After 30 minutes listening a dvd, my satellite A100-768 is getting slow and the CPU temperature (Speed fan) is around 86 degres... the fan does not start. If I blow into the extract system, DVD start again. How can I check my fan ??

Could you please explain what do you want to check on the fan???
If there is something wrong, the notebook must be opened to check the hardware!
But if you will do it by yourself, you will lose the warranty coverage.
Therefore I dont recommend opening the notebook or removing any covers!!
Contact the ASP and explain him the situation with the cooling modules

No - there's no software which can tell whether the GPS antenna is working or not. Within Maps v2 in the bottom right hand corner there is an indicator which will let you know once it has obtained a satellite lock - but not whether the actual hardware is working or not.
Having said that I have never come across any instances where the GPS antenna has not worked on a phone. What phone do you have ?
You should definitely have got a lock after 3 hours !
It is definitely worth checking your settings. Make sure you quit Maps before doing this.
Goto the menu, click Tools then Settings.
Then click General and choose Positioning.
Within here click Positioning methods.
Ensure the options below are ticked :
- Assisted GPS
- Integrated GPS
- Network based
However please be aware that for Assisted GPS and network based, your network operators will charge you for any data transmitted.
Then load Maps again and give it some time to get a lock.

LiveCycle ES2 (and LiveCycle ES) ship with three undersold and unadvertised web applications that are VERY useful. Each is referred to as an Installation Verification Sample (or IVS) but they are great testing tools you can use during development and QA. There is
1) Assembler IVS,
2) Forms IVS, and
3) Output IVS

The pattern for deploying and using all three IVSs is very similar as what I am about to describe for Output IVS. The following directions apply to the JBoss turnkey on Windows.
1) go to C:\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle ES2\deploy and locate adobe-output-ivs-jboss.ear
2) copy adobe-output-ivs-jboss.ear to C:\Adobe\Adobe LiveCycle ES2\jboss\server\lc_turnkey\deploy
3) if necessary, start LiveCycle
4) open a browser and go to http://localhost:8080/OutputIVS/
5) click Check/Change your preferences
6) add Admin Credentials
7) click Save
8) click Test your form designs

How to check if my SuperDuper backup works?

After reading that not all external HDDs guarantee the necessary compatibility with SL in case of total system recovery from an external backup, I would like to test mine. Is there a procedure around that explains how to do this check without putting the actual installation at risk?

I rarely restore from SD, but I do boot from it, and run disk repairs from there.
I've been using SD a lot yesterday and now today, before during and after an OS update. Works great.
Some people have had trouble with USB case; or where the partition table wasn't set to GUID when the drive was formatted; and, Ignore Ownership sometimes is still selected on an external (always good to check, and once clone is made first time, insure by running repair permissions; I'd also run Repair Disk with DU and Disk Warrior).
As for testing restore, well, restore to a spare test drive if possible, harder to do if you only have one good port (and USB2 is way too slow, USB3 will be a huge performance boost). FW400/800 for now is preferable for a full restore.
Once you make SD backup, then smart updates should only take 15 minutes or so; and a great alternative addition to your TimeMachine. Having a bootable backup is handy and only really needs to be done 'as needed' like before an update, and when the system is in good working order (never update when you are having trouble).
I keep a small 30GB (could be less) Apple-only system on a partition on same drive as TimeMachine (1.5TB so room to slice out 30GB) so I can also boot from the drive. And 1.5TB has hit the magic $99. Room for a clone volume and another partition for T/M.

Way to check if both fans are working?

I know one fan works, as I can hear it on the left side. But the other... I don't think I've ever heard it come on. Is there any way to check?

I'm not sure where everyone gets the idea that the left fan is always on. I've operated my MBP with the keyboard propped up, and observe that the left fan is not always on, and that when the fans do turn on, they turn (and off) together. It's likely the hard drive that you're hearing on the left, it's much louder than the fans spinning at low rpm.
So, if you just run the Apple Hardware Test on the DVD disk 1 that comes with the MBP, it'll test the fans and you can hear them turn on.

