Hi 8 tapes & audio levels

Question

What is the best wat to convert Hi 8 tapes into I movie?
Is there anyway to to have the music from Itunes fade out when people start speaking?

No I think you misunderstood. You need a Digital8 camcorder which was the counter part to MiniDV camcorders as the only two types of digital camcoders using tape and recording in DV. Many of the Digital8 camcorders, particularly the Sony models, were made to be backward compatible with your old Hi8 and 8mm analog tapes and would allow you to directly play those tapes on a Digital8 camcorder.
There is no way to hook up firewire to your analog Hi8 camcorder. So you need a way to convert the footage to digital. Some possible methods include:
* Buying a Digital8 camcorder that can play back old analog tapes.
* Buying a MiniDV camcorder that offers pass through conversion where you hook it up as Hi8->MiniDV->Mac and the MiniDV does the AtoD on the fly.
* Buying a MiniDV that does not have pass through but does let you record onto digital tape from ananalog source cabled into the MiniDV. Then transfer the digital tape to the Mac.
* Buy a stand along converter box.
As to the audio, you should be able to switch to the time line view (not the clip view) along the bottom and you should see your tune on a separate track shown as a waveform. Click the edit volume box and you can now grab parts of the song and drag up or down to fade down or fade up the volume anywhere you want.
