Help with linking navigation menu button directly to pdf on server.

I am trying to make the "specials" part of nav menu link to pdf on server. Please help

You need to have your menu set to Manual in the menu properties.
Then select a pdf file that you will be linking to and add it to the assets.
Then select the menu item that you want linking to the PDF and select the PDF from the Hyperlinks list.

• I need help with the navigation menu please?

I have been working my way through your six part printed instructions and I am styling the header and navigation menu.  The bullet points disappeared which was correct and the tabs moved to the right, as they should, but one tab sits underneath another tab and all tabs are covered up by my main heading.  This is dreamweaver CS6.
It looks a bit of a mess!

I have moved this to the main Dreamweaver forum, as the other forum is intended to deal with the Getting Started video tutorial.
The best way to get help with layout problems is to upload the files to a website and post the URL in the forum. Someone can then look at the code, and identify the problem. Judging from your description, it sounds as though the Document window is narrow, which would result in the final menu tab dropping down to the next row. Try turning on Live view or previewing the page in a browser. Design view gives only an approximate idea of the final layout. Live view renders the page as it should look in a browser.

• Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome

Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome. Works in IE. This is my first time trying to post a question - so please be kind. I am also not good with code and am finding css a real challenge after learning to design based on tables. I'm using CS5.
The "test" page with the slide show is: http://www.reardanwa.com/index-slides.html   The same page without the slide show is http://www.reardanwa.com/
I realize the images are not ideally sized - I'll fix those once I get the pages to function.  Maybe I need a different slide show? I would prefer a widget that I can modify to required size & postition. Again - I'm not good at building with code from scratch.
The problem is the naviagation links that are directly next to the slide show do not work in Firefox of Chrome. They do work in IE.
I've read about using jQuery.noConflict(); code but can't figure out the correct way to use it in my case or whether that's even part of the solution. I know my code is not well organized as I have cobbled together from various sources in an attempt to format the page the way the client wants it. Also, FYI, I will eventually try to make the page work in Surreal CMS.
I've spent sevaral days over the last several weeks trying to solve sth slide show/navigation conflict - so any specific light you can shed will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

If you DO want the slideshow overlaping the navigation try the below css:
.sidebar1 {

.box {

• How can I get Navigation Menu Button to remain in down state after clicked?

Hi there,
I'm messing about with a Navigation Menu and would like to click on the button and once clicked, the button remains in its down state.  I can't seem to find a way of doing this?  Any pointers?
Cheers

We would need to see your live page and code to offer more meaningful answers.  But I wonder if what you really want is a "persistent page indicator" on your nav menu?

• Help with linking buttons to Scenes

Hey,
Rookie to Flash and AS3. Just needed some help with my buttons. Im making a flash program about pancakes (random I know). I have a "Mainmenu" scene and then a "Recipe" scene. I have a button on my mainmenu which takes me to the recipe page when I click it, the code behind the button is
"stop();btn_recipe.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndStop(1, "Recipe");
Then when I arrive at my recipe page I have a button which will take me back to my MainMenu, the code behind that button is:
"stop();btn_home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouse5DownHandler);function mouse5DownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
gotoAndPlay(1, "MainMenu");
So I run my program and the first button works and takes me to recipe page but the button to get to the main menu does nothing, click it and no response or anything
Please help

First, hopefully having all your code mushed onto the same line is a copy/paste error, otherwise it should look like...
stop();
btn_recipe.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownHandler);
function mouseDownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
         gotoAndStop(1, "Recipe");
If the intention is to click the buttons to make them work, then you should use CLICK instead of MOUSE_DOWN.  MOUSE_DOWN can be a persistent state whereas CLICK involves releasing it afterwards.
As for the code to get you back home, where is it located on the timeline?  Are you getting any error messages when you try to use it?
One thing you should learn to use is the trace() function.  It is useful for troubleshooting.  You can use it now to see if your second button is talking to the function at all...
stop();
btn_home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, mouse5DownHandler);
function mouse5DownHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
         trace("the button works okay");
         gotoAndPlay(1, "MainMenu");
If you don't get that message in the output panel, you'll know the button is not properly coded to work.
Most folks here will recommend you get away from using scenes in a design that includes navigation--they have a history of being problematic.  Instead of using scenes, divide the one main timeline up into sections or use movieclips for the sections and manage their visibility... or do a bit of both.

• DON'T HAVE A HELP TAB IN MY MENU BUTTON. CANT EVEN COPY A URL IN MY ADDRESS BAR OR REFRESH IT ?

how on earth can you help people when all you do is direct them to another page to click on something that doesn't help. this new version is awful . i cannot even put a url address in my address bar, nor can i refresh the address bar as it won't highlight at all. i keep going to all sorts of help pages and they are no help at all. i have used firefox for years and never had so much trouble with anything. the worse thing is your support and not being able to talk to any about anything. as it is i have to go all over just to find maybe an answer to this.i am using a background theme that i used before the new updated version and had no problems with it. if your themes are not compatible then why have them ??? the address bar problem is not present if i get rid of the theme and use the plain boring theme that you have . all i want to know is why this issue is happening with the theme i am using. and if possible it would be nice to get an answer in my email so i don't have to click on a dozen help pages trying to find it . thank you ..
edit by a moderator: if you want to be able to discuss the issue with someone, don't do it in a shouting format (all uppercase), as this is considered rude on the internet - therefore i have converted your text into normal characters. in addition i have removed your address from public display since you will be notified per mail once somebody replies to the thread anyway. What is your support question? This? <br />CANT EVEN COPY A URL IN MY ADDRESS BAR OR REFRESH IT ?
A number of other users have mentioned a similar problem. <br />
Chances are that you have an add-on installed that isn't completely compatible with Firefox 29. You need to figure out the culprit and disable it until an update for that add-on is available.
If so, Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
*In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
*In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".<br>

Did you upload your CSS and javascript files to the server?  We would need to see a link to your live page on server to give more meaningful feedback.

