How to clear planned depreciation amount

We had a purchase order that was incorrectly coded to post to an asset account, instead of an AUC, so when invoice receipt was processed, the asset was posted with the value.
This asset was capitalized in Aug 2006 (although the first depreciation was not run until Nov 2006).  It had a useful life of one year.  So, when the invoice receipt was posted in August 2007, the net book value of the asset was zero and there were no future planned depreciation amounts (the first depreciation run posted 4 months worth of depreciation amount).
In Asset Explorer, the posting from the invoice receipt (MIRO) showed 'Ord Depr' as $73k, but when we reversed the invoice (using MR8M), this posting showed 'Ord Depr' as $121k.   The difference is $48k and the system is showing this as the Planned Net Book Value.   This is causing the asset to have 'planned depreciation amounts' for the next few months, even though the Posted NEt Book Value is zero.
Why does the invoice reversal showing a different Ord Depr amount from the original invoice (both have the same document date and posting date)?   And how do we clear out the $48k?
thank you,
Lanny

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the answer.   Yes, I can see from the period in depreciation key why the system is calculating the $121k when we reversed the invoice.    I think the question now is how do we fix this so the asset will not have the 'planned' depreciation amount?   I changed the value in Expired Useful Life in the asset depreciation areas so that all 12 months of the asset life has expired.  I then use AFAR to recalculate depreciation, but nothing happens.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

These values are calculated during the deprieciation run.

  • Adjust the depreciation amount in posted period

    Hi Experts,
I've changed one of my asset depreciation key from 20% to 10% straight line method. The changes is done in period 6. I have run AFAR for this changes.
Let say my planned depreciation was 1000 (for 20% dep. key) and now the new depreciation would be 500 (for 10% dep key). I would like the depreciation to be recalculate in period 1 (i.e 1000 minus 500) and distribute the amount evenly throughout the period (period 1 to 6). Is it possible?
I've run AFAB in planned mode and the changes (lump sum) will only take places on next period (period 7). When i execute AFAB in restart mode (period 1), the error says restart is not possible for period 1.
    Appreciate your advise.

    Hi Nana,
Have a look also at KBA 1534331 - RAPOST2000 - How to post 'planned depreciation' for
subsequent posting or depreciation change in same period
This knowledge base article describes the situation how the system will pick up the depreciation adjustment when a change in depreciation terms (e.g. change of depreciation key) has been made.
As Mukthar is pointing out, if you have run depreciation already (ordinary planned depreciation run in AFAB), and afterwards you make a change, you can start a repeat run for that very same period again and it will adjust the value equally to all periods going forward.
You find in this KBA also an attachment which outlines an example.
I hope this helps further in understanding how depreciation is adjusted after a change of depreciation terms.
    Best regards,
    Brigitte

  • Prior year planned depreciation never posted. How to post in current year?

    Hi Experts,
Planned Depreciation was not posted in 2010. Is it possible to post that in 2011? What all steps are required?
When I execute AW01N for the asset in question, system gives error "Message # AA669 - Fiscal year 2010 is already closed in Financial Accounting.
I checked OAAR the last closed fiscal year is 2009.
I executed AFAB in 'Test Mode' for Period 12, 2010, system gives error message "Period 12 is already posted".
    Your inputs will be appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Rachana

    Dear Rachana
The long text of error AA669 is very clear about the root cause of the
    error.
The idea behind the message: it is not allowed to close first general
ledger before subleger. This leads to inconsistencies. It is common
accounting principle to always close the subledgers first and only
then close the general ledger (FI-GL).
The solution is: re-open fiscal year in FI-GL (txn OB52) and follow the
    steps from note 619969.
    o  RAAFAR00
    o  RAPOST2000
    o  RAPERB2000
    o  RAJABS00
If it is not possible to open the fiscal year because audit has already
been completed: workaround (which is not quite correct from the legal
point of view) is the report RACORR20_A from note 29694.

  • How to find Planned ordinary depreciation ?

    Dear all,
how to find Planned ordinary depreciation for past, present and future period in which last depreciation was posted
i know the planned ordicary depreciation is NALC-NAFAG.but it only give me the current value which the last depreciation was posted. how should i find previous or future value for it? like how we manage to get at T-code AW01,current book value.
    Thanks

    Hi Joan,
You can get the ordinary depreciation for all the years(past, present and future) from ANLC table.
Go to ANLC table, give the company code, asset number and the depreciation area, then you will get the ordinary depreciation values from ANLC-KNAFA for all the years posted.
    Reward ponits if found useful..!

