GRUB unable to find file, fails to install

(FTP install via floppies, GRUB 0.96-1, installation via arch/setup utility)
GRUB fails to install, giving the error message "Error: unable to find file" after checking for a file in /boot/grub (grub.menu IIRC), and quitting without further action. Menu.1st is there, but GRUB seems to want something else.

There might be an issue relative to the used fs. I allways had problems if I tried to install grub into xfs or jfs partitions, and had to install lilo first during installation procedure. After first boot, I usually removed lilo and installed grub without any problems.

  • Unable to find a web browser installed on your system

I've used Robohelp previously, but not for some time, now I'm
getting "Unable to find a web browser installed on your system"
error when trying to generate a layout? How do I restablish my
    browser? Thanks!

    Hi jakirche
I believe it's as simple as opening Windows Explorer,
locating a file with a .HTM extension, right-clicking the file and
choosing to associate it with Internet Explorer.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Unable to find file "ConfigureClusterNode" error

    Hi All
I am trying to install UCM Cluster. According to Universal Content Management Cluster Configuration Guide for UNIX 10g Release 3 (10.1.3.3.1)
I can do this running Installer with some parameters, but I have Unable to find file "ConfigureClusterNode" error.
    [wc@hostname linux]$ ./Installer -set-ClusterNodeIntradocDir=/home/wc/cluster/node1 -set-ClusterNodeName=node1 -set-ClusterNodeAddress=10.33.33.33 -set-ClusterBinDirRule=local ConfigureClusterNode ConfigureAdminClusterNode
    Unable to find file "ConfigureClusterNode".
    The file wait.dat wasn't removed.
I need help to identify and solve the problem.

Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Forgive me, I'm about to go for a psychic cure here and pull a rabbit out of the hat, or is it a needle from a haystack!?
I'm thinking that if this remote volume was like SMB/MS-DOS/Fat32, that the "caseness" may be the problem... here's why... Uppercase may translate to be shown either Capitalized or lowercase on the other end, and although Fat32 is supposed to be/ and in fact IS Case Sensitive, many things along the way may almost rightfully expect Uppercase 8/3 format, and "Testing.df1" may show as "Testing.df1", but also "TESTING.DF1", and "testing.df1" might show as "Testing.df1", but behind the scenes it's back to reality.
Might be the most nothingness I've ever pulled out of thin air!?

  • CS2 Unable to find file errors

    Hi
We are having trouble with photoshop cs2.  We can not open most files.  Tiff, PSD, some PDF files will give an "unable to find file error".  Jpg files, and certain PDF files and TIFF files that use jpg compression work.  I have tried resetting all the settings, changing scratch disks / memory usage, uninstalling all fonts, and reinstalling the application and the problem persists.
Also i do not know if this is related but the same time we started having errors in photoshop we also have problems in Microsoft Word.  The font list shows a lot of fonts as just a white box.  Other apps can use the fonts fine.  Just not in word.
I have attatched a JPG file with screen caps of the errors.

I reset the options by doing the hold shift alt ctrl while starting up photoshop.  Also i deleted all the preference files out of the application data\adobe\photoshop folder.  Same problem persists.
Also another issue i have noticed.  Say you perform an action like erasing somthing, or changing the brightness/contrast.  You can not see the changes until you click on a different tool.  Then it updates the display.
I will try and locate the faq and see what it says.

  • [SOLVED] linux-lts GRUB "Unable to find device" error

I installed linux-lts, reconfigured GRUB, and created an initial ramdisk env,
    # pacman -S linux-lts
    # grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
    # mkinitcpio -p linux-lts
I'm able to load the linux-lts kernel from rEFInd (dual booting with MacOS), but I get the error:
Warning: /lib/modules/3.14.17-1-lts/modules.devname not found - ignoring
    ERROR: device "UUID=df842c36-41f7-4606-b219-7879cf1c4825" not found
ERROR: Unable to find root device "UUID=df842c36-41f7-4606-b219-7879cf1c4825"
and am dropped into  a recovery shell.
    However,
    % ll /lib/modules/3.14.17-1-lts/modules.devname ~
    -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 411 Aug 26 13:20 /lib/modules/3.14.17-1-lts/modules.devname
so at least the file exists.
Here's the specific lines from grub.cfg pertaining to linux-lts :

Found a few things about 30 things on the net, this,  but by my reckoning, it is not similar enough / I don't understand the solution enough to be comfortable applying it to my set up.   Tried that, it didn't work.  Seems like every issue that manifests itself in this way (esp in dual boot situations) has a different solution, ranging from blacklisting certain modules  in /etc/default/grub to reording the block and autodetect hooks in mkinitcpio.conf.
Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.
Also, here is mkinitcpio.conf (sans comments):

Is the root filesystem encrypted by default?   I would like to try a solution like adding
    cryptdevice=device:dmname
to my /etc/default/grub but I don't know what to put for dmname.  It seems like the wiki suggests stating it verbatum,
dmname is the device-mapper name given to the device after decryption, which will be available as /dev/mapper/dmname.
    I tried
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="cryptdevice=/dev/sda4:/dev/mapper/dmname"
without success.  This solution doesn't make sense if the filesystem is not encrypted.
I don't really think this applies, but I can't understand why the modules.devname would not be found when it plainly exists exactly where the system is looking for it.
    In the meantime I'm trying
    sudo mkinitcpio -k 3.14.17-1-lts -g /boot/initramfs-linux-lts.img -S autodetect
to set up the initial ram env, per this thread.
[update] the above method, referenced in the link, did not fix the issue.

