in Oracle, and as I see the db server exists for several OS. I'm interesting in Oracle for Linux, Windows and Solaris -- about the key differences between them and in general -- what way is the most popular and why?
Where can I get this info?
    Thank you for your time,
    Vladimir.

I'd take a slightly different tack... If you are new to Oracle, I would tend to suggest using the operating system you're most comfortable with. If you are a Windows guy, learn Oracle on Windows, if you are a linux guy, learn Oracle on linux, etc.
Oracle is designed to be as similar as possible on a variety of operating systems. By the time you are at the point where you are noticing platform differences, you are probably at a point where you are pretty familiar with Oracle in general.

  • Premiere on a MAC vs PC.

Hello, I am a MAC user but I am considering moving to PC.  What are the significant differences between running Premiere on a MAC vs a PC?  Can one edit and output the same codec on either system?

    Hi Alacatemedia,
FYI:  there is a lot of missing info with regards to the questions that will help forum users to better answer your concerns or might be answered by reviewing the FAQ, Premiere product page or the forums (such format you are using now, legacy requirements and what are your requirements going forward?)
Here is the readers digest version.
In terms of significant platform differences?  where you'll see the difference is in the range of supported hardware (video cards, array controllers, audio cards, keyboard, mice.  Professional add-in cards SDI cards, frame capture, etc generally have support by the vendors and feature parity between Windows & OS/X.   If you use thunderbolt accessories, windows lags behind OS/X.  4k-6K workflows require more powerful CPU's for decoding, vendors of windows machine have more powerful machines than Apple.
In terms of codecs:  There are some differences:  pro-res are only outputtable on OS/X, quicktime on windows is 32 bit so there are output limitations on windows which are not present on OS/X as quicktime runtime is 64bit.  Windows has their WMV which isn't available on OS/X.
    Hope it helps.

  • Batch editing ratings problems (Beatunes related)

Is there a windows script that would enable to batch edit ratings in both the iTunes library, and within each mp3?
Secondly, is there a way to enable half star ratings in the latest 64bit version of iTunes (running on 64bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise)?
I've never used half star ratings on my iTunes library, and upon reading, am not certain if this is possible anymore.
For the last few months, I've been using Beatunes to organize my large sized iTunes library, but seem to have hit some glitches related to ratings.
In short, when I access my Itunes library via Beatunes, about 5000 songs appear to have "1/2" in the rating field.
Itunes library seems to see these songs as having no rating.
Beatunes does not allow ratings to be edited, and since the 1/2 is not seen in iTunes, I would select all those songs and use an empty tag (such as "Show") and designate the value as "Half". In iTunes, I would then select the "Show" column, and highlight all the songs with "Half" in the "Show" column, right click, and change the rating value for all songs. For testing purposes, I changed all songs to have 2 stars. When I sync the Beatunes database to the iTunes database, eventually the Beatuens ratings change to 2 stars (sometimes, it takes a few syncs).
I would then go back to iTunes, right click on all selected songs, and change rating value to "None". Most ratings change to empty values, while some decide to take on hollow star values, which is really really annoying.
I then used Steve MacGuire's ClearTrackAutoRating script on those selected tracks:
    http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/scripts.asp
When I sync the Beatunes database with the iTunes database, the songs I had rated 2 stars go back to "1/2" rating, and not an empty field.
I can't figure out what is triggering this.
I've started a thread in Beatunes forum (http://help.beatunes.com/discussions/problems/40759-half-star-ratings-problems), but figured I would start one here to ask for advice, or see if there are any other scripts I should consider trying. At this time, I have not heard back from the developer, as I just posted it a few hours ago.
One of the things I just tried doing was enabling iTunes to use half star ratings (so i could see the 1/2 rated songs would then show), but I have not been able to figure out how to do this. The most common way of altering iTunesPrefs.xml did not do anything for me:
    http://blog.beatunes.com/2011/08/showing-half-star-ratings-in-itunes.html
    http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Enable-Half-Stars-In-Itunes/
Hence why I was wondering if this hack still works on 64bit version of iTunes (running on 64bit Windows 8.1 Enterprise).
    I also came across this:
    http://www.nextofwindows.com/interesting-tip-how-to-enable-half-star-rating-in-i tunes-in-windows/
They suggest adding:<key>storefront</key> <string>143441-1,12</string> at the end of iTunesPrefs.xml
This is confusing, because my prefs already contain the following at the end:
    <key>storefront</key> <string>143455-6,17</string>
Am I supposed to keep my existent, and just add after, or do I replace what is there?
Any help/advice would be very much appreciated.