  • Planned Depreciation Changed - Recalculation of Depreciation

When we are displaying any asset through AS03 system shows message " value of Ordinary deprec. have changed in dep. area 01 in fiscal year 2009 for all the assets.
If we click on the message system shows following diagnosis
Values for Ordinary deprec. have changed in dep. area 01 in fiscal year 2009Message no. AU390
    Diagnosis
Depreciation terms were changed in depreciation area 01 since the last time depreciation was recalculated. The values for Ordinary deprec. that were saved in the database in fiscal year 2009 are therefore different from the newly calculated values by an amount of                                               22.33-.
    Procedure
Check if the newly calculated values are correct. If they are, then carry out a depreciation recalculation. You should be aware that if you recalculate depreciation, new values could arise for all open fiscal years, and these would then have to be posted to the general ledger by means of a depreciation posting run.
If, on the other hand, you want to keep the values that are saved in the database, you have to set the depreciation terms back to how they were at the time of the last depreciation recalculation.
To see a comparison of the old and new values, you can use the Display dep. calc. function in the asset value display or the Recalculate values function in the Asset Accounting menu.
                Proceed
And if we click on  Proceed  system take us to transaction recalculation of depreciation (t-code AFAR).
As per the diagnosis given in the message depreciation is recalculated whereas we have not run recalculation of depreciation (AFAR) but we have changed the useful life of Asset Class 2260 & 2265 from 12 to 10 years. and transferred few assets within company code by transaction code ABUMN.  Is this happening because of that ?.
We are surprised that till last depreciation run (period 5) business were not getting any such type of message and from period 5 onward system started showing this message.
I was just checking planned depreciation for F.Y. 2009 of few assets and found that depreciation is not calculating properly.
I have run AFAR in test mode and taken list of recalculated assets and also checked the recalculated depreciation manually and found that depreciation is calculated properly. Now we want to run AFAR in final mode but before moving ahead we want take concern from asset expert that we are going on right track or which another steps to be taken to resolve the same.
One more thing I have noticed that if we run AFAR from F.Y. 2008 in test mode when F.Y. 2008 is closed system shows message  "Error in Dep. Calculation"  for all the assets related to F.Y. 2008 and before and when we open F.Y. 2008 and run AFAR again in test mode then system shows message   "Error in Dep. Calculation" only few AUC assets.

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for quick response.
I have ran AFAR in test mode in F.Y. 2009 when F.Y. 2008 is closed and checked that deprecation is calculating properly but the assets pertaining to F.Y. 2008 and there before are showing in error "Error in Dep. Calculation. I have ran AFAR in testing box by opening F.Y. 2008 and seen that system is not showing any error.
Now my question is, if i will open F.Y. 2008 in production system and run AFAR and repeat deprecation run for recent period what will be the impact in last F.Y. 2008.
    Thanks,
    Vishwa Dikondwar

  • How do you run depreciation for a Particular range of assets??

    Dear Gurus,
Assets is a fairly new area for me – I have created several new ASSETS in one of our company codes.
I have now been asked to RUN DEPRECIATION.
Please can you kindly let me know (Step by Step Instructions) on How to Run Depreciation for an Asset via a particular co-code?
    Your help is much appreciated.
    Thanks
    RICK

    Hi,
If you have completed all depreciation related configs,
then, you can use T Code AFAB, there, give the following parameters,
Company code, Fiscal year, posting period, click on the planned depreciation run, and give the range of main / sub asset numbers in the bottom parameters for test run.
And execute, it will post the depreciation if it is not posting, then it will give you the error log.
While running actual run, it is advised to run in backround.
    Hope it clears you doubt.
    Regards
    A.Saravanan.

  • WHAT IS THE DIFFRENCE BET WENN PLANNED DEPRECIATION AND UNPLANNED DEPRECIAT

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PLANNED DEPRECIATION AND UNPLANNED DEPRECIATION

    Hi
Usually depreciatio is planned for all the assets from the date of purchase of the asset based on cost of asset, useful life of asset, scrap value , etc.
In Planned depreciation we depreciate the asset as per our planned figures for the entire life of the asset
where as in unplanned depreciation, depreciation is not as per our planned figures, it may vary due to fire, theft, partial damage, etc.
Here not only the depreciation amount but also the useful life of the asset will be effected.

  • How to clear UNB table in the payroll result?

