How to install LV runtime engine and run .vi's in linux

I am attemtpting to load run time engine and run a .vi on Linux system.
Here is what I have done so far.
1. I don't have rpm on my system (gentoo) so I used the app on the install cd called INSTALL.norpm to install
labview70-rte-7.0.1.i386.rpm. It looks like it worked, there are a lot of files copied to /usr/local. A couple of .so files and a directory called Labview-7.0 (12M of files).
2. Made a test vi on other linux box that has full development system installed (also gentoo but i have rpm on this system).
Do I need this application builder i keep hearing about to make an .exe or can I run vi's with this run time engine?
What is the syntax to run a vi in linux?  ./test.vi   ????
Is application builder a seperate program that I must purchase?
When I attemp to run a vi I get garbage printing to the console, not unlike when you cat a binary file.
Any help would be appreciated. Is there instructions somewhare??? A manual perhaps that explains rte install and operation.
D.A.M.

You need the application builder to create an exe. The rte by itself will not run a VI. The exe does require the rte. It is possible to create a "loader" program that you can use to run separate VIs but the loader program must be created with the app builder. The app builder is a separate add-on or if you buy the professional version of LabVIEW, it comes included with that.

  • How do CVI7.0 runtime engine and TestStand3.0 runtime engine work in a test system?

I developed code modules from CVI 7.0, and test sequence from TestStand 3.0. Now I want to deploy all to a test system. Should I create distribution kits for CVI and TestStand, and install to a target PC? Do each kit include the RTE? How do the runtime engine work in a system?

    hp7550,
I saw your post earlier entitled "what is a run-time engine?". It looks like this post is addressing the same issue.
To answer your questions, it is not necessary to create a distribution kit for your CVI code modules. You can simply install the CVI Run-time Engine, which you can find if you go to www.ni.com and click on the Drivers and Updates link on the left-hand side.
Then you will need to deploy your TestStand system using Tools >> Deploy TestStand System in the Sequence Editor. That tool will go out and gather all the CVI code modules your sequence calls - unless you are calling a DLL or something dynamically inside of a code module; in which case, you need to add that dynamically called DLL (or code module) to your TestStand workspace.
To install the TestStand Run-time Engine, make sure the Install TestStand Engine option is checked on the Installer Options tab of the deployment utility. You can customize what gets installed with the engine by clicking on the Engine Options.
For more information on deployment, see Chapter 14 of the TestStand Reference manual (Help >> Search the TestStand Bookshelf...).
To answer your last question a run-time engine simply gives you access to the compiled code that corresponds to the functions you used from the CVI or TestStand libraries during development.
    I hope that helps.

You may want to take a look at WebMin - besides an all-round great way to manage a server, it provides in depth tinkering w/Apache, albeit not so much for the faint-of-heart at times. You'll have loads of control over Apache, but deciding how to wield it can be intimidating until you've gotten settled in.
In any case, the things that are made easier far outweigh any learning curve on the few that demand more.

  • How to install sap j2ee engine and sdm

    hi :o)
i followed the "Creating Your First Web Dynpro Application"
the final step need prerequisites: sap 2ee engine && sdm
I just download the Developer Studio software  (SAP NetWeaver 04s SP9), should i still download the Java Trail Version software (SAP NetWeaver 04s SP9) for j2ee engine setting?
what is the TREX software used for?

    Hi,
yes you are right, you have to install a Java Application Server for testing. In the netweaver studio no testing environment is integrated by default.
If you just want to check out WebDynpro, the Slim Java Edition-Trial should be enough.
Trex is the search engine of the Enterprise Portal... but for simple WebDynpro Apps you will not need it.

  • How do I build an executable w/o installing the runtime engine in the OS?

    Hello everyone
I have developped an application with LabView 8.01 and build an executable for a customer, this works great, if I have administrator rights. But my customer don't have full administrator rights and they are not able to install the software (Runtime Engine). In LabView 6.0.1, to solve this problem we added the lvrt.dll and some support files directly to the application builder as support files and it worked without to install the runtime engine in the operating system.
How can this be done in LabView 8.0.1 and which files are needed?
I am thankfull for any advice.

    hi,
you always need admin rights to install software.
I think it's not possible in labVIEW 8.01 to install the runtime without admin rights.
The costumer only has to  the runtime one time, so he should try to contact his system administrator.
I've found no workaround for it.