    Hi there...
I've had a quick check and the iTunesPrefs.xml hack works for me to enable half-ratings. Tested on iTunes 11.1.5 running on Windows 7 32-bit, but no reason to expect platform differences. This build displays ½ rather than a half-star. Once enabled you can set half-ratings via the iTunes interface. I haven't set back yet but presumably they will disappear if I do.
The album and track ratin properties take a value from 0% to 100%. If 0% iTunes will offer a track-auto rating based on any manual album rating and an album auto-rating based upon manual track ratings. My scripts set a manual rating of 1% which iTunes treats as less than ½ and so displays as no rating, but it suppresses any auto-rating. Presumably Beatunes is treating anything from 1%-10% as ½ star, 11%-20% as 1 star, and so on. For iTunes from 0%-9% is no stars, 10%-19% is ½ star, 20%-29% is 1 star, etc., with bigger ranges when half-ratings are not enabled.
My scripts page already has ResetAlbumAutoRating and ResetTrackAutoRating scripts if you need to remove those 1% values, or you can simply set a new rating and then remove it.
What additional batch rating task do you have in mind?

  • How do I open a .spd file?

I have a file with .spd extension that is supposed to be similar to a word document. My computer recognizes it as a binary file and none of the apps on my macbook pro seem to be able to open it. Can some one point me in the right direction, please? Thanks!

It looked - to me, and unsure - that it could come from or by a couple different sources/types files.
You can always use "Open With" and not make it default.
you can open a file from within an app. Default only tries to force a document file to open in an app, and it may be it can't but has to be imported or used in some other way perhaps.
Other avenues - if you must - would be to use VirtualBox and install Linux or Windows in a VM and play around, may be platform differences.

  • Upload not working in Windows

    When using the
    FileReference in Flex 2
    final, I get an
IOError followed by an HTTPError 403, when trying to upload
using Windows. It's the same for Internet Explorer and FireFox.
However, it works great on a mac, using both Safari and FireFox. I
can't find any information regarding this problem. I am not sure if
this is related to Flex 2 or the actual player, due to it's
    platform difference.
Can anyone confirm that file upload is working for Flex 2
    Final, and Flash Player 9.0.16.

    Alright,
So after spending a life time trying to debug the tcp flow
from windows to the server, I was giving up.
And then comes my colleague and finds this direct in google.
We are running a pretty tight ship on our server, and we've
installed mod_security, and it was blocking
    the stream... read more below.
As found in some post somewhere:
There is an issue with http error #406 that seems to be a
result of mod_security and Apache. mod_security can scan post
requests, and as this Flash post header for the FileReference
object is missing a ":"-sign (this is what the server
administrators says at the web hosting company I mostly work with)
mod_security will block that request with a #406.
I have access to two accounts at this web host
(oderland.com), which both uses an application with a Flash image
upload feature. On one of these accounts, which is hosted on a
server without a post request scan, this feature works like a
charm. But on the other one, which is hosted on another server
where the post request scan is active, this feature gets the #406
    on every try.

As for the #403 and #406 errors, try to create an .htaccess

    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
This solved the problem on my server.

  • ActionScript/javascript issues in Opera?

