Headphones/Earbuds and Firmware questi

I just bought a Zen Touch 20G, and the headphones/earbuds whatever ya wanna call them just don't do the player justice. I've looked at many headphones but since I wear glasses anything that covers the ears interfear with my glasses.
I looked at the MDR-EX7SL/WK($50), but the plug is a straight plug not a L shaped plug. wouldn't that add more weight on to the headphobe jack on the player? I was also looking at the MDR-EX8LP/W($50) and MDR-EX5LP/BLU($40) the specs on all 3 are nearly identical. anyone had any experience with any of these headphones/earbuds? Any imput would be great.
I know the Zen Touch has a slight freezing problem. my brother got one almost 3 months ago and it froze on him once. My friend got one a few weeks ago his also froze on him. both had the latest firmware. I was wondering if the next firmware for the Zen Touch will fix this problem

Essentially the EX5 were the orignal Sony canalphone in this range, then the EX7 was released which has a short wire with an extension (presumably to be compatible with players that use wired remotes) and then recently the EX8 was released which has clips over the ears I believe.
I have both the EX5 and EX7 and could hear no difference in actual quality, and they both had the right-angle plug.
There's no news on what the next firmware will fix, and often stability isn't something that will be mentioned in a firmware readme. You just have to try it.

  • Creative, Is it worth it? (i.e. whats your experience with the Zen 16gb) and Firmware questi

After doing a sizable amount of research on the Creative Zen 6gb MP3 player, I was relati'vely comfortable with the product and decided to purchase it.
However, after browsing this forum for a few hours, I see quite a few things that trouble me about Creative in general:
"Real person" my (CENSORED) -horrible customer support
Creative Expects 3rd Quarter Loss, Sells HQ Building?
Message to Daniel_K -lack of product support/customer relations
and a countless number of other posts about hardware and software issues with the Zen
I really like the features built into the MP3 player (FM transmitter, voice recorder, Equalizer) and do not want to sell my soul to Ipod.
That being said, I wanted to see if there was anyone on this forum that actually liked their Zen and did not have issues with it.
I would greatly appreciate your positi've feedback as I hope that I will not have to spend countless more hours searching for and then researching a different MP3 player that fits my needs.
In addition, I was curious about the user interface on the Zen. I know that it uses ID3 tagging and that a folder directory cannot be used to view mp3s on the player (unless this has been added in a firmware update?, however I checked the site and did not see anything about this addition). How impeding is this ID3 tagging reliance if about 00 to 500 of my mp3s have incorrect tagging? as in, will I go crazy trying to retag everything because all I see if "Unknown" for all the data?
Yeah, that's about it for my long winded post...
    Thanks,
    Joe?

Just return from Mexico and found my Zen 4 GB player missing from a light finger baggage handler. I would not even consider, in a thousand years, of purchasing from the "fruit company" their overprice Ipod without a FM receiver. The Creative Zen rocks. Need I say more.

  • Headphones/earbuds and carrying options when listening to music?

How is everyone carrying their iPhone and listening to music? I see there is an earbuds option with a microphone but unlike the Nano there isn't a lanyard option. Are people putting it in their shirt pocket (what about you gals?) or clipping it on your belt?
With my Nano (and the touchwheel) carried around my neck lanyard I can easily change volume by touch which is very convenient. I assume with no such wheel I'll have to at least look at the iPhone so I'm trying to figure out the best strategy for carrying it while music playing and would like to know what others are doing.

    Hi,
Which phone model are you using? And when this happens, are you doing something special with the phone? Does the volume go up by itself again or do you need to press the volume up(+) button to increase it? Do you get any kind of message when you press the volume up(+) button after this behaviour?

