How I fixed mine

Hello All,
Like many of you I had a 5 hour upgrade to iOS4. It failed over and over. It was incredibly painful. But I finally got the "upgrade" finished. It wiped out all of my application data, so I had to start all of them from scratch, but I thought I could handle that.
But then I noticed the performance. It was slooooooow. Apps were simply failing to start up. They would try to load and just crash. When texting I would be 30 letters in front of the display. I missed several calls because the phone was so slow, it couldn't display the call before it went to voicemail. I was about to tear my hair out.
Now my phone is fixed. Basically, I did a factory restore of iOS4, then restored all of my data on it. For me, I had to get a backup made before my update attempt to get all of my data back. For those lucky Windows 7 (and possibly Vista, I'm not sure), the "previous versions" feature of Windows is your friend. With iTunes closed, Browse to \Users\Yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup. I'm doing that from memory so forgive me if it's not exact. There should be at least one folder in there with tons of letters and numbers. Look at the time and date of the folder - this is when the backup was created. If that's a good date/time for your restore, you don't have to do anything. If you'd like to go back further, right click on the folder and go to properties. Hopefully you'll have a "Previous Versions" tab. You'll want to select the version you want and click "Copy" to a folder on your desktop or somewhere else. Then move the existing folder(s) in the Backup folder somewhere else. You can then get them later if you need. Put the backup you want to restore into the Backup folder. Now you're ready to take action.
Start iTunes. Before you proceed, know that your phone will be down for a while. You'll lose all your data, so anything you've done since the backup you're restoring will be destroyed. If you have pictures or something you want to keep, you'll need to manually get them off before proceeding. Once you're ready, Turn your iPhone off. Hold down the Home button, then plug it in to the sync cable. Keep holding the button down until the "Plug into iTunes" graphic appears. iTunes will pop up and say the phone needs to be restored. Go ahead and restore it. This will take it back to factory settings of iOS4. Mine took about 20 minutes. After the base firmware is loaded, it will come up in iTunes and ask you to restore. The date and time of the backup should match the folder you have waiting in the backup directory. Initiate the restore. It will take a long time, depending on how much data you have. I have about 11GB of data and mine took around 90 minutes.
If all goes well, you'll now be running iOS4 with all of the data from the backup you have, and it will be running fast like mine!

Jay, thanks for the summary.

  • Internal Muxing Error - How I Fixed Mine - FYI

FYI: I received the "internal muxing error" message during a build. I thought I'd post what happened, what I found and how I mixed mine in case it helps someone else.
I was building a project using a "project template" that I've used many many times in the past. (I just drop a new menu and new assets into an old project thats been saved without any assets). The project consisted of a menu connected to 4 tracks. Each track contains a 30 min film.
About 70% of the way through I received the "internal muxing error" and the build stopped. This was when muxing Part 3. This happened each time I re-tried the build.
To cut a long story short:
I checked the built project which was 3/4 complete. I had a look at the build log and it indicated which VOB was the last and thus which one had the problem. Oddly enough a VOB for the next track had been created.
In each track I placed 1 second of black, (a special mpeg2 and ac3 assst), at the start of the track, followed by the main asset, followed by 1 second of black again. The always worked and looked good on playback.
I traced the probelm, through some trail and error to the 1 second of black at the end of track 3. eg; removing it resulted in a clean build, putting it back resulted in the build failing.
I wanted to keep the 1 second of black at the end of the track, so I ended up trimming the video asset just enough so that it was about 1/2 second shorter than the audio asset, and adding back the 1 second of black at the end of the track.
Oddly enough, this build worked. I burnt the dvd and it was fine. Everything worked.
I really don't understand what causes the "internal muxing error" message. (I've printed some other posts and will read through them in detail when I get the chance). And I really don't understand how what I did fixed it. And as I've used this "project template" dozens of times in the past I don't understand why it suddenly failed, besides new assets everything was the same, and even the new assets were "standard", nothing new about them.
    So there it is. Weird.

    Jay, thanks for the summary.

  • Dv7 -4295us Lost It's Coolsense App? Here Is How I Fixed Mine.

