Hooking up HP laser jet4

I've got an oldie, but goody printer:  HP laserjet4.  I've bought a parallel port to usb connecter, but still cannot get my new Imac to print to this beast.  Any ideas?

That "oldie, but goodie" printer does not have a compatible HP printer driver for Lion from HP.  That said:
People who need to SCAN & PRINT without a compatible Lion driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .
The next window looks like this:
Hope this helps

  • Hard drive corruption caused by UPS/Laser printer failure?

I have corrupted two drives in the last two months. The first drive is the 320G version that came with the computer about 3 years ago. My computer in powered through the UPS, and I have hooked up the laser printer to the same UPS. The laser printer is smelling like burnt plastic the last few times I powered it up, and it caused clicking noised from the UPS. I am assuming that is tripping some protection circuit in the UPS.
So my question is this: can the laser printer cause a failure in the UPS that causes a failure in the iMac power supply which corrupted the hard drive?
I don't mind replacing the hard drive again, but I don't want this to become a regular thing...
Also, the house I am in has occassional power interruptions and power glitches. But the power have not been completely off in a while.
    Thanks in advance

No, it's UPS; the backup battery power supply that protects the computer in case of power interruptions.

  • Why do both my printers tell me they are offline?

I have a Kodak AIO5300 inkjet multifunction printer and it was telling me that it could not print as the printer was offline. All checks of connections failed to identify a cause and using the printer dialogue box did not allow me to change the status. I installed fresh printer drivers in case of a corruption but the printer remained offline.
I subsequently thought I would hook up my laser printer as I had not yet used it so i got it ouf of the box connected it up, my iMac identified it correctly and offered to install the drivers which I accepted and guess what? As soon as I tried to print it was to be advised that the printer was offliine.
I suspect some form of system bug that is beyond my knowledge so if someone can help me tweak my settings that would be much appreciated.

Are printing via usb or wireless?
If you are printing using usb and you can see the printer listed if you click on the "print and fax" in system preferences? Click on the printer and then the minus sign below ( - ). That will remove the printer. Then click on the plus sign ( + ) and re add the printer. That sometimes will do the trick.
You can also try going to the printer brand web site and find your printer and download the latest dirvers and firmware directly from the Kodak site or whatever brand your laser printer is.
I have a similar problem with an HP 6500 wireless printer. I get it loaded up and it works great wireless for several days and then one day I go to print and it is offline. I have to back and ask the printer to find the modem and re-enter the securtiy code and get it back online. And it works until it goes off line and then it's deja vu all over again.
I think that there is a tech problem with the apple systems around all this because I read about so many people having a problem with a number of different brands of printers and the common denominator is the apple computer. I have not seen a good solution yet. Does apple monitor this site and ever give answers?

  • Printer requesting to load legal paper so print job fails

The printer is a HP Laserjet 4 series PCL-5, device driver: HPLJ4.
    It has 3 trays: #1 is a bypass, #2 and #3 have 8.5x11 paper.
This printer has been in use for some time, but suddenly the printer is now requesting to "load plain legal" when a print job from SAP originates.  If the user disregards this message and prints anyway then only part of the print job comes out.  If legal paper is loaded, the print job comes out.  But the users do not want it printed to legal, they want the 8.5x11.  I have tried specifying the 'Tray Info' as letter in SPAD.  The printer works just fine for any Windows applications like Microsoft Word, but not with SAP.  Another printer (same brand and device type) does work as expected and the config in SPAD is the same for these 2.  The printer support group says nothing has changed in the config in the printer itself and that the issue has to be on the SAP side.
Any feedback on this would be appreciated!

Since you say another printer of the same brand using the same device type works with the same settings in SPAD I think the problem is with the printer itself.
This issue comes up occasionally at my site - often after someone prints something out of the ordinary like labels.  Nothing changes in the configuration menu of the printer but the printer asks to load legal when printing from SAP.
I think there is a lever on the side of the paper trays on HP Laser Jet4's that can be adusted for paper selection.  Have your printer support group compare the paper tray lever settings of the printer that doesn't work out of SAP with one that does.

