I've overclocked my Ultra 2 to 448Mhz... someone have more details?

I've recently been dusting off my U5 and U10 machines and found out that you can overclock them. So, I thought I'd try to do the same with my U2 that has 2x UltraSPARC-II 400Mhz CPUs. I was able to get them to run at 448Mhz (= 4x 112Mhz UPA). In my trial and error, I noticed that I can increment the UPA bus in increments of 4Mhz each... 100Mhz, 104Mhz, 108Mhz, 112Mhz,.. but it froze up beyond 112Mhz.
My question is, why the 4Mhz increment? On the Ultra 10 platform, the increment was different and I could go up to 120Mhz UPA bus speed.
just wondering if anyone has more details about this stuff? pointers please???
btw, running at 448Mhz was pretty stable... I was afraid after letting it run for a while, it would lock up, but running a load on it for 24+ hours straight and it never hiccup once. I have considered possibly looking for a replacement fan that blows more CFM... but may not be necessary...

  • Overclocking KT4-Ultra & BIOS 1.4

Hy. I've overclocked my 2400+ to 2300Mhz(170FSB). I had also to upper the core voltage to 1.75v (1.74real) so because of this I get higher temps. The thing is that I use a RaptorCool silent cooler and a 12cm fan blowing cold air into the case. This is obvious not enought but is silent. And I use the PC mostly for "domestic" things like watching movies and listening music and just ocasionally for games. Now I would really need the CPU Halt Command enabled in bios to lower my temperatures, but this is available only in v1.4. And if I flash to 1.4 I loose my preseted 13.5 multiplyer (wire trick) that is changing into 11 there goes my overclock.  The WPCREDIT method does not apply as I want to switch easy from Enabled/Disabled by just selecting in bios.
How could this be even possible? If this can happen (multiplyer from 13.5 to 11) why not also a bios to unlock the CPU?

The issue here is not why I want to overclock (doh) and also not the HDD performance. And I am among the users that flashed a lot the mobo and  that reported the v1.4 temps issue wich is not solved and I think it will never be as the support stopped. I needed the CPU Halt because was a simple ON/OFF thing. Now I find it was   because I would still need to enter the bios. So why not just lower the voltage?    But yet is this strange thing - how can the multiplyer change from 13.5 to 11?  This v1.4 bios is full of (unpleasent) surprises.
Anyone played the flash game Bubble Trouble? Well, that's a game that requires a lot of CPU. Even with Radeon9800 you will be in "trouble" if you don't have enought CPU )) And this is the main reason why I overclocked ) to play it while I run a movie on TV-out and listen to music on my usb earphones.

  • 1800 overclock KT4A Ultra

My mobo shows the option for 11.5x is the multiplier default for my xp1800 and others like 12.5/13 (it goes like a xp2000), 14x(goes something like 667Mhz???) and 15x(767mhz???), my vcore is 1.5v. how can i use 14x/15x as 14x/15x?  ;(  :D  8o

  • My Ultra 64gb card seems to have died.

I have a Gopro Hero3 black with a micro SDHC 64Gb class 10 card which was working without fault until today. After I removed the card to remove the files I'd made but my PC will not "see it" and when I returned the card to my gopro it says SD error. Any ideas welcome.

I am also experiencing various problems with my 64GB micro SD. I purchased one back in December and immediately encountered read and write problems. During my first attempt to use card I tried to transfer a bunch of files onto the card using a card reader but within the first few seconds the transfer was interrupted as the card disconnected itself from the computer. When i tried to connectthe card it found errors and asked me to do a disk check.  I then reallized I could only transfer one single file at at a time but even then the card was unstable and randomly disconnects. When i tried to remove the files that were corrupted due to the interruption i found that the delete option was no longer avaliable in the right click menu. So I took the card back to the store and sent it for replacement and a month later when i received the replacement ard I put that in to the card reader and.....yes folks that too was also defective. When i contacted customer support AGAIN, they assured me that the millions have been sold world wide and there has not been many issue with it. I guess I must just be unlucky. I'm still in the process of trying to resolve the return issues and recover additional costs of dealing with this defective cards.

i push the reset button then this time my screen doesn't turn on and my computer do un double bip then access to the floppy disk, double bip, access floppy alternatively witout stopping !!!
i try to stop it completely and reboot but it do the same thing.
i looked for the bracket it stay on the number 2 led green (test Ram)
i replace my ram but that change nothing

