HP G72 - BIOS bricked - USB restore problems

Hello!
I disabled "Virtualization" in my BIOS of my HP G72-a05SG. But after saving, it rebooted and the NUMLOCK and CAPSLOCK lights are blinking 2 times, so, according to this site, the BIOS is corrupt. And my HP_TOOLS partition doesn't exist on my hard drive.
So I've prepared my USB drive with "HP BIOS-Update (UEFI)" and "HP System Diagnostics (UEFI)" and followed the instructions of this. It doesn't recover from there, but the notebook's accessing the hard drive, the USB drive's beeing accessed all the time, but nothing happenes, no beep, no video output.
Is my notebook completely bricked, or did I something wrong?
Can somebody upload his/her HP_TOOLS partition from the hard drive so that I can try to recover the BIOS from there?
I appreciate any help!

Fixed it myself using this wonderful guide (maybe this file naming tips are also useful). HP BIOS Update appeared and recovered the BIOS image from the stick. Yay!

What was original version of Windows on the laptop?
Vista or XP? (Look for Windows sticker on bottom)
To determine current bios version, enter bios setup
on boot at Lenovo screen. (Press F1 key)
    Look for bios version.
    Newest XP version is 2.06
    Newest Vista version is 1.08
Bios files and instructions (read them!) are on

Try to boot in Safe Mode to install bios update.
(Press F8 key repeatedly at Lenovo screen to display
Windows boot option menu. Choose Safe Mode.)

  • Thinkpad W701 - Deleted BIOS, mysterious USB/Esata problems before update

    Hi,
Yesterday I was supposed tto try out my new esata external disk, I had used it before with my EX495 homeserver, without any problems.
But when I conncted it to teh W701 it seemed like the connection failed and the drive fell to sleep when I tried to write to it. When I used USB it worked perfectly, and with the server esata worked without a hitch.
After trying that some time, I decided to try the lacie updater, and then a reboot. After that all of the usb ports failed.
I had allready looked at the Lenovo updateprogram, and found some updates, so I controlled the computer with the trackpad, and updated, but when the computer rebooted suddenly, and screen showed a underscore blinking and that was it. After that the computer screen went black and won't turn on anymore.
I have it it for 4-5 weeks now, and after 1 week the MB failed when setting in new ram, and was switched, now it has failed again - is there anything I could to, or does this one have to go in on service again?
    Solved!

Just as a verification of this issue, I got the same problem when I updated my BIOS (letting ThinkVantage do it's thing).  I have a ThinkPad W701 (got it 4 weeks ago), just called support and they verified that I had to send it in for a new MB.  Would have thought there was some QC when releasing these updates, but, I guess not....

  • After restoring BIOS from USB still HP BIOS Utility starts

Hi guys, after a BIOS update my HP Pavilion 15-e026sl not boot anymore, it does the following scheme:
    I press the power button
Power, Bloc Maiusc and wifi lights and fan on but dark screen
2/3 seconds and everything shut down
The pc automatically reboot with bloc maiusc light flashing
HP Bios update starts with the need to recovery Bios because it's corrupted
Flash the Bios, but when verifying the bios flashed I got error
    Everything restart from point 4
So, I read on this forum and on the HP Support Center how to create the famous "HP_TOOLS" USB stick in order to restore the BIOS image. (With another pc) From the Support Page of my Pavilion 15-026sl I downloaded the latest BIOS update (F.23), I started the .exe file and I created the USB Stick choosing the correct option.
Then I put the USB on the Pavilion and with Win + B + Power combination the pc started to recover BIOS from USB, and this is the log that I extracted from the USB stick:

Download the current BIOS Rompaq on another Windows PC. Double click it to open it. Choose the" create a recovery USB flash drive to use on devices with corrupted BIOS." option
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-134117-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
Plug a 2GB or larger capacity flash drive into an available port
Once the recovery usb flash drive has been created, plug it into your pavilion 15 notebook and press the power button to boot to it and write a fresh bios rom file into the CMOS ROM to replace the corrupted one currently there.