    Hi,
We are getting the payroll error- The gross wages do not cover the negative offset that has been forwarded. Therefore, no gross up is permitted while running the Grossup.
I see the below table "UNB table" in the last payroll result. "UNB - Unbalance table used for tax retrocalculation" .
I think we are getting the above error because of this UNB table, can anyone help me to how to clear this table?
When we run the regular payroll, no tax is being deducted.
    Please help
    Saurabh

    Hi Arti,
    Thanks for your reply!!..
Seeing your reply, it gives me bit confidence to crack the existing problem, however, I'm still not clear with your answer... let me explain you the problem-
    1. Employee was given 350,000 though Taxable Bonus WT with regular pay check
    2. Later it came to know- out of the above amount, 75000 was Grossup amount
    3. So in next payroll run, they entered -75000/- in regular Taxable bonus WT and +75000 in Grossup WT and also they deleted one IT210 record of GA tax authority which was wrongly created; and ran the payroll
    4. Since then, in next payroll period- No tax is being deducted, so we are creating IT221 infotypes with Tax wagetype
    5. If we are running the Grossup wage, payroll error- The gross wages do not cover the negative offset that has been forwarded; therefore, no grossup is permitted.
While running the regular payroll, overpayment Wagetype is being generated.
Now, I saw this UNB table is created and the below wagetype are there in the UNB table-
    WT /5UT amount 0.00
    WT 5430 amount -75000
    WT 0200 amount 12500 ( Monthly salary)
    WT 4530 amount 350000
Now I am thinking, if we are deducting tax through IT221,if we clear this UNB table, our problem might get resolved
It will be a great help for me if you can tell-
    1. how to check, claims process is implemented or not?

  • Incorrect Planned Depreciation after posting unplanned depreciation

    Hello Everyone,
We have encountered a case whereas an asset acquired in April 2008 with 5 years useful life was planned to be fully depreciated in period 2 of 2009. Below are the details and postings done:
    1 - NBV -> 1,056,143.00
    2 - Posted Write-up -> 18,054.00
3 - Posted Unplanned depreciation -> 1,038,992.23- (the system actually issued that only the amount of 835,445 can be posted as unplanned dep. In order to bypass this, user changed the dep key to MANU then changing it back after the unplanned posting)
    4 - Posted Ordinary Dep for Period 1 of 2009 -> 19,892
    5 - Planned Ordinary Dep for Period 2 of 2009 -> 15,312.77-
Once the amount of 15,312.77 is posted, the asset will have Zero NBV.
*My question is: Why did the system posted the 15,312.77 in period 2 only and not spread the amount until 2013 since the asset's useful life is for 5 years (until 2013).
We have tried recalculation of values and the planned depreciation remains the same for period 2.
    Hope someone can help.
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Cholo

    Hello Vinod,
Period control is 004 which is configured in AFAMP having 01 - Pro rata at period start date for Acquisition, Acquisition in the following year, Retirement and trasfer. Does it have anything to do with the start of depreciation?
Also, when we adjust the ord dep start date to < April 26, the original planned depreciation is not affected for the current FY but only the next FY and moving forward.
    For example:
Asset worth 12,000 to be depreciated in 10 years
1 - Alrready in period 3 and 200 has been posted
    2 - Posted unplanned dep of 800
3 - Total planned dep for this year did not change (1,200)
    4 - System calculated for current year depreciation 1200 (planned) + 800 (unplanned) = 2000
    5 - And for the next years 12,000 - 2,000 = 10,000 / 9 years
    Should it not be that that 12,000 - 1,000 (200 planned + 800 unplanned) = 11,000 / 9 years and 9 months?
It seems that the unplanned depreciation affected the depreciation computation of the asset only in the next FY.

    Hi Diwakarnd,
You can use any of the following reports to get the information you require.
    1. <b>S_ALR_87013557</b> - Budget/Actual/Variance
    2. <b>S_ALR_87013558</b> - Budget/Actual/Commitment/Rem Plan/Assigned
    3. <b>S_ALR_87013559</b> - Budget/Distributed/Plan/Distributed
Some of these reports use a complex selection criteria from various tables which has been grouped together, logically by SAP. The Logical Database table name for PS is <b>PSJ</b>.
    Execute transaction code <b>SE36</b> -> <b>PSJ</b> -> (Subobject : Radio button <b>Structure)</b> -> Click on <b>Display</b>.
You would see all the underlining tables used.
    I hope the above helps.