  • Cannot Install LV Runtime Engine 7.1

    HI,
Some of our users are having unusual installatiion problems while
installing the LV runtime Engine 7.1.1 on win2k. Our users have
installed another application recently and in that process the LV
runtime engine was removed from their computer. So, they tried to
install the runtime engine(downloaded it from NI website) again but couldn't becuase they keep getting
the message that they are not logged in as administrator. We logged in
as admnistrator and  tried installing the runtime engine again,
but the error keeps occuring and is not allowing us to install. I
searched the NI discussion forums and the Knowledge base to find
answers but did not see any that match our problem. From some of the
posts I suspect it has got something to do with Microsoft hotfixes and
    windows upgrades etc.
If anyone else had seen this kind of behavior and has found a fix,
please share it with us. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks Ahead
    Deepak K

    Hello!
This is an unusual problem.  I would first go through the add/remove
programs through control panel.  Loate the "National Instruments
Software" item and select "change".  See if any LabVIEW
components are there and slect to remove them. This will completely remove the
LabVIEW components.  Then attempt a reinstall of the runtime engine.
If this still causes problems, you may have deleted the old LabVIEW runtime
engine in an unusual way which is interfering with later installs.  If this
is the case, there are some other methods that we might be able to use to
uninstall fragments of NI software.  Removing the software does not fix
the problem post back and let us know!

  • How to install the Runtime Repository for the first time

Please let me know if I am correct...
We need to run the OWB Runtime Assistant Tool from the database server where we are to install the Runtime Repository and also the user with which it needs to be created should have the SYSDBA privileges. We run the OWB Runtime Assistant tool and then follow the subsequent instructions.
    -Arnab

The runtime repository was installed successfully, but I think we need to associate a target schema for the runtime repository as well where the deployable scripts will be kept.
I am not understand the fact that the runtime repository should 'own' the target schema ?? what does this mean ???

  • Trouble installing labview runtime engine

Can not install labview runtime engine.  Says there is already a higher version installed.

Yes, this is a pain - and I have no idea why NI would design their installers in this way. I can think of no rational reason. In any case, the work around is to uninstall everything and then reinstall in a different order. For example, I ran into the problem was trying to install a runtime executable on a machine that already has some NI drivers installed. Part of that installation was that it installed the V7.1 runtime engine. When I then went to install my executable which was built in V7.0 it wouldn't install. To get around this bug I had to uninstall all NI software and then reinstall my executable and then the drivers, in that order.

  • How to install ias 1.0 and 8.1.6.1 on a single red hat 6.1 machine

How to install ias 1.0 and 8.1.6.1 on a single red hat 6.1 machine.
i am expecting a lot of problems during the ias installation, the db is working fine. is posible to install both products over the same machine?

You should be able to iAs and the DB on the same machine but you will need to do the following:
    1. Create a new ORACLE_HOME for iAS (unsetenv ORACLE_HOME and setenv ORACLE_HOME to new home)
    2. Shutdown the DB in the existing Oracle home and change the corresponding listener port in listener.ora to a port other than the typical default (1521)
    3. Install iAS in the new Oracle home
    4. Make sure none of the listeners in the listener.ora under the new Oracle home are listening on the same port as that which you set for the existing DB listener.
In general it is advisable to install iAS EE on a different machine than the origin database to realize the full benefits of iCache (EE)

  • How to install Workshop for WebLogic and WebLogic Portal?

    Hi All,
I am new to Weblogic Portal. I would like to start learning Oracle Weblogic Portals..
Can anyone please guide me, how to install Workshop for WebLogic and WebLogic Portal?
As per the ""Tutorials – Getting Started with WebLogic Portal"" (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13155_01/wlp/docs103/tutorials/setup_dev_env.html)
we need to install the Workshop for WebLogic and WebLogic Portal.
Please suggest me where should i get the required environments/IDE?
    Thanks,
    Harish.

