HP Officejet 4500 [Please attach name plate firmly]

The printer in my office is complaining about the name plate not being attached firmly but i have take the name plate off, cleaned and reseated it and the error persists. I have also drained power from the machine by unplugging for 15 minutes and plugging back in and that also didn't work.
Could i have some help with this printer as i have had it for only a year and had nothing but trouble with it!

Hi BradleyEPIT,
I am sorry to hear your printer is complaining   I'd like to help.
I recommend we try doing a reset on the printer. Some resets require you to enter button combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were never meant to access.  These special menus are used by the developers and support personnel for debugging issues, but they are not meant for untrained users and can have unintended results.  One wrong button push and you no could no longer have a printer, but instead a pricey paper weight.  To top it off, if you do happen to "brick" the printer this way, it is considered customer induced damage, and voids the warranty automatically. These resets are only meant to be given out and used as a last resort, and under direct instruction of a HP tech support representative. They should not be done lightly!
Printer Resets: What You Should Know
With this being said, I will send you a private message with the instructions to perform a reset on your printer.

  • New Officejet 4500 will not connect wirelessly

We just got a new Officejet 4500 that I began to set up last night.  First I followed the recommended setup path for setting it up wirelessly: USB connection to my MacBook Pro, install the software, use the setup wizard, etc.  It chugged away for a while and eventually I got back a bunch of errors "Failed to retrieve IP".
I have a wireless hub provided by my ISP which I have set up with WEP (no Mac filtering, no special firewall within the home network).  After googling around for a while I decided to switch to WPA personal.  I got my MacBook working with that, then tried the printer wireless setup wizard again.  No go, same errors.
Next I tried setting it up (still with WPA) directly on the printer using it's menus.  This also didn't work.  The printer printed out a Wireless Network Test Report which looked like this in the Diagnostics Summary:
    Wireless On: PASS
    Wireless Working: PASS
    Network Name (SSID) Found: PASS
    Security: PASS
Printer Settings Consistent with Wireless Router Settings: PASS
    No Filtering: FAIL
    Connected: Not Run
    Signal Strength: Very Low
Other networks detected matching your network name (SSID): No
    Downlink count: 2
    Channel: Not Run
I also switch back to WEP and reran the setup via the printer menus, and failed the same way and got the exact same diagnostic summary.
    What now?

    Hello-
If you have a Officejet 4500 G510g , the printer is not wireless. You can use an ehternet cable and do a network install. That way any device that is wireless can use it as long as your on the same network.
The OJ 4500 G510n is wireless.

  • HP Officejet 4500 G510g windows 7 64 bit impossible to download working driver from HP

    Hi
I am connecting to an HP officejet 4500 with no installation discs.   I have been trying to download driver from HP .  All the installations just advise tht it has stopped working.  I have downloaded the correct drivers from HP website using Chrome and IE but same issues.   It would appear that HP just do not have any "working drivers" available for this printer.
I am aware that I need to not have the usb cable attached when installing the driver.  I have now tried installing same driver so many times now maybe I need to uninstal the previous driver instal attempts.
Either way, the HP printer ran out of warrenty Nov 2011 so I cannot chat direct to HP but guess could call them at a cost but just to get a working driver this should not be necessary.
The Product code of the printer appears to be CB867A.
Any advice much appreciated as otherwise it will have to go in the bin and never HP again.
    Cheers

    Hi John,
First of all, click the start button and type %temp% within the search box.
    Open the listed Temp folder.
Remove any of this folder's contrent by clicking CTRL + A and then the Delete key.
Any of this contect is a temporary content and can be deleted with no issues.
Next run the OJ4500vG510g_m_Full_13-en.exe once again.
Once the error appears again, run the patch as you listed on your previous post once again.
If it still points to the A-F folder, open the newly created HP folder within the same Temp folder, copy its path and paste it into the patch once it shows the installation path and check for any change.
Please let me know if that may help,

  • OfficeJet 4500 and Problem with Launching Windows Explorer (XP OS)

