Helpdesk hours

Today my Broadband went off for about 20 minutes just after midnight.
This interupted my on-line access and also prevented access to the BT Vision On Demand programs
Upon calling 0800 111 4567 I was suprised to be told the Helpdesk is now closed and only available from 8am to midnight.
The BT com Contact me website says:

Clearly I now have service restored but the timing of the interuption and the absence of a mechanism to report the problem was inconvienient.

Hi Zulu17,
Thanks for the posts.
Not sure what happened here as the BT broadband technical helpdesk should be open 24/7.

  • Bt helpdesk is anything but

I'm trying to get a sensible answer out of BTs level 1 and level 2 helpdesk but I'm failing miserably. Maybe someone on this forum knows more about how these things work and can explain it to me.
I've had an ongiing problem with my phone/broadband since the 18/Nov (actually I've had intermittent speed issues with my broadband since I moved into my house in January but that's another story and a line profile reset usually gets me back up and working for a few months at least).
I reported a fault on my noisy line 18/Nov and my broadband was practically inactive at 0.05mbit. BT eventually decided it was my fault and dispatched an engineer to my house to fix the problem and if it was my fault they'd charge me 129.99. The engineer arrived and before I had a chance to make him a cup of tea he'd jumped back in his van and drove off to the cabinet on the other side of the village. Twenty minutes later he was back saying the connections had corroded in the cabinet and everything was now working. He decided to replace my master socket as it was old (not because it was faulty). I was surprised when I found on my notes later that the cause of the line fault was in the master socket and that was the reason it was replaced! Not the first time the "solution" has been noted wrongly. A few months ago the "cause" was the wrong wireless channel on my router even though I'd told the helpdesk I'd checked everything via ethernet and via the master test socket. The actual solution was a line profile reset.
Anyway, things were really good for a week. My voice calls had the clearest line ever (before there was a slight echo on the line) and my broadband was the fastest it had ever been (previously it bested at 1.8mbit, now it was consistently at 2.3mbit). Then my noisy line came back and my broadband dropped to 0.01-0.05mbit again. I logged another fault on the 5/Dec. An engineer was dispatched to the cabinet at the end of my village and my line was back to normal last tuesday morning (broadband still 0.01-0.05mbit). I contacted the helpdesk to get them to do a line profile reset which has always fixed my slow broadband within the hour but the person I spoke to was highly resistent to do anything other than ask me questions from her script "do you have a wired or wireless connection" etc etc After 90 minutes I gave up and phoned later and got through to Level 2 support who did some tests and reckoned a (SNR) line reset was in order but it was now too late to do one (have to get them in before 8p) and they would schedule it for the following day (Wed).
On Wednesday a lady from the level 2 support phoned me and told me she'd initiated a line reset and that my line speed would be 4. something mbit within an hour then settling down over the next 44 hours as it stabilised. Sounded good but yesterday my broadband was still 0.01-0.05mbit and my IP profile was still 0.14. Last night I called L2 support again and I was told I must have "misunderstood" the person I spoke to the day before as it would take 72 hours for my speed to increase. I'm not sure exactly what it was she said that I could have misunderstood and I did ask the person I spoke to but he didn't seem to have an answer for that and as the woman I spoke to was off-shift we couldn't get her on the line to confirm or deny what she had said). I asked about the reset and he told me it was a RAMBO reset that had been performed.
This morning I contacted support to confirm what had been reset and when and eventually after much prompting I was told a RAMBO reset had been done on the tuesday immediatley after the engineer cleared the line fault and an SNR reset was done on Wed when the helpdesk phoned and told me my speed would be up within the hour. I got cut off the chat before I could finish talking to the helpdesk. I called back and after a protracted chat he told me he'd contacted the L2 helpdesk and they'd never heard of a RAMBO reset!
Having googled the term I've found out that it's BTs ADSL management software so I would have expected them to know that! Doesn't inspire confidence when a level 2 helpdesk is unaware of a companies products!
So my question for the forum is; given that I've been given so much inconsistent information, much of it from the level 2 network helpdesk where they should know better. Can anyone give me an explanation of the different resets that BT can apply to my line and how long before they take any effect. So far I have about an hour, 44 hours, up to 72 hours, can take up to ten days to choose from.
From previous experience in the last 10 months when I've probably had my line profile reset serveral times, I've noticed a pretty good speed increase within 1-2 hours of BT saying it had been done. This time my boradband test shows download speed 0.01-0.09mbit, acceptable range 0.05-0.25mbit. DSL connection rate 4.29mbit(down) and 0.45mbit(up) and IP Profile 0.14mbit.
Anyone got any useful information for me before I go into battle with the level 2 support tonight?

