How do FXO ports work?

I am trying to understand how FXO ports work.  I have little experience with this so I am trying to learn how it works at our office.  We have a Cisco 2801 with CME 8.1 and CUE 3.2.  The 2801 has a VIC2-4FXO card in it.  It has 3 analog phone lines attached to it and are setup in a hunt group by the carrier. There is an Auto Attendant setup that prompts a caller with various options for redirecting calls.
1. Question:  When a call comes into the Auto Attendant, I assume this ties up a single analog line.  If there is a second call into the main number it also goes to the Auto Attendant and is routed to the number or appropriate voicemail.  Would this tie up a second analog line?
2. Question: If a phone in the office is used to make an outbound call or a person in the office calling someone outside of the office at the same time as above, then would this tie up the 3rd analog line?
3. Question: If there is another person calling the AA at the same time as the previous 2 questions.  We get a busy signal.  Does this mean that all 3 analog lines are currently busy and no other call can come in or be made out due to the 3 lines being currently used?
When I run the following commands on the
router# sh voice call sum
port 0/0/0 S_Connect FXOLS_Connect
port 0/0/1 S_Connect FXOLS_Connect
port 0/0/2 S_Connect FXOLS_Connect
Also when a port is used and the caller hangs up the phone it takes between 30 and120 seconds for the call to release.  Is this normal for analog lines to take time to release in the phone system?
Are all these things normal or if I am having busy calls then do we have something configured improperly?
Thanks for any help

Hi,
As your router has 3 analog lines connected to FXO port , so at a time 3 call maximum you can receive incoming and call outgoing (if you dont have any other lines or trunk).
1. Would this tie up a second analog line?  - Yes
2. then would this tie up the 3rd analog line? - Yes
3. Does this mean that all 3 analog lines are currently busy and no other call can come in or be made out due to the 3 lines being currently used? - Yes
Now apply these two commands under voice port and then check the call release time.

  • Line polarity important for FXO ports

I spent several hours trying to get the FXO ports working on my UC320W without success until, in a moment of desperation, I reversed the polarity on the phone line I was using for testing and suddenly everything's working nicely. I've gotten spoiled with other equipment that automatically adjusts to reversed polarity - apparently that's not true for the UC320 or the 8800 units.
Just thought maybe I'd save someone else some aggravation, as I saw no mention of this as a troubleshooting step in the various materials available.

    Hi Greg,
Thank you for your comments.   Couple of additional questions.
Are you located in North America?   What type of issues were you having when the polarity was reversed?  i.e Call ID or FXO ports not answering, not able to make outbound call... etc..Your feedback is appreciated.   I'm checking with our  hardware engineers on the issue you raised.  I'm also confirming that FCC Part 68 complaince tests for fxo reverse polarity conditions. If your available I'd like to reach out to you after I receive feedback from our hardware team.

  • SPA3000 FXO to SPA2000 FXS, how to make it work?

I'd like to create an environment so I can test the dial plan of SPA3000. But when I dial throughgw0 of SPA3000 while connecting FXO to FXS of SPA2000, from SPA2000 configuration I always get Call 1 State Invalid and Call 1 Tone Reorder. It seems that SPA2000 couldn't recognize the DTMF tone sent by SPA3000. Don't know how to make it work. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

I have a SPA3102 attached thru the FXO port to the FXS port of a SPA1001.  I don't think there is anything special in the configuration.
On the PSTN Line Tab I have:
    Preferred Codec: G711u
    Use Pref Codec Only: no
    DTMF Tx Method: AVT
    VoIP-To-PSTN Gateway Enable: Yes
    VoIP Caller Auth Method: none
Line 1 VoIP Caller DP: none
    PSTN Dialing Delay: 1
    VoIP Answer Delay: 0
If you are having trouble, for troubleshooting I would run the sip debug trace on the SPA3000.  If the failure is in your line 1 dial plan you won't see anything in the trace.  If the dial plan sends the call to gw0 then you will see the sip invite for the internal call inside the adapter and you should see the FXO port go off hook.  If that looks OK you can run a trace on your SPA2000 to see the result there.  The SPA3000 Info tab will also give you troubleshooting information.  You should see the on-hook and off-hook voltage level of the SPA2000.  You may also see information about the last pstn number dialed.
On the SPA2000, you would need to have it registered with a voip provider, or else have it set to Make Call Without Reg before it will accept an incoming call from the FXS port.