I have developed an mp3 player app in Flash/ActionsScript 3.0 and have it posted on a web site
for public access. It runs fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer, both on Mac and Windows
(not IE on Mac, of course). The version reported as I have it sniffed by javascript is v10.
Are there known issues with external interface and Flash in Opera?
Or issues with the Flash pluggin in Opera?
I have some other flash samples that are run with ActionScript but do not depend on
external interface and communication between AS and JS. They run fine, albeit a bit
    slower in Opera than others.
Thanks; I would get my head shaved to discourage hair tearing, but I am likely to
develope scaring in my scalp if I did.
    JK

I have been working on this and have found out that my development version does now work
on Windows Vista w/Opera 10x. It will now work a bit better on Mac OSX with Opera 10x, but
instead of moving mouse continuously to get the animations run and events to register as
animation changes in response to mouse events, I have to resize the browser window constantly.
There appears to have been some problems with my flash player version detection javascript. THis
was apparent in Internet Explorer with my dev version. I fixed it for Internet Explorer  and found that
Opera did better on Mac but still unacceptibly.
This is encouraging, but am a bit frustrated by the platform differences and don't know if
there are specific style sheet or markup quirks that would contribute to this.
As Flash depends on adequate style sheet and markup to run correctly in a web site,
as well as javascript, or other scripting language, It would be nice to include more instructional
material, or references to browser and platform specific issues that would effect.

    Hi Jeff.
    Thanks for your reply.
In the RapidMart documentation (SAP BO Project Systems RapidMart XI 3.2 for SAP solutions User Guide) it says to create a SQL Server Data Base with case sensitive collation (in my case I used Latin1_General_BIN).
I look at the table that is feeded with the Workflow that gets this error, and I didn't find any collation related code.
I try to create a DataBase with the collation that you refer and I run the ETL, but now it crashes earlier in the process with the error:

I think this is because this collation is not case sensitive.
One special note is that our Job Server is in Windows 2008 R2 64 bits and the SAP Server is on HP-UX ia64. Maybe this collation issue is related with platform differences.
    Thanks

  • Why use sliders in adjustment HUD?

Monitoring this list, I've noticed a number of posters citing performance problems with the sliders in the adjustment HUD (jerky, slow, "totally unusable", etc.).
I'm curious why the sliders are being used at all? To me the sliders adjustments are far too coarse when compared to clicking on the arrows left and right of the numeric values, holding down the shift key when larger change increments are desired, or holding down the option key when smaller change increments are appropriate. Unless I'm missing something, adjusting "by the numbers" seems to give much finer control over adjustments AND more instantaneous screen feedback (i.e., performance) than using the sliders. The sliders, while visually attractive and intuitive, are the last method I'd consider for making adjustments to image tone, color, sharpness, etc. (Remember, digital photography at its core is all about the numbers.)
Here's an example: Say I have an image with a White Balance temperature of 5200 and, from examining the image and checking neutral values where available, I decide the image color cast needs to be a bit less red. I hold down the shift key and click the left arrow by the 5200 temp value. Each click results in a change of minus 100 in the temp value, and near instantaneous feedback on the image color change, even in full screen mode. Five quick clicks and the temperature is now at 4700, I'm satisfied with the color cast of the image and move on to the next adjustment or next image. If I use the sliders to make the same adjustment, I have to do a lot of back and forth mouse movements -- overshooting or undershooting until I achieve the temperature and color cast I am aiming for. That is a frustrating way to make color cast (or other) adjustments, even with something like the Levels or HSL tools in Photoshop. Worse, Aperture may be attempting to to process/redraw the image for every tiny increment of pointer movement, leading to increased load on the graphics processor and CPU.
Truly, I mean no offense to anyone on this list, but I do wonder if some of the frustrations with Aperture performance are related to which image adjusment mechanism is being used? As with Photoshop, there are multiple ways to accomplish the same objective in Aperture and it takes time to learn the nuances and benefits of each approach -- reading the manuals, experimenting, picking up forum tips, etc.
Again, I'm asking this question primarily to explore the root causes as to why some users, including myself, are quite satisfied with Aperture performance and others are totally dissatisfied. Could it be, in addition to hardware configuration differences (graphics cards and amount of memory being prime suspects), that there is also a usage pattern element to performance?
BTW, I'm working exclusively with 12.8 MP Canon 5D raw files for my newer images, 6.3 MP D60, 10D and 20D raw files for my older images. Don't know if there is also a platform difference in performance (e.g., Canon raw vs. Nikon nef)