  • Need help hooking up an old laser printer to my wireless router

I have an old HP Laserjet4 Plus that has been a workhorse. I've had it for years and it still works great. Previously I was using it as my network printer, plugged into a WRTP54G Linksys Vonage router. That setup worked fine, but over time the router began to drop my connection over and over. I decided to buy a new router and leave the old one to only use as a Vonage device.
I bought a WRT54GL and got it going yesterday (with the help of Linksys tech support). It is now my front router and the old Vonage router is plugged into it just so my telephone service can work. Now my telephone works and my wireless connection works, but I am unable to make my network printer work.
I know that my laptop has the proper driver as the printer was working fine through the old router. What do I need to do to get my printer working again?
Also, I am not very technically savvy so please spell out any steps I need to take for a novice. Thanks so much for your consideration.

    yuppers you can.
but first write down that your rounter is now 192.168.15.1 not 192.168.1.1
after you made the last change did you have to restart your pc?
you will need to print out a status page like you did on the other. what is the current ip address it has? is it in the 192.168.15.xx range? if it is then what is it?  as long as its .3 or higher but not .100 - 49 then skip the next step.  keep in mind we want the printer to be static ip.
ok anyways, on your new printer you will need to set it to a static ip of 192.168.15.3 with a gateway of 192.168.15.1 and sub as 255.255.255.0 just like your other printer except the ip address off by one.
and in your pc right click on the printer > properties > ports > and either add 192.168.15.3 or modify the existing ip <<<really all we are doing is matching the ips so if printer is 192.168.15.35 make it that.  make sure the printer is selected to 192.168.15.3 press save.
enjoy and i hope your hair grows back out =)

  • When I try to hook up and download my HP laser jet printer m276nw I get a error message

when I try to hookup and download my hp laserjet m276nw to my windows xp  I get a error message that the software does not support this version of windows. the specs say that it will work on windows xp and there is lots of room and memory but it will not proceed.

    Hey corkyh,
There were some different versions of Windows XP released over the years.  I would like for you to check and let me know the exact version of Windows XP you have.
Click on the Start menu button
Right Click on My Computer and select Properties
Under Windows Version does it say Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 3?
Further down the page, what System Type do you have? (32 bit vs 64 bit)

  • Fiddler Hook has stopped working since lase FF update. Is a fix on the way?

FiddlerHook (extension) provided a quick shortcut to clear browser cache. Now == ( Javascript Application) : undefined

What is the "mass quantity removed by CCleaner?"
Firefox has 4 files that it never deletes from the cache folder. When you clear the cache, it rewrites them internally. Empty subfolders also remain, although I don't know how many are preserved. But I would be surprised if there were many more files.
You can examine the folder contents by pasting the following in the address bar of a Windows Explorer window or in the Run dialog on the Start menu:
    %LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
This should display the temporary data folders associated with each of your Firefox profiles. This is not the profile folder that contains your valuable data like bookmarks; that one is under the %APPDATA% path.
If you have multiple profiles, click into the folder that was updated most recently. Then right-click the Cache folder and check Properties for the total number of files and folders. I think the minimum would be 4 files and 16 folders.

  • HP 1100A Laser Jet printer and Vista

Has anyone had success using a HP1100A laser jet with the Vista operating system? I had it working for a short period, but then it just stoped printing. I used an adaptor cable to match the printer to a USB port. I then installed a parallel port card to the computer. Still no luck printing. I can hook the 1100A to a computer with XP and it works fine. Vista does not recogonize the 1100A. I had a neighbor who is a computer programer look at it and he says the computer is not communicating with the printer. He tried using several different drivers from the HP website, plus tried using the disk that came with the printer, all without success.
    This question was solved.

Here's the page I was looking for:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c00867904
I configured my 1100 as a 1000.  If you follow the directions this should take care of it.  I'm not sure if I lost any of the functionality, but I do know I'm now using my Business Inkjet 1100 as intended with Vista even though HP says this model isn't supported in Vista 64bit.  I'm a much happier camper now.  I'm not sure if this was the printer you were talking about or not.  Good luck.

  • HT1515 can i hook up a ethernet printer and a usb printer to the same airport express

I want to hook up an ethernet printer and a usb printer to an airport express? Is this possible and how should I set up the airport express?

