  • Are there any programmatic means of reducing paging and increasing efficiency of insert/updates?

We have a multi-terabyte database which daily receives tens of thousands of records to insert or update. Most online advice on reducing memory paging covers server memory options and dynamic memory management techniques.
Are there any tested programmatic or database design techniques that could also be explored to increase efficiency?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    > How long is it taking now to process this workload?
About four hours. The record data is inserted/updated across multiple related tables.
    Across about how many tables?
Four hours seems a bit long for 100k rows to merge, say half updates and half new inserts (and whatever you do about deletes, maybe treat them as slowly changing dimensions), but my first move would be to just treat it as an optimization question and use
the profiler to get a list of the longest running and most expensive queries, and see if they can be individually improved.
Just basic stuff - do you handle the rows one at a time and commit for each one, or are the processes done relationally and with one commit per batch?

  • How to reduce cost for SAP Fiori Trial on CAL?

    Hi,
I have created an account in Cloud Appliance Library with AWS as per OpenSAP  Course.
It's showing the cost per hour as 3.30 USD  and per month 2379.20 USD.
Can anyone suggest me how to reduce this cost per month to the minimum.
I can't pay this much amount.
Please guide how to utilize this at the optimum w.r.t to the cost.
    Regards,
    Ramana.

    Hi Ramana,
The easiest way to optimize the costs is to suspend the instance when not used. The scheduling options in SAP CAL could help here.

  • Need to reduce COGS and increase WIP Material

We are using Inventory module along with Project costing
Inventory material is issued to Project with WIP Material Dr and Inventory Cr (Qty 10 and amount 100)
The transaction is imported to Projects using PRC: Transaction Import
In Projects, the transaction is adjusted using Tools > Recalculate Cost/Revenue. Run PRC: PRC: Distribute Usage and Miscellaneous Costs
It reverses original transaction as WIP Material Dr and Inventory Cr (Qty -10 and amount -100) and creates a new transaction as COGS Dr and Inventory Cr (Qty 10 and amount 100) using AA rules
This way, we are transferring WIP Material to COGS
Now, after doing above transaction if we have to transfer Qty 2 in WIP Material and keep only 8 in COGS, what is the process we can use?

    Hi Dina, John,
Thanks for your replies. Let me explain
When we issue material from Inventory to Project, the transaction imported to Project is WIP Material Dr to Inventory Cr (whole 10 items have moved out of Inventory)
In Projects, when we adjust this transaction, we get
WIP Material Dr to Inventory Cr (-10)....this is automatic reversing entry
COGS Dr to Inventory Cr (10)......this is based on AA rules
Dina: We have set our AA rule to get above positive transaction (Misc cost account is COGS and Misc cost clearing account is Inventory). It is helping us to knock-off reversing Inventory transaction. Also, Misc Cost clearing account does not support AA rule having Project or Task as a parameter. so, to that extent it matches with Inventory Cr transaction generated by Inventory module
Now, out of these 10, 2 have to remain in WIP Material (since those 2 are not eligible for revenue). Per your suggestion, if we do reversing entry in Inventory of -2, then we are brining the items into Inventory (which is not the case)
Hope the scenario is clear now. Let me know how to get this transaction. Per Dina's suggestion, we are trying to create a new transaction (by setting Burden transaction AA rules in Projects only) as follows:
WIP Material Dr to Inventory Cr (2)
COGS Dr to Inventory Cr (-2)
It will increase WIP Material by 2 and reduce COGS from 10 to 8.