  • SQL report to get average amount of time for helpdesk closures Pin

Hi, I've been asked to write a report which lists the average time it takes for a helpdesk job to be closed. There isn't a closed date as such, the table column is simply an audit date/time which can be for various tasks.
I need to use this column along with another which is an ID of the action. For example:
    User     TaskID   Task    AuditDatetime
    Bob        2    Opens job   1/8/2014 11:14:29
    Bob        5    Closes job  2/8/2014 10:12:26
    Joe        2    Opens job   2/8/2014 11:01:45
    Bob        5    Closes job  3/8/2014 11:44:22
My SQL is very rusty, I'm sure the report is technically possible but I can't for the life of me figure out what the SQL is.
I'm aware of the SQL AVG function and also know I may need to GROUP BY the user. I'm thinking some kind of CASE statement perhaps but again I can't think of the SQL to achieve this...
    Can anybody please help?

DECLARE @helpDesk TABLE (JobID INT, userName varchar(10), TaskID INT, Task VARCHAR(20), AuditDatetime DATETIME)
INSERT INTO @helpDesk (JobID, userName, TaskID, Task, AuditDatetime)
    VALUES
    (17, 'Bob', 2, 'Opens job', '8/1/2014 11:14:29'),
    (17, 'Bob', 5, 'Closes job', '8/2/2014 10:12:26'),
    (22, 'Joe', 2, 'Opens job', '8/2/2014 11:01:45'),
    (22, 'Bob', 5, 'Closes job', '8/3/2014 11:44:22'),
    (25, 'Bob', 1, 'Opens job', '8/4/2014 11:40:22'),
    (25, 'Joe', 3, 'Assigned job', '8/5/2014 11:47:22'),
    (25, 'Joe', 5, 'Closes job', '8/5/2014 11:49:22')
    SELECT *, DATEDIFF(minute,h2.AuditDatetime,h.AuditDatetime)/60.0 AS hours
    FROM @helpDesk h
    INNER JOIN @helpDesk h2
    ON h.jobID = h2.jobID
    AND h2.task = 'opens job '
    WHERE h.task = 'Closes Job'
As far as open Jobs go, you could flip it around, like this:
DECLARE @helpDesk TABLE (JobID INT, userName varchar(10), TaskID INT, Task VARCHAR(20), AuditDatetime DATETIME)
INSERT INTO @helpDesk (JobID, userName, TaskID, Task, AuditDatetime)
    VALUES
    (17, 'Bob', 2, 'Opens job', '8/1/2014 11:14:29'),
    (17, 'Bob', 5, 'Closes job', '8/2/2014 10:12:26'),
    (22, 'Joe', 2, 'Opens job', '8/2/2014 11:01:45'),
    (22, 'Bob', 5, 'Closes job', '8/3/2014 11:44:22'),
    (25, 'Bob', 1, 'Opens job', '8/4/2014 11:40:22'),
    (25, 'Joe', 3, 'Assigned job', '8/5/2014 11:47:22'),
    (25, 'Joe', 5, 'Closes job', '8/5/2014 11:49:22'),
    (26, 'Joe', 5, 'Opens job', '8/5/2014 11:49:22')
    SELECT *, DATEDIFF(minute,h.AuditDatetime,COALESCE(h2.AuditDatetime,GETDATE()))/60.0 AS hours
    FROM @helpDesk h
    LEFT OUTER JOIN @helpDesk h2
    ON h.jobID = h2.jobID
    AND h2.task = 'Closes job '
    WHERE h.task = 'Opens Job'
and coalesce the current date in for a close date.

  • Why is the helpdesk of Adobe unreachable?