    HP dv7-4295us
    Windows 7, 64 bit
After a recent HP Support Assistant (HPSA) software update, my DV7 lost the CoolSense application. This is a useful app for me because I use my laptop for a lot of number crunching, and it often stays on all day too. With CoolSense gone, my CPU temps were higher than I liked, so how to get it back?
Reading through these forums told me that other people were having the same problem, on other laptop platforms that is, after HPSA was last updated. As I thought about it, I realized the same was true for me.
A few related threads gave me the framework for the solution. But after a few false starts I realized these solutions were for other HP laptops, and not mine. So I could not follow their instructions literally.
So here is how I got my CoolSense back.
    1)      In Control Panel, Programs and Features, delete HP Software Framework. Reboot.
    2)      In Control Panel, Programs and Features, delete HP Support Assistant. Reboot.
    3)      Delete any shortcuts to CoolSense or ThermalManager in your Start Menu listings.
    4)      This is important. Go to the DV7 HP Support webpage, and download and install HP Software Framework 4.1.6.1, which is SP53546.exe. Reboot.
    5)      Go back to the DV7 HP Support webpage, and download and install HP Support Assistant 6.1.12.1, which is SP54620.exe. This version has CoolSense on it. The newer version, 7.0.39.15, that was on my laptop, does not have it.
    6)      At this point, CoolSense was back on my laptop, Hurray!
Now be sure to set up the HPSA to ask you to install updates and not automatically install them. I will skip any updates of the HPSA program itself, until HP includes CoolSense in them.
I hope this works for any of you DV7 owners having the same problem I had.

Thank you for the fix!  I rely on my CoolSense also...Cant wait to try it....God I hope the hp support site still offers that when I get there...I have dv7-6195...

  • Safari 3.2 crash - how I fixed mine

Safari 3.2 seems to crash under different conditions for different users. From what I have read, the most common conditions are:
    a) incompatible third-party add-ons (e.g. PithHelmet, AcidSearch, etc);
    b) Having the option 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website' enabled in Security panel of the Preferences.
I am using a MacBook Pro (late 2006 model). In my case, I did not have any of the third-party add-ons that were reported to be problematic. And Safari was crashing for me under two conditions:
    a) when I attempted to load any web page;
    b) immediately when I attempted to select Safari's Security panel in Preferences.
This is what I did to fix MY particular crashing problem. I edited the 'com.apple.Safari.plist' file (found in ~/Library/Preferences/) using the Property List Editor application and created the following entry in the 'Root' dictionary:
'WarnAboutFraudulentWebsites' of class 'Boolean' with the value 'No'
I saved the file, started up Safari 3.2 and it no longer crashed attempting to load a page or when selecting the Security panel in Preferences. However, if I enabled the 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website' option, Safari would crash immediately. So the problem still needs to be addressed by Apple as having this option enabled for some users is definitely a problem.
As a note, I have that option enabled on Safari 3.2 running on another Mac (a PowerBook G4) without problems.
Property List Editor is a free app and is part of the the Apple Developer Tools that comes with your Mac OS X Install Disc. Look for the 'Xcode Tools' folder and then the 'Packages' folder. The Developer Tools are installed by running the 'DeveloperTools.pkg' installer package.
    Good luck, all!

I'm afraid I can't see the purpose of not warning against fraudulant websites. Your typical "this website's certificate can't be verified" dialog box obviously is not appearing on those websites that crash your browser, but by the same token, the fact the flag being on causes the browser to crash DOES protect you from entering information in sites that are not valid, or coded in a valid way. If you believe the website to be a genuine website of the said company that is causing the browser to crash, rather than hack your web browser to be LESS secure, contact the said company by e-mail and tell them they need to read http://www.anybrowser.org/ on coding more secure websites that also work well with Safari. Consider the crash a feature of security that just simply has gone a little overboard in protecting you. But at least it does protect you. Granted, it is inconvenient if you failed to bookmark other websites while the browser was open, but you can always reopen the web browser and browse the history to add those bookmarks you need.

  • How I fixed my iTunes 7 / Nano 1.2 problem.

Like so many of you, I too lost the ability to connect my 4gb Nano to my iTunes when I upgraded to v7. Of course, Apple hasn't figured this out yet, but several here have.
Here is how I fixed mine. Once you connect the Nano (after the firmware upgrade), iTunes 7 reports it as corrupt and in need of a restore. The problem is that it won't. Try the following to fix the problem:
(note: this will reset your Nano entirely, and you WILL lose any music which is loaded on it. You will not lose whatever you have in iTunes).
    1. Unplug the Nano USB cable and perform a reset on the Nano.
    2. Restart your computer to ensure all services are running correctly.
    3. Once restarted, open My Computer and plug in your Nano. Wait until it show's up as a disk drive (this can take several minutes).
    4. Right-click on the drive which represents the Nano and wait again (up to several minutes) for the menu to pop up.
    5. Select Format and (you guessed it) wait for the format utility to appear.
    6. Make sure the File System is set to FAT32 then click Start. Do not click Quick Format. Wait some more (up to ten minutes. You'll see the progress bar move after a while).
    7. Once finished, the Nano should now be recognized by iTunes. If it isn't, unplug it, wait a minute and replug it.
BTW, this retains the 1.2 firmware. I think the 1.2 firmware is incompatible with the data which written by previous versions. The format clears this data out.
    As always, YMMV.
    Good Luck,

I was having trouble seeing my Nano 2nd in iTunes and was afraid to do this step; but it works. My Nano was updated to version 1.1.1 and now everything seems to work perfectly. Keep in mind you will lose everything that is stored on your Nano when you format it.

