GUI Unresponsive, some windows are blank, why?

Taking my first steps in Solaris - SXCE on a new Ultra 40. So far the SunStudio interface has been very buggy for me. I need some help getting SunStudio(any) AND NetBeans (6.01) installed cleanly and working correctly.
While installing SS12 the interactive-installer window would pop-up fine, but totally blank, no text, buttons or anything would render in the window. Had to use the CLI installer. Then decided to replace with SS-Express to get NB-6.01. The uninstaller kept doing the same thing. Think I uninstalled all of SS12 with 'prodreg' but not really sure. it was a mess...
Installed SS-Express and at least once the 'auto-update' window similarly failed to render correctly. Also the GUI is now SLOW. Like pull down the side-scroll bar on the start-page and it will happen 10 seconds later. All other desktop apps remain fully responsive..Noticed 'Java' was using lots of CPU while this was happening.
I'm at a loss, so any help is appreciated!

This kind of blitting occurs when one attempts to draw translucent images, including
anti-aliased text.
The last time I saw this was in a version of nb 6.1 (post SunStudio12 express release)
in the welcome page. Note how the stack trace shows that it's the welcome page being repainted.
But it only was noticable if you xhosted which drastically
reduces the latency of the x protocol. I'm surprised that this is happenning in non-networked X.
To verify the above please uncheck the "always show" checkbox in the welcome page, close it and
see if things improve.
There is a fix for this problem with the welcome page. While you verify I'll
try and see which version it's in and how we can get this fix out.

Having trouble viewing photos in Picasa Web albums. When I upload them from my Picasa program to the web, some do not get loaded. Lots of blanks between photos.
Help from Picasa told me It was a problem with Mozilla Firefox to "Right-click the placeholder of. browser, however, I have been unable to do this.

If images are missing then check that you aren't blocking images from some domains.

* Check the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
* Check that images are enabled: Tools > Options > Content: [X] Load images automatically

There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and security software (firewall, anti-virus) that can block images.

Ever since the upgrade my all of my folders' windows are blank! What can I do to fix this??

I can see the emails on my cell phone. I can compose and send and email. I can see the Thunderbird new introductory welcome message in the box but when I click any of the folders nothing is in the window, the windows are blank. I've uninstalled and reinstalled.

Some images are blank in the windows

Ads appear normal but photos and other images, like the calculator in the yahoo home page or news photos are blank squares. The imac G5 is new. It has a 2.16 GHx processor. It worked normal then developed this problem after a fooled around with the mouse settings. Anybody know how to get the images to appear? If I open the image in another window it appears.

I have experienced similar problems; i.e., Quicktime logo with a question mark displayed in place of frame content or simply blank. Experience varies by webpage.
Go to /Safari/Preferences/Security. You will see 4 choices under Web Content. From experimentation it appears that for website optimized for Explorer, un-checking "Enable JavaScript" will fix the problem but on other websites; e.g., Apple sites, this will disable some links. In other cases leaving JavaScript active and un-checking Enable plug-ins has the opposite effect.
Appears to be a bug in Safari - 10.5 compatibility. Under 10.4 you can try moving QuickTime Plugin.plugin to the desktop from /Library/Internet Plug-ins.

Allowed Pop Up Windows are Blank

i've only recently encountered this problem in the past month. the sites i know are affected are fanfiction.net and scribophile.com.
fanfiction.net is using a javascript;; for editing a link in one's profile.
scribophile.com is using a php to send a private message: http://www.scribophile.com/dashboard/popups/addprivatemessage.php?userid=17380
in both instances, a new-fangled looking white window pops up. (the fanfiction.net one even resizes itself and has a fancy top border). they are blank, utterly without content. they have a close X in the top corner that does close them. the php one is even blank when i choose to open it in a new tab like a regular page.
i have adblock plus and noscript. although i have tried turning them off for these particular web sites, the pop up windows still come out blank.
i have tried these solutions:
1: disable adblock plus and tell noscript to allow everything on the page(s). this does not work.
2: run firefox in safe mode. the popup windows then DO work.
3: i have gone to the firefox options and created exceptions to pop-up blocking for both sites. no joy.
4: i have gone into the add-on manager and disabled both adblock plus and noscript (but not other add-ons). no joy.
5: i have, one at a time, disabled every other add-on i have. no joy.
it appears to me that it is not actually the add-ons that are causing this behavior. although the windows work in firefox in safe mode, the same cannot be said of manually turning off the add-ons in "unsafe" mode.
is anything else going on in firefox that might be causing this behavior? i don't think it's the pop-up blocker, since the pop-ups DO appear... but no content inside. ugh.