I installed HP OfficeJet 4500 wireless printer with XP operating system on my desktop PC in Wireless mode.  Printing works fine from desktop and wireless laptops.  However, when I try to access Windows Explorer on my desktop PC, using the desktop shortcut or executable file name in the "Run" menu, the screen flashes, goes blank (blue screen) then refreshes the desktop but will not launch Windows Explorer.  This also occurs when I go to My Computer or Network Places and select "My Documents" or click on the root of the C: drive.  The only way I can access my files is to use the actual program they were created in (i.e., Word, Excel, Adobe, etc.)  I used System Restore and restored my computer to a date prior to installing the printer and this solved the problem.  When I reinstalled the HP OfficeJet printer, the problem recurred, so it is definitely associated with installing the printer.  Anyone have a fix for this?  Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
I haven't seen that issue specifically.  I would download and run the HP Printer Diagnostic Utility.  There might be some file conflicts during the installation that are not resolved that this utility might fix.  I have a C309a AiO that had some other issue that the Diagnostic utility fixed.

  • Officejet 4500

I got a new wireless router and set up network with different name and pass phrase.  How do I reconnect the officejet 4500 to the new wireless network?  Under settings network setup up I only can reset network then use automatic or manual.  Nowhere can I find option to chose new network and enter pass phrase.....

    Hi @mrgadget10,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are trying to connect your HP Officejet 4500 to your new wireless router. I am happy to look into this for you!
For further assistance, I will need some additional information:
The Product/Model Number of your printer. Follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
In the meantime, please take a look at the HP Wireless Printing Center website.

  • Wireless connection for officejet 4500

I just replaced my router and now I'm having problems reconnecting my officejet 4500.

Well on this printer you go into the front panel setup which you would hit the setup rench symbol to the right of the machine than find network  and then under network setting you will see wireless setup wizard when you select that option then to put in the passphase you do it like texting you keep pushing the number until it turn into a letter or number for you so it like texting when you put in the passphase.  Now the passphase was setup when you got the new router so if you don't remember it contact the router company or it may be on the router and you put in the front panel like texting. I attached a document on how to reconnect to the network. Maybe this step by step process will help you out on resolvinfg the issue your having.
Thank you for being a Valued Hp Customer
    Step one: Prepare for installation
Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
WEP key or WPA security passphrase
A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
    Administrator privileges or password (Vista)
Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
Exit all applications running on your computer.
Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cable that is connected to the product.
If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to a wireless network connection, follow these instructions to remove the USB installation before continuing.
    Go to the Printers folder:
Windows XP: Click Start , and then click Printers and Faxes .
Right-click the icon for HP product, and click Delete to remove it.
Step two: Connect to the wireless network
The following video demonstrates how to set up a wireless connection between your product and a wireless network. The product shown in the video is the HP Officejet J4680. The outside of the product might look different, but the steps are similar for your product.

Follow these steps to connect the product to your wireless WLAN 802.11 network.
Press the Setup button ( ) on the product control panel.
Press the Arrow buttons ( ) to highlight Wireless Menu , and then press OK .
Press the Arrow buttons ( ) to highlight Setup Wizard , and then press OK .
The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
Press the Arrow buttons ( ) to highlight the network name (SSID) that you gathered in the previous step, and then press OK .
If prompted, enter the WPA or WEP key:
Use the alphanumeric keypad on the product control panel to enter the passphrase.
When you finish entering the passphrase, press OK .
Make sure the product successfully connects to the network before continuing to the next step.
Step three: Decide whether to install with the product CD or download the software
Don’t worry if you don’t have the product CD! You can download the most current software available for your product from the HP Web site at no cost. The following information might help you decide which installation method to use:
Step four: Install the product software
To install the product on the wireless network, follow the steps for the method that you want to use (CD or download). Repeat the steps to install the software on each computer that will use the product wirelessly over the same network.
IMPORTANT : If you get any firewall messages during installation, click unblock , accept , continue , yes , allow , or permit , or the installation will fail.
Method one: Install the software with the product CD