    Hi there,
I bought myself a brand-new Apple Mac Book Pro yesterday, the newest... Superhappy
....until I started downloading programs from CC.
Trying for hours, It did not not work.
I tried to contact Adobe, but, what a frustrating experience was that.
I was on the Phone for over 30 minutes, listening to elevator music, not having any idea of when I would be helped.
After 32 minutes I gave up.
    Trying the chat: same result.
So good as your pragramms are, so bad is your customer service.
Please Adobe, improve your helpdesk, it realy doesn't suit the brand.
    greetings Barbara

    Oooooh Sorry Bob,
    That’s a mistake.
    Thanx for your mail
    I do feel better indeed
    Have a good day,

  • Help desk opening hours

I've just tried to get to the BB help desk (10:45 pm) and it's closed.  I'm sure I have used it later than this in the past.  What hours do they keep?  Have they changed?  Have I been informed? Where would I expect to find this information (contacting a forum is a last resort)?  Thanks for any info.

    Hi f2cf1g
I am sorry that you couldn't get through.  The helpdesk on 0800 111 4567 is open 24/7.
If you are really stuck you can post a message up on the forums and I am sure someone will give you a hand.

  • Infinity Week One... 1Mbps... Helpdesk Woes!

    Hi All
7 days in to my Infinity experience hasn't been great. Some of my latest tests on the http://www.speedtester.bt.com/beta/ site have been consistently low and on several occasions down to 1Mbps. I have even had tests come back at 0.86Mbps!
I am in contact with the BT Helpdesk but finding things painful.
After several modem resets, switch offs and reset with paper clip incidents I am left with 3 different views from the helpdesk team:
We'll replace the router tomorrow - I'll call you back (no call)
It's a network problem and engineer will call you back in 48 hours
You're still in your 10 day period and you need to wait - speed can be low... Really - 1Mbps!
Really struggling with getting my problem investigated properly. As a customer I am getting too many different views and having to repeat the conversations with the team.
My IP Profile on the FTTC test shows 38Mbps. I can appreciate speed will vary depends on network load but my connection stutters on things like YouTube. I am now also connecting via Ethernet cable to avoid any confusion on WiFi and have tried two different laptops.
speedtest.net reports a mix of 1Mbps through to 30Mbps but its varies all the time - vast majority on the below 6Mpbs. Also the speedtest.net graph shows peaks and troughs (like /\/\/\/\/\/) as if the connection has some interruptions.
I really want to keep by Infinity service but just feel I am going round in circles.
I have worked in a technical IT role for 10 years so not a standard home user.
How can I get through to someone in BT who can actually help me!?!

A couple of things I would try in preperation for a visit.
Are you able to try a FTTC Diagnostic speedtest wireless? You'll have to tick the wired box.
If so and your over wireless n with PC/Laptop next to/near the router it would be interesting to see if you've still getting slow speeds.
By going over wireless your effectively ruling out the HH3 ethernet ports .
Also are you able to try another laptop/netbook?..... just in case.... Good just noticed you have
    Just some other ideas http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Infinity-Speeds-amp-NetProtect-Firewall/td-p/338121
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/varying-speedtest-results/td-p/409695
Edit I expect Customer Support asked you to do Factory Reset(Paper Clip prod) on the HH3 in the hope it would "fix the Ethernet ports".... But I'm always curious and would still try a wireless test if you can.
One other thing is your Openreach Modem mounted vertically?
The cooling vents work better that way although the new (vers 3b or above) are more heat tolerant apparently.
Some were placed flat with the HH3 sitting on top which was a bit too warm for things.... but that was in the early days.

