How to Get Help Quickly

This is a user-to-user forum. Unless you see EMPLOYEE under a screen name, you should assume the poster is an upaid volunteer. Everyone's time is valuable, including yours. The following tips will help you get answers more quickly:
DO
Check the Dreamweaver FAQ. The answer to your question might already be there.
Give your post a meaningful subject line, indicating of the nature of the problem.
Give sufficient details (such as operating system, browser, hardware platform, and other relevant information) for others to understand the nature of the problem, but don't go overboard. Short, focused questions tend to get answered more quickly.
If your problem concerns a web page that doesn't display as expected, upload the page to a public website and give the URL. But don't post links to anything you don't want indexed by a search engine. Create a test folder on the site, and remove the page when the problem has been solved.
Give details of any error messages.
Say briefly what you have done to try to solve the problem yourself.
If your question involves a database or server-side technology, such as PHP, ColdFusion, or ASP, say which one, and include it in the subject line.
DON'T
Don't post a series of questions in a single post. Splitting them into separate threads increases your chances of a quick answer.
Don't repeat the same question in different forums, as this makes it harder for both you and those trying to help you to keep track of progress. Duplicate posts will be deleted.
When someone has answered your question, don't start asking more questions in the same thread. Keeping threads separate with clear subject lines makes it easier for others who might have the same problem to find the information they need.
Don't be impatient. If you don't get an answer in 24 hours, post a follow-up question in the same thread, asking if you need to give more details. The lack of replies might also indicate that no one else knows the answer.\
Don't hijack existing topics by replying with unrelated questions or suggestions. Start a new discussion thread so your question stands out.
When your question has been answered
If you started the thread, buttons like those in the following screenshot will appear at the bottom of each reply. Use these buttons to indicate that you have been helped or that you have received a satisfactory answer. You can choose up to two answers as "helpful" and one as "correct". Once selected, you cannot change your mind. Marking answers like this helps others identify solutions to their own problems.

Part of the reason this thread is in here is because when I tried to add it to the FAQ section earlier yesterday the system kept throwing an error at me. I finally managed to get it posted in there later; this thread is the result of experimentation.

    I downloaded the free app "Bakery Story" without realizing it was an app that allowed the user (in this case, my child) to run up a bill very quickly with in-app purchases (using my real money instead of the play money within the game). As soon as I received the statement from Apple about these unexpected purchases, I enabled the parental controls that block purchases from within apps like this. I am trying to use Apple website to find the rightbplace to request a refund on those purchases, but I only get so far with the express lane before I get a "server not responding" message.     Premiere Pro audio slips out of sync, though it does not occur in Sony Vegas or in Lightworks with the same footage. Strangely, this is not only with the audio from within the video (.mts) file, but also from the audio I record separately and sync up in post. The frame rate and everything is, according to the sequence settings, accurately detected.
    Running my file through Handbrake is a workaround that I'm not willing to use. I've set my workflow (capture) so that this should be unnecessary, and indeed it is unnecessary . . . except for within Premiere Pro. Using Media Encoder to output an intermediate file doesn't work either; the audio still slips out of sync.
    Yes, I've already posted in the Premiere Pro forum, with no replies, but this is a bigger CC issue because the only way I'll give CC a try is with my 1 year $29.~ offer (as a CS user), which expires on the 30th. After that, I'll never give Adobe another look.

    It Always Pays to be Polite
    People will want to help you more if you are polite, with no swearing or hate speech. We all get annoyed from time to time, and some get annoyed more than others. We understand that the product you're paying for isn't working, but screaming, shouting and swearing about it won't help. Be polite, and help will come.
    Always Pack as Much Information in as Possible
    Often I am trying to help others, and there is just not enough info posted for me to help them well. This slows down the support they can get, which makes them further annoyed. To solve this issue post as much info as you possibly can:
    Any error messages
    A description of what is happening
    What have you tried to do to fix it
    What happened when you tried to fix it

    Don't Post Personal Info
    Almost every day I have to report a post for containing an email address, telephone number and sometimes even the users home address. Apart from being against the community guidelines, this is rather stupid. These forums are public, and any person, bot, stalker or alien entity can see it. So just don't post them - it would save everyone's time ;)

    If you have 11,000 songs in a Spotify playlist (not as local files you own) you won't be able to mark them all to be available offline, since Spotify limits each device to 3,333 offline stored tracks due to licensing restrictions.

