HT1657 I rented a movie but the picture is unviewable? What do I do?

I've been renting moview from iTunes for years now, but I just tried renting 47 Ronin, but when clicking to play it show many distorted horizontal lines, hence the movie is unviewable. Audio works fine though. I took a screen shot of it, but for some reason the horizontal distorted lines do not appear on the iTunes movie screen...I'm bewildered by why I can't view it?? Any suggestions? I'm worried I'll get charged even if I can't view it.

Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iTunes when viewing a movie rental. Let’s see if we can isolate this issue by starting iTunes in safe mode:

There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
- Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
- Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
- Slow performance.
- iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
- You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
Furthermore, does the issue only happen with this one movie? Or all movies?

Hi - I rented a movie from iTunes and was charged for the rental. It downloaded to my iPhone 5 over wi-fi as usual, but on completion of the download, it then didn't appear in my movies app on the iphone. I can't find it either on iTunes in my account on my computer. But iTunes seems to think that I've already downloaded it, but I can't find it anywhere or watch it. Help! I had the same issue with my apple tv 3rd generation. I rented Sinister and selected the "rent and watch now" option. Half way through the movie I accidentally pressed the menu button. When I looked for the rented movie on my apple tv I could not find it. Not even above the movie pannel where "purchased" and "top movies" comes up on the main menu. the apple tv suggests to go to settings>downloads but I don't have that option. I did go to settings> itunes store> check rentals but that didnt work either. It took too long to even check. Thank you because this SOLUTION worked great.
SOLUTION: How to reset apple tv 3 3rd generation to view rented movies:on the apple tv remote: press and hold "menu" to go to the main menu. Select SETTINGS> GENERAL >RESET >RESET ALL SETTINGS. After the apple tv resets, input all your information again and your rented movies should be visible when you cruise above the "movies" section. THANK YOU!!
Apple needs to solve this issue because honestly it took me 3 hours and a half to watch a movie that only lasted 2 BECAUSE I wast trying to solve the issue, reseting and all. blahh.

I was downloading a rented movie but could not finish the download before I had to board a plane. I went to play the movie on the plane but received an error message and could not watch it. I was charged for the rental. Can I get a credit?

You can also Report a Problem via the link in your Purchase Invoice e-mail or from your iTunes account Purhcase History by logging into your Account Settings in iTunes on a computer.

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

I have the same problem. Rented a movie, cannot get it to play. I don't seem to be having internet connection problems (sucessfully streaming HD content from Netflix right now on the same device) and I have rebooted and even reset the AppleTV device already with no improvement.
Something going on in a data center somewhere at Apple tonight? This stuff used to work fine.

I am a new user to apple ipad. I want to rent a movie, but when I select that option I don't see that it is downloading anywhere. Where should I look, is there some inside trick I need to know. Thanks

The movie is from iTunes. You would think that a download from iTunes to a MacBook could be watched on an HDTV using Apple TV without any headaches bit this does not appear to be the case.

The movie would be in your iTunes library, in the Movies application. However, if the rental period has expired, you may need to contact the iTunes Store Support about your situation:

Hi guys, I've been given some .mov files to use. When I play them I can hear the audio but the pictures are green. The client says they play for him. I am on mac 10.5.8 and FCP 6.0.6. Any clues as to why this is happening?

The files details are the same as a file that will play.

16-bit Integer (Little Edition)
I've been told this happened to somebody else last week, but didn't get a resaon why.
Any clues as to why this is happening? I suspect it's a codec issue of some sort

Did you rent the movie on your iPad? Are you trying to watch it on your iPad?
Do you have WiFi connectivity when trying to start viewing the movie?
You should have answered "yes" to all the above. If not, that is probably the source of your issue.