  • BT Tech Helpdesk corrupted registry

At the beginning of June 2010 I lost my wireless connection and phone Tech helpdesk. Advisor proceeded to do a remote access assistance to sort the issue. He then DELETED my Network Adapter Driver without my permission and in doing do corrupted the registry in my laptop. When put through to complaints managerhe tried to reinstall it, the laptop kept saying access denied. He then said that he ws elevating my issue to another helpdesk and gave me a number to phone. When I phone this I found top my horror that he had given me the number for paying to get help! I don't thnk so! We pay enough with BT for access to internet. I then phoned back Tech Helpdesk and the advisor I spoke to tried the same procedure to instal the Driver unsuccessfully. He said that I should never have been given the paid helpdesk number.
I was then put through to complaints manager who said that he would have to look at the remote access files to find out what happened. He said that I could always use my ethernet cable to access internet. Bit difficult when I have a 3 year old and 1 year old twin girls going about the living room and my phone line box is at the other side of the room.
I was called back by the manager who informed me that the advisor was indeed to blame as he didn't seek consent from me to delete the driver. He was unable to do anything further as it was my laptop that was now the issue.
I had to call my laptop manufacturer tech helpdesk who then informed me that because my laptop was 3 years old I would have to phone a Premium Rate telephone number at 60p a minute for help. I called back BT who said I would be reimbursed for this. I was given a customer complaint reference number to quote when my laptop was sorted.
I phoned the premium rate number and informed them what had happened at the BT helpdesk. They asked why the driver had been deleted and all I could reply was I don't know. They said that because the registry had been corrupted in the process I would have to do a complete reinstall of Windows Vista.
Therefore I had to backup 120Gb worth of files from my laptop. Reinstall Windows Vista to factory settings. Then sit while I had to do 3 years worth of Windows updates. The put back on 120Gb worth of files. This all took time.
No one at BT, it seems, is prepared to take ownership of this complaint.
I then phoned back BT Tech helpdesk and this is where the fun really begins.
The first person I spoke to said there was nothing in the notes regarding reimbursement. He then said I would get a callback from the department, within 10 minutes, dealing with this. I waited 40 minutes with no callback and then phoned back the Tech helpdesk again and was informed that the department closed at 10pm. It seems the previous advisor fobbed me off as it was 9.50pm when the first call ended.
I was told that I would get a callback the next day. This did not happen. I phoned yet again and again informed that as it was Sunday the department closed early. Once again completely fobbed off by BT customer care team. Again I was told that a callback had been arranged for Monday. Once again no callback. 3 DAYS RUNNING NO CALLBACK. As I said earlier no one at BT is willing to take ownership of this complaint and get it sorted! Person I sppoke to on Monday night(Last night)said I would have to phone billing to get it sorted but, guess what, they were closed. I spoke to a Manager yet again who said that I would get a, yes a, Callback today. I told them in no uncertain terms I was sick of receiving no callback when promised there would be.
Today, Tuesday 22 June 2010, I called billing. Explained the situation. They couldn't help as nothing in notes to say what compensation I was to receive. Put back through once again to Tech helpdesk. Person on helpdesk wasn't listeneing - we'll call you back to sort this out. I eventually cracked and said that if it wasn't sorted out today then I woudl be going to the Media about this. I was put through to Complaints Manager. She said that would have to look at remote assistance to see what happened. I explained that this had already been done and was in notes. She insited that she needed to look through notes and it would take 24 hours. This is not acceptable to me since this has been ongoing since beginning of June 2010. I then siad put me through to contract terminations. SHE IGNORED this and conrtinued to speak. I said again put me through to contract terminations. Once again she ignored my request and continued to speak about looking at remote access files. I had to really raise my voice, unfortunately, for her to even accept that I wanted to speak to contract terminations. She then advised me that as I am still incontract with BT that if I was to terminate my contract the I would be liable to pay for the remainder of the contract.
IT SEEMS THAT EVEN WITH ATROCIOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE BT HAS YOU OVER A BARREL. ROLLING CONTRACTS AND COMPLETE SHAM AND ANYONE READING THIS SHOULD BE AWARE THAT BT OPERATE THIS AND DO NOT INFORM YOU WHEN YOUR CONTRACT IS ABOUT TO END. BE AWARE THAT IF YOU EVER DO HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT YOUR SERVICE YOU WILL BE ON THE PHONE FOR AN AVERAGE OF ABOUT AN HOUR AT A TIME. IF YOU ARE PUT ON HOLD, MOST OF THE TIME IT SEEMS LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN CUT OFF AS THERE IS NO MUSIC TO SAY YOU ARE ON HOLD.
I said to the complaints manager that I wanted this sorted today. She again said that needed 24 hours to look at remote access files. Unfortunately I've had to accept this.
I received a call from her again about 2.20pm today, Tuesday 22 June 2010, and was advised that my complaint was being escalated to a higher complaints desk. On holod for a further 20 minutes - seems to be wasting my life away being on hold to BT. I was put through to this desk and was promptly cut off. Lovely! They phoned back, but I explained that I had to go collect my son from nursery. Arranged for a callback at 3.30pm today. It's now 3.28pm. Will update this if I get a callback or not.