    Hello there!  
    I wanted to get an advice on how to get in touch with the appropriate person at BT that could help with my situation.
    I have tried telephone help, complaints by email and unfortunately still waiting for somebody from the customer services to help me out.
    I have recently moved home.  I contacted BT on 26th June to organise the line transfer to the new address. The date was set for 18th July. I also ordered line rental saver and paid for it over the phone. All went smooth, telephone and broadband was working fine at the new place, but on the 23rd July I was sent an email that "BT is sorry that I am leaving". 
    I thought it was a mistake, but the lady in the on-line chat said somebody stopped my service. Later she rang and left a message saying that I must have requested to move to another provider. Did not manage to speak to her again, but phoned the help line this time.
    There a gentleman was trying to convince me that I called BT and cancelled my service on the 18th July and to him I was not a BT customer anymore. The truth is that I did not request to stop my service, anyway - why would I do that after paying for a year in advance. This has no logic, but because computer says so then he thinks I did it.
    He also added that my account is a 'mess'. He then promised that somebody would get in touch to sort it out as my line rental was gone and my phone and internet could go off any minute.
    I did not get any help. After that I wrote to them  3 email complaints to request assistance. They called and aknowledge they will help, but 3 weeks down the line nothing was done to explain the situation. Left the messages to the person from email complaints to ring me or email me -never happened.
    Last week I got 2 emails welcoming me to BT and outlining the call plans that were diferent from each other and the one I agreed to on the 25th June. When I called help line 2 days ago a lady confirmed on which one I am on, but could not sort out the most annoying thing - the 'final' bill. 
    I was sent a bill for over 200 pounds due to premature termination of phone and broadband service , which I never ordered. They already took the money this week. My line saver is gone as well. So I am 360 pounds short. I aslo have no access to myBT to monitor my phone activity or make orders.They also did not send any confrimation of the call plan I am currently on.
    It is a very annoying situation, because somebody at BT made an error and I am unable to get to anybody that could help. Everytime you call the help line you speak to somebody else and despite me thinking the email complaints would be the way forward they are not. Would appreciate some advice on how to tackle these issues: false accusations from them, inappropriate billing, problem with myBT.

    I set the quick link for a iview, the iview has the Launch in new windows property set to 'Launch in a separated headless portal window', However when I run this iview's  quick link URL, it always open in a portal content area with all the header and navigation bar beside. How can do to have the quick link open in a headerless windows. Thanks.

    seems this is still not solved, even in 7.4 portal.
    Maybe some other Portal Admins out there have an idea?
    Everyone can reproduce the issue like this:
    Make an URL iview pointing to http://www.google.com
    Set Quicklink to  google  ( so it will be /irj/portal/google  )
    Set Launch in new window: "Open in separate window".
    Add the iView to a role you have.
    Test:
    Call the iview from the navigation inside portal. Effekt: The browser opens a new window and shows http://www.google.com  . So this works as expected.
    Call the quicklink  <yourportal>/irj/portal/google . The portal tries to launch the http://www.google.com inside the content area. In this case I get the error message that "Content cannot be displayed in a frame"
    I think a lot of Portal admins would like to get this working as they could use Quicklinks more heavily.
    Question to SAP: Is this intended behaviour ?

  • How to get help from Apple?

    So, I've never really taken time to ask Apple much directly (except where I had to explain that yes indeed an early 2011 Macbook pro was offered with Hi-Res, and I paid for it, and the Apple store foobarred it, but after weeks, it's fixed), not since I left a school system of supporting thousands of Apple/Mac products on my own, where every so often I would ask the engineer that came out every few months.
    Anyway, I've used the great "submission" tools for issues / bugs found to provide Apple with info, but they NEVER write back to follow up. Anyway, I have fully documented bugs to submit, but NO way to get a response, is there some magic bullet or pill we have to take to get a response? 
    Very strange that you can't get in touch with a company looking to fix bugs in their own product and for free!
    I submit bugs to all kinds of other folks, and get things resolved, just odd.

    They will never reply unless they actually require some more information from you.
    You can register as a developer for free if you just register for the basic level. But this will let you report bugs. Have you tried it?

  • TV Show download doesn't play - how to get help

    Hi,
    If anyone can offer advice it would be great - iTunes 9.2 on a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.4. I purchased Iron Man: Extremis motion comic and the 6th episode will not play. No video or audio. So I tried to report the problem as stated in the support docs (Store menu -> View my Account -> Purchase History ->Report Problem -> click the Report a problem link on the item that doesn't work).
    The problem is that instead of getting the form to report the issue iTunes just opens my browser to the iTunes support page. I never get the form to fill out. How the can I report an issue with this behaviour preventing me from ever seeing the form.
    Anyone suggest what I should do next? Thanks!

