HT6114 OS 10.9.2 upgrade stalled

Hello
I have been trying to update to OS 10.9.2 (from 10.9.1) following a software update notice, but the upgrade froze after just a few minutes and nothing has happened for about 5 hours. How can I quit?? What can I do to restart? I'm not sure when the last backup was, so I'm very worried.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Yesterday, I finally shut down my computer by holding the start button, then restarted. It took a long time to start but finally did restart in 10.9.2. This was surprising becuase the "progress bar" had never indicated any progress in installing 10.9.2. It just seemed to hang at the very beginning of the bar, as if it had a long time to go before the upgrade would be complete. Anyway, the upgrade worked...just very scary because of the warnings not to interrupt the process. All's well that ends well??

  • 11.1.1.6 upgrade stalls on 'Error in writing.... awt.dll

    Hi,
I am upgrading from 11.1.1.5 to 11.1.1.6 and the upgrade stalls with the error that it cannot write c:\oracle\middleware\oracle\Oracle_Bi1\jdk\jre\bin\awt.dll - the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process...
Before I started this windows stand alone upgrade I stopped all services - is there anything else that can be using this file - anyone suggest what I need to kill to continue?
    thanks,
    Robert.

Assuming you came across this thread and checked out the Metalink note mentioned in there already: Problems with patch 10.2.0.3 installation
Did you try using the Process Explorer utility to see what program has the file locked down?

iphone 4S iOs 6.1 upgrade stalled on my PC -- what can I do?

This is good. Now you can use iTunes to Update or Restore your iPhone 4S to iOS 6.1. iTunes has to download it at some point, so now it is there which is good. If you want, you can always delete it, but this is not necessary.

  • SL to Lion Upgrade Stall - Does Upgrading ever work?

I've been running Server across several versions.
Thought I'd try upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion, despite the fact that NONE of these upgrades ever work.
Apple didn't let me down - the upgrade to my Snow Leopard server stalls at "Upgrading Services" and won't proceed past this point.
I of course have a bootable backup, so I'm still in business but I need to have some clues from an experienced upgrader what I might do to assist this process to complete.
Alternatively, I may have to consider a migration although I'm not particularly experienced at this kind of server operation.
    Suggestions?

We have not been able to upgrade this server.  We've tried on three separate occasions - once while working the problem with medium-level Apple engineering in Austin.  We are running on a couple dozen users, with minimal services - mail, DNS, DHCP, and address book as you.
We've tried upgrading both the server drive, as well as the backup drive.  Both stall during the upgrade and it never completes.
We've also tried once after 10.7.2 came out, downloading Lion and Lion server fresh thinking/hoping that the bugs would have been squashed.
    No dice.
In the current financial climate we're unwilling to pay a consultant to migrate everything to a new installation, and put up with the inevitable service disruptions and instability that generally occurs during this process.  Our current Snow Leopard server is rock-solid after a rocky period early on.
A agree that Apple seems to be disinterested in these issues now - perhaps if the server ran on the iPhone we'd have more luck getting support!

  • Yosemite (OSX 10.10) upgrade stalled

I am trying to upgrade from Maverick to Yosemite on my Macbook Pro 15 with Retina display.  It is stalled for 6 hours.  Any recommendations appreciated.
    Thank You.

Also, the third-party 'Memory Management' utility may not be updated or optimized for use with Yosemite.
I'd disable it for now. Best way to check if it fully supports 10.10 is to switch to the dark finder mode, and check if the memory util works with dark finder (i.e.: fonts in menu aren't invisible/hard to see, etc). I agree however, if you're in the 16-32GB of RAM availability, you should not need these third-party RAM utilities - let the OS perform its own management. It's really only handy for 2006-2008 users with 2-4GB of installed memory.

  • Boot Camp Slipstream Says a Full Install is an Upgrade, Stalls Out?

I'm attempting to install XP on a 2.16 GHz C2D MBP with Snow Leopard. I have created a 20gb partition using the Boot Camp Assistant. I have created a slipstream CD-R from a combination of a XP SP1 disc (bought the first day XP was released!) and the FULL SP2 service pack as recommended. I followed instructions for the slipstream creation to the letter. Same for the CD.
The install starts up and I declare I want a full install and not a recovery. Then I receive an error notice telling me I have an upgrade disc and must use a FULL copy for the install. Without a way to eject the slipstreamed disc and put the full SP1 disc in, for verification, I am stuck. I see no mentions of this problem anywhere.
I have seen comments concerning similar issues suggest a problem in the disc creation. But I have done the process three times now, revealing all hidden files and ensuring the use of the same legacy burning software mentioned in the slipstream creation posts.
As Boot Camp still offers to download necessary files, a feature that apparently NEVER worked, I am interested to know if anyone can really help me. I live in China and see boot camped Macs everywhere. But they all have hacked copies of XP or 7 running. I want to use a legal copy. How?
I'm installing XP to keep access to great scanners unsupported on Mac and play older videogames.

