HP Pavilion dv6000 - Blank screen

My HP Pavilion notebook PC, which is now almost 2 years old, is showing a blank screen. its not displaying anytihng at all. Not even on an external monitor. I was working on the pc when at once there came colored randonly moving lines and after sometime the screen went blank. i pressed a few keys randonly but somethin seem to work. so i shut down the computer by pressing the power button. when i restarted it, the screen was still blank though it seems that the computer did start tht is the touchpad's light were on, the cd drive also seemed to b fine.. as well as wifi etc.
any suggestions how i cud figure out wot actually the problem is?
i dont realy wanna take my computer to the repair shops here because they simply cant b trusted.

    Hello kiranreddy,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that your Notebook is not starting, that you have a blank screen and flashing LED's. I will try to help you with this.
I would like you to start with this document: Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps. This will help to try to identify if the Notebook is providing an error code. If it is, it will also provide steps to attempt to resolve the issue.
Please let me know how you make out with this. If you require further assistance with this please provide the Model and Product numbers for your Notebook. (How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?)

  • HP Pavilion DV6 blank screen caps lock flashing continuously

My laptop was working fine last night, this morning the screen stays blank, caps lock flashes once every 3 seconds or so continuously, the wireless light is solid amber, no other lights are on. I've tried a hard reset to no avail.
When I power it on it sounds like the fan spins up and it tries to boot, then 2 seconds later it is quiet and nothing happens, if I close the lid without powering off the outside light on the top of the case stays on so it is not shutting down or in sleep mode when the case is closed.
I've looked at a bunch of troubleshooting and none of the info seems to match this, any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

a single CAPS flash is a CPU failure, you can try following the below steps but it will most likely need to go in for repair
    power drain;-
    -remove battery and power cable
-hold power button for 20 seconds
    BIOS recovery;-
    -hold windows+B
-turn computer on keeping those keys held down
if the light is still flashing at this point you'll need to contact HP, if it is in warranty then the repair should be free, if not there will be a cost

  • Hp Pavilion 23 Blank Screen With Mouse Cursor After Hp Logo (Not Windows Logo)

Hello my computer wont start up all i get is a black screen but i have a mouse cursor. after a little bit the computer will restart and do a automatic repair but nothing happens it just keeps on rebooting. i tired to do a bio update but it seems to not be working. there is no option in the bios to update or even in UEFI. i also did a harddrive test and got a Short DST Check fail (FAILURE ID: 909HVX-0007K0-WPU2XF-60WH03) but i still can get access to the harddrive using a Linux LiveUSB and all files are there. (Product Number Is : H5P60AAR#ABA)

It is possible to receive a false DST check but not common.
It doesn't mean your hard has failed but that it is in imminent danger of failing.
You can try again but this time using the Extended DST test.
But before doing anything I suggest you back up all your important data using that live Linux boot disk just in case.
Every hard disk manufacturer has their own diagnostic boot cd/usb. Google it.
You should create one and run it for your brand hard drive.
You should be able to determine which brand you have from the BIOS/UEFI hardware tab.
While your'e in there double check that your boot priority is set to hard drive first.
Your other issue seems to be the dreaded 'Automatic Repair Loop' which could be caused by your possibly failing hard dirve. I would fully diagnose the hard drive first.
Here's a link with several suggested fixes. Some of them require a Windows 8 boot disk, other do not.

  • I have a HP Pavilion g6z-2200 upgraded to 8.1 got a blank screen,

i have a HP Pavilion g6z-2200 upgraded to 8.1 got a blank screen, revert back to 8, now i can't get any of my apps back because they want me to upgrade to 8.1 how do i know if it's safe?

    Hello @061210 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would try updating to Windows 8.1 again. Make sure all of your Windows updates on 8 or done before the 8.1 update. Then, as soon as you do the update, look for any new Windows updates and install those.
Worst-case scenario, you have to revert to Windows 8 again, but I doubt that will happen

  • Pavilion p7-110c blank screen on start-up

My Pavilion. P7-1107c has a blank screen on start-up. There is a white flashing underscore mark in the upper left corner.  I have tried the f-10 keystroke recommendation with no success. Lights and fans are operating, and the cable is securely connected. There is a one-second display on the monitor of the hp logo (the hand with the building blocks) a few seconds after start-up, which immediately disappears.

