HANA and BW cubes

hello there
I've got one question which is not very clear for me. So, there are transactions which migrates metadata and data itself from Infocube to BW tables and optimize the source data with de-normalization of dim table. process also is more/less clear for me. Just wanted to know officially or not - are there any plans to create Analytical views automatically or this is out of the question?
Performance is much better if we use these views compared to standard column store table.

Looks like some confusion here.
1) Analytic Views are not faster than BW Queries. See The OLAP Compiler in #BWonHANA for more details, but in many cause BW will be faster.
2) There is no automatic view creation for this reason but you can create them manually if you feel you need them

  • HANA and the Overall Confusion

    HI All,
We just got back as well and boy are there so many opinions on HANA, the roadmap, etc. We decided to place this topic and group all questions we've read from earlier posts along with what other customers were saying and asking.
    1. Does SAP HANA replace BI?
The way we look at this is BWA came out around 4-6 years ago (if we recall correctly).  Of the 15,000+ customers that have BI installed, how many adopted BWA (have implemented and using)?  Can this same conversion rate be said for HANA (meaning only a certain % of customers that either have BWA already or don't have BWA (so never implemented BWA) will implement HANA)?
It sounds like there will almost be 2 Data Warehouse solutions with SAP going forward.  Traditional BI the way it exists now and then HANA.  With HANA you get real-time data and instant query performance.  From what we've read and heard this past week a "HANA BI" will be a new set of tools to develop reporting solutions.  Now, how about all the transformation that currently occurs in traditional BI.  Updating to a cube there is most of the time some transformation, lookups, that happen to create a record.  Sure, HANA is in memory, but this same type of data transformation must happen to create a single record in some type of "InfoProvider" that BOBJ can read from and display in, for example, SAP Dashboarding, Crystal, Webi.
I have not seen or heard one explanation into the "SAP HANA" Data Warehouse approach.  Can someone comment regarding this most important point 1?
    2. Will SAP continue 5-10 years down the road to support "Traditional BI"?
We don't see moving to HANA.  Sure concept sounds great, but we didn't see the need for BWA (data volume just not there) and we don't see the need for HANA.  We have less than 1% of our BI applications we need updated more regular than nightly.  So these exception solutions we load several times throughout the day.  This works for us.
    3. What does this mean for our RDBMS, meaning ORACLE?
Does HANA mean customers using ORACLE, for example, can remove this hardware piece altogether in the future?  Side note:  If your ORACLE, what in the world are you thinking?
    4. Is HANA going to be adopted and implemented more quickly on the ECC side than BI side first?
We assume SAP will concentrate on the ECC side first, thus maybe making a decision to go to HANA a possibility.  We really only hear what it does for BI, not ECC.
We could be confused, as everyone else, but I think the above would really clarify things for many.
    Please comment.
    Thanks!

    Hi everyone,
Many have added what they know and it's been a great discussion.  Based on reading more blogs, forums, presentations, etc...  Here are some more thoughts:
We see one presentation that states basically the vision is HANA will replace the DB (in time) for your ERP, CRM, BI, APO, etc solution to run on (everything really).  All real-time data and of course great query performance (like BWA and now Sybase IQ that we just read about).   So the questions are:
    1. What is the difference between BWA, Sybase IQ and HANA?  Are BWA and Sybase the same (column storage for query performance) only (and the answer we believe is yes for both (we know BWA is) and HANA delivers this query performance advantage along with real-time data that BWA and Sybase IQ cannot deliver?
    2. Why would SAP position HANA as a, eventual, DB replacement and build the Information modeler where you can build a data warehouse?  Is it a end-all solution for your entire ERP and BI solutions?  If it's a DB basically, or positioned this way, why spend the time building tools to build a EDW?  Wouldnt' they want you to puchase HANA as the "DB" and put BW on top?
    3. Why would any new customer purchase BW with HANA available (maybe some time before it delivers exactly what a BW does), but with HANA having modelling tools you can build the EDW there, no need for a BW "on top".  We don't get the BW "on top" we seen in presentations from SAP themselves.
    4. With building a EDW in HANA itself, it appears the fontend tools would have to be BOBJ related like Crystal, Xcelsius (or dashboarding we think it's called now) and Webi?  BEX, WAD, Query Designer are BW tools specifically.  So is this a way to get the BOBJ licenses increased.
We've never seen a roll-out of the same, yet different, yet the same products before like this.  The Sybase IQ we just read about from the earlier post.  This in-memory technology has been around for some time it appears, it's nothing brand new.  How are these 3 products working together, or don't they?
    5. We brought this up before in that BWA has been out for around 5+ years now.  Of the around 15,000 BW customers how many actually adopted/implemented BWA?  We don't see much demand out there as far as companies looking for this skillset.  Having said this, how many of the 15,000 existing BW customers will move to HANA?  Just a guess, but something for conversation.
    6. Finally, and disagree if you'd like, there is no doubts that there is no single solution that will fit every customer and their specific needs.  We think, but not sure, that there is a place for all these solutions.  Some being the following:
    a. Standalone HANA for BW (mainly new customers with no existing BW)
    b. HANA + BW "on top" (new solutions developed in HANA and either existing solutions left in BW as is or over time migrated to HANA
    c. Standalone BW as it stands today (this is basically what we said earlier about how many existing BW customers will adopt HANA or stay on BW because the nightly dataloads meet their business needs).  Not every customer, like a smart metering, airlines, retail need real-time data analysis.
Everyone please comment on some or all of the above.
    Enjoy!