  • Question - How does the Priority feature of the Send Port work?

How does the Priority feature of the Send Port work?

The Priority setting of the Transport Advanced Options controls the order in which messages are removed from the messageBox. Ports with higher priority will be processed earlier than the ports with lower prioirty making the higher priority ports more important
relative to other send ports within a single host.
    Refer:
    Send Port Priority
The highest prioirty is 1, and the lowest is 10. The default value is 5.

The other network interface is by nVidia -- the Marvel part is just the PHY for the nForce3 NI -- and the drivers should install with the nVidia driver install.  Which nVidia driver package are you using?  People have had NI trouble with the 5.11 pack - personally I use the 5.10 pack with the 4.79 IDE/SATA drivers which you should be able to find here: [urlhttp://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=19[/url].  In BIOS Setup under Integrated Peripherals, what's labeled MAC Lan(nVIDIA) is the one you want to make sure is on Auto.

  • How to check UC560 FXO Port Not Problem Question

    Dear All,
We are newbie on Cisco UC560.
Our customer use Cisco UC560, ESW-520-24P and Cisco SPA 502G and 508G for their branch office replace old traditional PBX. Cisco UC560 have built-in VIC2-4FXO and VIC2-4FXS.
Our customer PSTN line connected to UC560 FXO port (1 line PSTN).
We receive report from our customer that they cannot make a call to PSTN and receive call from PSTN that connected to UC560 FXO port (on physical FXO port LED Green turn on).  When the problem happen our customer has restart UC560 or shutdown FXO port from CLI.
We have do some test to our customer UC560.
    - Moving PSTN line to another FXO port (example: port from 0/1/0 to 0/1/1). The result is same (cannot make call to PSTN and receive call from PSTN)
Today, We have checked on our customer UC560 via show voice port summary and found that port0/1/2 and 0/1/3 OPER status is up wihout cable connected to this port.
    Our question:
    - What command on UC560 to make sure FXO port on UC560 doesn't have problem?
    We attach:
    show tech-support voice
    show tech-support
We hope you can give us information about this.
    Thanks For Your Attention

    Hi There,
If you cannot find the Indonesian "Disconnect Supervision" you may get away with using Singapores "Disconnect Supervision" as your carrier networks are similar to each other

  • How can I pass a # sign to my MGCP FXO port?

    CUCM 7.1.5 and a 2951 with IOS 15
Goal:  I need to be able to dial 50# and have that passed out the FXO port, including the # symbol.
**I cannot use and FXS card or ATA because the intercom system cannot "answer" the call.  It stays off-hook at all times.
I have an MGCP-controlled FXO port tied to an intercom system.  All I need is for the FXO port to pick up and pass "50#" down the line to the paging system.  No matter what I do, I cannot get CUCM to pass the # to the gateway, only the "50".  So the user then has to manually hit # after connecting to the paging system.  This is for emergencies so we really don't want to require them to remember this.  I have verified with CCAPI debugs that the called number does not contain a # when it arrives at the gateway.

There is a CM service parameter that controls whether CUCM will leave or strip the "#" from the called party string. By default this parameter is set to "true". Which means the "#" is stripped. Go to CM service parameters and search for 'strip'.
Note that this is a system-wide setting and could affect other call flows. You want to pay particular attention to any route patterns (or translations) where you rely/allow inter-digit timeout.