  • Ultra Search/ Oracle Text capabilities

Our decision to go forward with Oracle9i is contingent upon the extensible use of Ultra Search and Oracle Text in our planned endeavors.
Basically we are to build a system to do the following:
    1) download information (html files, links, documents) from web sites and accessible disk archives. The url sites are particular to a domain.
    2) place the downloaded file information into our Oracle database or download to local system with appropriate links in database.
    3) perform queries on the downloaded information through the database to isolate files for analysis.
    4) analyze and perform extraction on the information. For example, query based on a defined hierarchy of vulnerability terms.
I've demoed Ultra Search and Oracle Text. I believe that Ultra Search can handle step 1, and possibly step 2 and that Oracle Text can help in step 4. Step 3 is satisfied by the Oracle database.
I need to know details concerning Ultra Search and Oracle Text before committing:
o when Ultra Search performs its crawling, how is found information represented in the database. Is a whole html file or document downloaded or are references to these documents stored in the database? If references are stored does Ultra Search embed the capability to download these files to be analyzed?
o is Oracle Text the right tool to provide the capability for robust analysis of downloaded documents.
o I have used the sample JSP that came with Ultra Search. Are there any more detailed examples which my above steps. In particular, performing robust analysis on downloaded documents from step 1.
We have and are still exploring other COTS products to find a solution. Are main goal is to have the retrieved documents and analysis information resident in the database in this phase of our project. We find other COTS can perform the web crawling, but lack analysis, or vice versa and that their solutions are so vendor specific that in many times their services would be required to build a suitable solution that is not very extensible.
    Thanks for any feedback.

Ultra Search does not keep documents in the database permanently. We bring them in for indexing purposes, but remove them after
the indexing is completed. However, we keep the URLs of each unique document that was found during the crawling. You would
have to do the downloading yourself. However, we are thinking about providing a mechanism, maybe in the form of an API, that
would allow customers to retrieve documents. Please contact me on this issue if you are interested to discuss this: (650)-506-8173.
Generally speaking you will find that Oracle Text is a very powerful tool for analysis of textual documents, especially since it is
driven through the SQL language, has extensive functionality (themes, user-defined knowledge base, thesaurus, and many useful linguistic
functions like segmentation, stemming, and globalisation support).
The philosophy of Ultra Search is to provide you with an out-of-the-box solution for crawling and searching your data without the
need for programming. Ultra Search is built on top of Text, so I would advise you to use Text to do the further analysis of your
documents after they have been located by the crawler.

  • Black magic ultra studio 4K

    Friends,
Can anyone tell me the real advantages of using an external video card like blackmagic ultra studio 4K?
I'm using FInal Cut Pro X in my 27" 3.2 Ghz iMac witha 32GB of memory.
    Normally I work with 4K / 5K RED footages.
Do you think it speeds up the video processing if we use an ultra studio 4K?
My doubt is other than the multiple output options, will it do an extra processing for an application like Final Cut Pro X?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Sreekumar

    let me clarify this.
since I'm working with 4K or 5K images and my projector is a 1920*1080, if I use an ultra studio 4K, the images appearing will have more detail than connecting through my display port? is the how pixel-by-pixel works?
the monitor I;m using is a 2560*1440 resolution. which is better? connecting though the display port or through the ultra studio 4K?
Whats the real advantage of using this card when I use Final Cut Pro X for colour grading.
Will this card acts like an internal card we used earlier?

  • Easy capture sharpening in ACR 6

After reading most of the books available on ACR and sharpening, including Jeff's latest, and after having dinked with this stuff for many years, I've come to a startling conclusion, at least to me.  Setting Amount = 150, Radius=1. Detail = 0, and Masking = 0 seems to work well for CAPTURE sharpening on all of my images.  And I'm including low and high iso, "high frequency" and portrait, etc.
I capitalized capture because to me these settings work well on the initial image prep, narrowing the light/dark transitions without adding any discernable halo.  Doing as is generally recommended, bringing up Detail to add a slight halo visible at 400% but not at 100%, with corresponding Amount and Radius adjustments, can certainly produce a slightly sharper appearing image on the monitor, but IMO one has now at least partially crossed over into output sharpening for the monitor.
Another advantage of the 150-1-0-0 approach is the lack of any artifacts as one continues to process the image, particularly upsampling for printing.  For noisy images I do end up adjusting Masking as I interatively apply NR, but again in general the settings work well.  And of course setting them up as ACR defaults simplifies processing.  I'm curious as to whether others have arrived at a similar conclusion, or not.  I haven't been doing this as a default very long, and wonder if I'll come across pitfalls later.
    Richard Southworth