TRANCHE_BALANCE table having partition.Firstly, regardless of the "cost", is the query performant? If not, take a read of the following thread...
When your query takes too long ...
Secondly, it would be helpful, when you post code or data, if you put {noformat}{noformat} tags before and after it so that the formatting is retained on the forum.  I'll do that here for you for now...SELECT /* + NO_USE_HASH(tbb) index(tbb XIE3TRANCHE_BALANCE) index (tbb XIE4TRANCHE_BALANCE) */

Without knowing your tables and what indexes you have defined on them and without knowing the number of rows of data as well as the cardinality and selectivity of the data, we're not going to be able to give any real advice.
What happens if you leave out the Hints?  (Index and Optimiser Hints shouldn't be used in production code, they should only be used for debugging - with the exception of the APPEND hints for inserts) • Merge data, dataflows from 2 BW systems into one to reduce cost and one way of working

    Hello BW gurus,
I have a question here in my current project we are asked to merge data from 2 BW system to one.
This basis for this is there each  BW system has their own R3 systems.
First they have now started to migrate data from ECC1 system to ECC2 system using DSM tooling and mapping tables to align to one way of working.
Only open items are migrated from ECC1 to ECC2.
BW1 system is connected to ECC1 and BW2 with ECC2.
Now they want to merge BW1 to BW2.
In BW2 historical data from BW1 is needed.Data for open items from BW1 will come from ECC2 as they are being migrated.
What should be the approach to migrate the historical data from BW1 to BW2.
There can be several scenarios :
    1)BW Objects migration
    2)Data migration
3)How to deal with common object names used in both systems for DSO and cubes where the data flows in both systems are same?
4)How to deal with common MD info objects (eg:0customer,0vendor) and also if the cutomer numbers in both system are same but with different description and vice versa.
5)How to deal with same kind of transaction data?
I went through many other discussions on the same topic but there it is mentioned to concatenate the 0logsys or sourcesytem in the dataflows where common master is used but creating z objects a copy of 0 objects like 0customer etc.
In these cases if I need to do this to existing 0customer object in that case it would mean deleting data from all flows where 0customer is used if I want to add sourcesytem the compounding which is not favourable.or in case of creating z objects of existing MD IO then add sourcesytem compounding in those cases also it would mean I have to use the new zobjects in all those DSO/Cubes/MP/Queries in place of original object which is also a lot of effort and also load data into it.
This can be done for DSO and cube flows but not MD IO.
Please suggest some good approaches /ways to the above criterias I have mentioned.
System speccification: Currently we are on BW 7.4 version but with the merge we cannot go on Hana due to cost control so we need to use the BW system only.

    Ritu,
There is no way you can create single model for 2 different R/3 systems (unless SAP decides to implement this in later versions).
If you still want to stick with a single model approach, I would suggest to use <b>Webservice</b> model where the R/3 interaction part would be taken care by WebService.

  • How to reduce reading and recording data time/ Visual C++, PCI 6024E and PCI-MIO-16E?

Right now I am working on a data communication programme. The time of reading digital signal and recording data is more than I expected, which is about 100 microsecond. I need to reduce the time. The software I am using is Visual C++ 6.0. I use two DAQ boards, which are PCI-6024E and PCI-MIO-16E. I have set the priority of Visual C++ to be realtime by task manager. The operating systme is Windows XP.
I am wondering how to set the interrupt of reading or writing data to be the highest and stop any other kind of interrupt.
    Thanks in advance!

The primary limitation you will encounter when trying to do high speed
digital I/O using your E-Series hardware is that the digital lines are
all software timed.  This means that for each and every digital
read it is necessary for your software to issue a command to your
hardware, read a single point, then receive the response from the
board.  This prevents you from performing digital operations at
very high speed.  In general, I would say that 100 microseconds is
a very good response using software-timed digital I/O on a Windows
    computer.
It is difficult to make a good recommendation without more detail about
what you are trying to do.  You may need to consider switching to
a Real-Time operating system, or upgrading your DAQ hardware to a board
that will allow you to time your digital acquisitions on the board
itself.  These devices, such as the m-Series DAQ or the PCI-653x
series, would allow you to use hardware triggers for your digital
acquisitions, change detection, and buffered data acquisitions to
reduce the software overhead involved in a rapid acquisition.