    Click your operating system.
The Select Software and Drivers page opens.
Click the driver that you want to download. If you need help deciding, see the information in the previous table.
Click Download only . This option allows you to install the software at any time after the download completes.
Click Save , and then browse to the location on your computer where you want to save the file.
Click Save . The software downloads to your computer.
Tip: Make a note of the place that you saved the file, in case you want to install it at a later time.
    Step two: Install the software
Follow these steps to install the downloaded software.
When the download is complete and you are ready to install the files, click Open Folder , and then double-click the downloaded file. The file name ends in .exe .
NOTE: If you closed the Download Complete screen, browse to the folder where you saved the .exe file, and then double-click it.
You can accept the default location to save the files. Click Next , and then wait while the installer extracts the files to prepare for installation.
Follow the on-screen instructions to start the installation.
NOTE: If you previously installed the software and are changing the connection type from USB to wireless, click Add a device when the Uninstall the software or Add a device window opens.
If you downloaded a Full Feature driver, the installer might prompt you to select the type of installation you want. (Skip this step if you downloaded a basic driver.)

  • Unable to connect officejet 4500 g510n to mac

I have purchased a new MacBook Air and cannot get my HP Officejet 4500 g510 n to connect. They are both registered on the same Wireless Router & the MacBook acknowledges the printer. Please Help - driving me mad !!!

    Hello @ChrisWardle,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with installing your HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One Printer on your new Mac OS X computer. However, I do need to clarify what Operating System you're using on your new Mac computer?
    What's my OS?
Because you said this is a new Mac, I'm going to assume that you're using Mac OS X 10.10. Should you be using Mac OS X 10.9 the troubleshooting steps that I'm going to provide you with below should be roughly the same. On the Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.10 Operating Systems there is no HP downloadable Full Feature Software and Driver available for this model of printer. Therefore, you are relying solely on your Apple Updates for installing the features of your printer. To ensure that your printer is installed properly, please follow the steps below.
If you have a USB Cable connected from your printer to your Mac, please disconnect that cable now.
Step 1: Uninstall Drivers and Software:
To ensure that we have a nice clean slate to work with, can I please have you click here. When the website opens select the dropdown for 'Mac OS X v10.6, OS X v10.7, OS X v10.8, and OS X v10.9' as the steps are the same for Mac OS X 10.10. Please run Method One: Reset the printing system, and Method two: Uninstall the Printer software.
Once the uninstall is complete, please proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Verify and Repair your Disk Permissions on the Mac:
Open Macintosh HD and go to Applications
    Go to the Utilities Folder
    Open the Disk Utility
Select the Hard Drive volume you are using (usually on the left)
    Select Verify Disk Permissions
Once that process is done, select Repair Disk Permissions
Step 3: Check for Apple Updates:
    Go to Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Software Update
    Click Update Now
    Install your available updates
    Restart your computer
    Step 4: Add your Printer:
    1. Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
    2. Select Print & Scan, and then check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list.
    3. Do the following, depending on if the printer is listed or not:
If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication with the Mac. Click the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign (), click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer
    4. Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu.
    5. Click Add to add the printer to the list.
    6. Close Print & Scan

Once these steps are complete, please try to print.

  • Officejet 4500 G510g-m | Windows 7 Driver Installation Problems

    Hello!
I've just purchased a new Acer Aspire One 722 laptop running on Windows 7 64-bit for work and I'm having some problems getting it to play nice with the all-in-one at work. The model is an Officejet 4500 G510g-m and though I still have the CD, it seems to be of little help. Whenever I run any of the HP diagnostic tools, they attempt to download the full software suite (I assume, since it's the same 373MB package) and extract it, only to go back to step one of discovering the device and starting the download all over again.
I have tried running the Solution Center installer directly from the disk, at which point I get the 2732 error. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Flash to attempt to circumvent that error to no success. I have downloaded both the basic and the full driver suite from the HP site and attempted installation multiple times, using the scrubber in between to ensure a clean slate. I've copied the files from the CD to my computer and tried to install more directly, with exactly the same results, yet the printer continues to show up as problematic under the "Printers and Devices" window, troubleshooting which just returns me to the endless cycle of downloading a driver that seems to not want to install.
At this point, I haven't the faintest clue what's causing the problem, so I'd greatly appreciate any insights!
Thanks for your time in advance.