How to check if Airport Express is working

Hi -
My setup is like this DSL->Extreme BaseStation->Hardwired to PC and wireless to PB G4. I used PB's airport utility app to create a WDS and made express to "extend the range of existing base station"; chose my base station name etc. I named the network xxx_express. I plugged-in express in the 2nd floor. It turned on to green. From my airport utility app on my PB, I am able to see both my base station and express. From my itunes, only place it shows is on the lower right corner with a speaker icon where I could see xxx_express. So far, I haven't connected to any speakers or anything.
Here are the questions:
(1) In my PB I don't see "xxx_express" as a valid SSID and I see only base station - is this how it is supposed to look?
(2) How do I know that the new express is really extending my range? Want to make sure that my $$$ are paying back!!!!
(3) Is there any menu option for configuring Express via iTunes.

1. the SSID applies to the existing network you are connecting the express to, not the express itself.

Q9550 Processor
8 GB RAM
IPIEL-LA3 Motherboard

My original processor cooling fan stopped working recently and I chose to replace with a better heatsink while I was at it. I used a Cooler Master Gemini II M4 because it was the only increased capacity cooler that would fit in my current case.
After install, I got the "Error: CPU fan has failed, computer will now shut down to prevent damage to CPU. Etc..."
My guess is the motherboard doesn't like the new fan that came with the new heat sink. The fan is larger and I'm sure spins at a lower RPM than the stock fan. I checked my BIOS settings and do NOT have the "Hardware Monitor" section under the "Advanced" tab. My BIOS is at a newer level than what the HP site will provide for updates (mine is:
BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. 5.09, 8/19/2009).
Is there another way to change the RPM fan speed settings to avoid the error at boot other than in the BIOS?
I am able to boot the computer by using a similar sized 4-pin fan plugged into the motherboard while the proper sized fan (actually mounted to the heatsink) is unplugged. Even with no fan, the new heatsink is keeping the processor at 45 C or lower across all 4 cores under medium load.
I suppose I could always leave this small fan plugged in to the motherboard for the BIOS to be happy and power the CPU fan off of molex power (along with an additional case fan). This would be a last option as I would rather know if my CPU fan isn't working...
Any and all help is very appreciated, thank you!

I understand that your new fan is not detected as working properly by BIOS. The BIOS doesn't provide all that many options to control functions such as fan speed and there isn't a way to access this feature to the best of my knowledge. I am afraid that the workaround you mentioned might be your only option with the existing fan without access to this setting in BIOS.
You mentioned you connected a similar sized fan to bypass the error. Does the fan have a higher RPM than the fan sitting on top of the heat sink? Reviewing the images located here, it looks like the fan is detachable and could be replaced with the fan that works with the BIOS. This is provided that the fan that gets past BIOS will fit the heat sink.

Some strange things have been happening since my MBP (2009, SSD, 8GB, 17") was updated to Lion:
1. Icon images load slower than usual, e.g when opening the applications folder the images take a fraction longer than would be normal
2. If re-naming a folder, you see the new title, then the old one, then it switched back to the new one.
3. When playing HD video, or rapid desktop switching the picture looks split in two.
I checked that my GPU was on dedicated, but it had changed back to Intel integrated? Then a re-start and I checked it was on dedicated GPU, which it was BUT the above problems still remain.
Plugged in a 24" LED Display via display port and it does not come on - only the USB ports work. Does a display need a dedicated GPU to work?
Zapped Parameter Ram, rebuild permissions, and reset SMC all to no avail. Techtools pro 6.0 finds both cards but can't check them. I assume its not Lion compatible yet?
MBP is still under Apple Care, but I want to know if I can identify the problem is the NVIDA GPU. But how?

Please check the navigation bar profile from your business role.
Then go to the navigation bar profile settings, you can find the details settings there.
If it is a link under some work center, you need to start from the work center.
If it is a direct link, then start from the derect link group.