  • Issue with SPA525g registation and FXO port call calls are not disconnecting properly

    Hi,
I  have a UC540 and updated it to the latest IOS version with the latest  firmware to my phones and i am having registration problems with SPA525g  IP Phones. I updated the firmware of the phones as well and create  manual tftp bindings with but still it is not registering. I run a  couple of debugs (debug tftp events and debug ephone registration) I can  see from the logs and in the phone that it is taking the proper VLAN  and being discovered via CDP and being pointed to the TFTP server and  still wont register. I can see that it is also taking its own .cnf file  properly then the output sccp token regected invalid devices error is  shown I have a SPA502G and it is working fine. Also there is a previous  issue that all the voice port are shown as engage or offhook even the  calls are disconnected thus make the main PSTN number busy am based in  UAE and our service provider is etisalat I have check with them about  the proper disconnection values but still it the same. That's why I have  arrived in the conclusion to just update everything including the IOS  and the phones firmware. I have put my config in this post, I am also  trying to take the CCNA Voice exam on the 2nd week of april and I think  that if i don't know how fix this issue for our customer then I would  probably fail that exam. any suggestion and help is greatly appreciated  cisco experts.

Nicolo - First off this stuff gets crazy sometimes.  No worries about the exam.  Sometimes when FXO ports go crazy it is due to battery reversal.  If you go to the FXO port settings try turning battery reversal on and or off... depending on its current setting.  See if that helps.
As for the 525s not registering..  These are inside the network correct?  Are you connecting one directly to the UC500 with a Cat5E or Cat6 patch cable and the same thing happens?  Does the MAC address on the phone match a MAC address under the EPHONE settings?
If you telnet into the UC500 can you execute a "dir" command at the CLI prompt and "CD" (change directory) into the phones folder and then the spa525g folder?  Do files exist in there?
Also I only see an IP address under BVI100?  This is the voice side of things what happened to the IP address under BVI1 (Data VLAN).  Can you give us some information about the internal network?  Cna you PING this phone system from the network?  What IP address does it have?

  • Uc560 fxo port not answering incoming calls

    Hi,
My customer is facing problem for incoming calls in uc560 fxo port. They have 12 PSTN lines which is connected to UC system.System is configured with Auto-Attendant also. almost all days they are facing this major issue of incoming call is not getting answered by UC560 and caller can hear the line is ringing. While the time of this problem I can see some of the FXO port status LED is UP and not disconnecting even if no one is on call also.Once remove the cable from the FXO port and connect it back the problem will solve for time being. What will be the reason for this issue of line getting  held.Is there any configuration needs to change in FXO module? Below is the configuration I done on all 12 FXO ports. Please check and
    suggest me a solution.

    HI Paolo,
Thank you provoding the proper documentation .
On the system side I made the change by keeping companding type from a-law to u-law and enabled battery reverse. This  setting works fine for last three days and now again the customer is facing the same problem of FXO port get held and incoming calls are just ringing and system is not answering  even.
How to get proper solution for this issue????
    Please help me............
    Regards,
    Rinchuraj

  • Call disconnect on FXO port

    Hi All,
I have an issue with call disconnect on FXO port. Call are getting disconnected as soon as it connects.
I observed the call takes the port 0/20 which has the command supervisory disconnect anytone
but in other ports I see supervisory disconnect dualtone mid-call
so I have changed with the second and got it working for some calls, In the debug vpm singal debugs I see remote device releases the call.
Could you tell me how this works and what are the debugs we could check to see what is the exact problem?
    Number dialled are : 361000, 352788
Can you check? Logs and sh run is attached.
    Thanks,
    Lajith P

Beside that what you said Laith - I still think that you need specific tones for disconnect on FXO and only then your voice setup is going to work as it should. I can't comment on different version of IOS-es but maybe your previous one was better in handling this type of problem...if you don't have any specific requirement and must use 15.1 IOS you can always revert back to 15.0 and continue using your ports as already...
But if I was on your place - I would solve this problem once for all and then you don't have to worry about some upcoming new IOS

    Dragan

  • Transfer called number from FSX port SPA8000 to FXO port analog PBX.

    Hello all!
I have CUCM 8.6 which connecting with SPA8000 by SIP trunk.
FXS port SPA8000 connect to FXO port analog PBX.
When I call from CUCM to analog PBX through SPA8000, SPA8000 does not pass called number in line.
    Anybody have ideas?