I have an Airport Extreme, 5th generation, that is hooked to the internet and is the source of my home network. I am replacing an old AXs 801.11g with an 801.11n unit. The need to run a printer on the USB port is because it is an old HP 7400 all in one with a wireless g card. I want to set the network up for all wireless N and 5 Ghz for hopefully faster network speed. It is my understanding that if the network is set that way, the wireless g printer will not be recognized on the network. Since I currently am running a ethernet only Xerox Laser on the ethernet port, I would need to hook the HP using USB inorder to keep it on the network for scanning and such. Thanks to you and your information, I think I have the bases covered. If there is a best way to set up the AXs, or if I am missing something more, I thank you in advance and look forward to your assistance.
    Thanks

  • Need a good re-shippable Laser Printer

My company is conducting training in new markets. This involves shipping training equipment, and then re-shipping that equipment to the next location.
We found that despite removing toner and taping up the toner openings, the last model of laser printer we used didn't re-ship well. It would be opened with toner everywhere and be un-usable. I'm not sure if this is a problem just with our printer; it is the one we use in our stores (Kyocera FS-4020DN KX) and not an HP model.
My boss wants to go with an HP printer.  I'm looking for a monochrome laser printer that can do at least 20ppm and be "re-shippable" for under $500. We just use it for printing text reports.  Any suggestions?

I've had my HP 1500 Series AIO for 6 years. It is old technology but the thing still works and I won't get rid of it until it stops working. I have the thing hooked up to my Apple Extreme Base Station so I can print "wirelessly" from this iMac. I had the same arrangement with my old PowerBook G4 and could print from anywhere in my house. I have to hook the printer directly to the computer to scan and to do diagnostics.
When it comes time for me to get a new printer, I'll look at the ratings in Consumer Reports. I'll also seriously consider another HP unless they have been severely downrated.

  • TS1253 Brother laser printer not responding

My old Airport Extreme Base Station (the white flying saucer one) was acting flakey and I replaced it with a new Airport Extreme Base Station. I set up the new base station and hooked up a Brother HL-5070N laser printer to the base station with Ethernet and an Epson 3800 with USB. I deleted all the printers and replaced them with the Brother and Epson printers.
The problem is that the Brother printer doesn't respond when I print to it. Sometimes it will print when I cycle the power off and then back on.
I have had virtually no problems with either printer in the past. They just worked and worked.
I am running Lion 10.7.3 and have downloaded the latest printer driver from the Brother site. The driver is the CUPS version 4.10 (I think).
I have restarted the computer (nearly new MacBook Pro) several times with no success in curing the problem.
A symptom with the new AEBS is that the status LED is flashing amber which is supposed to indicate that there is a problem. The Airport Utility tells me that there is a problem with the internet connection, but I am able to access the internet.
I would be grateful for any help.
    Thanks.

    HACKINTOSH,
Thanks for checking in on my printer problem.
I managed to get the laser printer to work by a lot of fiddling. I had to reset the printer to it's factory defalut setting several times. Also, the AEBS flashing amber light magically changed to solid green -- I don't quite know why.
I think the Brother laser printer is working now. I hope it stays that way.

  • I can not install my wireless P2015 dn Laser Jet Printer with the MS 7 software.

For three years the P2015 worked "wireless"on my Lenovo T60p with microsoft XP.  It ran through my wireless router and printed fine.
I just updates the software to MS 7 (32 bits, 2007) and the printer will not run off the router.  I hooked the printer up directly by cord, downloaded the printer drivers off the MS 7 software and it worked fine while attached.  The router works fine with MS 7 for the internet and the email on my computer and the two other computers (still MS XP) on the router.
I tried installing the 2015nd Laser Jet using the CD driver it came with originally and I come to a screen "searching for available printers" and there is nothing in the box below to choose from (blank screen).  It goes though a "searching for available printers" routine and finally the message come up "No printers were found".  This same thing occurs when I try downloading from the HP Web site drivers.  I get the same screens and the same results.
What do I need to do?  (I am a beginning level of computer knowledge)
    This question was solved.

    Hi Edronenburg,
Even though the software installer can not find your printer automatically, you can still install the printer if you know the IP address.
If you press and hold the "Go" button on the control panel for several seconds (until the lights begin flashing) the config page will print. On this page you can find the IP address of the printer that has been assigned by the router. During the software install, instead of having the installer automatically search for the printer, choose to manually enter the IP address. This should allow the software install to complete successfully.
(Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.)

  • Multiple COM Ports after installing to peer to peer Brother Laser Printers.

