HELP! I cannot figure this out, differences between 9i and 10g installation

This is for class, and my instructor who obviously has a bad sense of humor has provided me with the following "good" link to get these answers:
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/10g/nav/portal_1.htm
Within the comparison document you create, include key differences such as, but not limited to:
Any pre-configuration of the Operating System.
Memory configuration consideration (both physical and logical).
Naming conventions of the Global Database or System Identifier (SID).
Online input screens within the Oracle Installer.
Processes that run during the installation (i.e. port assignments, directories defined, etc.).
Password configurations or assignments.
Web Services created (is there one?).
Any post-configuration of the Operating Ssystem.

The current Oracle installation docs can be found at:
http://docs.oracle.com.
Use Oracle's docs and if you instructor has any questions tell him or her to contact me at the University of Washington.
I spent a lot of time on the Stanford campus ... lots of great resources ... but Oracle docs should be found at ...oracle.com.

  • Difference between forms6i and 10g

Is there a big Difference between forms6i and 10g? Can someone with 6i experience use forms 10g without problems?
    Thanks

In our company Forms applications are still developed in 6i C/S, but they run without modifications, just recompilation, on
    - 6i C/S (obviously :-))
    - 6i Forms server
    - 9i Forms services 9.0.2
    - 10g Forms services 9.0.4
    - 10g Forms services 10.1.2
We have customers with all these architectures on Linux and Windows, and they have DBs from 7.3.4 to 10g.

  • Coldfusion unexplainable duplicate issues, cannot figure this out!

So I've been fighting this for days.  I dont have the slightest idea where I can go from here.  I have your standard coldfusion insert queries set up to insert new data into the database.  Something along the lines of:
Select * from table where tableuniqueID = Form.UniqueID
Cfif databasecheck.recordcount EQ 0, then insert new row with form.uniqueID as the uniqueID.  Well recently, its been throwing the generic Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK__OLMS_Dat__9C04DA075F0A3F61'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.table'.
I dont understand that in the slightest, the only way it inserts is if the query right above it is defined and equal to 0 recordcount.
I did some tooling around, and found someone suggesting to insert into my SQL "IF NOT EXISTS" to have SQL do the actual check to see if data exists.  Well we put that in place, and just recently, ANOTHER duplicate happened, same error, cannot insert duplicate showing the new SQL structure.
This is beyond me.  I have two statements checking to see if it exists and, yet, Coldfusion still tries to execute a database insert.  What is going on??  Any ideas?  You would figure this would be the basics.

Hello.  I know it's been awhile but did you figure this out?  I have a very similar thing happening. Something along the lines of
    INSERT INTO WorkSheet (CODE_KEY)
    SELECT TOP (1) EI.CODE_KEY
FROM EmpInfo AS EI  LEFT OUTER JOIN
    WorkSheet AS WS ON WS.CODE_KEY = EI.CODE_KEY
    WHERE (EI.CODE_KEY = 'param1') AND (WS.CODE_KEY IS NULL)
where the field "CODE_KEY" is a the primary key in SQL Server 2008.  This is similar to what you're doing except that the check for an existing value happens as part of the insert query.  Just like you every once in awhile I get the "[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint" error. I'd say I get one a week.
The only hint I have is that there is an insert that succeeds.  This insert happens at the same time as the one that fails. That seems that the code is executing twice at the exact same time which seems impossible. In fact it seems to me that a second query would have to happen so fast that the join shows no value (otherwise I'd get records updated = 0 rather than the error) but then the first (successful) record is created prior to the 2nd one being inserted.

  • Difference between pi and 10g?????

    hello expert,
as there is a difference between 9i and 10 g is
grid . G stand for grid.
how to implement grid in 10 g.
    thanks
    yash

How to implement grid depends on your scale. If you have one or two databases, you can function fine with dbconsole and whatever your OS provides. If you have 10,000 databases, you probably need grid. If you have 10 databases, you probably need grid, though that might be debatable depending on what already exists.
pi is 3.141592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286 208998628034825342117067982148086513282306647093844609550582231725359408128481 Approximately. That is quite different than 10g, though I'm uncertain how to quantify that.

  • Differences between 8 and 10g

Can anyone help, i am trying to find documentation on the differences between sql 8.0.6 and 10, to find the functions that have been added/removed etc.,but cannot find one anywhere?

http://tahiti.oracle.com has all of Oracle's documentation online. There should be new features guides for 8i, 9i, and 10g that will have this sort of information. So far as I'm aware, Oracle has only added new SQL functions.

  • Java - difference between "critical" and "software installer

I would like to push out the latest java updates to out workstations via ZCM patch management, however I am confused be the difference between the update packages available. The machines are windows 7 with ZCM v11.2.0 and already have a (slightly older) JRE installed on them. The ZPM java package labeled as impact type "critical" states the following in the notes:
"All web browsers are required to be shut down in order for Java JRE to be updated successfully"
The ZPM package labeled as impact type "software installer" has nearly identical installation notes, save for no web browser must be not running disclaimer like above.
Since 95% of our user base in the school district is most likely going to be using a web browser at any given time, I would give the success probability of the "critical" option as very low. Is it OK to use the "software installer" impact package? Is it truly not dependent on browsers being closed, or was that an oversight in the notes? What method do any of you use for reliable java updates?

