I think I'm in shock - Amex Everyday Approval!

So - I just had to spend a darn decent amount on repairing my car (just shy of 2k )  It went on a card with enough room, and quite a bit was coming out of the savings account, and another bit onto a 0% card that still has 10 months remaining, but I was looking at paying interest for 10 months at 24.9%, which I hated the idea of, but I didn't have an extra grand laying around.   Got to looking around, didn't have a preapproval, but started thinking about applying for the Amex Everyday (with the 0% for 15 months on balance transfers and APR).  I figured a denial really couldn't hurt more than that 24.9% interest rate, so I bit the bullet and cold apped.  I think I almost passed out when it said I was approved.  After I got logged in I saw that they had approved me for $2000!  Holy crap.  I'm incredibly happy and still slightly in shock!  Now - to figure out how to request a balance transfer.  Thank you to everyone here on myFico.  Seriously - could not have done it without you.

Is there still time for OP to apply for a charge card and not get a 2nd HP? You should totally go apply for the PRG, go from an incognito browser window and when it shows 50k MR points after 1k spend in 3mos, click apply. If you get denied, its only a soft pull anyway! (i know it may not be easy with these expenses you werent expecting to have) And whatever the case, CONGRATS on the approval! The ED card kinda bugged me at first. I didn't think it was all that great compared to the others. That was until I found out the value of MR points! Easy to earn 1.2 and 2.4 which can really be worth even more if done right! Plus no annual fee.   What will you plan on doing with your 10k points? If you get amex gift cards, its only 50 bucks. If you get restaurant ones, its $100. But if you redeemed for travel it could be worth a lot more! Pair that with the 50k from the PRG and you are golden! While an awesome idea - there's no way for me to meet 2 bonus spends.  Largest expense is rent, and there's no way for it to be paid by anyway but check.  Groceries over the next few months will take care of the 1k on the ED card.  I'm not sure that I'd make good use of the charge card.  Thanks for the info on the MR Points, its gonna take some time to fingure out what I want to do with them.  And thanks for the congrats!

  • AMEX Everyday Preferred Pending App - CSR responses have varied.

Last week I was feeling it with my 650 FICO scores across the board and decided to apply for an AMEX revolver. I have two business cards from them, the American Express Gold Rewards card and the True Earnings Costco card (with the latter soon to become useless since Costco dropped AMEX). i recieved mix responses from 3 different CSR and I was wondering if anyone experienced this before. I didn't get an approval or a denial, simply a message that said my application is under review. Right now on the application status page it shows : We will notify you once your application has been processed, or if we need additional information. If you wish to view an electronic communication of your decision details once we have made a decision, click here.
I also got an email that contained this message: So I called them up 3 times today: 1st call was a female CSR. She told me my application is under review and I needed to wait 4-5 business days. I asked her what could be the possible reasons for such a long hold up and she told me it's because initially I probably didn't qualify but because of some certain factors or that I might have a history with American Express they are manually reviewing the application. Here is where it gets weird 2nd call was a male CSR and he told me because I already applied for the AMEX BCE and was denied (WHICH I DID NOT APPLY FOR),  my application for the AMEX Everyday Preferred card was also declined and to wait for the letter in the mail. I told him I did not apply for the BCE and he told me to hold on. He then apologized, took my SSN once again and told me that I was right and I did not apply for the BCE but the application was denied and to wait for the letter in the mail. My application status is still at "In Progress" so I decided to call one more time. 3rd call was a female CSR and she told me that another represenative has already took a look at my account. I told her I called back because a male CSR told me my application was denied and I wanted to know if that was the cause. She said it's still pending, under review and has not been denied. She told me to call back within 2-3 business days. Thoughts?

  • AMEX Everyday Card VS Charge Card, Green?

Hi All, I applied for the AMEX Everyday Card last thursday and got denied.  I called the recon line and my app was sent again hoping it gets approved this time.  Most likely i will not be getting the card.  My questions are: 1. How likely am I to get a charge card (i heard is easier). I pay in full every month2. If i decide to go for it, how long should i wait? • Successful PC to AmEx Everyday rewards!

I made the silly mistake of applying for Blue from American Express, thinking choosing a lesser card I'd have a better chance, and I was approved. Only to find out that I would have had an equal chance at an Everyday or BCE/BCP. The card is inteneded to be my daily driver, for all of my small purchases from month to month, so I figured with the 20% bonus MR points for 20 or more purchases, and 2x at supermarkets, it'd be worth doing the PC I was offered. Very excited to have a more useful card . Side note: The agent I was on the phone with said they no longer offer a Green Card? It seems to still be on the website, but has anybody else caught wind of AmEx dropping the Green Card?