your scenario is also described here: Re: sender mail adapter - attachment name

  • HP Officejet 4500 will print but won't scan - MAC OS 10.6.8

    Hi
We've been using our HP Officejet 4500 for about 3 years with mostly no issues. Recently, we were having some issues. We uninstalled the software and then used Apple Software Update to reinstall. Now the printer works perfectly for printing wirelessly. But scanning is not even an option. I cannot scan from the control panel on the printer. When I go into system preferences, the little printer icon says "Print & Fax", not "Print & Scan" and there is no scanner option to be found once I am in "Print & Fax". I used to have an HP Scan program on my Mac that I could open and scan from there but now that is gone. The HP website tells me to simply use Apple Software Update for drivers and software. Apple Software Update tells me I have everything I need. I have performed "Repair Disk Utility", rebooted, deleted the printer and added it again.
    Please help. Thanks.

    Hello @Yakbihn ,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having problems scanning with your officejet 4500.
    I would like to help.
HP Scan software is not available through Apple Software Update (ASU) for some HP Multifunction Printers.
And as you and I know, The Drivers are not available on HP.com.
There are still ways for you to scan.

  • Officejet 4500 will not print black ink

Our small office has had an Officejet 4500 for a few months now with no problems. Today it has ceased printing any black ink.
-I have changed the cartridge to be sure, though at no point has it said low ink. This fixed the problem for a few pages but the problem popped back up. I did align the cartridges after installing the new cartridge.
-I have tried cleaning the contacts on the cartridge itself.
-The scanning function still functions and color ink can be printed.
-Overall printing does seem slower, regardless of the black ink issue. Not sure if related.
-The all in one has been used more frequently in the past few weeks.
    This question was solved.

For the Officejet 6500 you might try the soak procedure described here.

  • Officejet 4500 will not scan

Ihave an HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium and an HP Officejet 4500  510g  all-in-one. I suddenly cannot scan from the Solution Center or from the front panel of my printer. The Solution Center first gave me an error:
8,[(8,101,0)]. I rebooted computer and tried again, and it scanned a third of a page and froze. I downloaded the new HP Print and Scan Doctor and ran it. It showed an error when scanning the drivers(no error number). It instructed me to unplug printer power, plug it back in, reboot computer and try again.Upon doing so it , the scan doctor came back with another error and said it could not fix the issue and showed me a link to HP Support. Clicked on the link and it was the Driver downloads page. I downloaded the full driver, but have not installed it yet. First, I'd like to know if, since i have the original disc that came with the printer, should i install from the disc, or install the downloaded driver? (Both have the same date of release on them). Are they different somehow? Is one better than the other? Secondly, I'd like to know if i need to uninstall any software or drivers before i install the new one? Or will the new one just overwrite and "fix" the bad one? Thanks in advance for your help. I really appreciate it!
P.S. If i do need to uninstall anything, Please tell me exactly what to uninstall. Thanks!

Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Cb867A HP Officejet 4500 will not connect to network

I have tried over and over to connect my cb867A HP Officejet 4500 wireless printer, and it will not work.  I have changed cables, triple checked everything, uninstalled and re-installed software, and I cannot get this printer to work as a wireless printer. I have a Windows 7 64 bit Compaq laptop.  Any ideas on why this is not working? I am certain I am following the directions HP is giving. Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hello-
If you have a Officejet 4500 G510g , the printer is not wireless. You can use an ehternet cable and do a network install. That way any device that is wireless can use it as long as your on the same network.
The OJ 4500 G510n is wireless.