OK, well I just tried this on a landscape image that is basically almost all high/mid frequency:
    Amount 150
    Radius 0.5
    Detail 0
Masking 0 (although I would mask appropriately with any image)
    and then compared it to
    Amount 35
    Radius 0.5
    Detail 100
    Masking 0
Critical viewing was at 100, 200, 300 and 400% in ACR.
I am really surprised at this!  Although the sharpening is extremely close to the same amount in appearance (at 100%) the first settings with detail at 0, to my eye has a lot cleaner edges (less halowing) and definitely less artifacting in smoother areas (even w no masking).  Basically at the edges of the image there seems to be less feathering of pixels transitioning them (may interpolate up better this way?).
I will do some more testing, to see how the file then handles Sharpening for Output (with the new datail at 0 settings).  I am thinking at this point that your detail at 0 idea might be sound. Less artifacting and cleaner edges seems to mean that the file will take more aggressive sharpening after up sizing it, and then the grain simulation I use to disguise the artifacting may be able to be a little less aggressive.
Question, do you still approach the masking (ACR) the same way?
Lastly, I tried using the first settings of sharpening on an image interpolated to max size in ACR (about 20MP) and then tried the same capture sharpening settings on an image at native size (about 12MP) then interpolated up to 20MP using PS Smoother (remembering that ACR applies the sharpening after the uprez). I have found the ACR uprez to have more detail at ultra zoom levels.  But if ACR applies the capture sharpening after the ACR uprez (if my reading is right, Jeff S said that) and the other is capture sharpened at native pixel size and then uprezzed with Bicubic Smoother, aren't I just comparing apples with oranges?  Also, when taking a image from 12.9 to 19.5MP is the ACR interpolating using its algorithm that is like Smoother?

  • Sony A300 ACR Defaults noisy and over exposed

I have a A300, ACR 5.1 and Elements 6.0 I have recently compared three raw plugins, Adobe ACR, Sony's image convertor and Silkypix free. With the Sony s/w I turned off all automatic processing. The results are a surprise.
The same raw file has much more noise when being opened in ACR and requires a great deal of exposure reduction to reduce highlights and get the highlight warning to disappear from within the plugin.
When saved as jpegs from the various covertors the ACR is noiser and all settings seem too strong. On very noisey photos (or at least photo that look noisey from within ACR) it some times isn't possible to clean up the noise. It just doesn't seem ACR is doing a propper job of opening the Sony raw files.
I do like the ACR plugin and it is much quicker than the Sony but at the moment there does a ppear to be a quality loss using it.

OK, well I just tried this on a landscape image that is basically almost all high/mid frequency:

  • Need Help Please: Audigy2 Value conflict with onboard sound

<SPAN class=postbody>System info: Windows XP Home Edition, 2.4 GHz IntelPent4, 52MB of RAM; DDR 200(33MHz), MSI MS-6547 (645 Ultra) motherboard. I need help! Sigh...well I am trying to put in a Soundblaster Audigy2 into my computer. I am under the impression that I have to disable and remove all onboard sound b/c it conflicts with the new sound card, ?. I currently have onboard sound ( AC97 Audio Controller ). I went to add/remove programs and removed the AC97 from there. I also went to MyComputer/Properties/Hardware/DeviceManager/Sound,Video,andGameControllers/AC97AudioContoller and deleted it. st Question: Under DeviceManager/Sound,Video,GameControllers...Do I need to remove the Legacy Audio Drivers? I know that I have to delete the rest of the drivers for AC97 and out of chance would Legacy be those drivers? I am guessing no...Also, is there anything else that I have to delete for the on board sound program to be gone? 2nd Question: I went to BIOS, and since I have windows XP home edition I think that configuration is a little different from what I read(I wont bore you with that). So, where do I go to "disable" the onboard sound in BIOS for Windows XP HomeEdition? Also, I read something about making sure the "Chip" was disabled but I could be paranoid. Do I need to worry about that? If you made it through all that text I thank you dearly. I hope that I can get some help from someone b/c I know nothing. I am afraid of making the wrong choice on BIOS and messing everything up. Thank You so Much! Ross Message Edited by RossRude3 on 04-06-2005 0:48 AM

    Ross,
To fully disable teh onboard audio you would need to go into the BIOS to disable the Onboard Audio chip there. The manual with your motherboard or PC should have more detail on where exactly to find this setting, as it will differ per BIOS type. Generally it should be under a heading like Integrated Peripherals, and should be marked as the Onboard Audio chip, or AC97 Audio.