  • Remote and Transactional Cube

    Dear Friends,
How a Basic Cube differs from a Transactional and Remote Cube ?
A Small Example-  Cube Carries the Transaction data of Customer ,Material, Sales details ( characteristics) and price, Quantity and Revenue (keyfigures) .
When do we Really have to Change or to Create the Other Cubes to hold those Data ?
What is the Exact Purpose that a Scenario Needs the Remote and Transactional Cube ?
I hope Remote Cube Can be created with "Infoservices" and "Source system" . What is the demand for both these options?
    Thanks well in advance ,
    Ramesh

    hi,
Remotecbue will have  only structure and It does't hold any data.
and it is used to bring live data to BW ..At the time of reporting only the data fetches from the source system. So it takes more time to execute.
it will not hav update rules...
Transactional InfoCubes are used only in conjunction with SEM. The data from this kind of InfoCube is accessed transactionally, meaning data is written to the InfoCube (possibly by several users at the same time) and reread as soon as possible. Basic InfoCubes are not suitable for this. You should use Basic InfoCubes for read-only access (for example, when reading reference data).

  • Data not matching for a key figure in ODS and In CUBE.

There is one key figure ( Net Units) where in the data is not matching in ODS and in CUBE for only one particular fiscal week (200714)but for the rest of the weeks its matching.
The data  is  first loaded in to ODS and from there in to CUBE and the source is from flat file.
The cubes are not compressed .so I checked the DB aggregation in the field selection for output screen but still it’s not matching .( based on the infocube addition property some times if a file is loaded multiple times it adds up in the infocube so when the cubes are not compressed we manually select this option) .
What might be the possible cause for this ???
    thanks in advance
    jayakrishna

    HI,
By any chance if you have loaded same the delta twice into the cube, then there might be the chance of the corrupt data. SO identify the lowest level of document where u can identify the difference.I mean if possible 0calday wise or document leve wise or sales org wise etc. and try to find out where is the difference. Then check in the change log of the oDS, whether the request has gone into cube twice. last option is selectively delete the data from the cube for the week and load a full repair from the ODS for that week.

  • Open Orders are negitive in ODS and Info cube

    Hi,
Our ODS is getting data from sales order Item data and from ODS data is going to Info cube.
The problem is that: for few sales orders some open orders are deleting in R/3 but same records are reversing
the old records due to this in the ODS and info cube sales orders Quantity is negative but the orders are not negitive.
Could any one let me know how do we can ressolve it.

  • Problem with Delivery, Sales and Conditions cubes

    Hello everybody,
I will be thankful to you all if you can send a reply ASAP as I need the solution immediately . I have 2 Questions:
    No.1:
I am developing Delivery, Sales and Conditions cubes. I am using 2LIS_11_VAITM data source for Sales, 2LIS_12_VCITM for Delivery, and 2LIS_11_VAKON for Conditions. Here I have a problem. I am putting the 3 Cubes in a Multiprovider. I am planning to use 0DOC_NUMBER (Sales Document number) to combine these 3 cubes in a Multiprovider. 0DOC_NUMBER is mapped to VBELN field for Sales and Conditions cubes. But I have mapped VBELN to 0DELIV_NUMB in Delivery Cube. But I need a 0DOC_NUMBER in the Delivery cube as well inorder to join the 3 cubes in a Multiprovider. Can I use field VBELV(Originating document) from the Delivery Data source, 2LIS_12_VCITM, and map it to 0DOC_NUMBER? Will VBELV give me the same data as VBELN? Or should I map VBELN from Delivery datasource to 0DOC_NUMBER in the Delivery cube and not include 0DELIV_NUMB in the cube? Or Is there any other way to do this? We are using BW 3.5.
    No.2:
My second Question is that in the Conditions cube, should I need to create different Key figures to store the Condition values for different Condition types or is one Key figure is sufficient to store the condition values for different condition types? We have 4 condition types.
Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Kind Regards,
    Swathi.