My particular situation is one Iv'e never encountered in thirty years of working on micro-computers. I have a peer to peer LAN hooked through a Gateway (4-Port \ WIFI (Frontier=Telco) ADSL\MODEM\Router made by Net Gear. I have 4 Wireless ip's and 3 cat 6
wired ip presences on the LAN. All the network is MS  WIN 7 64 bit software and all the computers are 64 bit hardware, I have the home Group numbers matched up and everything shared on the LAN side of the Gateway. The problem on one of the clients (Dell
Notebook, 2 years old) is that when I installed the two cd's with the Brother suite of software (HL-2270 DW Monochrome laser printer and a (MFC-9130 CW Color Laser all in one Printer\scanner\fax\copier everything was fine for a while until the two printers
began to jump their dynamic assigned IP's. So, I statically assigned on the two printers with the ip address they worked on after rein stalling both software cd's ; uninstalled the old software first of course. I am hunting for a fix, something in the OS or
Registry short of a clean reload of the whole Dell notebook to bring the ports back to 3 LP and 4 com ports! They read 4 lpt ports and 24 COM ports presently.

Have you gone into Devices and Printers, right clicked on one of the printers and selected "Printer properties" and then the

  • 20" Intel iMac and Samsung Laser Printer

I ordered my new 20" Intel iMac last Saturday, the 14th. From day one, it said estimated ship was Jan. 24th. Yesterday I checked the status and it still said the 24th, but it also said estimated delivery for Jan. 31st. I was sad because when i ordered it, it said estimated ship 3-5 business days. Jan. 24th would be longer than that. So I checked my e-mail this morning, and lo and behold, I have an e-mail from Apple saying my new computer shipped out this morning, making it 5 business days since I ordered it (4 if they considered Monday a holiday). I just wanted to reassure others that the ship date may not be as late as it's estimated.
My question is this... I have a Samsung laser printer (the ML-1740) hooked up to my fiance's Windows XP machine. My Sony Vaio desktop (which I'm giving to my mom) can see the printer just fine. It prints just as if it was hooked up to it. My Powerbook however, cannot see the Samsung printer over the network. I'm a nursing student and print out tons of text only stuff, so I really need to use the laser printer with my new Mac. I've see a lot of different discussions on Mac drivers for this particular model, but I haven't tried any of them on my Powerbook, and I'm curious as to whether or not any of them would even work with the new Intel Mac. My other question is whether or not there is any way I can get my iMac to see the printer on the Windows. I don't necessarily have to install drivers on the Mac if I don't need to. I just need a solution to make it work. If I have to install something, that's fine. If I can just make it print over the network, that's great too. I don't ever use any of the settings the Samsung software provides, so just basic printing is fine. I just don't want to have to e-mail all my documents to myself and then go to the Windows machine to have to print. I apologize if any of this is confusing. What are some of the things I can try to make this work? Or can someone point me in another direction to get the answers. I was stupid in not realizing that the printer didn't support Mac OS X when I bought it, even though I already have one Mac. Thanks so much! I love these forums!

My shipping was the same way, maybe they had a supply shortage of RAM or just a long queue of computers waiting for upgrades and not enough people to perform them. Mine shipped today with an estimate of for the 25th.
I have looked around on Apples site and couldn't find anything about supported printers. You will have to install some form of driver on the Mac. You will have to make sure the PC has it shared correctly. Read about printer sharing in the windows help files. I don't know any more off hand.

  • Airport and Colour Laser Printer Sharing-Any recommendations for a printer?

    Hi,
I am looking for reasonably priced (about 400-600USD) colour laser printer that I could hooked up to my Airport Express' USB connection.
Would anyone has any recommadations for a type&model?
One option that I have been examing is Epson's Aculaser C1100. Any experiences with this one?
I could go with C1100N model with LAN connection, but I would love share the printer wirelessly (without the extra effort of rearranging my ip address environment..)
    Thanks,
    Tuure
    Mac OS X (10.4.4)

You are righ, i own a eculaser 1100 connected via airport express too. It works without any problem, if useing power pcs. If I try to prit using an intel mac, the new intel driver will hang up and the printer driver told me an interface type error -1. Epson support told me to ask the manufacturer of my os... Haha, like i said before it works with the old driver for power pc (V 2.3 ?) but for intel mac you have to use V3.0. And only this will not work. Does anyone have an idea for me? PowerPC works fine, win dows xp using bonjour prints fine too. Connection the aculaser directly to the mac book pro will work too, but using airport will no print me anything using the intel mac