  • Let's get an MP3 player headphone/earbud discussion going

I am shocked to see how little use this little slice of this great forum is. As we all know, the earbuds that typically accompany any stock MP3 player are usually sub-standard, at best. Often they are terrible. Occaisionly they are passable, and once in a blue moon they are great. It always amazes me that MP3 player companies, Creative included, don't realize that they could really push their players over the top by adding a good set of buds. In fact, Sony has just done this. One of their new MP3 players is being shipped with a higher end set of Sony earbuds that typically go for $70 all by themselves. CNET is raving about the player, particulary how it is one of the only players out there that sounds fantastic "out of the box". And now I'm starting to see discussions on the CNET MP3 player forums comparing that particular Sony to the new ZEN with lot's of people leaning to the Sony just because it does not require a new set of buds to really bring out the quality of the music.
Now we all know that a lot of people are clueless when it comes to this aspect. It amazes me the people who will spend $500 on a high-end MP3 player and then not bother to replace the crappy buds that come bundled with it (cough, cough, iPod, cough). If you fall into this category do yourself a favor and go out and try some quality buds or headphones for your MP3 player. You'll be quite astounded how much more you'll enjoy listening to your music. As with any audio device, you'll have to pay for that quality. But quality can be found in everyone's budget. CNET is a great place to start and learn. You'll be happy to know that Creative's Aurvana buds are highly rated in their price category and quite frankly, the next time Creative releases a new higer-end product, say the ZEN 32 GB due out in first quarter 2008 (or so I've read), they would be super smart to include a nice set of these buds with that player even if it means bumping the price a bit and eating some profit.
I recently bought my fifth Creative product, the 16 GB ZEN. It's a great player. Not perfect, but certainly a top contender in the high-cap flash-based MP3 player market. As always, the included buds were passable. So I embarked upon a search for the perfect set of headphones and/or buds in my price range.
I set my price range between $100 and $150. That's a ton of money for some, nothing for others. I was pleasantly surprised with what is out there. Here is what I found, what I tried, what I thought, what I kept, and what went back. I am somewhat limited in my testing by the fact that I pretty much just use Best Buy. While I really don't like the store, the one good thing they have is a 30-day money back return policy. So I can just keep trying headphones and returning them to try others until I find the ones I like.
The first thing I tried was pair of Bose full around ear (AE) TriPort headphones. CNET has called these the poor-man's QuietComfort 2's, a noise-canceling Bose product highly rated by CNET. The TriPorts are great phones, light weight, and great sounding. Best Buy price is$140. Great audio quality and they block out most regular outside noise. The downside, for me at least, is my ears tend to sweat after extended listening. I still have these and will keep them. My daughter liked them so much she's getting a pair for Christmas although she doesn't know it yet. These are better for your ears because they don't pipe music directly into the canal and are less likely to cause any damage to hearing.
The next thing I tried was a set of Bose on ear (OE) TriPorts. These are pretty much the same drivers as the AE's but they sit comfortably on the ear instead of around them. The upside is that they don't sweat as much. Downside is, if you're a woman (or a guy) who wears earrings they can be less comfortable because they press on the earrings. The audio quality is much same, ie: great, as the AE models but not quite as good. The sound isolation is also surprisingly good. I like the design of these phones much better too. They have a single cord design (the AE's have a dual cord) and the cord is modual. I love short cords as I just keep my player in a shirt pocket so a long cord is just a drag, pun intended. The OE models also come with a much nicer, hard case, the AE's just come with a cloth bag. The phones fold up smaller and fit into the case nicely for storage and transport. The real downside to these phones, the price: $180. While the cord design and case are nice touches they really don't (to me anyway) justify the extra $40. That said, I still have these phones too as I like them for work for the short cord. The jury is still out as to whether or not I'll keep them.
Next up I tried the Sure SE210 earbuds, actually ear canal phones. These are pricey at $150 but for Shure products that's actually just a step up from entry level! I thought it would be good to have a nice set of quality buds for those times when I don't want to walk around with headphones on. The Shure's are raved about on CNET. I was not impressed. The sound was just okay and I really don't like things sticking IN my ear canals for long periods of time. It just get's painful for me. The Shure's do come with the 'comfort pack' which has several different styles and sizes of tips to maximize comfort but I just couldn't see them getting enough use to justify the price. They went back.
Next up was the Bose TriPort earbuds. These got a mediocre review over at CNET but I thought since I'd tried the other two in the line I'd give these a go. They are $99 at BB. These are not ear canal phones and are not meant to into the ear and form a tight seal. They sounded very good and were very comfortable. But they just didn't feel stable. I move around at work a lot an they always felt like they were going to fall out and the quality and level of music would change with the movement. They went back.
Last up, the Shure SE110 earbuds. Again, these are ear canal phones meant to go into the ear canal and form a seal for maximum bass and sound. I bought these on a whim. They are $99 at BB. They pretty much sound just like the SE210's to me - I'm not sure what the difference was supposed to be. CNET gives these a decent review and recommends them in their price point range. I tried them at work and was going to take them right back. But I've been unable to get them back for a few days so I tried them again last night. I finally found a set of the 'comfort pack' tips that fit me best, the small rubber ones, and I can wear them for longer periods of time without as much discomfort. And when in the ear with a good seal they sound pretty good, much better than any stock earbud, but not as good as the Bose AE or OE phones.
So the jury is out on these ones. I'm thinking they'll go back. It seems you have to go up to the SE310's to get a really good bud from Shure but that's up around $200 to $250, a bit more than I'll spend for now at least. If I end up taking the SE110's AND the Bose OE TriPort's back than I'd have enough to try out a pair but our BB doesn't sell them so I'd have to find another local or online dealer with a nice return policy. Online sucks because of course you have to send them back and pay shipping. Much easier to just go to a counter!
If you've really got a ton of money, I hear the new Shure SE530's are nothing short of fantasic - or so says CNET. I'd love to try a set but at$450 to $500 a set that's not going happen any time soon. I might just go back to BB and try a bunch of lower end stuff in the $50 to $100 range and see if anything in that price point range blows my mind.
Anyhow, I thought his forum was sadly lacking and thought I'd at least give a good post to get it going. If any of you have done this type of testing, or just have a great set of buds or headphones you use, please share your opinion's here. Let's get this rock rolling down the hill!