    Hello once again.
Further to my last post I received a call from BT Technical Support Complaints Department. Thank you goes to the advisor - Sandosh - for taking ownership of my issues. He is the only person who has dealt with the issue promptly and done what he has said that he is going to do. Sandosh needs a serious pat on the back for doing what everyone else didn't. Listened, acted and sorted out the issues.
Once again thank you very much Sandosh.
This is good news. It does seem a sad state of affairs that the helpdesks hardly ever actually listen to the requests made of them - this happens time after time.
In the interest of future info, would you mind giving a bit of details regarding any fix that was made, probably remotely ? It seems to imply that the problem wasn't entirely "too" massive ....

  • Major service issues with technical helpdesk / sti...

Hi does anyone know how to go about making a formal compliant, I am being passed from pillar to post through the technical helpdesk - I've wasted four hours of my time this week on the phone and still no further forward - and to top it all the technical helpdesk just to get rid of me at 10:30 last night gave me a phone number of the wholesale team at the local exchange which is no longer in use.  the service has been so utterly appalling and I'm still without internet access which has been the case since Tuesday due to a network issue outside of the home.
I have lost faith in the service and I need urgent help to get this resolved, then I will think about if BT really want my business.
    Thanks!

What is the network issue, I assume that its something to do with Openreach?

  • MBP 15'' 2011 battery lasts only 3 hours!

    Hi
I bought MBP 2011 15 inch last week and received it on Monday.
    My configs are
    Model Name:          MacBook Pro
      Model Identifier:          MacBookPro8,2
      Processor Name:          Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2.2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
and I also upgraded to high resolution.
So far, I'm pretty much enjoying my new MBP
But I have one main concern with my new laptop's battery time.
The battry time is really really short!
When I first turned it on, it took 3 hours to drain the battery. (starting from 98% or so)
And I did calibration thing so that the battery runs more "efficiently"
Of course, I didn't expect that calibration would make the battery last longer, but no matter what,
I only get 3 hours of battery life and I'm not even doing something that would drain my battery fast.
I just do simple web surfing and word documenting on about 30-40% brightness (or even lower sometimes)
And I get only 3 hours of bettery time.
So is this because my MBP has four i7 cores or or what?
Previous MBP 15'' models seem to last at least around 5 hrs doing exactly same thing.
And considering that I have been using my MBP only for 5 days or so, I'm worried that the battery life will become even less!
    Maybe like 2 hrs?
Is this a particular issue with my laptop, that I can return and exchange to new model or get fixed without fees?
Or is it just built this way that all the MBP 2011 15'' models have this kind of short battery life?

OMG turning off the Bluetooth just gave me like extra 3 hours of battey time! (6 hrs total)
I didn't even know it was turned on in the first place because I never touched it.
I guess bluetooth is on as a default setting.
Thank you so much for advice.
I feel so stupid, but please be understanding since it's actually my first MacBook.
But I'm really glad to find out that I was wasting battery with bluetooth on, and now I can get better battery time.
    Thanks once again!

  • Yesterday, as today's deadline for filing tax returns approached, I was paralyzed by the inability to create new IRS PDF forms and to retrieve archived ones from a year ago. My computer went crazy. 24 hours later, I am still paralyzed. Can you help?