If you've already done a search in these forums and couldn't find anything then your best bet would be a Yahoo/Google search, (or what ever is used over there.)
Unfortunately it sounds like it still didn't slipstream right, have you tried using it on a Windows machine and see it it works?
Another option is to download a non legal version ( if you can find a "clean" version) then just install your legal serial number. Or even a friends copy of a SP2 or SP3 version and use your serial number instead. From what i've read quite a few gave up and did the same.

  • HT6114 I am trying to upgrade to Mavericks from 10.6.8.  When it tells me to close all applications, Safari will not close and I cannot proceed.  What to do?

I am trying to upgrade to Mavericks from 10.6.8.  It tells me to close all open applications.  However, Safari will not close and the installation cannot proceed.  Any suggestions?

Either try to force quit Safari (press Command + Option + Escape keys and then choose force quit in the pop up window), or, you can also shut down the computer. Then boot up and open the app store application to download Mavericks - you don't need Safari for it.

  • Upgrading stalled.

I have a 10.6.8 os x maverick running snow leopard. Yesterday when I went to App store, clicked on os x Maverick then free upgrade it began to download.  Hours later it still showed that it was downloading.  This morning I still was on Mobile Me rather than ICloud which I now need since I have a new 5s iphone. What do I do now to upgrade my system?  Also, now I cannot access my internet provider and am using the internet service provided to buidling residents.  Why can't my provider be used?

use a wired (not wireless) connection.

  • Latest upgrade stalled my computer

This morning I downloaded and installed the latest upgrade to Leopard and when my computer restarted it go stuck on the light screen with the grey apple and no cursor. I powered down and restarted the computer and when I pushed the power button I got a loud tone and then the chimes followed by the same light grey screen with the darker apple and no cursor. That is where it's been for a couple hours. I tried rebooting with the shift key down but nothing. Help!!

Hi Carlos. You really should start a new post for your issue. What update did you install please?
Try things in Apple doc.#106464 for your startup issue. The article says it is for 10.3.9 and down but it still applies to 10.4 systems.
Also, try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk.
Let us know what errors DU reports and if it was able to repair them.

  • PLEASE HELP - Big problem upgrading to Micro Firmware 2.11.02 (for Napster to

    Hey all,
I have been viewing this forum since I got my Micro last December, and have thankfully never needed it before. But boy do I need it now.
Today I was finally persuaded to give Napster to Go a try. I was running my Micro on firmware .02 (I had to get a replacement from Creative in March for a headphone jack problem, and it came with that firmware installed - everything worked great). So I went to try to to upgrade to 2..02 so I could connect with Napster. First I updated my computer to Windows SP2 (I am running XP Pro). Then I went and tried to install the firmware - it started doing it, and then said "Your player is not starting properly. Please reboot and try again." Or something like that. So I rebooted, through recovery mode, several times to no avail. So then I did a disk clean up, and ran a format disk, and finally "reload firmware" off the recovery menu.
After running reload firmware (having downloaded the firmware update to my PC first), I tried again, and it started working, it was going through the process fine - my player said "updating firmware" and everything. Then, I got a "detected new hardware" message from Windows, and then the "Find New Hardware" wizard came up. I cancelled it, but then the firmware upgrade stalled. For like 5 minutes, no PC activity at all. So I finally shut it down manually. Then my computer wouldn't recognize the player, so I re-installed the drivers off the installation disk - still nothing. And now, when I try to install the firmware off my PC, it says "player is not connected." Worse, since my Micro seemingly now has no firmware at ll, it won't even shut down - it just keeps turning on and going to recovery mode unless I take the battery out.
Please, please can anyone give me a fix for this. I would love to use Napster2Go, but at this point I would be happy just to get my Micro running again, on any firmware.
    Thanks in advance - PK

Do you have Windows Media Player 0 installed? You might want to try the player on another Windows Media Player 0 PC and see if the player occur also.

  • Installing Photoshop through CC on an iMac (Mavericks) fails at 90 percent - ASU has quit unexpectedly.

Trying to install Photoshop CC 2014 through Creative Cloud on an iMac running Yosemite. I have the CC Photography plan, although I first attempted the install during the demo period and the end result was identical to now.
    The install stops at 90%.
It seems that the main installer actually succeeds (Photoshop is left in a usable state) but maybe fails to register itself properly with CC.
If I restart CC, Photoshop shows as installed, but with an upgrade available.  If I try to upgrade then it stalls at 50%.
The failure in /Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers/Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 15.0 01-07-2015.log.gz is "ASU has quit unexpectedly."
    ~/Library/Logs/PDapp.log says:

If I uninstall and re-install it stops at 90% again.
Rebooting doesn't help, either in normal mode or into safe mode with no other apps running.
I've logged out of CC and back in again.
So far the problem is consistent and reproducible every time.
    Lightroom installed with no errors.