  • K8T NEO-FIS2R RTL!!! My Initial impressions

K got my Msi and athlon64 3200 in yesterday swapped it into once of my spare cases and fired her up.
K, First problem i encountered was it would not boot off my 2x512 corsair pc3700 twin X ram.
then it would not boot of my Geil pc4000 2x256 Low latency (2.5,7,3,3)
I would boot off Hynix cheapo ddr400 stick. i then tried to manually set timings incase spd did not detect properly to no avail no matter what combination i used my top ram would not work.
I then tried a set of 2x256 Hyperx pc4000 modules. The booted and tested out fine.y
MSI needs to fix this glaring problem if your board doesnt work with Corsair top of the line Ram your A$$ out!!!
K after the ram fiasco every single thing went smoothly windows install as well as installing the useful utilities off the cd like MSI Core to overclock in windows. Windows and all utilities and updates installed without a hitch.
my spare 9800 pro installed without a hitch.
i then set about doing some quick benches.
i was getting, at stock settings,
    3000 ish sandra memory bench
    6044 3dmark2k3
49 fps Halo -timedemo (1024x768x32 all high no aniso or AA)
then i bumped it up to 220 which puts me at 2200 mhz
    sandra went to 3350 ish
    6360 on 3dmark2k3
    58 fps same halo test.
    i clocked my 2.6c p4 to 3.2 at 246 fbs with the corsair pc3700 2x512 at 3,8,4,4 1:1
i get about 5700 sandra mem bench
    6038 3dmarks 2k3
    48 Halo bench
even at default the xp3200 without being fully tweaked overtakes my 3.2 p4 at 246 fbs with 1 gig tweaked ram. Then when i overclock the hammer to 2.2 its pulling away pretty healthily. i suspect a stock 3.2 at 200 fbs would get trounced.
my testing was done with 2 9800 pros both clocked at 400/350 ( my main card will do more but to keep testing even i used the top speed of the slower one) using omegas latest cat 3.8 leaked drivers and default settings.
The good: So far this board has been easy to work with and setup, exhibiting great stability and performance.
Cpu running great temps under load using the stock retail heatsink. 53c loaded with Prime95 for 3 hours. Overclocking potiential seems to be good with these chips and the feature set is great.
The Bad: Will not allow the use of todays most popular and best Ram vendors top of the line products. Msi has to fix the issues with Corsair ram and that of Geil as well this is not the cheapo Geil either.
overclocking hits a wall at 220fbs i changed nothing went straight to 220 with what through initial testing appears to be complete stability however at 221 and above displays complete random instability, this tells me MSI is going to have to include pci/agp locks for this board to stretch its legs. i believe my chip has much more to offer.
Core windows tweaking and overclocking utility does some crazy stuff i cant move my vcore past default with it.
This is real preliminary i will see if i have to turn down from 220 to run my raptor raid 0 array of the SATA controller i should have more detailed information this weekend.
Does anyone know any other good places to share/compare MSI products at? also things like beta bios's or MSI sponsered forums ect?

  • K8NGM2-FID CPU core voltage Fluctuations and instabilities-- Bad caps!!?