Here is what I would recomend, I have set this up at several installations and it works well. The only difference would be that the ones that I have setup had more than 64K between sites but that is still doable so long as you keep the traffic on that link well regulated.
Anyhow. At each site install a VIC-2FXO and a VIC-2FXS into your 1760. You can use the higer density modules if you need more paths. Tie the FXOs to analog station ports on your PBX and the FXSs to analog CO ports. This may seem backwards but it is correct. Cisco's FXS is expecting to provide dialtone and the analog CO ports on the PBX are expecting to receive dial tone. Depending on what you are using for call processing ITS/CCME/CCM configure your gateway and your route pattern, etc. You will also need to be able to somehow access those fxs ports for outbound calls. You could have direct line access buttons on your phones and instruct users that when calling the remote site the must use lines 7 and 8 as an example. You could also setup a line pool code for these new lines.
Now when site A wants to call Site B, they dial whatever you wish them to dial. You do whatever translations you may wish prior to sending the call. Here is how the call flow works. User at site A accesses the line either by hitting a line button or dialing the line pool code. This grabs the analog line tied to one of the FXs ports on the router. The call is then sent over the 64K link. The router at Site B then uses one of the FXO ports to pass the call to an analog station port on the other PBX. To the PBX at site B it will appear as though someone pickedu picked up an analog station and dialed a local extension.
Hope this helps. If you need any further clarification on this let me know and I will try to clear it up further for you.

  • Macbook pro to HDTV, video is working but audio is not working, how to make audio work as well

Macbook pro to HDTV, video is working but audio is not working, how to make audio work as well

If you use an HDMI cable, the audiostream will be integrated, so there will be sound when using an HDMI cable!
Not necessarily.  That only works as stated if you have one of the most recent MBP's that has a built-in HDMI port.
If the MBP only has a Thunderbolt or miniDisplayPort, you need an appropriate adapter cable and even if you use an HDMI adapter or cable to connect to your HDTV there is no guarantee it will carry audio.  You have to determine if your specific MBP model supports audio out through its miniDisplayPort or Thunderbolt output, and whether the adapter does likewise.

  • How can I port my library from one pc to another?

How can I port my music library from my pc to my new windows tablet?

    theres are three ways
clicking on music in itunes, hitting control A on the keyboard to select all on the main list of all songs and then dragging them to an external hard drive. and then dragging them from the external hard drive to your other itunes computer.
im not sure if that works on windows. i know it works on mac
second way is to find the directory of itunes library  and copying that to a external hard drive and then going to your otther computer and clicking on "import library" and giving the location of the directory on the external hard drive
third way is enable home sharing on both computers , by clicking on file, librsry, turn on home sharing and entering your apple id this wil let you go to the itunes server from the other computer, let you select all songs and then import them to your library via your home network . again im not sure if this works on windows, but it does on macs
if i remember right the first way was faster. the second way would also import all your videos and movies and tv shows too
if you use the first or second methods make sure to click on file , organize library, consolodate library after the songs are copied to make sure they were actualy copied from the external drive. if the library is not organized and consolidated, thte songs will not be available if you eject the external drive

  • How do I port my Windows Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files to the MAC?  What software is needed on the MAC to use them?  Thanks.

How do I port my Windows Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files to the MAC?  What software is needed on the MAC to use them?  Thanks.

You can certainly use iWork, though I hesitate to recommend it to a seasoned Windows user simply because it would add another level of the unfamiliar with which you would have to gain familiarity. The iWork applications are certainly very competent and in most respects both easy to use and surprisingly powerful. They are not 100% compatible however, though that typically manifests itself in document formatting issues rather than anything more significant.
I have never attempted to import emails from a Windows system into MacOS - other than in Outlook connected to an Exchange server, thus not really an issue at all. I doubt that the Mail app in MacOS can import directly, but of course you could always set the account(s) up on the Mac and then forward emails you want to keep from the PC. Not elegant, but it works. Virtually any Windows document or file, whichever application created it, can be opened or converted for use on a Mac, and using both systems on my desk each day I rarely see any issues switching stuff from one machine to the other. You may stumble over one or two issues, but likely not significant.
In switching platforms there will be some inevitable issues, not so much with being able to import your stuff because there's usually a workaround or a utility that can help, but just with getting familiar with the platform and the differences between Windows and MacOS that can obscure their similarities. From time to time the support community here hears from a user who has found the migration very problematic and regrets it, but for the most part the phrase 'I should have done this years ago...' is rather more prevalent!
