HP Support Assistant Uninstalls L7780 printer

I have a HP Officejet L7780 connected wirelessly to my HP TouchSmart 600 (Windows7 64-bit). I’m running the Full Featured OfficeJet software dated 1/15/2010.
Each time the HP Support Assistant runs it finds no pending actions. However, it removes my L7780 Printer. The printer does not show up in the Device & printers or any printer drop down boxes. The L7780 FAX is still there. Every time the Support Assistant summary shows up (This morning was the latest) when I boot my computer I check the Device & printer and sure enough the Printer is gone, but the FAX is still there.
When I look at the Support Assistant it shows red X (dated 4/17/2010, 5/10/2010, and 8/2/2010) for the “Cannot find scanned image or document after scanning critical update”. However, if I download and attempt to install the update I get a dialog stating “This update does not support any HP device drivers that you have on your PC. You do not need this software update.”

I've come to the end. I don't know what to do. The printer has never given me any problems except every time I get an update, it stops working off my computer. It works fine by itself, but the wireless connection to my computer is weird in the past I've had to uninstall all the software and then reinstall and everything will work fine until I get an update and I have to go through it all over again. This time, that didn't work the wireless Wizard keeps saying invalid WPA passphrase I checked thoroughly, I've got the right passphrase off the back of the router. I don't know what else to try if anyone knows what to do about this. I would sure appreciate it.
Thanks

  • Home Office Network Software Challenges - Post HP Support Assistant Update

    Hi
I have an existing home office network setup on an HP Officejet 7410 with assistance from 'Dean' at the end of 2009 / early 2010.
Essentially I have a relatively new HP Compaq 6000 Pro MT Windows 7 32 bit main desktop connected by ethernet  to a Netgear DG834GT router, a wirelessly connected Vista Business 32 bit laptop I use when in London and a secondary wirelessly connected family XP Pro Desktop.
All has been running smoothly until fairly recent HP Support Assistant updates for the main desktop - this has caused the HP all in one not to function and corrupted the HP Support Assistant software.  I have tried uninstalling the HP 7410 software and have had to use Revo Uninstaller on a medium setting to remove some stubborn programme elements.
I am now unable to reinstall using the Full HP Software suite but have managed to get the printer part working using the basic HP driver download.
Can anyone provide assistance as to how to get back my computer and printer functionality ?
I did try contacting HP support but as it is an old printer they will not provide support (without considerable charge) despite being related to their own HP update software on my somewhat newer (but again out of warranty) Win 7 main desktop.
If I can not solve this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling the software I will be forced to consider a new printer (for which I will get support)  but currently the most likely candidate is going to be a move to Epson which would be a shame after over 15 years of sticking with HP.
I look forward to hearing of any possible solutions but please let me know if you need any further info from my end.

Sorry to hear you also have a similar issue.  I tried every thing I knew but unfortunately due to the lack of support I gave up ,and ended up purchasing a new printer from a competitor after 15 years of using HP printers.  It was a great shame as HP had always been the leading choice for me as a small business.

HP ENVY Phoenix h9-1420t CTO Desktop PC
    Windows 8.1 Pro w/Media Center - 64 bit
For some unknown reason, HP Support Assistant has stopped working. I noticed that the large taskbar icon was gone.
I tried to run the program just out of curiousity. "HP Support Assistant has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly ..." etc. This is reproduceable. The program will not start.
So, I tried to uninstall it from Control Panel. It appears to start to uninstall, but then I get an error message. "Error 1316 A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\windows\Installer\HP Support Assistant.msi" When I click "OK" it rolls back. This is also reproduceable.
I have tried downloading the software again from HP: sp64126.exe I accept the license agreement and proceed. I get a message that files already exist and do I want to overwrite them all or not. INo matter what I choose, nothing happens. The installation window simply disappears and I am back to square one.
Windows is fully updated. I am using Norton Intertent Security 21 -- fully updated.

  • HP Pavilion g7 can't find or re-install HP Support Assistant & HP Solution Center

After a week or so ago, I discovered my printer could no longer scan. Made several (& I mean several) attempts at following the instructions to install the full driver for my HP Photosmart C7180 printer.
I then ordered the full drive CD for Window 7 (64) from HP and I am still having problems.
After going around and around trying to get it to work; uninstalling and re-installing everything listed in the Support & Downloads on the HP website. I discovered both my HP Support Assistant and my HP Solution Center are no longer on my computer. They won't re-install either following the instructions per HP Support & Download on HP's website.
I have no clue how to get things straightened out.
The most frustrating thing is there seems to be many other people with printer/scan problems even with other printers. Everything I have read so far as a solution to their problems is the same thing I have been trying to do.
    Someone please enlighten me?

    Hey Fasteddie0747,
I understand you are having an issue with the HP  Support Assistant & HP Solution Center installing on your Hp Pavilion g7.
Here are some step you could check on your Computer,
Click the Windows icon, type services in the Search box, and then click or tap View Local Services. Scroll down to the Windows Installer. Startup type should be - Automatic, and Service Status should be - Started
restart the computer and try installing again.