I Have K8NGM2-FID bought 6 months ago and started having stability issues since last month.
    Here is my configuration
K8NGM2-FID ver 2.0 Bios 3.73 now, used to be 3.5, experimented both, but did not help
    Onboard video, Onboard Lan, firewire
    Memory : 512 x 2 Corsair DDR400 in dual channel mode at 2.65v 64MB to Video
    CPU: AMD64 X2 3800+
    HDD WD 160GB SATA150
    Winfast TV2000 Expert Tv Tuner
Drivers, tried many version ( currently using latest Nvidia Video, MB drivers)
Now, the description of the problem.
System suddenly hangs with or without load, intermittenly. Nothing to do what we are working on. Even when System is idle.
Hangs means, it could happend two ways,
    1. simply it would not respond, screen simply freezes,
    2. sometimes, you simply see horizantal lines on monitor( Typically happens when cpu core voltage drops below it can handle). I know this because
I am using RMClock on my Turion laptop, and when we try to find lowest stable voltage we see this behaviour.
Now, some other observation,  from the day one CPU core voltage has been fluctuating a lot. Used to fluctuate anywhere between 1.37v to 1.304v( at default 1.35v).  But still has been stable. Ran 24hour prime95, so no problems.
Recently I am seeing voltage fluctuations is more, as low as 1.28v to 1.39v at default 1.35v, so I tried RMCLock and raised the voltage to 1.4v, but it seems that did not help much.
Now, As per the MSI PCALert4  voltage is changing anywhere from 1.28v to 1.38v, but also I get core voltage field empty( that is right no CPU core voltage shown) and alarm sounds. It seems, CPU does not get voltage at all and gets very low voltage for a second or so.
Things I tried,  Changed the powersupply, changed the Memory, but no use. I am lucky enough to have exact same configuration I built for a friend. So, I checked voltages on his PC and I do not see this behaviour.
Now, I ran out of options.... any idea anyone had similar problem, and if they solved?
Now, here are PCAlert 4 images
    http://img171.imageshack.us/my.php?image=128vatdef135sp5.jpg
    http://img256.imageshack.us/my.php?image=novoltageif5.jpg
    http://img406.imageshack.us/my.php?image=132vredbi3.jpg
Also, another weird behaviour with Bios, even when I change setting in bios, they did not take effect, even loading default does not help, so I have to press CMOS reset button.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the quick reply.
First to clarify, these things has been developed a monrh ago only. It has been fine for more than 5 months.
1). Yes Memory is insalled in closest DIMM sockets to CPU,
2). I think you mean mem voltage. The memory I have is Corsair Value series and it even runs fine DDR400 at 2.55v, but I bumped it to 2.65v and also tried 2.75v ( 2.65v is typical I have been using with this MB).
3). Memory has been tested with Memtest for 24 hours and ran Dual Prime95 for 24 hours when system is assembled.
Also swapped from another PC I built for my friend with same components( same corsair value series memory) Also tested my memory on his PC, no probs. BTW I also tested my memory at 333, freezing even happens even at that speed.
4). PSU has nothing to do, because I have been monitoring all PSU rails with SPeedFan none of of the rail voltages moved at all. I even monitored with Digital Multimeter to ensure. Anyways I even tried 3 psus, one ANtec 350W smart power supply, ThemalTake 420W, Ultra 400 Watts. All have more than enough juice to power this setup. (onboard Graphics card).
5). Yes, freezing happens in simply desktop too. Nothing to do with CPU load or graphics load. It could happen even when just idling.
6). I use stock CPU cooler in Antec 1650B case with 120MM Fan running in the back( approx 50cfm) and CPU temp never exceeded 47c and MB temp typically around 28c and NB temp around 50-60c using a digital probe and 55-70c using Nvidia Monitor based on load vs no load.
7). As per Dual core patches, I applied AMD Dual Core  optimizer quite a while ago. As per the MS Patch, No I have not applied( But I doubt it helps because it has been stable without that for all these months). I may try that.
Now, what I am trying, I  disabled CNQ, and logging Core voltage fluctuation with speedfan( no monitoring).
as of yesterday night the core voltage was varying from 1.28v to 1.39v( I think that is insane 110mv fluctuation in CPU core voltage!!?) at default CPU voltage of 1.35v. BTW it has nothing to with CPU load, all these logs generated when it was idle. I remember fluctuation even when MB was new, but lowest I observed was 1.304v.
SOmehow, I suspect VRM is pretty bad on this MB.
Anyways, see the response and let me know if you think I am missing somethings. Appreciate your help.

  • K9N4 Ultra-F any overclocking ?

    Hi.
Has anyone tried any overclocking with the K9N4 Ultra-F motherboard?
    Personally, I didn't tried yet.
    Problems found:
-Could not find the LDT multiplier in BIOS.
-Seems that there is no PCI lock (as if I try to increment the cpu clock using ClockGen, the PCI clock will also increment  )
    I'm trying to oc an x2 3600+.
    Thanks in advance.

I Have this mother too, K9N4 Ultra-F bios 1.5 and AMD ATHLON 64 X2 3600+ OPN AD03600IAA4CU CPU, I can´t overclock the cpu, only increase 100mhz 210x10, more increase and the system turn unstable, the overclock in K9N4 Ultra-F ¡¡ suck¡¡ other motherboards have good overclocking over ATHLON 64 X2 3600+, example BIOSTAR AM2 TFORCE 550 better overclocking and same price.
I pray MSI launch bios update to improve the overclocking, more options, example more cpu volt in K9N4 Ultra-F.
    better overclocking please¡¡

  • Overclocking the MSI KT3 Ultra ARU

    Hey,
I read some reviews with the kt3 Ultra ARU and i have read that people have been getting the FSB up to around 167? Yet, i fail to get it past 151?  Any suggestions?
    -Knowa-
    MSI KT3 Ultra ARU
    AMD xp 1800+
    768 mb pc2100
    TDK 40x12x48
    Lite ON DVD
    ATI Radeon 8500 (GIGABYTE)

you would have more chance of it booting at 166
than 151 as the divider kicks in at 152
at 166 fsb your video and pci slots are at the correct speed
it can be done if you have been lucky with the cpu you gotlink