    Hi,
Your PC is listed as coming with Windows 7 64bit - if this is correct, try the following.
If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD.  Download the ISO from the link below.
    Windows 7 64bit
You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD into the PC and restart to boot from it.  Select the Repair option.
Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Start-up Repair – you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

If the above fails to help, make a note of any error messages you may get during the procedure and include them with your next post.

  • Pavilion H8-1240t boots to a blank screen ! ?

Every so often my 2 year old Pavilion with an AMD Radeon 7070 video card will boot to a blank screen and will continue to reboot over and over again until I pull the plug. Aside from this one snafu the PC works great !
The way I got it to boot right today was by reseating the video card and pulling out the battery on the motherboard for a few seconds. Is this common? What exactly is causing this problem?  HP Tech offers no answers whenever I call them?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Ok thanks for you reply..... I do not think it is the video card because my original H8-1240t came with an Nividia card and I sent it bacck because I was experiancing the same problem...... Is there a new bios that I should upgrade too?
The PC is working fine now.
Also my other related problem is that I have been unable to boot from my DVD rom drive. This machine never seems to reconize any boot disk that I place in it even though I have tried them successfully on other PC's.
The boot order setup screen is a bit confusing.... please explain.

  • Blank Screen on Pavilion A6600F

Mother-in-law's Pavilion A6600F mini tower seems dead.
Completely blank screen, no splash screen on boot-up attempts.
Confirmed that monitor works on another computer
Power supply light on the back of the unit is green and the power button on the top front of the unit turns on.
The power supply fan, cpu fan and back vent fan all run fine.
No splash screen and no beep on startup.
Replaced power supply with new one and no change.
Removed modem card and re-booted with no change.
un-hooked hard drive and CD drive and re-booted with no change.
Removed both memory sticks and re-booted with no change.
Only motherboard hooked up and still no splash screen and no beep on start-up but new power supply and all gans running fine.
I thought perhaps bad motherboard graphics adaptor but if I can't get to the bios to disable it I don't know if adding a discreet graphics card will make any difference.
    Any help Appreciated!

    Hi..
The only to check if the motherboard is faulty or no is the beep test.
    Follow this to check out.
    1. Remove the all memory sticks (RAM's) from the PC.
    2. Plugin the original power cord.
    3. Turn on the desktop without any memory sticks on the motherboard.
    4. Listen to any beep noises you get.
    5. If you get any beep noises (1-1-1) without the memory slots that means the motherboard is working fine.
    But,
If there is no beep noise without the memory's, the motherboard is faulty or dead.
This could also be the processor if there is no beep noise.
Both the components cannot be tested particularly apart from the above test.
In this case all the other components will work fine but its the motherboard.
Also if the motherboard is beeping without memory sticks then its the memory sticks.
Check out on the memory's then.
If you have any other questions or this does not fix the problem, REPLY.

  • HP Pavilion DV3 ( Scroll & Caps Lock LED's blinking four times + Blank Screen )

    Hi,
I have an HP Pavilion DV3-2157cl
When I press the power button, the screen remains blank. Also, the scroll & the Caps Lock buttons keep blinking four times.
Sometimes, the laptop works like nothing's wrong but Most of the time, it remains blank with the blinking lights!
    Can anyone help me?

i had a problem with my dv3 (blank screen keeps flashing) and used this method to reflow the graphics card/chip (see link below).  only try this method if you are at your wits end... and you are skilled with taking apart/putting together electronics.  it will take you a minimum of 1 hour (but most likely, about 2).  you will need a heat gun (about $10 - $20).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SziIr34Md0g
to prevent it from continually over heating, you can try the penny mod (google it).  that's what i did.  you basically take a penny and sand off both sides until it is the right thickness and solder it onto the heatsink.  you'll need to remove the sticky blue foam that HP used instead.
i also noticed that a laptop cooler placed under your laptop works well for keeping it cool.  it can be fixed again and again using the method above but it is time consuming.  to prevent getting a cold connection which leads to this problem, don't move the laptop.  yes, it sucks that you can't move it but that's the only option you have.

  • Pavilion DV4-1070ee got stuck on a blank screen and numlock and caps lock LED are blinking..

My pavilion dv4-1070 got stuck on a blank screen and numlock and caps lock LED are blinking... it happens when i update the BIOS.. please help... thanks

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the notebook giving you a black screen. I also noticed you said only the NumLock and Caps lock is blinking.
Now, the BIOS update could have because this but we won't know until you let me know how many times the LED blinks.
Here is a chart which will tell us what's causing the issue.