    Hi methos1979,
This forum has only just been created, all the other forums have been on the board much longer, so we should hopefully see more posts appearing here.
While I appreciate and understand the intention of the thread, this is not a suitable place to discuss non-Creative products. This forum was intended for discussion of Creative headphones, headsets and earphones.

  • My Apple Headphones broke, and I haven't had them for a week!

Ugh, I am SO FUSTRATED with Apple Accessories!!!
One of my (brand new) Apple Earbuds has stopped working. I recently bought a new iPhone 5c and the headphones came with it.  I opened my headphones and (very carefully) plugged them in my headphone jack. They were broken the first time I plugged them in! The left earbud doesn't work! II have plugged other headphones into my phne and they work, and I have plugged the headphones in my computer but they do not work. So I know the problem is my headphones. I'm kind of angry that I never got to use them and I want a (free) replacemnt. Will Apple replace them?

I had the same problem with my 5s, although I was slightly more unfortunate in that the headphones were £150 pair of Atomic Floyd. I then plugged the supplied apple headphones in and they broke straight away resulting in the right earphone not working. Luckily Atomic Floyd are replacing the headphones for free under warranty and I’ve got an appointment at the apple store this weekend to discuss the issue with the phone.

  • WoW Wireless Headphones Mic and Driver issue

I know a lot of people have issues with the mic sounding muffled to others. One thing i noticed is that the default sample rate is 16000 Hz (Tape Recorder Quality). Is this my only option becuase I feel that is my issue. My destop mic is set at 48000 (DVD Quality). I cant believe there is not a way to change this. I have updated the firmware but dont feel that did much at all.
The other thing I wanted to mention is the driver date. I downloaded it on the website where it says released March 23 2010, yet when I go into the actual driver its date is December 9 2009. Is it really that old.

Are your headphones showing up as the default playback device? I have an X-FI Titanium and the headphones connected and my Titanium is usually my default for my speakers. In Windows 7, I usually go to control panel and sound, and there I choose the WoW as default and this solves my issue.
Windows usually chooses the first device listed in control panel until you choose another default.

  • Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage Wireless - Driver and Firmware update, now it's frozen?????????

Just recieved my headphones yesterday - plugged it in and charged it = works. I then decided to download the newest drivers and firmware and went straight to bed. This afternoon, suddenly no sound is detected, what so ever! The USB Power LED flashes slowly and a constant red glow is showing at my headphones.. When I try to re-pair it, the USB Power LED flashes rapidly as it should, but neither the Mic Mute button, nor the Connect Button on the headphones responds.. It feels like the headset is simply just frozen right after the new driver/firmware installation.
I've tried everything pretty much.. Went from Wireless to USB to see if that helped, but it didnt. Tried to remove / setback the drivers, still dosn't work. Headphones is just completely frozen with no buttons working and a constant red glowing light - can't be turned off or restarted!!!
    WHAT TO DO?!?
    Cheers,
    Alexander