    Hi Harish
    1. If this is your first time with Weblogic Portal, I would recommend to download the latest Weblogic Portal Software Rel 10.3.2 from this bottom link. Check Accept Radio button, for windows download windows installer. Its about 1 GB file. This software includes Eclipse IDE, Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/wlp/index.html
    2. During the installation process, make sure at one point you select Custom mode (NOT default Typical mode). In next following screens you will see all bundles checked EXCEPT for Samples. So make sure you check Samples Check box both under Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal. Then proceed. This will install full Weblogic Workshop (Eclipse IDE), Weblogic Server and Weblogic Portal. This is the good installation package. Also it will install samples for Portal and Server. If you select all default typical mode, it will NOT install samples. You can install samples later on also, but its good at installation time itself you select custom and check Samples also.
    3. WLP 10.3.2 uses Eclipse IDE. If you are familiar with Eclipse IDE this should be helpful. Otherwise also, its ok.
    4. For learning WLP, in Eclipse IDE, you need to create Portal EAR Project, then Portal Web Project. Inside portal web project create simple jsp hello world portlets and a simple portal.
    5. For Deploying and Testing Portal application you need to create Portal Domain using config wizard. You can see this from Start -> Programs -> Oracle Weblogic Portal shortcut -> Weblogic Server -> Tools -> Configuration Wizard.
    6. You can start Workshop IDE from Start -> Program Files -> Oracle Weblogic Portal ...-> Eclipse For Weblogic 10.3.2
Here are the links for quick start guide for portal development. Please do refer them.

  • Can you build an Labview app on windows and run it on the Linux Runtime Engine?

Our developers work on windows workstations but we would like to convert our test stands to linux. Can we run the apps they develop on Linux with the Linux Runtime?

No. VIs developed on Windows will run in the LabVIEW Linux development (assuming no Windows specific functions like ActiveX and DLL calls) but in order to run a built application on Linux you will need to rebuild them with the Linux application builder.

    The error is 2500.
How I can use my appli with a run time ????!!
    Thanks

    Hello,
I suggest you to reinstall everything on the second machine, because what you did seemed to be the right thing to do, you must install the same run-time version as your LV version (what you did at first) and every soft or plugin you VI needs.
I really think it will work...  (I hope)

  • Unable to install LV Runtime Engine 7.1.1 with LabVIEW Professional 8.5.1

I installed LabVIEW Professional Sys. for Windows (XP) 8.5 and then the 8.5.1 update. Somewhere in the original installation, LV Run-time Engine 7.1 was installed. But I need LV RTE 7.1.1. So I attempted to install RTE 7.1.1. Problem: The LV RTE installer aborts with the following message:
"Installation aborted. Newer version already installed."
Why do I need 7.1.1? I must run some commercial LV executables that were compiled with LV 7.1.1 and will not run under 7.1.

Well, I have to correct myself. MAX indicated that LV RTE 7.1 (not 7.1.1) was installed. My complied LV app indicated that 7.1.1 was not installed. I checked Windows Add New Programs and selected "National Instruments Software" I found that LV RTE 7.1.1 was, in fact, installed. So I selected LabVIEW Runtime Engine 7.1.1 and clicked Repair. After rebooting, My app works correctly. Again, MAX incorrectly displays LV RTE 7.1 (not 7.1.1). My app works, so I don't care.

  • How to Detect LV runtime engine prior to showing Remote panel in browser?

I work on a web server that delivers remote panels embedded in browser windows.  On new machines, the labview runtime engine needs to be downloaded and installed.
Currently, when a new user 'hits' the remote panel, the user is prompted and then downloads the component.  However, the user experiences some errors that can be confusing.  The first time, the remote panel is not embedded properly and the user must go 'BACK' then reload the page.
We would like to check and detect whether the LVRT engine is installed prior to posting a webpage that contains a remote panel.
What is the best way to detect whether the LVRT engine is installed on a remote computer?
    Jim West

    Jim West wrote:
My brain is swimming... I haven't had enough coffee this morning... There is a chicken and egg issue.  As soon as I post the page, the client knows it needs to install the Labview runtime engine.  However, my Labview process has already attempted to place the remote panel in the page.   I get an error.  I'll admit that I haven't delved into my software since there are two spawned processes involved.  One process responds to the request and another lingers in memory running the remote panel until the user finishes.
From my perspective my lingering process should be sufficient to get the remote panel displayed when the RTE in finished installing but here is the catch.  Installing the RTE requires a reboot, therefore the server process would need to linger in memory a long time and then would need to recoginize that a user from the same computer and login is looking for the page.  Not really the way to go.  I can't have a process on the server lingering waiting for a user to reboot his computer and then do something when they start running again.  That process needs to die right away if the RTE is not available.
    Jim
Would it be possible for this lingering process to check to see if the web server read has timed out?  The default is 60 seconds, and you can change it by going to Tools>>Options>>Web Server: Configuration.
