How di I prevent an automatic computer restart after exe install?

How do I stop the msi installer from restarting the computer after installing an exe? I have built an installer package of an application using LabView Project.  When running the SetUp.exe the msi installer is automatically restarting the computer after the completion of the installation.  I have the following in the setup.ini file.
[MsiEngine]
WinNTPath=supportfiles\WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe
RequiredVersion=3.0.0.0
CommandLine=/passive /norestart
I am using LabView version 8.5.
Any help would be appreciated.
BethV

Hi, BethV,
Run setup.exe with /? option:
setup.exe /?
Then you will see following dialog:
It seems to be option /r:n - is what you needed
best regards,
Andrey.

  • Prevent automatic workflow restart after error on an interface

Hi, i've got an IDOC-XI-SOAP interface that sends large xml's.
It causes me constants time-outs because, the reciever interface, doesn't send the response until finish processing (more than 3 minutes per IDOC).
I need 2 things to solve this issue.
1- Change the time-out for this particular interface
2- Cancel the automatic workflow restart after error on this particular interface
    Thanks for your time,
    Roberto

RSXMB_RESTART_MESSAGES program when schedueld in BG restarts failed messages. Hence you can cancel this process. But it will affect other interfaces also.

I have 1 more Question for you. Are you usigna  BPM for IDOC --> XI -- >SOAP?? B'cos IDOCS are aysnc in nature & you are talking about waiting for SOAP response from your receiver.

  • Computer restarts after syncing 80gb ipod classic

Every time I sync my ipod classic,(80gb)the computer restarts itself. How do I stop this? I'm using windows XP home edition. Any advise will be greatly appreciated

Are you getting any sort of blue screen when the PC reboots? If so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x\[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
If the blue screen mentions a specific file (for example, “ati3duag.dll”), let us know what that is called too. (Exact spelling, please.)
Here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
If you're not seeing a blue screen (or if you’re just seeing a flash of a blue screen before the PC reboots), we can use the following technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.
With those settings in place, does a blue screen appear before the PC reboots?

How can I prevent my iPhone4 from starting (booting) after connecting to Power?

You can't so far as I know. You can however, shut it down after it's connected to power and it should not power back on as long as it's connected. If the power is disconnected/reconnected, it will power back on.
If you just want to avoid calls, etc. while it's plugged in, you could just put it in airplane mode.

  • Computer restarted after Mac OSX ...

I've been surfing the net for a solution to this for two days, and so far nothing has worked. I'll abbreviate this 'nightmare' as best I can ...
I have a Mac G5 running 10.5x. Been running fine since I bought it some years back. Last week it just froze. Fans kicked on - the whole shabang. I was able to view the hard drive using my laptop and save my important files to an external hard drive. I attempted an Archive and Install, but the computer froze at 23% complete. I was able to get it started again after multiple attempts only to freeze again (and again, and again). I decided to forgo the Archive and Install and just wipe the slate clean with a fresh install. After the new install, the machine runs ... well kinda' whenever it pleases then it freezes. Initially I was getting the black kernel panic box. Now it just freezes up and I have to do a hard restart which gives me the dreaded "The computer was restarted after Mac OSX quit unexpectedly" when it reboots. Then it runs for a while, freezes, restart, run, freeze. You get the picture.
The forums that I've visited suggested many things, and here's what I've done so far:
    Verified and repaired my disk
    Repaired permissions
Ran a program called "Remember" because many of these issues seem to be related to RAM. (Remember reported all RAM to be okay)
    Disabled screensavers
    Disabled sleep
    Disconnected all peripherals
Ran software update so all software is current
I had an Apple Genius look at it yesterday, and he told me everything's fine. He opened and closed apps, surfed the net, a total of five or ten minutes. The machine worked like a champ. It never froze. Of course I bring it home and just today it's frozen three times. No pattern that I have noticed, and I've been documenting all of my actions.
From what I've read, this is USUALLY a software issue. I have not installed any software since the reinstall. All that's on the machine is what was included on the install DVD. The RAM that I'm using is the original factory installed RAM (2-2 gig chips).
My IT friend told me to cut my losses because the machine is toast. I'm having trouble believing that.
Anyone out there have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance -

Do not use the leopard disk, use the gray disk (Disk 1) you got from the original box. It will erase the entire hard drive and install factory settings. After you install from the gray disk, let it run for a little until you install the leopard retail disk.

  • Any one's computer freezing after Lion install?

I have an iMac i7 with 8GB RAM.  My machine is not even 2 years old.  I have never had problems with it freezing up on me before, but after I installed Lion, my computer will at random shut down on me.  I get the gray screen that slides down from the top telling me I need to shut down my computer manually.
Is anyone else getting this problem too?