Enterprise Services Architecture by SAP AG changed forever how their software products were to be fashioned going forward. During this transition period, SAP R/3 morphed into R/3 Enterprise and finally ERP Central Component. Why? Strictly a client/server-based product, SAP's venerable R/3 offering was never intended or designed to support Web Services or a service-oriented architecture. Thus, in a nutshell, ECC represents the natural evolution of R/3 toward an architecture based on Web Services.
Beyond architecture, R/3 and ECC differ in other fundamental ways. Many of the differences reflect SAP AG's willingness to listen and learn from their customers. Changes to the technology stack, how it is installed, and perhaps most importantly how it is maintained account for most of the core differences between the two products; these and other differences are covered in the following sections.
    Technology Platform Differences
The fact that ECC sits upon SAP's newest WebAS platform represents perhaps the most obvious technology difference between it, R/3, and R/3 Enterprise. Interestingly, R/3 Enterprise also sits atop a version of WebAS, albeit older (6.20). The differences between the two products are summed up in how these WebAS platforms differ. WebAS offered mature XML and HTTP support in version 6.10, but did not introduce support for Web Services and J2EE until 6.20. With SOA in its infancy, and only the initial framework for ESA being put together in Walldorf at the time, SAP AG needed an update to its R/3 solution, but at the same time wanted to hold a carrot out to customers to wait just a bit longer. With WebAS version 6.30, the Java stack and true Java development capabilities were introduced. Finally, with 6.40, both the ABAP and Java stacks were updated, and the entire platform was dubbed mature, ready to take on the world of Web Services, to enable Java development, and to host joint ABAP/Java deployments. Today, the entire NetWeaver '04 solution, including SAP ECC 5.0, is built on WebAS 6.40.
But what of plain old R/3? The vast majority of SAP R/3 customer installations today are getting up in age, to the tune of four to five years (ancient for an ERP solution). Although the tide is slowly turning, SAP R/3 versions like 4.6C, 4.6B, and even 4.5B greatly outnumber R/3 Enterprise and ECC deployments. These legacy installations (the term legacy is appropriate, I believe) sit not upon WebAS but rather SAP's original custom application server, coined SAP Basis or the Basis layer.
The Basis layer was SAP's extraordinarily successful attempt at hiding the complexities of multiple database and operating system platforms. And its three-tiered design solved problems of scalability and performance that other solutions in its day faced unsuccessfully. Basis was never intended to support the Web, though; indeed, the Internet itself represented the great unknown back when SAP Basis was introduced. To that end, when SAP finally first provided web support, it did so with a completely separate product, SAP Internet Transaction Server (ITS). And the SAP Basis platform merely served as the back-end to this decidedly front-end-focused solution geared toward enabling HTML-based web users with the opportunity to access SAP.

  • Noise reduction won't display properly in LR 3.4.1 Develop Module

I encountered this issue first time last night - noise reduction will not show in "Fit" view of the Develop module for pictures that have a graduated filter applied as well. Having said this,
    - The pictures display correctly in Library Loupe view (Fit and 100%)
    - The pictures display correctly in Develop module when zooming in to 100%
    - The pictures display correctly in Develop module when clicking in history on Luminance smoothing (first picture). Selecting the next step in the history, Add Graduated Filter, displays the picture without noise reduction (second picture - I tried on a virtual copy the other way round - first have a graduated filter and then apply noise reduction, but doesn't work either. Noise reduction just won't display in Develop module / Fit View once a graduated filter is applied as well.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour or, even better, found a solution? I already tried purging the raw cache, no success. Working on Windows 7 / 64bit.
    Thanks,
    Andreas

