HP 8600 scan to OS 10.9.4 iMac

Can't scan from HP 8600 to computer or network folder. Downloaded and installed latest drivers and can print wireless but iMac doesn't recognize the 8600 to scan.  Selecting Printer from System Preferences only gives options for scan to email and network folder which I can't make connection through HP directions. Select Spotlight on iMac and tye HP Utilities gives me a link to display for HP 8620 with icon for scan to computer but unable to select any function; cursor goes from arrow to plus sign when moved to HP 8620 display.

Hi @f4gib
I believe the best appraoch is to complete a commplete uninstall, clean up of the Mac's disk permissions and a reinstall. From your description, it sounds to me like there is something in the software that is missing or not functioinng as it should. Please use the steps below to completed the recommended steps and let me know the outcome. Thanks.
Scrub/ Uninstall
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
* Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers.  Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
Click uninstall.
Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OKto confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer and the printer.
Click on the Apple and check for Apple software updates, install the available updates and restart again.
Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. >  Officejet-Pro-8600_v12.23.0.dmg
Although we just checked for Apple updates, please do so again, now that you have installed the HP software there may be an HP update available through the Apple software updater.
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you select can the printer driver
I hope this does the trick! Please let me know how this works out!
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

My printer is on the network, I've installed all the software (full feature), but I can't seem to find where you guys put access to the 'control pannel' where I can print, scan, etc... directly from my laptop.
It popped up after installation of the software, but when I closed it I expected to have a desktop icon, or sys tray access. I can't find a way to open up that control pannel again. I have the all in onwe deskjet pro 8600.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8600 scans have vertical lines.

I have a OfficeJet Pro 8600 and my scans have vertical lines.  Copying does not have the lines.

I used the ADF and the flat bed to scan; both having lines as a result.
In one of the forums and they thought it was static.  It was suggested to have the printer on and then unplug it.  Wait 15 seconds and plug it back in.  That did the trick.  No more lines.  I guess with winter bringing on more dry air, static is prevalent.
    Problem solved.
    Thanks

  • HP 8600 scan to yahoo mail as .pdf gives error but opens in gmail outlook

I have scan opening problem with HP 8600.  I can open any .pdf with no problem.  I have Win 7 and current Adobe.  But anything scanned by HP 8600 to yahoo mail gives...it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...
When I scan to both gmail and yahoo, gmail opens with no problem but the yahoo mail gives the error message above.  I have tried on numberous PCs and with at least 3 different yahoo users.  To make this even more puzzling,  I can forward the same email with attachment from gmail to yahoo and the attachment will now open, but the scan sent directly to yahoo mail still will not open..   looking for answers, not work arounds.  I have already reinstall the printer.
I can also forward the yahoo mail  .pdf attachment that will not open to gmail and it opens!

  • HP 8600 scan-to-web : scans fine, but then saves a blank file

I have an HP 8600 which I am trying to use to webscan because I am using it from linux.
The scan works fine, the scanned image shows up on the screen fine.
When I try to save it, I get a blank file (.jpg).
It also doesn't ave with PDF either, or gives a squashed PDF file that is 4x wider than it is tall.
I am running with a new version of Google Chrome,  Version 37.0.2062.94 (64-bit).  I finally gave up on chrome and got it to work with Firefox.  I don't think your javascript is working properly in the newest version of Google Chrome.

Hello @systemBuilder00 , and welcome to the HP Forums.
I understand you are experiencing Linux scan issues.  I would like to try and assist.
If you are connected via wireless, I would recommend this document on Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates.
I would also recommend the following link:

  • Hp Offijet Pro 8600 scanning problem

When I scan files the result is documents with vertical lines, like in the image. I have the problem just if I scan Black&white.
Color scans dont give me any problem.
I have this problem also when I send a Fax.
What I have to do to resolve this problem?

Hello there Eraclito! Welcome to the forums
I saw your post about the lines you are seeing when you scan with your HP Officejet Pro 8600 .
My suggestion for you is to try the steps in the guide below. Also ensure the printer in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.

  • Hp 8600 scan software issue

I installed the recent security update to OSX and also installed a firmware update a couple of weeks ago to the HP 8600 Officejet Pro all-in-ine printer, scanner, fax machine.  Now the scan software does not work.  Any suggestions?