My computer went crazy yesterday on two occasions involving PDF documents. One dealt with attachments to an email from a bona fide corporation. The other dealt with IRS PDF forms & schedules needed for today's submission.
As both dealt with PDF and had nothing else in common, I suspected my PC had a virus. When I asked a local store technician, he agreed. I turned to Norton, which protects my PC from viruses, and after a few hours of really thorough searching, the computer was found to have no viruses.
Before describing what I call "crazy" computer behavior, you need to know that I have long had IE8 as my default browser but a few weeks ago switched to Mozilla Firefox because IE8 had beome incompatible with some websites from which I get information.
When I received the email from AT&T email service and clicked the first of four icons representing attachments, there was figuratively an explosion on my monitor: a series of new tabs, each called New Tab, burst onto the monitor--but no text or picture. The new tabs appeared faster than I coul kill them. I finally decided just to shut down the computer, hoping they would not reappear when I restarted. I was wrong. After 2 repeats, I decided to forget about the attachments and asked the sender to send them to me by regular mail.
That was no solution for my IRS PDFs. I wanted to complete filling in the various forms and schedules that I had begun months ago so that I could mail them today to the IRS (without having to copy them all in ink). When I tried to open the first one, BOOM. The same thing happened: the blizzard of New Tabs atop blank pages; my IRS form or schedule did not show up. Did the same shutdown/restart routine with the same results.
When I looked at the list of current forms that had to be completed, I noticed something very strange: the icons that began the listing of the documents' names were replaced one by one by Mozilla icons. When I moused over them, they said Firefox HTML. Why?
Starting the day today, I had the same experience. What's more, when I started to retrieve 2012 IRS PDFs from a year ago, the same New Tab tabs appeared and had to be killed, and Mozilla icons replaced whatever icon was there before.
Assuming that the problem arose with Adobe Reader's reading of the PDFs, I contacted Adobe but got no helpful phone number because PDFs are a free service and was directed to use this Forum to get help.
What do I have to do to (a) read and use PDFs in the normal way and (b) remove the Mozilla icon from those that have appeared on icon documents. If Mozilla is the source of the problem, shall I go back to IE8? (In my 80s, I want eventually to replace my old computer but for the time being I must continue using it. It will not take an IE9. Anther possible default browser would be Google Chrome, but I have unfavorable impressions of it because of its intrusiveness, loading my PC with stuff I do not need.
    Can you help?

The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.

  • Open and close application at some hour.

Is it possible that Automator opens one or more applications at, for example, 3 in the morning and close it/them 4 hours later?
If possible, how can I do it?
    Thanks.

What do you do if the application (Azureus) does not appear to be scriptable?
No AppleScript library for it appears in AppleScript Editor. It is a Java App. When I attempted to run the script it just times out for ever waiting for a reply from Azureus. Azureus itself sets up the spinning beachball of death.
I was hoping to simply be able to record closing the application/s by going to its menu and selecting "Close". Unfortunately, according to Macscripter, OSX applications do not support this.
Which makes me wonder why it is such an obvious part of AppleScript Editor's GUI. A cruel joke by Apple perhaps?

  • Report gets cancelled or terminated after eight hours

While doing load testing of reports, all of my reports got cancelled or terminated after eight hours. I bang the report server and database with 30 long running reports using RWCGI60. The rwcgi60/showmyjobs shows that all are running for 8 hours and after that boom... all gets cancelled one by one with in a five minute period. I still see the SQL session activity on database. The report server log says the server engines are crashed one after the other. I have Maxengine set to 15. When I submit 30 reports I see 15 running and 15 enqueued.
Is there any timeout parameter set on RWCGI60 where by it lost contact of database? RWCLI60 works fine and finished all reports.
Thanks and Please let me know if you further information...

    Hi
The timeout is a seeting in http server on which you host Reports CGI. Once that time limit is reached and no output is written, the web server would time out for that request. Reports CGI does not have any timeout parameter property.
    Thanks

  • Why do I have mysterious cellular data usage (Verizon) every 6 hours on all 3 of my iphone 5's?