  • USB ports problem

    Hi all,
I have got a brand new laptop Pavilion dv6-2060ea and have noticed problems with the usb ports. I generally use linux as a primary OS but I have noticed the same problem on Windows 7 as well. The laptop sometimes doesn't recognize usb devices as a mouse or an external harddrive, it means when I turn on the laptop boot on an OS, the mouse doesn't work and I have to reinsert it to get it work. It happens 2 or 3 times from 5 boots so it's quite often I would say. The same problem is with the external hdd, have to reinsert it and then it's all right. I have noticed that there has been a new BIOS released and this should fix some problems with usb ports but I already have upgraded to that BIOS(F.13A) and problems persist. I also miss more options in the BIOS about the CPU settings because the laptop has Core i7 and there is no any option to configure the CPU.
Be patient with my English, please. Cheers, Pepe

  • USB Sound Problem

I'm having a problem with my Bose USB sound system that has just recently developed. The system is plugged directly into the back of my Mac Pro desktop so it's not going through any hubs or secondary systems. When I first start my computer the sound works just fine. But after about 10 to 15 minutes of use the sound stops completely - as if the sounds have been turned off. If I boot into Windows 7 using Boot Camp, the sound system there works just fine with no problems at all, so I do not believe this issue is hardware related but is something associated with OS X.
This all started recently after installing Tinker Tool and then realizing that their latest version is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I followed their directions and told Tinker Tool to restore the previous settings and then I removed it from my system. Now, I'm having this USB sound problem. I think it's highly probable to be the cause of my problem.
Is there anyway to reinstall the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling the entire OS? Or, is there something else I can try to restore the USB function to Snow Leopard? Many thanks for any tips or suggestions.

    They are plug and play.
I did try unplugging all of the USB devices and then powered off the computer and unplugged it for about 5 minutes as I heard that that sometimes solves USB problems. However, upon reconnecting the problem returned. All other USB devices seem to be working normally - it's only the Bose sound system. I tried plugging it into a different USB port in the back of the computer but the problem continued after about 10 minutes. Therefore, I am convinced this is not hardware related.
At this point I am thinking I need to reinstall OS X Snow Leopard to undo whatever Tinker Tool damaged. Is it possible to just replace the USB drivers in OS X without reinstalling everything?

  • Booting BIOS from USB doesn't work (890FXA-GD70)

    Hi all,
in case of BIOS crash, recent MSI motherboards should be able to boot using a BIOS provided from an USB pendrive. I have tested this function by calling it directly by BIOS option, but it fails after BIOS is loaded getting a blank screen (debug code: 09) or the monitor off (debug code: 31). Does any of you know whether the problem is fixable or any hints? Is it working to you?
    890FXA-GD70 (either BIOS 1.0 and 1.6)
Verbarim Store'n' go 4GB USB pendrive (tested with FAT32, FAT16 formats, partitions smaller, bigger... nothing)
BIOS save function doesn't work as well. Some bytes are different comparing the saved file to original one.

it's probably m-flash issue, what's current bios version installed?
Yes, you can say: "Flash your BIOS to the last version released some days ago, and retry", but that is the last chance for clear reasons. The problem hasn't been fixed flashing from 1.0 to 1.6, and I guess likely this code with the bug is in non flashable part of BIOS.
I wonder whether Boot 2nd BIOS from USB Drive (or Backup BIOS to USB Drive) is working for someone, it looks impossible it is entirely broken...

  • K8N Neo2 USB boot problem

Hi, I'm trying to fix my computer (it freezes on every operating system all of a sudden), and I need to use the USB boot to load Linux Live and Windows installation (both froze as well). The problem is that it'll take the USB just once in a while, and that is causing me a big loss of time to make the tests and a headache. First thing I did was memtest and I found corrupt memory, thus I replaced the DIMM. But the freezing is still there.
Do you have any hint? I know it's a double question but at least if the USB boot was working all the time it'd be a lot faster to load stuff and try to fix the problem.
    Thanks for your hints!