    On the itunes support page and select the heading that most fits you situation until you see the "E-mail us" button.

  • Yoga disintegrates when case screws loosen: an analysis and how to get help?

    My Yoga 13 physically fell apart after just 18 months of quiet, academic use. I'm trying to have it repaired with the extended credit card company policy -- but I'm afraid Lenovo will block my attempt based on what appears to be a not uncommon response to these complaints: the warranty does not cover abuse. A warranty claim must imply a measure of culpability on the manufacturer.
    So, I will try to document here why the Lenovo Yoga hinge design is a case of corporate hubris that have allowed some basic engineering principles to be violated. These are strong words but I believe I can back them up.
    I'll hope that this will get the attention of others who have run into this problem so that, hopefully, Lenovo will coorporate in its resolution. Customers tend to become irate when their product literally falls apart after just a year or two of gentle use -- to be told its their own fault.
    As for my factual findings, the hubris is easy to document. For the growing "legend of our IdeaPad Yoga" and its "boundary-busting PC" design see The 360 Degrees (and 25,000 Hinge Tests) of Yoga Design, where the hinge is presented more or less as a miracle.
    Nemesis is of course what happens in real life:

    (The laptop looks beaten up here because I tried to apply epoxy glue after disintegration. Only with this experiment did I realize how inherently faulty the design is.)
    What you see here is a catastrophic failure of the whole sandwich of mechanical support: the brittle magnalium (the grey layer at the bottom) and the black plastic framing are by design receiving the torque of lid manuevers along the line of the fracture. The zinc alloy that's part of the hinge embedded in the frame is strong, but it is bizarrely only about 8mm long (measured along side of laptop). I would have expected it to be about 30-40 mms long, sticking well into the base along the area of the rubber pad. That's the first of a series of problems:
    Problem #1. The zinc alloy plate is underdimensioned.
    Problem #2. The integrity of the design relies on a screw of miniscule size (shown next to pencil). If this screw is the slightest loose, then the sandwich looses all of its stiffness. A catastrophic break will occur because of #1.
    Problem #3. There is no duplication of this critical component (this tiny screw). Your $1000 depends on it being there and very tightly in place.
    Problem #4. But the screw is not safely secured. It is held in place with a locking compound (seen as blue on the picture). Obviously, this locking compound fails with heat and mechanical stresses. There is no lock washer.
    Problem #5. Lenovo has not acknowledged these flaws. Customer laptops will continue to suffer from loosening screws and then hinge or case failure that then will be attributed to "customer abuse". 
    I'd also be curious to know whether newer Yoga versions are made as prone to break?
    I like the concept of the Yoga but I feel I blew a $1000 on it. (The wifi and trackpad problems are minor in comparision to the mechanical design, which can best be characterized by the name of yellow fruit, at least for this Yoga 13.)
    For others whose Yoga hasn't broken yet, you might want to buy a bit set with the Torx T-5 that allows to tighten your hinge screws (other case screws loosen, too).
    If your hinge becomes the slightest loose, you must check your screw!!!!!!
    But that by itself is a temporary solution: the screws need to be fixated.
    I don't know how to do that. Perhaps Lenovo should do a recall on the whole series? Otherwise, customers will get quite unhinged as well....

    Follow-up: as others have experienced, Lenovo does apparently not accept loose or missing screws or consequental dammage as a valid warranty claim.
    Indeed, I received the message from Lenovo: "After further diagnosis, our repair engineers found damages on your computer that is not covered by the Lenovo limited warranty."  
    Yet, I had very clearly explained that the mechanical damage was the result of a missing screw.
    Thus my extended warranty claim was easily denied, because this warranty extends the original warranty!! More wasted work.
    So, I have my Yoga back, though, for almost three hundred dollars. The repair was fine. Nightmare is over. But I won't hide my feelings: I'm profoundly unhappy this treatment. Also, I'm abstaining from using the Yoga in tablet mode: it's simply not sturdy enough, the flexing of the case will lead to the same problem again.
    Luckily, as a laptop it works quite well!

    Currently I am retrieving help values (F4 values) for different HR Infotypes using BAPI_HELPVALUES_GET bapi.
    I am able to provide parameters for HR infotype 0002(Personal Data), 0006(Address).
    The problem I am facing is, I don't know what to provide in OBJECT TYPE or in OBJECTNAME for HR infotype 22 (Education) and Infotype 337(Professional classification).
    I know, in which database help values are stored, but don't know what to provide in OBJECTTYPE, OBJECTNAME, METHOD and PARAMETER.