I finally made the leap from PC to Apple and last week bought a new I-Mac 27" 2.7QC and downloaded Lion on to it yesterday (they offered it for free as the machine is so new.)
I know very little about Macs but it is now reguarly freezing on me - in fact i have no idea how to get out of the current screen so have come to my sony laptop to post this.
    I have tried command-alt-backspace; command-esc; command-q
What else should I be trying?  There is a spinning coloured disc and I can move the mouse around but nothing responds.
This was triggered when i tried to open a you-tube video to undersatnd what Twitter for mac is....
I have also had problems posting to Wordpress and Twitter today - with the posts not going through...and so having to come to my laptop!  Madness!
So far I am disappointed - this is my first mac - but I am hoping this is early teething problems.
If all else fails, is it best that I turn the mac off by pressing the button/disc on the back of the screen (does that work?) or should I leave it and wait until the morning to speak to someone?  And / or is there a 24-hour help line I can call.... I've only had the machine for a week!
Many thanks if anyone can help....

  • How do i reconnect mobile account home folders after re-install?

we have problems with our server interfering with the college server. It kept changing our hostname so i had to enable DNS on the second ethernet port on xserve which prevented it from changing it but now is messing up the network as our server is being used for dns by the rest of the college. So i either need to restrict our dns to only answer queeries from specific addresses i.e my laptop and colleagues and forward all of the rest to another dns server. Or i have to re-install the osx server software and change the name to correspond with their servers given name for our xserve. The problem with re-installing it is that the students have a lot of work in their home folders which i can't loose. But i'm aware that the mobile accounts will be tied to the old domain name. Is their any tips you can give us so that i don't loose their home folders and it will sync back the client machines after i have put the new domain name on. I'm also aware that you can export the usernames from workgroup manager but not the passwords. Is there anything else i need to do so that i can just reconnect their accounts to the existing home folders after re-install? In other words i need to know the easiest way to do this to reduce dissruption to students files? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Also will i have to delete the students local folders on their imacs and sync back from the server again?

ok reinstalled everything dns seems to be working have done sudo changeip -checkhostname and it says that both names match but then i started open directory and can't seem to get Kerberos started, i've tried changing it to stand alone then back again but it does nothing. I'm wondering why this would happen? i've tried adding a kerberos record but it doesn't do it just does nothing so i don't know what i'm doing wrong. I wondered if it might be a problem with the two network cards and dns as on ethernet one it is getting the dns name xserve.xxxx.ac.uk (which matches what the college server wants to call us) but on ethernet 2 gets xserve-2.local because it tells me that it already exists on ethernet one and renames it to this. I need to set up NAT so have ethernet coming in on port one and out again on port two. I wonder if my dns is backwards as its got the 192. address the NAT uses but its linked to the ethernet port one dns maybe this is the problem. would this cause open directory not to start kerberos?

  • How can I prevent Firefox automatically updating when first opened on a new CentOS Installation ?

    Hi,
I just installed CentOS on a new virtual machine for testing. I need to run Firefox 28 on it.
NO. Don't argue. It needs to be firefox 28.. Yes, I know firefox 35 is out. Yes I know it fixes important vulnerabilities. Yes, I know it has a load of new features. That information won't help me in the slightest. I need Firefox 28 on this virtual machine for a very specific reason, firefox 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 won't be suitable for this purpose.... The reason I need it is to do with testing a specific website compatibility with older browser versions on multiple operating systems. I am fully aware that the latest version of firefox is the "best"... but it's not what I need right now, so please don't ask questions like "why are you using an older version" or suggest things like "you know, it's really in your best interests to use the latest version"... I get it, OK.... but that's not a helpful reply to this question, because I have a really specific requirement here.
... sorry if that seems rude, I just know what sort of replies get posted here whenever someone suggests using an older browser. I do get why people give such advice. I do understand the benefits of keeping computers that connect to the internet up to date. This particular Virtual Machine won't actually be used to connect to the internet... just to a test website on an intranet.
So the problem I have is that this installation of CentOS 6.4 (x64) comes with Firefox 31. When it first opens, before I have a chance to toggle off update checking, it begins downloading Firefox 35.0.1 and I haven't figured out how to abort the download. I thought about killing the task, but I feared what that might do. So I let it update to Firefox 35 and thought I'd just downgrade it to Firefox 28 afterwards.
I do have the standalone installation of Firefox 28 for linux (firefox-28.0.tar.bz2). I can extract it on the CentOS virtual machine. I thought for my purpose, I could then just run the browser binary.... but it started updating before I could change the option to never check for updates... and there's no option to abort the download there....... sigh...
So I tried editing the file update-setting.ini. I was quite hopeful when I saw it say:
; If you modify this file updates may fail.
; Do not modify this file.
So I changed the setting below to say:
    [Settings]
    ACCEPTED_MAR_CHANNEL_IDS=dont_update_this_please
hoping that my rather rash change might indeed cause updates to fail :-)
Sadly, it seems that the updates are still happening.
Basically here is what I need on CentOS - A way to run Firefox 28 without it updating to a newer version without asking me first. I don't mind if it keeps asking me... so long as it asks me instead of just doing it without asking.
Just to be clear again - this is for a test configuration I have to build, on a virtual machine. It's OK for this one specific machine to have vulnerabilities, it's OK that it doesn't have all the new features of Firefox 35. It's what I need. It won't be used to browse the internet and go to dangerous web sites that might implant malicious code. It will only be used to connect to a specific web server, behind a corporate firewall, that my company tightly controls. I'm pretty sure doesn't have malware on it (if it does, I have much bigger problems that using an old version of a browser) . Then in a few weeks time, this VM will be deleted, along with the old version of Firefox I hope to have running on it.
Incidentally, I may also have to repeat whatever I'm doing here later on another CentOS VM to install Firefox 27, 26, 25... but I'm hoping I don't have to... but I assume that whatever procedure works for Firefox 28 will work for these other slightly older versions too... don't worry, I don't have to go all the way back to Firefox 1.0... it's not THAT bad :-)
So, with the understanding very clear that normally you would probably recommend just using the latest version.... can anyone help me ?
    Thanks in advance.

Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla.

  • How can I prevent an automatic bookmark?

I downloaded the Xsticky addon for Firefox and after determining that it was not what I wanted, chose to delete it. However, it keeps adding itself as a bookmark every few days (or hours sometime!). I emailed the developer and got no help; in fact, he told me to uninstall it from my browser addons and that should do it. But I've had no luck. I'm tired of it showing up. Can anyone help me? I'd hate to stop using Firefox for this reason as it is my favorite browser!

    Bobbie,
You have two options; you can disable the recognition of links, or you can reformat the text to make it indistinguishable from normal text. This would involve eliminating the underline and changing the font color to black or whatever the rest of your document is.

  • Configuring computer restarts after software update deployment deadlines

I am currently testing in my environment and running pilot deployments at different sites and the way I am doing it is I create deadlines for my test workstations at each site on the Friday following Patch Tuesday at 6PM along with a restart. The problem
with this though is that if a user takes their laptop home with them, or a workstation is powered down during the deadline, then the next time a workstation comes back online the system will get the notice to restart.
I know I can suppress restarts, but that will lower the compliance rate and I really do not want to use maintenance windows for workstations, because I want to reserve maintenance windows for servers only.
How do you SCCM MVPs and other SCCM gurus go about doing something like this?
    Thanks

I suppress all reboots for patches .  I have a DCM rule that detects if a machine is in a pending reboot status.  I build a collection of machines with that pending reboot status DCM rule.  The package refreshes at 2:45AM each day.
I have a recurring package deployed to the "pending reboot" collection that runs at 3:00AM every day with WOL.  The package checks to see if the machine is still in pending reboot state.  The package checks to  see if the time is
between 3:00AM and 3:30AM.  If the machine still needs a reboot and it is between 3:00AM and 3:30AM, then the package notifies the user that the machine needs a reboot with a 30 minute countdown.  The user can cancel during the countdown. If the
user doesn't cancel the machine reboots at the end of the timer.
If the program is run outside of 3:00AM - 3:30AM, the user is notified that a reboot is necessary, but it does't require a reboot.
This works pretty good.  The user gets nagged by Software Updates that a reboot is required, so they can reboot on their own (and that clears the computer from the reboot collection when the DCM rule refreshes.)  If they ignore the reboot, then
machines that are WOLable or on 24x7 reboot at 3:00AM.  Machines like laptops, the user just gets nagged to death about rebooting, but avoids the real problem of a laptop getting turned on just before a presentation and the user getting forced to reboot
in front of a crowd of hundreds.  I feel like you should never ever reboot an end users computer without giving them a chance to say no.  The downside is that most other software deployments will fail when a machine is in a pending reboot state -
so you want to get out of that situation as soon as possible.
There are a lot of reasons why maintenance windows are impractical.  They are pretty good for servers and other computers that are on 24x7, but are not too good for computers that sleep, and are almost useless for laptops.

  • How do i get my mini to restart after a black screen

the mini starts up, see the apple emblem and then a screen comes down from top and tells me to restart my computer.  I do  and the same thing happens again

    Hi Collette,
What version of OSX is it, I doubt 10.1.x!?
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