I'd already forwarded the logs to Varun.
It seems your mail system is also not fit for purpose.  If an email containing a zip file generated by one of your own tools is silently dropped then how is that usable by support?
As I explained to Varun on the phone, I use this computer for work and I'm connected to a corporate VPN so for company confidentiality reasons I'm not willing to give him access.  However I'm happy to be guided through any steps sensible required outside of office hours...
So to that end I spent over an hour on the phone with Varun to no avail.
I do not feel that anyone I have spoken to has any real expertise.  No one has looked at the log files that I have supplied.  Varun hadn't read up on the case history or forum post.  He started off asking me to download Creative Cloud as if I hadn't already done that already.  His main suggestion was to install the software as root, which is dumb for a couple of reasons as a) OS X does not allow the root user to have a graphical session for security reasons, root privileges are accessed via sudo.  b) the installer uses sudo anyway to install as root:admin rendering his suggestion meaningless.
For the record, and so that other people know what DOESN'T help, the other suggestions that Varun asked me to try are:
    1) changing the permissions of /Library/Application Data/Adobe/ and ~/Library/Application Data/Adobe/ and all the folders bellow so that everyone has read and write access (doing so for the latter directory also makes no sense since all the files and directories below it are owned by my and the only users involved are my user and root and both already had full access).  Needless to say the upgrade stalled at 50% as before and the same failures were reported in the logs.
    2) launching the update from within Photoshop itself (from the 'Help' menu, click [Update..]).  The install won't proceed as it says that 'Adobe Application Manager' is running.  I can see that the Adobe Application Manager is launched when Photoshop is started, but at Varun's insistence I still rebooted my machine and tried again.  Surprise, surprise, Adobe Application Manager was launched when Photoshop started and the upgrade refused to proceed in the same way.
    3) downloading the Photoshop installer outside of CC and installing that.  The install succeeds, but CC still says that an update is pending.  Clicking update results in the same hang at 50%.
That was the sum total of the suggestions I received.  I need someone who understands the logs (ideally someone who at least has source code access) to have a read through as I feel all the key information is there.  I don't think that having a 1st line support person hacking around on my machine without reference to the information I've already supplied is of any benefit to anyone.  I don't like having my time wasted.
Varun agreed to escalate the issue last night, but I've not heard anything since, and tomorrow is that day that I have to cancel my subscription if this is not resolved.
Given that I've not had any use out of these products over the last month (why invest time in a product that you're likely to throw out of the window?), the idea of paying a month's for the last month's subscription would be rather galling.  I don't like the general concept of software as a service anyway, but especially as I have received no service even with an active subscription, this appears to be the nail in the coffin for me.
I've asked several times now, but can you please give me the details of how I can make a complaint.
    Thanks,
    Gavin.

  • Iphone disconnection to itunes + start-up  issue

    Hello Everyone,
Attempted to upgrade my iphone 4 to iOS 5 but ran into a number of headaches. The initally upgrade stalled numerous times on the "back-up portion" of the upgrade. Fearing the worst, I restored my phone which appears to have created a bigger problem - my phone is blank and will not connect to itunes for system upgrade. what it's currently doing  is loading from spinning circle to the apple logo on infinite loops. i'm running a 10th month old macbook pro, OS is upgrade. I test my UBS with a nano and it works perfectly so the problem is def. comning from the phone. Do you have any advice? I desperately need to get it up and running ASAP.
    Thanks a million.
    CW

Thank you very much Jan Frydendal and sptrakesh, I didn't know the technique.
By including Default.png, the impression of the start up time was quite improved.
And I would like to know the details about "loading view in chunks".
My app creates subviews in viewDidLoad method now, but is there better way?
Also I would like to know how to load data lazily.
I am afraid the start up time will be slower if the size of the app data increases.

  • Updating Stalled Process Post ES2 Upgrade

I just upgraded our server from 8.2 to ES2 SP2.  I had several active process instances before the upgrade that I'm testing post upgrade.
The process I'm testing uses a Query Single Row Operation which is stalling.  It's stalling because I don't have a required parameter(Data Mapping) defined.  This parameter was not required in 8.2 so it worked fine.
So I fixed that issue with the process(after creating an application and importing the process), and attempted a retry on the process, but that is not working.  Livecycle continues to use the invalid version of the process that does not specify the required parameter when I attempt a retry.
So, my question is how can I update the "active" version of the upgraded process and retry the stalled process instances?

The "deploy" option in the application version menu is apparently what I was looking for.

    Hello Abe,
If it's a Digital Audio or earlier, you need to install a Firmware update first...
As explained in "Mac OS X 10.2 Welcome and Install Manuals" and "Mac OS X Welcome and Install Manuals", you may need to update the firmware on your Macintosh computer prior to installing Mac OS X 10.2 or later. The following table lists the firmware updates that are available for Apple products that can update to Mac OS X 10.2 or later.

  • Computer stalled while upgrading to iTunes 10

My computer stalled while trying to upgrade. I left it alone for a couple of hours then had to reboot. Now it says that iTunes was not installed correctly and asked me to reinstall. After trying twice now, it just keeps saying that the install was interrupted and to try again later.
    Any suggestions are truly appreciated!
    Thanks

Just restore your backup copy of the library file... Ah OK, guess it's not that simple.
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library as iTunes Library (Corrupt) and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See MusicFolder Files Not Added and Super Remove Dead Tracks for tools to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
