HT1414 I am unable to connect to iCloud as it keeps saying unable to verify Apple ID even though I've changed password several times to overcome this, only had the phone yesterday

Please can anyone explain why I'm unable to connect to iCloud, it doesn't seem to accept my Apple ID and password, keeps saying unable to verify, I've changed the password several times to no avail, the phone is brand new and only purchased yesterday.

I have an iphone 5 and ipad. I paid for icloud. I "think" iphone is okay but ipad keep saying can't verify account. I can't change that. Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID verify the changes, enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone".
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, verify it once again, delete the iCloud account from your device and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

I just downloaded the os6 and i also just tried to do the updates with icloud. but now it keeps telling me could not verify the account, to check my email for instructions. i check the email, had to reset my password and then nothing, can't get the account verified...someone please help

Log onto http://appleid.apple.com and Click teh Send Verification email again.
Respond to the email and sign into your account with your creditials.

My collegue who also has an Ipad can access the same wifi with ease, so it must be something to do with the settings on my machine, although checking the two machines, there appears to be no difference in the settings.

My experience with hotel wifi is that it's an open, and unsecured, connection, but unless you agree to their terms on a launch page, you can't go any further or connect. Sometimes I need to force safari to come up and even make it go to a page, to trigger the auto load of the 'agree to our terms' page.
Unless your machine is work provided so maybe could be blocked from unsecured net access?

Anything is possible.
it could be off or not connected to wi-fi.
It could have been found and restored.
In any of these cases you will not be able to find it.

Even though my email accounts seem to be set up when i press the email icon it just lists icloud, EOL etc and asks for new account to be set up

Email had been set up and receiving and sending email but seems that no longer working. Have i bumped something and how do i fix it.

Today I did a sync and was notified of two app updates, but was unable to use my old password and was notified to use my Apple ID. However, when I log in with my Apple ID, the store tells me that I do not own the apps.
How can I get this system to update my iPod apps.

Certainly not happy with this situation, as Apple expects me to pay for help on this.

1. Don't confuse "Apple ID" with iTunes Account ID. You can have many Apple IDs but only one iTunes account active at a time.
2. If you "changed" your iTunes account ID, you actually have 2 accounts - one under the old name plus the new name.
3. You can't merge the accounts - they remain separate. Apps purcahsed under the old account name will update ONLY WHEN THE PHONE IS SIGNED IN TO THE OLD ACCOUNT NAME and visa versa.
4. Likewise, you can sync only the apps, music, media purchased under the account the phone AND iTunes are signed in to.

If you've not yet tried, unpower the AppleTV for a minute or so and restart - this occasionally corrects issues.
If not and the software update seems to have caused an issue, go to the Settings menu and choose to Restore it (this will erase all settings) to reapply current firmware.
Alternatively try to do so via iTunes:

You are as far as you can be with the original iPad; only iPad 2 and greater will update to 7+