  • Update to 31.0 "stub" file and full install file fail to install Firefox. Removed Firefox and tried and it STILL does not install. Windows 7 OS

The 31.0 stub file failed to upgrade on my XP system but was able to overwrite with full install file. But the Windows 7 refuses to update or overwrite. It gets as far as extracting the files and then just stops.

    Try this:
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
*Start the installation with a double-click on the desktop icon

  • System cannot find file specified during install officejet 6500

I started my HP solution center software today to do some scanning over my wireless connection.  I received a message box indicating I needed to reinstall the original software that came with my OfficeJet 6500 wireless 709n printer.  when I started the software it recieved the message 'system cannot find file specified'.  No information was given on what file it was looking for.  I then downloaded the software from the HP site (OJ_AIO_6500_E709_Full_Win_WW_140_408.exe) and encountered the same result.  I hookup up my printer via USB and it appeared to go looking for driver updates.  After that the HP solution center software would run but would only connect to my printer if the USB was connected.  Still cannot run the printer software set.
I recently upgraded my windows 8 64-bit to window 8.1.  It worked before that.  This is not the only software that was broken by the process.  Any help on how I can re-establish my wireless connection to my Officejet 6500 would be appreciated.
I also tried the Microsoft 'Fixit' solutions but they are not available for windows 8.1 :-)...

    Hello All,
Try using the scrubber built into the CD or download.
    From original CD installation:
    1. Insert CD into drive, and then cancel the installer.
    2. Open  "Computer", and then right click on the CD drive and choose open.
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the L3uninstall.exe (near the bottom of the list).
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    8. Restart the computer.
    9. Download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard.
    10. When it comes to the screen asking to accept the terms, don't yet. There will be a few options near the top of the Window. I need you to choose "Connection settings" or "Internet connection usage settings" (It will be something similar to what I just stated). It will give you the options to turn off automatic updates, I will need you to change all of these options to "Off" / "No".
    11. Once they're set to "Off" / "No", continue with the installation like you did before.
If software was downloaded and extracted to your system:
    1. Type %temp% in the run field
    2. Look for, and open the folder starting with 7z (Example: 7zS2356)
    3. Open folder Util
    4. Open folder CCC
    5. Run the L3uninstall.exe (near the bottom of the list).
    6. When the uninstall has completed restart the computer
    7. Download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
    8. Restart the computer.
    9. Download and run the HP Printer Install Wizard.
    10. When it comes to the screen asking to accept the terms, don't yet. There will be a few options near the top of the Window. 11. Once they're set to "Off" / "No", continue with the installation like you did before.
Also, make sure all of the Windows Updates have been completed.
Let me know if this works.
    Thank you,
I worked on behalf of HP.

  • Unable to find files upon opening...

Every time I open my project, I get a pop up that says the program is unable to locate certain files. The files have not been moved on my computer (and have previously been uploaded into Premiere). It's never the same files... can be a jpeg image or a mov video file... and once I find it, everything is fine. However, the next time I open my project, it starts all over again (but often times with completley different files). What's going on???

As Steve points out, the only reason for this message is that the Path of those files has changed, or at least PrE thinks that they have changed. This could be due to drive letter assignment, Renaming, Deleting, Moving.
Your PREL, Project File, is but an XML database with only links to the media files, and instructions on what to do to them. Those files are linked via the Path, where they were located, when you Imported them. If that is altered in any way, then PrE will ask, "Where is file ____ ?" Fortunately, when you navigate to that file's location, PrE will then link to all other media files used in that Project in that folder. If the files are in several folders, you will need to then navigate to the next folder, where all used files in it will be re-linked.
As Steve points out, a common issue is with externals, that often get different drive letters, depending on which devices are plugged in to the computer, and in which order. Remember, the Path is absolute. If you original Path was E:\PrE_Projects\[Project Name]\Stills, but now you are looking at F:\PrE_Projects\[Project Name]\Stills, you WILL need to locate those files.
I use externals to migrate my Projects between my workstation and my laptop. Each external has a unique driver letter, and that is set in the OS of each computer. That means that external Z:\ is Z:\ on all of my computers, regardless of what else might be plugged in, and in which order.
If the Path has not changed in any way, then I would think about a failing HDD, and read/write errors.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Unable to find file error while loading data from text file to Oracle