  • HOW TO FIX YOUR BLACKBERRY: DEVICE SOFTWARE REINSTALLMENT.

All your phone truly needs is its software updating. I believe that sometimes certain software versions just stop working or become incompatible in some way or another because they are too 'old',  and this incompatibility particularly affects Blackberry Messenger or receiving incoming emails. I worked out how to fix my own Blackberry Curve 8520, without having to ask anyone for help, particularly my carrier service (Orange - as I believe that they are as clueless as we are!). In short terms, you need to replace your device's software completely, and this may take a while, but it is definitely worth it!
This is how I fixed mine :
    1) Have your USB lead ready to connect your phone to your laptop, or Mac (but do not connect your phone via the USB to the laptop until after step 3.)
    2) In order to manually reinstall the latest software - even if you have the latest software, this shall work - you have to download the 'Desktop For Blackberry' program onto your laptop, or Mac. Click the following link in order to download and install this program -
    http://www.us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/ -
(for laptops only, to download this program for Macs, go to the blackberry website and find the program, it gives you the link for Mac download separately).
    3) Ensure that you have fully installed the 'Desktop For Blackberry' program on your laptop, or Mac, and then proceed to set up your phone with this program by connecting your phone to your laptop, or Mac, via the USB cable. It should then prompt you to enter your devices security password. From here, you should be able to access your phone via your laptop.
    4) Once 'Desktop For Blackberry' is fully set up and synced with your Blackberry device, the next major step is to install the latest software update for your device (even if you have the latest software, reinstalling it should work). Follow the following link in order to download the latest software version via 'Desktop For Blackberry' -
     http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/devices/
    - (If you are viewing this message a few weeks or months later, when you follow this link, ensure that this is the LATEST software available. If it isn't, the latest software shall be on the left of the screen when the link is clicked on.)
This should, again, prompt you to enter your device security password on 'Desktop For Blackberry', and then follow the next few steps to fully install the latest software onto your Blackberry Device.
NB; DO NOT DISCONNECT OR LET YOUR LAPTOP, OR MAC, LOSE POWER DURING THIS PROCESS, OTHERWISE THIS MAY LRENDER YOUR DEVICE COMPLETELY DISABLED.
NB2; THIS PROCESS IS NOT A QUICK FIXX, IT MAY TAKE UP TO AN HOUR, OR MORE, FOR THE PROCESS TO COMPLETE ITSELF.
LET ME KNOW IF THIS WORKS, KUDOS PLEASE AND LEAVE ANY COMMENTS OR QUERIES !!

  • Whenever I try to use my macbook, it will work for about 10 min. then the screen will go black, the computer will not respond to my commands, and I have to restart it. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and how to fix it? Thank you!!!

Hello everyone, like most people on this site, I am having difficulties understanding and fixing my Macbook Pro. About a month ago my computer screen went black, the computer was unresponsive, and it started making a beeping noise. I restarted the computer, and it seemed to have fixed itself. 6 days ago, I put my laptop into it's case with some papers, went home (about 30 min. after putting laptop into case), and opened my bag. My computer's fans were on, the computer was really hot, and when I opened the computer, the screen was black and unresponsive. I turned it off, let it cool down, turned it back on, started to stream a video on Hulu, and about ten minutes after, the screen went black again and the computer was unresponsive. Now everytime I turn it on after about ten to fifteen minutes the screen will go black, the computer will become unresponsive, and I have to shut it off. The weird thing though is that everytime I restart my computer, when I reopen my account, my computer acts as if nothing has happened, and everything I had opened or unsaved is still there without autosave saving the documents. The screen also goes black and the computer becomes unresposive when I move the computer around. I get a lot of pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet. I don't know if one of those pop-up websites might have given me a virus or may be the cause of this problem. I don't now what is wrong with my computer or how to fix it, but if anyone has any advice, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!
-- Sincerely, A very confused, scared, and hopless Macbok Owner

To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

How to fix authentic error in game centre of iPad mini?

Following further research, this keyboard lag issue appears to be related to the (botched) iOS 7.1 update. It's good to know I am not the only user who had his iPad mini rendered unusuable by the iOS 7.1 update, however that does not solve my problem.
Anyone out there who has further suggestions (except doing a factory reset via iTunes)?

    Resolved!
After contacting Apple, I received a reply from their engineers:
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    And that did the trick.

I had this same problem with what's app.  There is a new update for the app on the app store which is compatible with ios8.  Update the app, or delete it and re-add it.  I found a lot of apps weren't compliant with ios8, but after updating everything worked fine.
