How do Apple license their software on the App Store.

I purchased Aperture 1.0 when it was released. I have purchase the packaged software for every upgrade.
Two questions about the license agreement now we have the App Sore.
1) When the next upgrade is available do I simply purchase the upgrade on the App Store on the Mac on which the current version is installed?
2) I will purchase a new iMac soon. I want to use Aperture on the original MacBook and the new iMac. Do I just log in to the App Store on the new iMac and install the latest version of Aperture? That is pay for one upgrade and run it on both Macs?
Thanks.

The answer to both questions is yes. Continue to Update the current version that you have purchased and installed with Software Update. Then when the next major Upgrade is available, buy it through the MAS, which will likely be Apple's only method of selling it by then because Apple is phasing out boxed retail software.
Any app that you have bought through the MAS can be installed on any Mac that you own, or that is in your control. All updates are free until the next major purchased upgrade.

Why does apple allow apps in the App Store hijack your Internet when certain websites? Why doesn't apple remove their products from the App Store?.

Apple saw it as their responsibility since the redirection took me to the App Store. They assisted me in stopping the redirection which is occurring on many peoples iPhones. It's a have java script problem that adking is using to get you to buy their games. The websites work normal and then all of the sudden the website is taken over by adking.com.  You can no longer use the website as it immediately takes you to the App Store without ever showing a popup to cancel the redirection. They were very helpful fixing the problem should others experiencing this specifically with adking.com.
No need to get defensive. I'm not the only one experiencing the problem Apple said.

  • How do small companies / non-profits purchase software from the app store?

Hello, I have asked this question to a few Apple Business reps and I seem to get conflicting answers depending on the person I talking to.
I work in the I.T. department for a large non-proffit.  We are no stranger to purchasing Apple computers, phones and iPads.  But we are running in to much confusion when it comes to the purchasing and specifically the licensing of Apple Software from the App Store.  For years we have worked with Microsoft and Adobe and have found their licensing (especially for our "one-off" purchases) to be quite helpful.  Each time a user requests a software title, we order it and it is put into our licensing account and is charged to our I.T. credit card.  Accounting has a clear papertrail to follow as to which department gets "billed" for the purchase and everyone is happy.
However, with Apple, and the App Store, there is no such program for the type of "one-off" purchases we do.  Sure, there is an "Enterprise" Volume Licensing solution, but the minimum purchase quantity for software licenses is 20.  Most of our requests come in as 1 - 5 copies of a software title.  So, Apple's solution to us has been to create a separate Apple ID for each purchase.  This worked OK until we got up to 5 Apple IDs on one credit card.  This led to yet another phone call to Apple and having them tell me that you can only associate 5 Apple IDs to one credit card... their solution? "Just open up a new credit card for every 5 licenses that you need".  That solution is absolutely impossible for our accounting department.  I called Apple back to see if I could talk to another business rep.  That individual informed me that the only way to get around this is to just purchase pre-paid iTunes gift cards and associate 5 Apple ID's to each one that we buy, then just keep track of them with an Excel sheet.  Again, this is an accounting nightmare.  What happens when there is money left over on a card? ($5 that is unused may seem trivial, but that ads up!)
Anyway, I'm hoping that somebody has found a decent solution to this, and I REALLY hope that Apple gets their volume licensing program together.  They boast about being ready for the corporate world, yet they still have "solutions" in place that require end users to go out and buy iTunes gift cards just to make sure they remain in software compliance????

    Oooookay...
I realized that both the iPhoto 9.3.2 and iMove9.0.7 updates are in .dmg format (disk image) up on the support downloads site.  So I downloaded them, and applied the iPhoto update (using ARD), which (supposedly) succeeded.  Then I tried the iMovie update, and I got the message:  "iMovie9.0.7Update.pkg" could not be installed.  Error message: "The version of iMovie installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store.  Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available."
Well, first of all, the iMovie update is over a GB, and no, I'm not going to go walk around to 64 machines and download 64 GBs of network traffic so that each machine can have its own personal special download of the update.  The one update.  To be repeated with every update.  That's what ARD is for!
AND the iPhoto update which supposedly succeeded didn't apparently get applied -- the App Store still shows the update as being needed, and launching the app and doing an "About" says that it's at version 9.3 (650.39).
If I were to create an apple ID for the  company, can I attach that one apple ID to all 64 of the macs that the company owns?
Is there any way to update AppStore software without an apple ID tied to the machine?  Is there some problem with App Store software licensing?  Is it legal to use the software in a business?  Is that why the software is quarantined away from these machines?  Can it only be sold to an individual employee, and if an employee attaches his/her personal apple ID to a company-owned machine is it even legal to use the software commercially?

  • When I go to update my software using the app store download, it always asks for the previous user's ID, not mine.  Please help!

When I go to update my software using the app store download, it always asks for the previous user's ID, not mine (my IT guy at school's-I am a faculty with admin priviledges).  I have signed in as me, have set the main preferences login user as me,and everywhere on the laptop I can use my apple ID except here.  It always shows me a greyed out ID of my IT.  How can I reset this to my ID? It doesn't give me an option to change the user ID, only a link to reset password.  I reset it, but it did not change the problem.  Can someone help me?

It's not an ID problem, it's an ownership problem.
When someone uses their personal Apple ID to buy and download content, the content is licensed to them and has their Apple ID engrained in it's DNA. It is an anti-piracy program. And when that personal Apple ID is used to setup a new Mac, it involves the Mac itself, the shipping OS and any pre-installed apps as well.
It's not the correct way to handle Macs that belong to a business or an institution. And had it been handled correctly they would not now be in this predictument needing a drastic remedy.

  • How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store?

How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store? So you understand better what I'm referring to:
I have the App Store icon in the Dock. When there's an update a red number appears on said icon. Well, I went to check on the updates and it's for 4 different applications I either no longer have or use. One of them is an update for Lion OS users. I'm still on Snow Leopard, so it doesn't even apply to me.
So there they sit... I'm not going to download the updates... so how do I get rid of them?

    Hi Andy ..
    no longer have or use
If there are updates available for apps you have deleted, try this.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Move the Cache.db and Updates files from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, restart your Mac.
For any apps you still have installed but do not use, the updates will still be available from the Updates top of the App Store window and show on the red badge on the App Store icon in the Dock.

i get an error return whenever i attempt to update software via the App Store as per screen shot below:
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

FYI, I got a response from this department telling me the following:
Please bear with me, Joel - being a part of the iTunes Store Customer Support, which answers nontechnical questions exclusively about billing, customer accounts, downloading purchases, and iTunes Store content, I am a bit limited on the depth of support I can provide on the tech side of things.
She went on to say, "for this issue, you need to call our AppleCare technical support team."  Because my MacBook is a couple years old, I don't qualify for free AppleCare support.  So, I'm hoping the community might still be able to help me out here.

  • How do you clear completed updates from the app store after downloading is complete?

How do you clear completed updates from the app store after downloading is complete on iOS 7.0.2?

You don't. It's how things are done now, likely to accommodate those that have auto update turned on.  IT's been said that the updates will just drop off after a period of time but  time will tell on that.