In Illustrator CS4 in Mac OS 10.6.2 my windows are blank

When I open Illustrator CS4, and open a new or older document, the windows (action, brushes, layers, pathfinder, etc) are blank. If I close and reopen Illustrator I have a 50/50 chance that they will appear. At times I have had to close and reopen numerous times. Any thoughts? No new hardware or programs added since installation of CS4.(I already uninstalled and re-installed)

Dumping preferences was done. Restarting as you suggested has opened another symptom - I do not get a dialog box and most plugins don't load. I can use the program but with limited features. I have restarted normally for twenty times in a row and the windows are showing. So we shall see.
Hopefully it will behave itself.

Some Photos are blank after conversion from Aperture

Library contains 45K photos .. migrated from Aperture. For some reason a large number of the photos have meta data but are blank. Where have they gone?

Two photos .. appear to be dupes .. but the case of the file NAME is different. The UPPERCASE JPG is blank .. the lowercase .jpg is not.

After rearranging icons on Springboard, some icons are blank

I moved several apps to different locations or pages. When I turned on the phone this morning, most of the app icons are blank. I resynced with iTunes but now both iTunes and the iPhone are showing blank icons. How do I get the icons back?

I unchecked all additional apps on the iPhone from the iTunes app tab and then resynced to remove the apps from the device. I then checked the apps again and resynced. The icons were no longer blank on the iPhone Springboard but were no longer arranged on the pages I had moved them to. I'll live with this solution until someone else posts a reply.

FireFox, despite being in a separate window, which is suponque a separate instance, when leaving the menu "exit" All the windows are closed, why is that? It has some configuration that prevents this?

Smart Sharpen and Reduce Noise preview windows are blank

Hello,
I am using Photoshop CS5 64 bit with WIndows 7
Whenever I try to use the Smart Sharpen or Reduce Noise image menu items, the preview window for both
these applications are always blank.
My images are mostly 16 bit with some 8 bit but I always get the same blank preview window
Any help would be appreciated

Always check your LAYERS panel to ensure you've activated the image layer on which the pixels reside, and not an adjustment layer. Also make sure you've clicked on the image if there's a layer mask present, so the filter won't be inadvertntly working on the mask.
Assuming you're not on the wrong layer, have you checked to see whether new drivers are available from the web site of the maker of your video card? Many, many display problems are resolved by updating display drivers.

Can only see desktop background & windows are blank

My computer (a G4 MDD) is not starting up properly. It will start up but icons, the dock, and text in the menu bar will not appear. It appears the computer works. I had an alert pop up which only appeared as a white window box. I couldn't read it. I only knew what it said because I previously had set up for alerts to be read by the computer. I was able to hit enter and the window went away. Looks like I strictly can not see anything on the computer. I can't find any info on this anywhere. Hope someone can help! (Also, this happened after the computer was forced off during a software update -- of what, I'm not 100% since I wasn't there but I believe it was at least iTunes and a Security Update.)

To do this, change the value of the following registry subkeys to 3 (Manual) or 4 (Disabled)：

These are inactive functions. You can toggle them to Active/Inactive with the menu painter function F7.

IDVD 4.01: Some menus/folders are BLANK after burn. HELP!

I have a eMac, G4, 1GHz, 512mb and up to this point, iDVD has worked flawless.
I'm working on a large project. Probably the largest I've ever done with iDVD. There are many pictures, several movies, a whole bunch of seperate folders, and everything has audio... The DVD previews perfect. Everything is the way I need/want it. However, the contents of some folders are blank (appearing black) after a burn. I'm stumped? I've tried recreating the folders, movies, images, audio in the affected areas. But, it's almost random! After some burns one folder will come out ok and a different one is affected. I'll fix one and the one I just fixed is blank! Any ideas? (I'm at witts end here)
I've set iDVD to the 'Quality' setting in the perfs so it rebuilds everything on every burn. I've deleted all assets several times before a burn.

Wow. Nobody had a soultion to this one...
I decided a drastic change was needed. I absolutly had to get this DVD created. I assumed that either there was a problem with OS X 10.2.X, iDVD 4.01 or a Firmware problem with my Superdrive. The Firmware update for the Superdrive required OS X 10.3.8 or greater. So, that's what I did... I upgraded to OS X 10.4.2 and iLife 5. After the 2hr install and updates were applied, I attempted a burn. IT WORKED! I fixed the problem with a $70 purchase on eBay. I'm a happy Mac user once again.

Some photos under face are blank

When i use a face detection in a Thumbnails section some photos are blank.
This happens when I use a square thumbnails, but if i change a format on full, the photos are displayed correctly!
I try to rebuild a thumbnails and the permission of my iphoto library, without result. Thanks Stefano

I had that on one photo that had been edited. When I reverted to the original the thumbnail in the Faces section displayed properly.