  • Pavilion G6-2264ca blank screen - BIOS corrupted?

Hello, I've been having problems with my G6, it's about a year old and suddenly the bottom half of the screen was pink and green colors for about a day, after that then whenever I booted it, the regular image would flash on the screen for a second and then go black, and now it just stays black. When I press the power button, the wifi and power LED's come on and I hear the DVD drive start up as normal, but I'm not sure if it goes beyond that because all I see is a black screen.
    I tried:
    -Hard reset
    -Reseat RAM
-Unplug one stick/other stick/both sticks of RAM, unplug HDD, all of the above
-Win+B when booting to recover BIOS, nothing seems to happen but it does give me a 2 blink notification on my caps lock, which supposedly means a corrupted BIOS?
-Tried recovering BIOS via bootable flash drive (Trying both wincrisis and PheonixTool methods)
-Swapped motherboard out for one I bought online, STILL gives me the same problem and error code (2 blinks).
Could it be an extremely rare coincidence that both are corrupted, or do you think it's something else?
    Help is appreciated!
(Or if anything, does anyone know how to view your whole hard-drive with another computer? I hooked it up to my desktop and I could only see Public, Default, and Admin under Users and they were all empty in both Windows and Linux, even when I tried to take ownership with windows!)

    Hello derf321,
I see that you're having an issue with the notebook loading to a blank screen. I will try to help you with this.
Reading over your post, you've done the troubleshooting for beep/blink codes. It is possible that there is other faulty hardware.

  • Blank screen after poweroff

First of all, sorry for my language. I'm french (I've posted my problem on the french forum here but it hasn't been solved yet.
    THE PROBLEM :
When I shutdown my desktop computer using any command ('shutdown -h now' 'halt' of using the syslinux poweroff, and even when I try to suspend with 'pm-suspend'), I have a blank screen when I try to turn the PC on. And then the screen says "no signal". Even the BIOS doesn't appear.
I have to use the RESET button of my tower to see the BIOS appear
First I didn't have the problem with the command 'reboot', but it's the same now (since I changed my CMOS battery).
And since that I have also to RESET several times to get the BIOS.
    MY CONFIG :
    - kernel : 3.14.2-1-ARCH
    - openbox + slim
    - bootloader syslinux
    - graphic card : NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS + current Nvidia driver (my card is not recognized by 'nouveau')
    - motherboard : ASUSTeK P5PL2-E
    - BIOS version : 0904 (up to date stable version)
    - CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU E2180 @ 2.00GHz
    - Screen : ACER G246HL (DVI connected)
WHAT I'VE TRIED SO FAR :
    - unplug the computer, wait, plug it.
    - reinstall the packages : nvidia nvidia-utils nvidia-libgl xorg-server xorg-xinit xorg-server-utils
    - boot on the arch's liveUSB and shutdown from there >> same problem
    - boot with the kernel options 'noacpi noapic nolapic'
    - desactivate the QuickBoot option on the BIOS (it seemed to work but finally not)
    - use the LTS kernel
    - open the computer and clean everything inside, check that everything is OK, even change the CMOS battery
    - run memetest86+ >> no error
    - check the CPU temperature
    WHAT I FOUND (quite similar):

  • Blank screen after bios update

    Hi everybody!
My friend asked me to take a look at her computer. It was quite old HP pavilion 6525en. Before reinstalling windows I checked that she got first version of bios and decided to upgrade it. Sadly, after reboot I found myself in deep problem. There was a blank screen. I decided to look around in internet and found that its a common problem. (have updated lots of bios, but never happened stuff like that). So I found couple articles about Phoenix crisis recovery and decided to try that. Should I know something before I dive in? I know that I need thumb drive or usb floppy and how to enter CRM (crisis recovery mode), but all these sounds scares me a bit. How long does beeping takes after thumb drive stops flashing? Can it overheat, coz I found that fan won't slow down? can anything burn during this? (I know, lots of questions, but I'm cautious, coz I just wanted to do a good job for my friend and now it seems that I might have to get her a new computer )  p/n: GT391EA#ABB. Any help would be appreciated.

There is no harm in trying crisis recovery, the recovery should take 2-5 minutes, you should get some sort of signal or sign when it is done, most systems will automatically restart when done.
I don't know of any reason it would overheat during crisis recovery.