  • Manufacturing with a third party, How to control cost and automate

JDE E1 v8.12 will be upgrading to 9.0
I am new to this so if someone has ideas or point me in the right direction. You see we Order a supply of Wrappers, Trays(Boxes) and Master Shippers(Cases). This is put into inventory . We Only ship out amount needed to our third party when orders need to be filled, (Our 3rd party completes of finished goods). Rest of the Wrappers, etc are stored in our warehouse.
iInventory adjustments are done when sending to our 3rd party. When we buy the wrappers etc creates a large negative variance which floats on our books, It takes about 2-6 months to offset the variance. Our 3rd party makes our finished goods and we send them the packing etc, so our 3rd receives Wrappers, etc to complete finished Product
We are charged for Labor and the finished product.
The things we want to keep track of is
    labor(3rd party)
    Finished product(3rd party)
    Wrappers
    incurring a (+- 5%)Spoilage of wrappers
    Boxes
    Freight*
iWe get hit with freight cost 3 times
    (1)     1st cost freight to 3rd party
    (2)     2nd cost freight back to us
    (3)     3rd cost freight out to the DC( Distribution Centers)
Things we would like to automate
    •     Be able to place a PO for finished goods to 3rd party
    •     The system knows and states what components are needed to complete the finished goods(So we can monitor it)
    •     The system flags when more components needs to be ordered(so our supply does not fall below our benchmark)
Within manufacturing this product wewant to be aware of our prime cost
    Prime Cost
    1)     Direct material
    2)     Labor
    3)     Other direct cost(e.g. packaging and royalties)
Since we send our material (packing only) to a third party to complete the finished good, within the manufacturing suite. We can we use? Do we have to have manufacturing account as well? .
    Any suggestion would be received.
    Thanks

Control the process with Outside Process Work Orders. You create a Work Order and a parts list in the normal way but have a two step routing, the first step is the Outside Process done by the Third Party and the second step is receipt of the goods back from them (JDE will not allow an Outside process to be the last step on a routing)
With the first operation you will need a OP item number, this is part number which is made up of the Item being manufactured plus the characters OP plus the operation number, this part number represents the service that the 3rd party is providing and is set up as a Stock Type X, Line Type X
When you run R31410 to attach the parts list it will automatically raise a Purchase Order on the 3rd party
You can then issue the parts to the Work Order in the normal fashion and since you have a P/O for the manufacturing process this will acount for the 3rd party labour

  • How to reduce costs of ISP

i have Qwest into my house...$50/month, then ISP, an additional $55/month...which is for VOIP and email...i am fixing to retire and need to seriously reduce my expenses...ideas?  most appreciated!!!

Qwest ....can also be ISP for more$$$...
So it's telephone plus cable plus internet, at $105 a month, or nothing? That is totally unreasonable. I would tell them either unbundle their Internet from cable TV, or take a hike. You should be paying half that.
I'm with steve - no cable in Galt's Gulch. No TV at all. Never been happier. Netflix is all I need.

  • How query cost and execution time are releated ?

    hi experts,
i am curious to know, how the query cost and execution time is related?
Query taking less time ,query cost is 65%, but query taking more time but query cost is 0%.
how to connect both and improve query performance.
    Thanks

i think you are refering to cost (relative to the batch) execution 65%, where there are more that one statement, it may compare the cost of each statement with in the batch
i assume it mainly take subtree cost and IO stat as cost, but in some cases i may wrong when there is multi line function and many other facter influence the cost, and i would say it depends on the query
    cost is unit-less
The reason these costs exist is because of the query optimization SQL Server does: it does cost-based optimization, which means that the optimizer formulates a lot of different ways to execute the query, assigns a cost to each of these alternatives, and
chooses the one with the least cost. The cost tagged on each alternative is heurestically calculated, and is supposed to roughly reflect the amount of processing and I/O this alternative is going to take.