I stopped using ZPM for Java and Flash installs. I actually right an AutoIT script that I deploy out to my laptops via bundle. It closes the browsers, uninstalls older versions of Java, and then installs the latest version I provide. What I found on some of our Java (browsers) based apps, specifically the gradebook and attendance programs, the ZPM deployment would install the latest with the older versions as well. This caused masive issues with after three updates those programs stop working.
I still have some deployment issues where a teacher will have java based failures or a failure to install the latest version correctly. But compaired to what was done before I have cut my failures in half if not more.
Nice thing is I can still view the Patch deployment in Patch Management as this deployment method is in process.

  • Differences  between 9i  and 10g

    Hi
Where can I to find differences 9i and 10g
    Where 10g is best than 9i ?
    Thanks

    http://tahiti.oracle.com has all the documentation
online. Each version of Oracle has a New Features
Guide that is as good a place as any to start. Which
guide(s) in particular will depend on which releases
    of 9i and 10g we're talking about.

  • Cannot Connect , Cannot figure this out Please help

I have a Mac Book Pro 15 inch purchased in January 09. I have firewall turned on and added iChat as essential service. I can text chat but cannot get the video to work. I live on Maui. I have DSL. I did the speed test which came back as 3.1MB download and 376 upload. (ouch). I have changed the quicktime streaming speed to 1.5. I have changed the iChat bandwidth to 500 (more than my upload). I receive a connection error anytime I send or receive a video chat. Is the problem with the upload speed?

    Aloha Ralph,
    Wireless connection to DSL modem.
I have not nor know how to open the ports that iChat needs to route. (This may be the issue)

  • Cannot figure this out

    good evening
can anyone out there tell me why, when i am in another app, say Imovie, and i want to import from iphoto6, there are only certain albums listed?
how do you view all your albums to import from iphoto? all i see are some albums, and roll numbers, after i click on a year.
this has been making me nuts for awhile now, and i cannot find anything listed as to how to properly do this.
    thanks for any help

What can't you figure out ? If you've rented a film on your iPad then it should have downloaded into its Videos app, and you should be able to play it from there - is the film in the Videos app ?

  • TS1702 Hi my Daughter and I got new iPad 4th generation for Christmas, we are unable to connect to FaceTime, it keeps saying we r not available. Can you please help me to figure this out ?

Hi can someone please help ? My Daughter and I got new iPads for Christmas. 4th generation. We r unable to use FaceTime it is saying we are unavailable for FaceTime and it hangs up. Could someone please explain how to resolve this mater....thank you !

That would be the wireless number assigned by AT&T when the purchaser of the iPhone signed up as a customer with AT&T. If neither you nor your uncle ever activated the iPhone with AT&T, click the "non customer" button.
Note that jailbreaking often renders it impossible to get an iPhone officially unlocked, so don't be surprised if it fails. If it does, then you may have to buy a new iPhone, this time one that is officially unlocked.

  • I Cannot Figure this out!  How Do I Lock a Track In Adobe Premiere Pro?

    Hi everyone!
I'm from the Final Cut Pro world, getting acclimated to Adobe Premiere Pro and am wondering how do I lock a track on the timeline?  The audio and video are synced which is what I want, it's just one thing I want to change within the audio.  However, when I select and delete this one portion of the audio, it deletes the video as well.  This seems over complicated to perform.  Any help is much appreciated.  Thanks!

    Here you go.

  • Need help trying to figure this out!!!! Angle gradient???

    Hi,
I've been working in a project where i'm not sure if the terminology is correct. But as far as my research goes
it is refer as an angle gradient similar to the one in Photoshop. See image for idea:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/432656
I would like to use the same technique and create something for complex like this:
I already have made the path and but gradient doesn't seem to go around the paths.
Please help!!!!!!!!! Can someone provide me with a step by a step in how to create
    a path like this?
I'm running CS4 Ai, Ps. Anything will help.
    Thanks!!!

This thread is 3.5 years old but here is a solution to make angle gradients in Illustrator CS6 and CC, which now have the capability to apply gradients on strokes.
    1. Make a circle and give it a stroke equal to half its size and align stroke to center.
    Example: 100px circle with  a 50px stroke.
    2. Apply a linear gradient that has the same color on the starting and ending stops (if you want a seamless gradient) and apply gradient along stroke.
    3. Apply Path > Effect > Offset Path half the amount of the stroke size and make it a negative value  so the path offsets inward.
    4. Done!

  • Help needed to figure this out....

    Hello,
I have a small program ( almost a little complex) and it flows like this.
    a frame
    frame.setMenuBar(new MenuStubs());
    c = frame.contentPane()
    JPanel
then there is a method which reads a file content and creates a list of labels and then adds those labels to the panel
    panel.add(getListOflabels());
    c.add(JPanel);
in the above scenarion there are menuItems
    add,delete and clear,
add allows one entry to be written to file
delete deltes one records from file at a time
clear empties any data written to file.
my problem lies when I add or delete a record and ask the panel and frame to repaint...they don't,this how I am trying to do that.
read file put data in memory,
from there create a list of labels
add list of labels to JPanel
    when add a new record,
update the list of items in memory( an ArrayList object)
    delete all labels,
recreate all labels including the one is added.
I am successfull to the point tthat it deletes all the labesl, but do not repain itself..until unless I click on the edges of the window or resize it....why............
    please guide

    Hi,
Just call revalidate method to allow the JPanel to layout its' children after you have added all the new labels.
    Regards,
    Manfred.
