It allows one to remove Java 7 but does not allow for the reinstallation of Java 6. I updated my OS from Snow Leopared to Mt Lion and now I can no longer play Yahoo games. Historically, this issue recurrs. You'd think that the makers of Java would be bright enough to design software without these repetitive compatability issues. When you go to Java.com, they tell you that in order to reinstall Java 6, that one must go to Apples website, which contains the above worthless information. Nothing like being led around in circles.

From here on forward Java updating and maintenance is being handled bi Oracle. All previous versions are obsolete and will be automatically disabled by the system. The current installer is here: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

    That's not a good enough reason to install an update, it never was, and it never will be.
    "Do it because we say so" might fly overseas in Foxconn factories, but around here we don't like being kept in the dark and fed a load of fertilizer.

    The individual update pages, such as this one, list the changes and fixes. The reference to information which Apple doesn't release is about security bugs it's identified but not patched, as it would only be useful to attackers.

    ADU stopped existing after 10.6. I see this article was updated in May; that means two revisions of OSX which don't contain this utility have been announced or released at that time yet it's still wrong. It's near the top of google rankings, making this a crappy thing to do to your users who are looking for information, Apple.

    Yes, you are correct - there is no longer a Airport Disk Utility. It was discontinued. That article was accurate up until 10.7 was introduced.
    You cannot call "from the main window of AirPort Disk Utility enable "Show AirPort Disks in the menu bar"" a 'typo' - it is flat-out wrong, as that menu option no longer exists at all. So the instructions can not be applicable.
    This could be corrected simply by adding "10.6 and earlier OSX versions" or the like to the products affected list. But leaving this entirely unusable set of unstructions up as it stands is misleading and counter-productive.

    issue with my iphone 4s bluetooth. I'm unable to pair my phone with my Motorola S9 Headset. i have paired these two devices in the past and the pairing still works between my headset and my iphone 4.(i do unpair these 2 when trying to pair my 4s and said headset) I have done all the standard rebooting/ turning on& off of the phone and headset that you could imagine without result. this is what it looks like, I will turn on the headset, my phone will discover it, I will tap the icon that relates to the Motorola S9, and after a few seconds a message pops up informing me that the headset should be turned on and that I may need to enter a pairing code. ( there is no option for entering said code that I can find) Also, the same time the bluetooth stopped working for my headset, it also stopped working for my vehicle. to me, this is a phone issue not a device issue. oh, last thing, this all started after powering down my phone a number of times during air travel. any assistance would be appreciated...

    If Safari is getting very slow:
    (Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)

    Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
    Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
    Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The later versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

    Steps #1 to #9 are verification processes that are correct for me. In fact the issue I'm trying to find a solution for - background tasks window not appearing when selected - started after the latest update of FCPX
    This article does not tell me how to re-set preferences - it tells me how to trash the program - 'dramatic' or 'drastic' action for what should be relatively simple. 
    The Brave New World is light hearted reference that I suppose is relative. Having worked in the former Final Cut Pro software for over 10 years, have been using FCPX for well over a year now and I like the TOOL.
    I also use Adobe Premiere Pro - and what tool I use depends on what I'm cutting, for whom and where.
    I tutor editing to digital media uni students using these digital media tools.
    Now. Is there anyone out there who can actually help me with this issue?

  • HT1449 Ok. I have an '06 Macbook Pro still running on Snow Leopard 10.6.8, and iTunes 10.6.1. I did everything in this article leading up to step 14. I thought I trashed the right file, now I can't access my music which is on my external drive now. Help!

    As stated in my above Subject field. I have an older Macbook Pro and I was attempting to move my iTunes media file using this article:

    After getting to step number 14, I "thought" I selected the correct media file to trash from my system. Now I have my correctly copied Itunes file on my external drive that can't be accessed when I reopen iTunes. How can I get iTunes to open to my new destination now? I went to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced and selected the new location then click OK, but it still won't access.
    What am I doing wrong here?

    I had the same problem and found the answer! 
    In Outlook, go to the Help menu, then Check for Updates.
    I downloaded & updated Outlook, then it upgraded my database, and everything worked out fine for me!

    I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
    She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when  they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
    What can i do now?

    I would buy nothing less than Windows 7 64-bit Pro.
    32-bit only addresses 3.5 GB RAM ... 2012 Macminis can hold 16 GB.
    64-bit Home addresses 16 GB RAM.
    64-bit Pro addresses 192 GB RAM and han an XP mode.
    This is all about having a good version of Windows for future use.  Yu can buy "Syem Builder" version of 64-bit Pro for $140.