    Congrats

  • Amex Everyday easier to get than Blue Cash?

My last three baddies wil fall off my Experian in October and I wanted to get an Amex Blue Cash Everyday to basically buy all my food and fuel and stuff with to earn cash back, but from what I've read, the regualar Everyday card (the grey/silver one) might be easier to obtain.   Once those negatives fall off I should be looking at a mid 600's score with 9 inquiries and very small balances on my few other cards that I keep that way on purpose. (My TU is the best right now with no negatives, but trying to get Amex to pull TU is not an easy task, from what I've read here and there.)

I highly doubt that there's a difference in underwriting for these two cards. I've had many AmEx revolvers over the years, and the only one I noticed that had easier underwriting criteria is the cobranded Gold Delta Skymiles card. +1 For what it's worth, I got a BCP (and a Green card) with two 6-year old COs, and I also had a BK7 in 2000 in which an Amex account was included.  My EX at time of approval in April was 695.Whaaaat? Wow lucky! Also, there is quite a difference for someone with a 695 Fico score and someone in the mid-600s when it comes to approvals by Amex. I still believe the BCP has tougher UW requirements than the ED... but I was too chicken to test this theory out so I only tried for the ED card I agree with you as well.  And you're right, I was very lucky to be able to get 'back in' with Amex.    Actually, I applied for the Green card expecting to get declined, just to get a 'free' copy of my Experian FICO.  Well, surprise, surprise, it was approved!  The only 'problem', though, is I honestly didn't (and still don't) have much use for a charge card.  So I had read about the '2-for-1' HPs with Amex, and I decided to go for the BCP,  which is what I really would have wanted to begin with... and it was approved as well.  Granted, I only got a $1K SL and after the promo the APR is 21.9%, but that's OK.  I just use it at Kroger and Publix, and I PIF each month, collecting 6% back for groceries.  Rinse, and repeat...  In case you're wondering, yes, Amex does 'remember' what happened 15 years ago.  About two weeks after my approval, when I logged in online, instead of saying "Member since 2015" it started saying "Member since 1995".  Also, I was denied a CLI, and the letter said it was due to "...previous account experience with American Express", or something like that.  So it will likely be a long time before I get a CLI, if ever, but for my purposes I have what I need. They remember what happened 35 years ago. A day after I got my ED in January, the MSD changed to 1980.

  • Got approved for AMEX everyday and Premier gold in same month w/640

Hey guys, I applied for and got an everyday card with a 500 limit (a start I guess) on 6/29, and I applied for the gold premiere charge card on Tuesday, and got approved for it. What is a good way to guage spendability on the gold?  My plan is to just put all of my normal monthly expenses on the gold and pay it...  I guess if I hit a wall, I hit a wall.  I was very surprised I got approved for either, as I've tried to get amex charge for years without any avail.  I currently have a 640/617 on creditkarma.. I joked with my wife that my BMW financial loan with 3% interest must have facilitated the approval.

  • Barclaycard Approval...No on Amex everyday

Hey, So I read the forums and I was going back and forth about my next card choice. I used to work for AMEX and really wanted to transition to an AMEX card but after a pending decision, it came back denied. I recently purchased my first home ($128k mortagage), the mortgage has not hit yet my profile yet, but I have the following cards: CreditOne- $500Barclaycard- $1300 *** just approved todayHome Depot- $1500Plat. Capital One- $3300 My scores are: TransUnion: 680 Equifax: 660 Experian: 650 I know AMEX only uses Experian. I haven't had any late payments in over a year if not more, and I make over $60k a year. How long should I wait until I apply for another AMEX. I do not know the reason they declined it, I will ofcourse get that info in the mail soon.

CONGRATS on your new home & your new approvals! I agree that you should nix that Credit One card ASAP (you won't regret it). Once your Cap1 card is 6 months old, request a PC to a QuickSilver to take advantage of the 1.5% cashback on everything.

  • First time AMEX application - Approved for 2 cards!!

Business credit. Also, I'm looking into buying a slightly used car and my debt to credit ratio would be under 30% by next August in addition to the next credit cards I intend to get and raise CLs on in the meantime. this may be outside the scope of this thread, but I intend on purchasing its small property and fixing it up then getting it reappraised for at least $10,000 for a next investment.