  • HP Support Assistant Windows 7 Home Premium HP Pavillion dv6 3132tx

I downloaded the latest version of hp support assistant with all the security disabled ie trend micro windows firewall and windows defender and when i went to use the support assistant it shows no product name or number and it goes through a scan process ect ect and then it says it has never scanned anything.
This has occured previously but some how fixed itself in the last version i dont know what it did to itself to fix itself and hp seem to be as useful as **bleep** on a bull when it comes to help with a product after they have the money out of you

    Hi,
Try this alternative method as follows.
Unless you still have the installer, download the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the page on the link below - the download links are towards the bottom of the page - and save the installer to your Downloads folder.
    http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html
Next, if you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip.  Please note, if you have a 64bit installation, download and install the .msi 64-bit x64 installer on the link below.
    http://www.7-zip.org/
Next, right click the HPSA installer you download earlier, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok.  Open the newly extracted folder, right click on UninstallHPSA and select 'Run as Administrator' - you may well see no progress of this attempted uninstallation, so leave the notebook to idle for a good 10 minutes before restarting it.
Open your Downloads folder and delete the ‘extracted HPSA folder’ so you are just left with the original installer you downloaded.
Now, run the Microsoft 'Fixit' on the link below and use it to install the new version of HPSA.

  • HP Support Assistant Not Finding Updates

Over the past couple of months I have setup around 10 different Probook 450 G2 laptops. When I run HP Support Assitant to install driver and BIOS updates it always comes back that there are no updates available. Yet when I go to the product page for the notebook and compare the latest driver version to what is installed on the laptop, the current driver on the laptop is out of date. I have tried uninstalling HP Support Assistant both through the control panel and using the Microsoft Fix-It uninstaller and installed the latest version but the result is the same. This is very frustrating and time consuming when I have to manually download the updates for each piece of hardware. Is this a known issue? It would be great if this program could work as designed, but at this point I am considering just not using it at all. I experienced the same problem on a Probook 650 G1 as well.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • HP Support Assistant v. 8.0.29.6

The current version of HP Support Assistant is by far the best one that HP has ever released!!!  I do have one minor issue though.  I have two HP printers connected to my Pavilion p6-2100, an HP Officejet 6500 and an HP Color Laserjet 1600. The support assistant recognizes my pavilion computer, the officejet 6500 but does not detect my color laserjet printer.  When I go to the drivers section from HP's home page and let the website autodetect my computer and accessories, it detects all three.  Is there a way to manually key this information into HP Support Assistant.

Can you kindly assist with the URL for the download link as in "ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp68001-68500/sp68021.exe"?It doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

  • How can I delete updates that I don't want from HP Support Assistant?

I keep getting pop-ups from HP Support Assistant that I have updates.  The only updates in there are 2 optional updates to install BING, which I don't want.  Is there any way to delete these 2 optional updates so that I won't keep getting that pop-up??  Thank you very much!

It is as simple as "right click" on the BING update and select "hide". When you re-enter the update program, you will notice the BING update is not shown.

After upgrading to Win 7 from Vista I am unable to install the HP support assistant.  First I get this error:  Error 1316 The specified account already exists.  After clicking OK I get the following error msg:  Error: -1603  Fatal error during installation.  Consult windows installer help (MSI CHM) or MSN for more info.  This is then followed up with the following msg:  HP support assistant not installed successfully.  An error occurred during the installation: -3  Then it rolls back the installation and will not install.  HP support assistant was working under Vista.

  • Pavilion dv7 blue screening - HP support assistant cannot test BIOS or memory modules but BIOS can?

About a month ago my dv7 started doing something strange - during normal use (not gaming, just word processing, showing a powerpoint presentation, showing a video on youtube, etc.) the cooling fan speed would suddenly ramp up to jet-engine speed and shortly thereafter the computer would blue screen, crash dump, etc. (no, I did not write down any info from the blue screen message - I will do so next time). Having experienced a blue screen issue with a Dell laptop I thought the hard drive was going bad, because about the same time I was suddenly unable to run a backup of the hard drive. After several attempts, I was finally able to backup the hard drive, and then replaced it with a new drive, re-installed OS with my recovery flash drive, worked through all of the windows updates that were recommended, and thought everything would be good to go. Now I have no problems backing up hard drive, etc. Then on day 2, after only a few hours of use, the cooling fan speed suddenly ramped up again and the blue screen returned.
A friend who is a tech suggested running HP diagnostics on everything, so I rebooted, hit F2, and started by testing the hard drive; as expected, no problems there. I next tried to test the memory (8192 MB total in two modules), and the test failed. I also tried testing the BIOS, and that too failed. The HP diagnostics reported that it couldn't even read the BIOS. Hmmm, strange. So I re-booted, hit F10, and went into the BIOS (BIOS date 10/5/11, revision F.1B). I HAVE NOT IN ANY WAY MODIFIED THE BIOS - I'm good, but not that good. Via the BIOS test utility, I tested both memory modules independently and then together, and everything checked out fine. I also tried switching modules between slots and re-tested via the BIOS utility, and that too checked out. I then returned to the HP diagnostics utility and tried re-testing the memory (both modules together - failed, one module at a time - both failed, in both slots).
HP tech experts, can you give me any guidance? This has been a great machine for me, I have taken good care of it, and am hoping to get a few more years out of it (I'm a middle-school science teacher, can't afford another one at this point). If I can't find a fix, I may have to go back to using my antique overhead projector in my classroom...

    Hi @h20roks ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv7 and  getting the BSOD and shutting down. I recommend to restore the BIOS defaults with this document selecting the reloading the BIOS default settings. Not rollback.
Here is a link to the HP Support Assistant if you need it. Just download and run the application and it will help with the software and drivers on your system that could need updating.
    Hope this helps you.