My headphones just ran out of power during the day = it resetted itself. I then connected it again and re-paired it. Atm it's working perfectly fine again. I will now try to reinstall the Control Panel, not the driver though, hopefully it will work this time and wont make the headphones go into "non-responding-retarded-mode" once again :-)
Conclusion: For me it felt like it was either the Drivers or the Firmware update, maybe both, which made my headphones "crash", or atleast not respond to any command / buttons pushed. If anyone faces the same or similar problems as me, due to installation of drivers/firmware, let your headset run out of power (if you as me, don't know how to remove the battery manually) and just reconnect it :-) Should work then.

  • I've upgraded to OS 10.8.2 and my Bowers and Wilkins MM-1 Speakers were working fine until today, and now they won't play any sound at all, even though iTunes shows the audio is playing. I've tried both the headphone jack and the USB port. Please help!

    Michael,
Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &
    Best regards,

I have ipod touch 1st gen and it will no longer detect that i have headphones in the headphone jack and so i cannot turn up my volume. Is there any way it can be fixed?

    Have you tried:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price:

  • The sound on my iPhone isn't working I tried putting headphones in and it worked, but as soon as I take th out and the sound countinues playing the sound stops help please

The sound on my iPhone isn't working I don't understand why it was working fine an hour ago I haven't dropped it or anything simply just out it on silent... The music I was trying to listen to didn't want to make a sound when I turned it in , I put a pair of headphones in and and it worked as soon as I took it off it completely stopped the music was playing still I could see it in the top column that  the play button was on ... Then I made a call an the same thing happened I turned it on speaker and then I could hear them... The sound is completely off even tho i looked at the seettings and put the volume on high noting is sounding on its own not even when i tap the buttons... I took it off the silent before I tried this stuff I don't understand please help !!!

make sure that your head phones are not attached to the phone then use the volume buttons on the side, if when using them you see a pic of headphones on the screen, then you have some lint in the headphone jack, use some compressed air and blow it out.
If you dont see that then try to reset the phone, hold down the home and power buttons for 20 seconds or untill you see the silver apple.
If you are still having a problem restore the phone and set up as new to see if that clears it up.

  • Do I need to install  Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware

    Hiya,
I recently bought a new Macbook Pro,it is Mac OS X version 10.4.8, i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)?
I also tried to install MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2, however it says the computer doesn't need to install it. And I checked my Boot ROM Version is MBP22.00A5.B00. After the update it should be: MBP11.0055.B08 (MacBook Pro 15 inch). So I don't know what to do?
    please help!
    Thanks.
    Catherine

"Do I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel) and firmware"
You don't "need" to install anything. If you think you can benefit from the updates then go ahead.
"i am just wondering whether I need to install Mac OS X 10.4.8 Update (Intel)? "
If it came with 10.4.8 preinstalled, then you do not need to install it.
"So I don't know what to do?"
Nothing. If it says the update isn't needed, then it's already been applied at the factory.

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • Turned on fileVault AND firmware password, can't boot into verbose mode?

Just out of curiousity, I turned on fileVault AND firmware password on my retina macbook pro,
and when I boot up holding command-v, instead of getting the firmware password screen, I get the filevault password screen.
Is this normal and expected behaviour?

The firmware password disables that shortcut; verbose mode can still be used by using the Terminal to change the NVRAM boot arguments, which requires an administrator password.

  • New notebook only has headphone out and mic in -- Will any Creative speakers work?

Hello all: My new notebook only has a headphone out and mic in, and no audio out as you see on desktop PCs. I prefer not to use my USBs as I have other devices using them. Are there any Creative speakers which can use the headphone output and convert it to line level? This is a frustrating problem...the product specs all assume that you have a line level output 1/8 stereo jack. I don't. How can I find out which Creative products (if any) will work? I have a very typical, Compaq V6000 notebook running XP. I'm looking to spend under $80 and would prefer a 2 speaker or 2 pc w/ subwoofer configuration. I prefer to know that I can connect my new speakers rather than order blindly. Thx yall.
Message Edited by brg500 on 07-17-2007 07:25 PM

You can perfectly connect your 2.0 or 2.1 speakers to the headphones out, because it's like it was a line out, with the only difference that you can modify the out volume. There's no problem at all.