Some background info: I started out with Equifiax score of 423 in 2011 when I signed up for credit monitoring and have hammered away at all debts since then. $900 left in student loans total to this today. This morning my Experian Fico score updated to 657 with a credit ulitization of 31% after I paid down my balances.  Equifax was 578 and TransUnion was 684, although AMEX doesn't pull from these.   I paid off all collections with pay for delete except with AFNI which I'm currently disputing.  Also, there is a judgement with Capital One also setlled.  Both negative accounts are over three years old.  I started with a bank credit card $500 CL, bank $1000 installment loan and 2 secured cards in June 2014, both $500CL.  I closed the secured cards and upgrageded to 2 CapOne cards (Journey and Quicksilver One) later that December. I've made steady on time payments on all accounts since the secured cards.  Two months ago, my CL doubled to $1000 on both CapOne cards automatically. Today: I applied online for the Amex Blue Cash (not preferred. I wanted free anuual cards) and was instantly approved.  I created an account online and noticed there was only a $1000 credit limit.   I decided to apply for a 2nd since it couldn't hurt much.  I decided on the EveryDay card.  I was prompted to call Customer service.   Phone conversationRep "I see there was a duplicate application"Me   "I applied for a second card.  I usually apply for two cards at a time.  However, I pay all my credit cards on time. I've done it for the past three years and don't intend to ever stop.  Check my credit report."Rep "We usually put a hold on second applications for 5 days"Me   -silent-Rep "Tell you what, I will make an exception for you.  As a matter of fact I will make two.  First, I just approved your second card.  Second exception I will make is that I will have your cards shipped with expidited shipping.  You will receive both in 2-3 days."Me   "Thank you.  I have heard how great AMEX was and its a breath of fresh air to have a such a great company to work with."
Rep "Thank you sir, I wish you a great day"Me   "Thanks brother, you too" I told the rep I apply for 2 cards at once because I do.  Two secured cards at the same time in June 2014, two CapOne cards in December 2014, and now two AMEX in July 2015.  My experian report does show "No payments missed in 3 years".  Speaking honestly about the diligence you put into your finances will pay off.   I went into detail here to help out anyone who wanted to know the process of one way to get two amex cards within 5 minutes of each other. Cheers!

  • Delta Skymiles AMEX Gold Approved with Bankruptcy!!

Just got an instant approval online!!  Credit line is $2,000.  I have applied about 4 times for this card over the past few years, declined each time.  They checked Experian my Fico score is 664 and I have 30+ inquires (i'm a credit junkie too...I have no comprehension of "gardening" LOL) mostly on TU, not sure exactly how many I have with Experian. At any rate my bankruptcy is still on my credit reports until November 2015 so there was definitely some divine intervention at work.    On a side note, I got declined last week for the State Farm Visa and the Alaska Airlines Visa.  Applied for the new Orbitz Visa right before I applied for this one and got the 7-10 day message.  Really wanted another travel card (had the American Airlines credit card a few years ago but got behind on the payments so ended up closing and settling the account for less than what was owed on it) so I'm good now.

  • 2 AMEX, BOA CLI & Discover-It Denials - Recon?

    Hey everyone!
I had been riding a hot streak the past few days getting Cap One Quicksilver and Venture, Chase Freedom & Citi Double Cash. I was brought back to earth with a thud by the AMEX Everyday denial, and taking some advice I found in one of the threads, applied for the Delta card so they'd use the same HP. Also a no-go, but it was because I was already rejected for the first card. Discover also told me take a hike.
Should I recon all in 30 days? I'm thinking my newer balances haven't posted and the HPs showed high util on 2 cards and maybe HPs for the new cards. Worth a shot via backdoor or lick my wounds in the garden for awhile?

You can try to recon within but the denial may hold.  What was the reason given to you for the denials?  That often holds the clue.

Hello all, I recently got my second letter from Amex about to the BCEonly thing is only a couple week ago I was denied due to insufficient credit historyI was however approved for the freedom and venture the same day. What can this be? I was planning on keeping my 3 cards and letting them grow for a whileBut I really want this card. What do you guys think I should do ?wait it out or risk another inquiry and apply for BCE again. Would it be convenient for me to get it now or still wait?

  • Credit Dropped 100 points?