    Hi Swathi
IF you are developing your own cubes and using the standard infosources you can include sales order number in 2lis_12_vcitm. Just check if sales order number is preosent in 2lis_12_vcitm. if present you can map that to 0doc_number and then load it the cube.
    2. As there are no condition type present in sales and delivery, you will not get the data in the report based on multiprovider. If you want only condition types data then you can directly write a report on condition cube.
it completely depends on how you design your multiprovider.

  • How to build the Logical cube and physical cube

    Hi All,
I have to build the logical cube and physical cube ,i dont have idea about this ,that means i think for that we have to do the partition for the cube
may i correct , correct me if i wrong ,plz help me on this
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1. Firsty, logical model and physical model are the terms ,which we generally use in the context of database modelling excercise.
    2. Coming to essbase, I am not sure ,what exactly you are trying to co relate . but as you termed 'partitions'. There is one of the types in partitioning called 'Transparent Partition'. Where, you have one cube ( which has data in it) and you can have one mroe cube ( which actually has no data in it). But it can be connected to the former cube with the help of transparent partition. This way, you have 2 cubes , but only one cube has data in it.

  • ODS objects and Info-cubes

Could someone clarify my understanding of the difference between ODS and basic cubes?
My understanding is that the ODS is updated from R/3 and is a flat structure, or a basic database which is write-optimised.  The data in the ODS is then updated into the info-cube at a more summarised level.
The info-cube provides enhanced reporting capability because it is structured as a star-schema which introduces additional dimenions (via the dimension tables) to enrich the contents of the fact table.
Does the ODS update both fact table and dimension table in the star schema?
    Many thanks,
    Frederick

    Hi Frederick,
If that doesn't solve your concern... then go ahead
1.ODS is a two dimensional object
2.ODS is a datastore where you can store data at a very granular level.
3.Technically there is the option to overwrite or add single records.
4.ODS can be used for detailed level of reporting( same as in r/3),
(cube can be used for aggregate level of reporting.)
5.ODS are used to consolidate data
1.Whereas cube is a based on multidimensional modeling which facilitates reporting on diff dimensions.
2.The data is stored in an aggregated form unlike ODS and have no overwriting capability.
    3. Reporting and analysis can be done on multidimensions unlike on ODS
    4. InfoCubes are optimized for reporting
    5. There are options to improve performance like aggregates and compression.
    5. It is not possible to replace single records, all records sent to InfoCube will be added up.
You may get a doubt why first load to ODS and then to Infocube, the strategy of adding ODS
in dataflow is termed as addtion of EDW(Enterprise Datawarehouse) layer which will allow
us to retrieve data within BW if at all some thing goes wrong & we lose data from InfoCube.
We can get the data from ODS itselft into cube without going to the source sytem again.
Please search SDN & you will get a lot of docs on this:

  • CRM Sales and ECC Delivery and Billing cube ods info

We have already activated the ODS( OCRM_SALO) and the cube(OCSAL_CO3) for the sales order item level info and loaded data from the CRM system.
Our next aim is to load the delivery  and Billing data from the ECC( or ERP). This is where we are a little confused.
We see a lot of ODS in the info area CRM> ERP Analytics> Sales and Distribution Analysis SAP R/3 SD
Not sure which ODS object and Cubes to activate and load.
    Any help will be rewarded.
    Thanks

    Hello,
You can use BADI CRM_DATAEXCHG_BADI method crm_dataexch_after_bapi_fill.
In this method the field REQ_DLV_BL in internal table ct_bapischdlx can be cleared when CRM sends a delivery block with value space. When this field is cleared this means for ERP: Do not takeover delivery block and run the logic to determine the delivery block (including from material status).
Please bear in mind that this will lead to a system behaviour that a value of space for delivery block cannot be transferred anymore from CRM to ERP. This means the delivery block cannot be reset anymore from the CRM side, it can only be removed in ERP.  If you use data exchange scenario A, it should not be a problem for you as the sales order can also be changed in ERP and thus the delivery block can be removed in ERP.
    Best regards,
    Maggie

  • New idea - let's combine SCN Point System with HANA and with iPad Explorer

    Hello,
please see this idea and support it if you like it
    https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/ideas/7617
I believe that it would be both nice demonstration of SAP HANA and BOBJ Explorer capabilities as well as very useful thing.
    Tomas

    Hello,
yes.. iPhone and iPad and maybe Explorer for other platforms (not sure what everything SAP produced) would be nice bonus.
All PC users would get Explorer experience from their PC.
Somehow I think that this would be nice logical way how to make people familiar with using these technologies and how to make demo "without making demo".