Please post links directly to the page having an issue. I saw
no tabs on the home page, but I noticed that there is a link on the
bottom of the page to this page that has a Spry tab on it:
http://www.so-nouveau.com/test%208.html

That page refers to a Spry JavaScript file and a Spry CSS
file, which should be at the following locations but are not
present:
http://www.so-nouveau.com/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js
http://www.so-nouveau.com/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.css
Make sure you upload the SpryAssests folder and see where
you're at after that.

• Searching for Flash Photo Gallery with numbered navigation menu.

I'm looking for a photo gallery with a numbered navigation
menu. I've seen this gallery on several flash web pages. Is this
type of photo gallery a template that comes with flash? Has anyone
come across a tutorial for a photo gallery similar to the link
below.
http://www.rockcreeksm.com/index.php/work/portfolio/

i made this one:

• Help with a Spry Menu Bar

I'm having trouble with a Spry Menu Bar not displaying
correctly in Internet Explorer, while it displays fine in every
other browser I have available. I've done some searching on these
boards, but the queries I've found with the same type of problem
each has a knowledgeable person editing the code for the
poster...and I can't seem to make heads or tails of it.
So, below is my link. What you'll see if viewed in Explorer
is that the "Clinics" listing and the "Services & Specialties"
listing are each on the same horizontal line, rather than vertical
like the rest of the menu. If anyone can help me in correcting this
problem, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
You might try removing all of the <div> tags you
inserted in the menu.
This can happen if you select text in design view and use the
"align" icons
in the properties window instead of using CSS to align
things.
For example:
<li>
<div align="left"><<****REMOVE THIS
<a href="clinics.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">Clinics</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="clinic.html">Chambers
Clinic</a></li>
<li><a href="clinic7.html">Scenic 7
Clinic</a></li>
</ul>
</div><<*** REMOVE THIS
</li>
So it looks like this:
<li><a href="clinics.html"
class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">Clinics</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="clinic.html">Chambers
Clinic</a></li>
<li><a href="clinic7.html">Scenic 7
Clinic</a></li>
</ul>
</li>
Repeat for all the other <div align="left"> and
</div> tags in the menu.
Take care,
Tim

• Need Help making a navigation menu for a website

Alright so I've been having some problems getting this to work correctly. I am making a navigation menu for a website and I'm trying to get when I hover over the main header a drop down appears animated of course below it. I also want when you highlight a specific text line for it to highlight blue along with a rectangle behind it to change to a lighter shade of red.
Some of the problems  I have been running into is play and stop commands on mouseover and them not stopping when they should and getting the text to change color.
Thanks for the help.
Here are some screen grabs of what I am doing

http://imgur.com/W2bZuF3
http://imgur.com/2GI3y71

Your page's code is still a bit of a wreck.  Do you ever look at it?
<html>
<style type="text/css">#p7MBM_1 {
      width: 951px;
You need a doctype first - I recommend HTML4.01 Transitional.  Open this (and other pages) in DW and use FILE | Convert > HTML 4.01 Transitional, then save.  But wait until you do the other changes recommended below before doing this.
Add a <head> tag below the <html> tag.
Add a <title> tag below the <head> tag.
Add this below the <title> tag - <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
Add </head> below this -
<style type="text/css">
<!--
.style10 {font-family: "Goudy Old Style"}
-->
</style>
You may want to change that font-family style to "Goudy Old Style, Geneva, Times, 'Times New Roman', serif", since Goudy is not web safe.
Move <body> below that </head> you just added.
That will clean your code up a bit.  Let's look at the page again when you have done these.

• Need help with Link passed from XML

This is to create a flash driven navigation menu. What I have
is a coldfusion page that serves a simple XML formatted page. There
are 3 XML components, linkLabel, linkURL and linkType. The label
just passes text, the type is just a number 0-9 that is used to
determine the style of the button. The linkURL that is passed from
coldfusion comes across encoded for XML, so what I end up with is
url's that replace "&" with ";amp;".
So my question is this, is there an easy way in the
actionscript to replace the ";amp;" with "&"? Other than that
little problem, the rest of the script runs just fine, I just can't
seem to find the syntax I'm looking for to replace items in a
string. I saw the code for replacesel() but this doesn't seem to do
it, unless i'm writing it wrong.

Just in case you want something similar in future:
string = string.split("&amp;").join("&");
is an easy way to replace something in a string (here
'&amp;' gets replaced with '&').
greets,
blemmo

• Help with my moving menu bar in my webpage

Hello,
First of all I am completley new to webdesign and have no clue what I am doing so you will probably see me posting alot in the upcomming weeks. Im trying to create a wepbage for our youthministry at church. The webpage is www.ccifuel.com. My first question is about the navigation menu on it. It seems to move from one place to another when the web browser expands and I would like it to stay in a fixed position over the image. How do I do that? My last question is that im trying to creat a form to collect email addresses to start a newsletter in the box labeled "Join our mailing list!" but when I try to enter a spry validation text field it says, "You cannot insert this widget into an editable region..." and so on. Any idea how to make that area locked so i can insert a form there or would there be a better way to do this? thanks for all the help in advance!

In that case, you really should  work your way through some tutorials first.  These aren't hard and they'll give you basic skills to work with    X/HTML & CSS.

Why  do APDivs move?

Your best course of action is to build your HTML content so that it flows naturally from top of page to bottom.  Then use CSS default positioning (which is no positioning at all) along with floats, margins and padding to align  elements on  page.