I have recently uncovered mysterious cellular usage on three different iPhones. I am a Verizon customer and discovered this by examining the cellular data use logs. What I found are a long series of mysterious data usage logs. I have visited the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store 3 times now to log notes and discuss the issue. It is being escalated.
    The characterstics are as follows:
All my family phones have the appropriate IOS and hardware updates (verified by the GeniusBar at my local Apple Store).
This is occuring across three phones, which happen to all be iphone 5. Two are 5 and the other a new 5s. We do have one iphone 4 in the family but the issue (so far as I can tell), is not happening on it.
One iphone 5 has IOS 7, the other IOS 6. The new 5s has of course IOS 7.
Mysterious data use happens even while connected to wifi.
Each mysterious data use log entry is exactly 6 hours apart. For example: 2:18 AM, 8:18 AM, 2:18 PM, 8:18 PM, 2:18 AM ... etc. It cycles AM and PM, same times, for a day to many days until some condition causes it to change (evolve).
The times evolve. One day it could be cycling through at one time series, then it changes to another time sequence and continues until the next condition.
The data usage is anywhere from a few K to many MB. The largest I've seen is over 100 MB.
The logs clearly show these usages are not due to human interaction. It is a program.
If cellular connection is used frequently (by the owner), the pattern is hard to pick out. Luckily, my family member is very good about only using wifi whenever possible, so these mysterious use patterns are easy to pick out.
Verizon allows access to 90 days worth of data logs, so I downloaded and analyzed them. This has been happening for at least 90 days. I have found 298 instances of mysterious use out of 500 total connections to cellular. A total of 3.5 GB of mysterious cellular data has been recorded as used in that 90 days by this phone alone. Only .6 GB of the total cellular data use is legitimate, meaning by the person.
This issue is occuring across three different phones. Two are iPhone 5, and the third is a recently purchased iPhone 5s. The 5s I have not touched beyone the basic startup. I have left it alone on a desk for 3 days, and looking at the logs, the mysterious data use in the same pattern is occuring.
So ... I am speaking to both sides, Verizon and Apple to get answers. Verizon puts their wall up at data usage. It doesn't matter how it is being used, you simply need to pay for it. Yes, the evidence I have gathered is getting closer to someting on Verizon's end.
Before pressing in that direction, I am hoping someone reading this may recognize this issue as a possible iPhone 5 issue ... OR ... you, right now, go look at your data usage logs available through your carrier's web account, and see if you can pick out a pattern of mysterious use. Look especially at the early morning instances when you are most likely sleeping.
I am hoping this is a simple issue that has a quick resolution. I'm looking for the "ooohhh, I see that now ..." But I am starting to think this might be much bigger, but the fact is, most customers rarely or never look at their data usage details, much less discover mysterious use patterns.
The final interesting (maybe frightening part) thing about all this is that I discovered while talking to Verizon ... they do not divulge which direction the data is going. This goes for any use, mysterious or legitimate. Is cellular data coming to your phone, or leaving it? Is something pulling data from your phone? We know that it is possible to build malware apps, but the catch with my issue is that it is also happening on a brand new iphone 5s with nothing downloaded to it.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks for the replies. It took a while not hearing anything so thought I was alone. I have done many of the suggestions already. The key here is that it occurs on both phones with apps, and phones still packaged in a box.
A Genius Bar supervisor also checked his Verizon data usage log and found the same 6 hour incremental use. Suprisingly, he did not express much intrigue over that. Maybe he did, but did not show it.
I think the 6 hour incremental usage is the main issue here. I spoke with Verizon (again) and they confirmed that all they do is log exactly when the phone connected to the tower and used data. The time it records is when the usage started. I also found out that the time recorded is GMT.
What is using data, unsolicited, every 6 hours?
    Why does it change?
Why does it only happen on the iPhone 5 series and not the 4?
Since no one from Apple seems to be chiming in on this, and I have not received the promised calls from Apple tech support that the Genius Bar staff said I was suppose to receive, it is starting to feel like something is being swept under the rug.
I woke up the other day with another thought ... What application would use such large amounts of data? Well ... music, video, sound and pictures of course. Well ... what would someone set automatically that is of any use to them? hmmm ... video, pictures, sound. Is the iPhone 5 succeptible to snooping? Can an app be buried in the IOS that automatically turns on video and sound recording, and send it somewhere ... every 6 hours? Chilling. I noted that the smallest data usage is during the night when nothing is going on, then it peaks during the day. The Genius Bar tech and I looked at each other when I drew this sine wave graph on the log print outs during an appointment ...