  • Custom Fields and OLAP Cubes - PS2007

    Hi!
I can include a custom field directly to olap cube per database?
I need have these fields (without lookup table) in olap cube "Portfolio_Analyzer"
    Tks.

    Hi Alex,
In the OLAP section of the server settings, you can add custom field by types (projects, tasks, resources or assignments). Note that free text fields CANNOT be added to OLAP cubes (refer to the links I give you at the end of my reply). You just have to select
the CF and to add it to the right part:
Note that you have to differenciate measure and dimension:
Cube Dimensions Specify the custom fields you want to add to the OLAP database as dimensions. The selected custom fields will be added to both timephased and non-timephased cubes, when applicable.
Cube Measures Specify the custom fields you want to add to the cube as measures. The selected custom fields will be added to the related Non-Timephased cube.
Finally you can add MDX expression (new measures created with formulas based on existing fields) to any of the 14 cubes.
Please find some useful links below (some are for PS2010, but still applicable):

  • Transporting Info areas and info cubes with all the contents

    Hello Guru's,
I want to transport Info areas and info cubes with all the contents from 1 system to another. How can this be achieved.
Background... these belong to the system ($tmp), i already tried assigning them to a package and transported to the system, but only definitions have been copied over, there is no master data for any characteristics (i.e every characteristic is empty), there are no Hierarchies for any characteristics, there is no transaction data ===> effectively only the definitions is copied, but everything is emtpy.
    Regards, Jatin

No way to transport contents along with structure from on system to another.
    Different system contains different data
DEV system has only rough data. So developed objects will be tested with rough data for  consistancy of objets.
Quality system  has some amount of original data. After transporting the delveloped objects  from DEV to Quality  we need to test  the oblects with some original data in Quality.
Production or Live system has only live data. Afer testing complted  in DEV and Quality ( with rough and Some amount of original data ) if the objects  are giving desired values as per the requrements we need to transport them to Production system.
considering the above criteria no use of transporting data from one sysstem to another.

  • Difference between BW on HANA, Native HANA and HANA Enterprise..?

    Hi Experts,
I am learning SAP HANA modeling.
I am not able understand why there are three terminologies i.e., BW on HANA, NAtive HANA and HANA enterprise..
Could you please tell me the "Difference between BW on HANA, Native HANA and HANA Enterprise..?"""
I searched in sdn but not getting required info.
Please share the links if you have.
    Thanks
    Asha

    Asha,
BW is a SAP Business Application, which can run on many traditional relational databases and on the SAP HANA database, BW on HANA is the BW application running on the HANA database, for details please see http://scn.sap.com/community/bw-hana/faq
Native HANA means in general that the code has been developed on HANA and specifically for HANA. For example BW has coding which can run on all databases which are certified for BW, and new code developed specifically for HANA = HANA native.  Or another example, HANA studio is a native HANA application.
HANA enterprise is a license version of HANA. You can buy runtime licenses to run BW on HANA for example, and you can buy the enterprise license, which is a very comprehensive license to use many HANA capabilities. Please see your SAP account executive or SAP partner for details.

  • Activation / Supending of Trial for ABAP on HANA and BW 7.4 time out

    Hi altogether,
until today, the CLOUD solution ABAP on HANA and Netweaver BW 7.4 on HANA worked  perfectly.
But today (22/01/2015) I get either Time-out Problems when activating or supsending.
Currently one instance is active and is not suspending. Error message: Suspending did not complete in 1200s. Could you please invest the reason?
    Regards,
    Jürgen

    Hi Juergen,
According to Error Codes - Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud the description of IncorrectInstanceState is:
The instance is in an incorrect state, so the requested action can't be completed. For example, some instance attributes, such as user data, can only be modified if the instance is in a 'stopped' state.
If you are associating an Elastic IP address with a network interface, ensure that the instance that the interface is attached to is not in the 'pending' state.
Could you check for errors in the AWS management Console or contact Amazon?
    Best regards,
    Stanimir