Hello , Recenlty I changed american express cards , meaning I closed my AMEX gold charge card to open an AMEX everyday I was approved and given a 10k limit. However after I closed my gold card I didn't see one left over charge of $60. Months went by without my knowlege of my outstanding payment , in the end AMEX closed all my accounts for failing to pay the $60 charge. I have called them and they said I would have to apply again , so I did however I was declined. Now my credit has fallen to 640 from 750 just from closing one of my credit card accounts , plus the late payments. Those are the only marks on my credit other than those I have made all payments on time and re-payed all loans given to me. Now I am trying to raise my credit score but it seems I am getting denied for all credit cards. I still have one credit card with a $600 limit on it ( my very first) , should I just start making purchases with this card and make my payments on-time ? Do you think this will restore my credit ? I was thinking about taking one of prosper loans out and just paying it back month by month to help my credit. I have a decent job , 0 debt , and my housing is provided by my employer. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Sorry this happened to you. First off, did you square the debt on the gold card with Amex?  That is a top priority.  They have a concrete memory. Didnt they try to contact you to get payment while it was 30 or 60 or 90 days late?  My problems came in 2008 and 09 and I was getting lots of calls from every creditor until the COs occured.  Then a short lull, and the CAs started circling overhead. Second, try getting secured cards, hopefully ones that will graduate to unsecured with good history.  There are threads with lists of secured cards on the forums. If you have one card now, take care of it.  You need to try for at least three, even if small, even if secured. The baddies will have less impact in time, with 24 months as a milestone. Rinse out that one card you have with purchases and payments, and pay before due dates.  When you get more cards, rinse those out too. hth

  • Helping an older parent develop credit

Hey folks,  I'm looking for some advice on how to help my mother develop credit. She is older and doesn't necessarily need it as she works and gets some Social Security, but we both agreed that having her own line of credit (or two) wouldn't be a bad thing -especially in an financial emergency.  I pulled up her credit about 8 months ago and literally nothing was there. She is a ghost. Apparently, back in the day she had some credit issues but that must have been like 15-20 years ago and since then she's just "opted out" of credit entirely. Her buearu's show nothing. It's almost frightening. I'm guessing any charge-offs she had disappeared a long time ago.  Last July I made her an AU on a few of my accounts and she basically runs all her bills/groceries/gas through the Amex EveryDay card. Additionally, she has used a couple other cards I made her an AU on a few times as well, always paying everything off. She's held no balance or increased my debt at all.  My idea was to maybe use Credit Karma (which I've never used before) to get her FAKO scores and see if after 8 months of use as an AU on some of my accounts if she finally has a score to speak of. The goal is to get her approved for an entry-level card, maybe even getting her a card through her bank (Wells Fargo).  Anyway, I just want know if I am going about this the right way, or if there's something else I can be doing. I'm not sure what else we can do to get her credit up and running when she has been out of the game for so long. Her income is around 25k, most of that coming from her job + the Social Security she gets.  Any wisdom, observations, or advice would be helpful. Thanks everyone!

I hadn't really thought about that before. I'm not sure how much she could put up for one though, she's on limited income and I'm not sure she would want to do that. Here's an example: -Mom takes out $500 credit builder loan (and holds on to the money, do not spend it)-Payments are $45/mo for 12 months-At the end of the 12 months, Mom has paid the original $500 back plus $40 of interestMost credit builder loans don't quite work like that. The "credit builder" marketed loan I have seen from DCU and others is they stuff $X into an account you can't touch and you make payments based on that.  I think this is what you're referring to? The more common one is you deposit whatever their minimum amount is in a savings account generally with a CU, and then take out a 100% LTV loan against that labelled a share secured loan.  Generally this one has longer terms, low APR, and therefore lower payments plus the FICO goodies you get from it. In either event someone giving a consumer cash is an unsecured loan and a no-file wouldn't qualify for that; a no-file + AU accounts might. Anyway @OP when the accounts are reporting as verified by CK or other sources, go ahead and have her apply for a starter card and might even be able to do better than that by checking pre-qual sites.   The Amex will only be from the date you added her on; however, every other AU you established if they report should inherit your entire positive history on the line.Hey Rev, That's interesting. Maybe my CU does it differently. I helped my younger brother (zero credit history) open a CU savings account a couple months back and they offered him an unsecured credit builder loan right off the bat. Always good to get different perspectives.Wow, what CU was that may I ask and what was the APR?  That's pretty much too good to be true with how the financial marketplace views unsecured personal loans.Travis Credit Union. • Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards-APPROVED

I found these boards so helpful in deciding whether or not I should apply, so I thought I'd share my experience for any others who may be interested in this card.  All 3 of my scores are right around 650.  I have a 4 year old car repo, and a few 6 year old medical collections, other than that, everything recently is doing great.  I was approved last month for a $1000 CL on an Amex Everyday, which I was thrilled about, it's been my largest limit so far.  Have 4 other smaller cards.  I really want the points for SW and finally decided to just give it a try.  To my surprise, not only was I approved, I was approved with a $16,000 CL!!!  Never in a million years, especially after rebuilding after a tough couple of years, did I think I'd get approved, much less a limit that high.  Hope someone else finds this useful.