Jeff, I had difficulty understanding this same issue as presented at the link I posted above. With my low-noise Canon DSLR RAW images I simply couldn't see the onscreen rendering issues they were talking about. It even appeared this might be unique to Mac platforms and Windows 32 bit OS, since my Windows 7 64bit system didn't appear to have this issue.
Following suggestions to shoot a picture at -4 F stops and then increase exposure by +4 F stops in LR helped me get a better understanding:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3857767#3857767
Granted this is an extreme shooting situation, but it helps demonstrate what happens when using exposure, fill and HSL sliders to increase exposure significantly (+2 to +4 EV) in specific areas of the image. Now you have noise that will be visible in smaller exported scaled images, perhaps even those sized for posting to the web.
The issue is at lower ISO settings (camera specific), view sizes less than 1:1 have no noise reduction applied (Mac & Windows) or sharpening applied (Mac & Windows 32). There appear to be platform differences in the way sharpening is applied, because on my Windows 7 64bit system sharpening is applied at all ISO and all view sizes including "fit" view, but noise reduction is only applied at higher ISO settings – the same as all others have described. I wanted to point this out since it is one of the reason I had difficulty duplicating what the OP was seeing.
We know sharpness and noise reduction settings interact with each other, so it is important to have both applied in the onscreen image to determine their affect. Using images with additive Exposure, Fill and HSL slider settings approaching +2 to +4 EV, there is simply no way to see accurate rendering without both noise reduction and sharpness applied at all view sizes, including “fit” view. This can occur with low ISO images, not just at some predetermined camera specific high ISO where noise becomes predominant.

  • Restore Upgrade issue

    Dear All,
let me explain my current situation
we have 2 server, one is running SQL Server 2008 (32 bit) and the others running SQL Server 2012 (64 bit).
when we try to backup restore the data from SQL Server 2008 (32 bit) to SQL Server 2012 (64 bit), we found that restoring process was not going so well, some of the database access, schema, was not restored well, so we have to running the script
manually to complete the back up process.
i just want to ask, is it possible that issue was caused from difference version (2008(32 bit) --> 2012(64 bit)) or is it caused by platform difference (32 to 64 bit) ?
could some on ehelp me figure it out and explain it to me, why it could happen?
    thank you so much
    Best Regards,
    Bambang

    >>> some of the database access, schema, was not restored well,
Can you expand on above? If you issue native BACKUP DATABASE command there is no way to restore the database partially? Perhaps your backup appends the files and you
restore a previous version where there was no schemes?

  • Cannot import WMV file (wmv2 standard codec)

All the help files say that Windows Media WMV files can be imported into Premiere Pro CS5, but I have a very standard WMV file using WMV2/WMA2 internal codecs and it will not import into Premiere Pro CS5.  I spent a lot of money on my Adobe products and an expensive program like this should be able to do what it says it can do.  I'm on a Mac but nowhere in the help files does it say that WMV is only supported on a Windows PC.  Also if you respond saying that WMV is a "delivery format" that will not be helpful- Adobe claims to support it for import, regardless.
How can I fix my issue with Windows Media WMV important in my FULL, NON-trial, fully paid, full legal, expensive version of Premiere Pro CS5.  Please feel free to email me via [email protected] because I have no idea how I'll find this post after I post it.

It was not meant to be anything but useful for future purchases.
One should research software, to make sure that it fits their needs, rather than purchase it, and complain that it does not work, as one would have hoped it to.
On the other side of the street, there are Mac-only CODEC's, that will not install on the PC. That is something that PC users have been fighting for a fairly long time. It is not Adobe's fault, but a dissimilarity between the platforms. Though they do seem to be getting closer together, there are still some differences between them. When an editor hits those differences, the trick is to find a way around them. Sometimes, for the PC user, it means having a Mac-user Export in a different format. The same holds for the Mac-user. There are many shops that have both platforms, so these types of problems are solved internally.
Adobe was aware of these potential problems, and made note of them. This is where it is highly incumbent on the purchaser to inform themselves, and become aware of platform differences. Adobe makes note of the formats/CODEC's that are "Mac only," as well.
Todd's suggestion to file a Feature Request is a good one, however, I think the "solution" will be for MS and Apple to get together and work out a way for each platforms' CODEC's to install and be useful on the other. I do not anticipate that Adobe can rewrite all the MS CODEC's for the Mac, and vice versa, but perhaps I am incorrect, and they are doing just that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