    Hi,
I am having a interface where i am loading a data of Text file to Oracle.
But when i am trying to do this i am getting following error.
ODI-1227: Task SrcSet0 (Loading) fails on the source FILE connection SAPMM.
Caused By: java.sql.SQLException: File not found: d:/mdb/#General.get_filename

         at com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.file.CommandExecutor.executeCommand(CommandExecutor.java:33)
    SAPMM is connection name.
I am using get_filename to get the filename and it is fetching correct value as the this variable refreshes in previous step of this interface.
KM used for loading is File to SQL
What would be cause of this error?
    Thanks,
    Mahesh

    Hi,
Did a testing and following are the result
    I have
A> created package having steps like
    1. Declaration of variable v_filename.
    2. Refreshing variable v_filename.
    3. Execution of Interface which gets the file name from v_filename and load into target table
    Package executes successfully.
B> created package having steps like
    1. Declaration of variable v_filename.
    2. Refreshing variable v_filename.
    3. Scenario of Interface which gets the file name from v_filename and load into target table
Package executes with erre as it is not able to find the file
C> created package having steps like
    1. Declaration of variable v_filename.
    2. Refreshing variable v_filename.
    3. Execution of Interface which gets the file name from v_filename and load into target table
    4. Now create a scenario of the package , use the generated scenario in another package say main_package
    Execution of main_package is successful.
    Thanks,

  • When I click on a link in an email I always get a message 'General failure URL :.... unable to find file' and seconds later the web address opens. Is there anyway to stop this?

I get a message saying 'General Failure. The URL was: ".........". The system cannot find the file specified' whenever I click on a link in an email and then seconds later the web site opens. If I open firefox and then click a bookmark or search I don't have a problem

  • Unable to find files younger than 7 Days old in FINDER

When I save a file I can't find it until it is about a week or so old - or so it seems.
I have just save several screen shots to my iMac to illustrate this point but I can't find them. When opening my HDD to find them (either in Desktop or a special Sceenshots folder I set up by TinkerTool) my only options are:-
    Previous 7 Days
    Previous 30 Days
    Earlier
Same applies if I try to use the 'Find' under File in the Finder Menu bar.
Even if I use "Finder Menu/File/Find" to search -
    "This Mac"
    "Last opened date" is
    "within last" 1 "days"  -
all I get returned is the last folder(s) opened within the last 7 days. No files at all.
Something is wrong here? What have I messed up?  I'm sure this was fine a while ago - may be six months ago?  I've been using Macs for years. I've never come across this sort of problem before.  Help would be very much appreciated please!
TinkerTool has been reset to before it was started, incidentally.

In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and and com.apple.desktop.plist. Move the .plists to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plists from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plists to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

  • Unable to find file [any file].htm in the Configuration/Floaters directory (CS6) [Solved]

This is more of an answer than a question. I had been having this problem all of a sudden, and none of the solutios I'd found on Adobe or anywhere else were working. SO sicne the easy route wasn't working, I looked at it myself.
A key lead came from an answer on Adobe Forum in that the problem exists in the last configuration you were using (e.g., Desginer, Coding, Dual Screen, etc). The issue is that one of the XML entires lists an item that DW doesn't like, so you need to delete that entry and everything is great.
    Close Dreamweaver.
On the PC, look in C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS6\en_US\Configuration\Workspace for a file with the name of [your configuration].xml, and open it with a text editor.
    Look for "id=[your configuration]"
Delete the <panelframe></panelframe> that contantains that id in the previous step.
    Save and close the file.
    Open Dreamwweaver.
In my case the problem was com.html and my Workspace Configuration was Dual Screen. So I edited "Dual Screen.xml" and deleted the <panelframe></panelframe> that contained id="com" saved it, and started Dreamweaver without the error.
My only question is that since this is a not uncommon error, why the #$%^&* isn't Adobe support able to provide this info? Or, better yet, since their start-up process can find the spcific error, why aren't they capable of simply deleting that Panelframe data as a restult of the error and taking care of it that way?
    Anyway, good luck with this!

BTW, I'm sorry for my horrible typing in the intial post.

  • Export to iTunes, unable to find file

    Gentlefolk;
Please forgive the very newbie question. I have the Checkbook app, which is great, but I want to have the app do some simple summing of monthly expenses. This is apparently does not do, but it does export out to CSV format. Given that, I can pop into Excel and go nuts.
After the export, the prompt says to recover the file in iTunes. But it doesn't say how. This apparently is so self-evident that no further direction is needed.
The support at iBear said with the iPad connected to the computer, go to the Apps tab and scroll to the Common files and get the export from there. But I have no "Common" files in the App store, nor does anything like that appear in the iPad that I can tell. I could grouse about lack of file access, but moving on....
So, I tried to export a Numbers app to iTunes thinking I could find THAT. But I cannot.
So, when something is exported to iTunes, just where the deuce is it to be found?
    Many thanks.
    Don

Try opening the stereo file in Quicktime Movieplayer and check the info:
    1. Control click on the file.
    2. From the contextual menu that pops up choose "open with" and select QuicktimePlayer.
    3. When the file opens press ⌘ + i to get info on the file.
    4. Is the original file 16 bit 44.1 khz? Or if it is an mp3, is it stereo, 44.1 khz?It needs to be for GB to read it correctly.