Similar problem.  I reinstall the software and it works for a single job then everything else fails.  The HP diagnostic print form within the HP however.
    Ideas anyone?
Is there a way to contact HP other than for $100?  The web site community is not much help it seems.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 scan to computer with Mac OS 10.6.8

I have reinstalled the software, selecting HP Recommended Software.  I have restarted the computer and done a software update.  I can print from my computer to the printer.  But I cannot "scan to computer" using the touchpad on the front of the printer.  When I select it, the message says "No Computer Found."   When I open the HP utility on the computer, under scan settings there is NO "scan to computer" option to select, even though the printer says I need to select it.
I can scan a document using by opening the settings on the computer, but I cannot figure out how to tell it to use the document feeder.  So I figured I would try it from the printer itself.  But I cannot get that to work.

Try scanning FROM your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • HP Officejet 8600 scan - How to force scan number sequence starting with a number of my choice

Using HP Officejet 86XX on WIn7 - with ADF.
I scan a lot of docs via the ADF and all docs scanned has a number in sequence noted at the documents.
Is there any way to decide which number the HP scan software shall start its numbered sequence? Eg. prefix "Document-" and then force the sequence-number to start at 00200, on order for the next file sequence number to be 00201 and then 00202 and so on??

Hi , I may be able to help you with your scan settings, but I want to make sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish - so let me know if this isn't what you are looking for. Click on the HP Printer Assistant icon on your desktop (It will look like your printer, and be labeled to match)In the HP Printer Assistant click on Scan a Document or PhotoChoose the shortcut you are selecting on the front panel of the printer (ie Save as PDF)Click on Advanced Settings You can modify your scanner settings, I believe you want to change the settings on the Destination tab.Base File Name: First part of the file name, so in your example "Document-", the scanner will automatically number it after each scan.. eg. Document-0001 will be your first scan, Document-0002, will be the second.Save Location: You can even setup a new folder for the scans  After you change the settings, try the scan from the front panel of your printer. Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • Can't scan from HP 7520 Printer for iMac using Yosemite 10.10.1

We have a new iMac that is running on Yosemite 10.10.1.  I am trying to get the scan from printer function to work, but the HP window on the printer didn't register the computer.
So I downloaded and installed the  driver for OSX 10.10 from the HP website.  The window on the 7520 now lists the computer when I click the scan function, but the scan fails, and the window says the computer is not connected.
The name on the downloaded file says it is for "Mavericks," so I thought maybe it dosen't work with Yosemite?
When I open the printer scanning settings on the iMac, it tells me that the "enable scan" function isn't working, and that I need to download the latest software from HP.
    I thought I did that.
Is there a  way to make this work?
    Thanks....

  • Can't scan on my HP with the iMac

    Hello,
I have an iMac (new) and a macbook (old - about 4 years), when I'm trying to scan on my iMac I get a message that an error occurred, but I can scan great on my macbook.
I'm doing the exact same thing on both computers, I tried to uninstall the HP scanner and reinstall it again but with no luck.
    The HP model is J4580.
    Please advice.
    Thanks.
    Shy Oren

Give it a try in the Image Capture program.
This from an HP support doc:
    Scanning (where applicable)
The Scanning interface is now built into Snow Leopard and supported with the Apple Image Capture application.
NOTE: HP Scan Pro software (from Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5) is not supported in Snow Leopard. The HP icon for HP Device Manager still in the dock after upgrade is not functional and should be removed.
NOTE: Scan support from pushing the Scan button on the printer is not supported with this version of the ICA scan interface built into Snow Leopard. Scan functionality is supported by scanning directly from the computer.

  • HT2486 Is there a way to save business cards in address book, by scanning or the camera on the iMac.

    Hi All,
at times we feel that the business card sent by the client or friend is also necessary for future. is there any way we could save the jpeg of the card by a click onto the address book in the mac.
It would be cool if we could make some use of the camera in the front to take a snap shot of the bc.
    Regards
    Beck

I appreciate the link but wasnt really looking to go through a 100+ page iphone guide.  From what I saw, it said what other people have told me - which is it will sync contacts from Google (Gmail) or Yahoo...so that doesnt mean it will sync contacts directly from an Android phone's contact list.  All the manual said was you sync thru itunes.
It looks like what I should do at some point is manually input all my contacts into a new "clean and unused" Gmail account...Unless there was an easy way to transfer my Mac Address Book to a Gmail Account.
It seems like if you have contacts in a Gmail account, it will be easy to transfer anywhere.
Im starting to wonder if an Android would be bette than an iphone anyway.  Considering the nightmare time Ive had with a Mac in just a few months, Im surprised Im even still considering another Apple product.
    Thanks

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was
unable to save the file to the specified location'.  It will save a regular PDF file
or a  JPG file with no problem, but trying to save an searchable PDF or .rtf file
results in the above mentioned system error.
This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.
The computer is running Windows XP and the I.R.I.S. OCR software is
    loaded.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!