The blinking is not normal.  I haven't run across any bad USB cable problems on Nokia phones but there have been some HTC USB cables that work to charge but not fot the PC connection. If you have another similar USB cable try it. Try other PC usb ports also

  • Dv6748us how to make a bios recovery usb

how to make a  bios recovery usb?

    Hi!
You can download new BIOS versions on the Toshiba website. Search for your model and select BIOS update
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Download the right file and follow these instructions:
Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
Make sure that all open files are saved and all applications are closed.
Execute the extracted *.exe file in the temporary folder. Follow the instructions on the screen.
The BIOS update will be done automatically.
After a few minutes the Notebook will restart automatically.
    Bye

  • After upgrade to ios 6 usb connection problems with car stereo

    Hi Everyone,
after ios upgrade to ios6 i am not further able to use the iPhone 4s as music device - having usb connection problems ("not readable"). I am sure, that the upgrade ist the culprit; worked fine before. My car stereo is built in a Volvo XC 60; the device is connected via the standard usb cable by apple.
    Any Ideas?

  • [N85] USB charging problem

    Hello all,
I tried to charge my N85 with an [non-Nokia] USB battery charger (Lenovo 90W Slim AC/DC Combo Adapter) via the Nokia Connectivity Cable (CA-101) to keep down the amount of chargers I have to carry.
But except of asking, which data connection profile I want to use, there is no charging at all.
Am I doing something wrong or is the N85 only chargeable by the original Nokia wall charger?
    Thank you
    sicut

@sapporaby: Are you sure you have read my post completely? "Apple" is a brand o usb charger that does not work with my Nokia N85. It's a brand like "Kensington", with a usb charger that do work. Both usb charger worked with my old Nokia N95. I just want to know whether someone else has this problem usb charging problems too or if only my problem, and to make know @sicut that he is not the only one with usb charging problems with his Nokia N85 and his Lenovo charger.
@sapporaby, is it "apple" a word taboo for you? Why "kensington" is not taboo? Why "lenovo" is not taboo either?
    1. I have had every Mac made since 2003.
    2. I am typing this on a Mac now.
    3. I have had and still have every iPhone made.
    4. Same with every brand iPod.
    5. I am running Apple software right now and the Nokia for Mac software.
Is that taboo enough for you? DON'T ASSUME because now your taboo question is moot.
As for your the Apple charger does not work issue, my question still stands. While your Apple charger may have worked with your N95 there is no reason why it should work with your N85. Are they the same phone?. Is the N85 made by Apple? No again. Does the Apple charger supply the same charging voltage as the Nokia charger that came with the phone? These are issues that come into play. What is so hard to use the cable that came with the phone. It seems, and maybe I am wrong but you and the OP are making a mountain out of a moe-hill.
Just use the cable that came with the phone, in the USB port of your computer and be done with it. I am having a very hard time trying to understand what the problem is with using the cable.

  • Osx Lion Restore Problems

So I decided to restore my new 2011 21.5 inch imac back to osx lion, I decided this because apparently my macintosh hd wont let my partition it in anyway and i cant put windows on here unless I do a fresh install of lion, then I can do boot camp.
So I booted into the recovery manager option when you start up your computer and I clicked on restore osx lion.
It took about 6 hours to download, and then the computer rebooted, and now I dont know what to do, I went back to the restore lion option in that menu and it makes me download it all again.
Does anyone know what I can do?
Id  be happy if someone could help with my partitioning problem if they cant help with my restore problem.
    Thanks for the time,
    Dan

Lion Recovery Assistant should only take a few minutes to download unless you're on the slowest Internet connection known to man. Also OS X is NOT like MS Windows that has to be reinstalled at every hickup. It is INCREDIBLY stable. On the computer I'm using right now in the 4+ years I've owned it it has NEVER needed the OS reinstalled and is totally stable. I have upgraded it from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard and now Lion. It has been through countless updates and still continues to work like it is a new machine.
