I want help to design my front end view

I have decided frontend view of my software..
1) first login form will appear. once it is authenticated i want to close that window and open the main frame.
2) that main frame contains menu bar and menu items.
3) below that menu bar i still have space which consider as another panel.
4) now when i click on menu item from respective menu, then the another frame should appear in that same panel. I dont want to open that in another frame..
Can i suggest me how can i achieve this...

Knock yourself out--pay particular attention to GUI development. I would also suggest hitting the local college/community college book store and investing in a Java Textbook.

BI 7.0: Report Designer / WAD Front-End Problems

Hi, We are on SAP Netweaver, BI 7.0 SP05, Stack01.
I have installed New SAP Front-End GUI Components,I dont have any problems executing queries in Web or BEx using Business Explorer 3.X.
I'm getting following errors when i try to execute with new version of Business Explorer.
1) Report Designer: Query XML is empty (BICS), please check query and portal setup.
this query works fine in BEx with New version as well.
2)Web Application Designer: "E002: Error while executing service RRXWS_WEBPUB_CALL_SERVICE:V for object 1()".
I couldnt execute simple web template in browser, when i click execute in browser, it open my local windows SAP directory.
Is there any setting or configuration files i should change?
i searched in OSS notes for these kind of errors, but i couldnt not find any
please let me know as its urgent.

Hi,
we're running NW2004s, BI 7.0 SP06.
I'm now testing the new Frontend-Tools and started with the Query Designer. Installed Patch 2, Revision 227. I created an new query and saved it. So far so good. After executing i get this error message:
iView not found: pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/platform_add_ons/com.sap.ip.bi/iViews/com.sap.ip.bi.bex.
Exception id: 11:02_16/02/06_0017_46228450
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
Do I need the integrate an platform_add_on? Does someone get the same errors?

Help needed in creating Front End GUI

Hello all,
Iam trying to develope a Front end Gui. Reading data from a spread sheet, which has the following data 6 cloumn's 1) Parameter 2) Group 3) Max value 4) Min value 5) Default value 6) Value. Group is pretty much again classified in to 4-types.
a) Temperature group --- Slide
b) Switch --- Push button
c) Sensor group (voltage or pressure) ---- Knobs
d) Digital Inputs --- Numeric Input
From the spread sheet,for each parameter based on what type of group I should to create either a slider, or a switch or a knob or a Digital Input. And Based on 3rd and 4th column information, scale should be adjusted. 5th column should be used to set a default value and 6th column to assign a value
to that parameter.
Some one pls give me any suggestion how to approach, begin with this process. Iam worried how to classify the parameters in to group's.

You could set up 15 to 20 controls of each type on your front panel. You will need to work with references to each control to get and set properties since there will be no way to wire them up to any specific functions on your block diagram since which controls mean what will vary during run time. So you would move the block diagram terminals for the 15-20 controls of each type off to the side of your diagram.
When you go through your setup spreadsheet, you can set the visibility and front panel coordinates of each control you want to use. For any you don't want to use, you will make them invisible. Use property nodes to set the properties of each control.
When you want to read from or write to a control, you will need use the reference of the particular control with a property node to get or set its value.
This is not an easy archtitecture. You will need to maintain arrays of references for each type of control. You will also need to maintain a cross reference array so that you if want to access Control C (for example), you know which reference to index out which might happen to be element 1 in the array of slide references. Perhaps control G would be element 4 of your array of knob references.
But with good organization of your control references and perhaps some good subVI's for setting and obtaining the references so you can index them out of the appropriate array, it can be done. I would recommend looking at Ben's Action Engine Nugget for ideas of how to store the references in a functional global variable.

Assumming you are not installing a third party application or just the runtime packages there should be a setup.exe in root folder of the DVD/CD.

i have a simple question .as all of us when make a small application that is accessible over the web has two parts(always).one is for all users of this site and other only for administators.
front end accessible over the web is jsp page(in my application).my question is ,is it more appropriate to design the front end for adminstrators using java components.like by using javax.swing package or it must be the jsp page in which beans are used or applet. i have a confusion in the usablity of these as i want to design interface for admin usind swing components.
which approach is better and why ?plz expalin ur answer also. waiting for reply inorder to design my application. thanX.

I would choose jsp/servlets with login protection for admins only. I would choose that, because I like to program, but like to do things fast. With applets or stand alone java applications, I would have to code the client server communication and still have to code some login protection. Also you are less likely to run into firewall problems when you just use port 80 and http like the users do.

2 edge servers and 2 front end servers?

Good morning/afternoon/evening Technet,
We're about to go to production with Lync 2013 standard with the following.
1. 2 front end servers w/ standard edition
2. 2 edge servers
We want to set it up so that 1 front end and 1 edge server will be at a location of ours a couple miles away. We want to setup the other front end and edge server at our main office. For disaster recovery purposes I know that I can keep the two front ends
pooled but as far as the Edge servers go, would it be best to have 1 active and the other edge turned passive? Is there a way that I can put the two edge servers in the same pool?

Hi,
Each Site can use a separate Edge Server to support external login process.
However, it is possible to use single Edge server for both pools. The user from the other site has to connect to the only edge and then route though the WAN link to go to its own pool. Access Edge is responsible for proxying SIP traffic for remote clients
to the next hop, which can be a Director or a Lync pool.

Thanks in advance.I am pretty sick of that word "technologies". It is really a generic catch all. Java is a "specific technology" so what is it you mean ? There isn't only one manner in which to create a front end. There are dozens if not hundreds of options, depending on how far you want to compartmentalize things. Deciding application or web application is already 2 options both using different things. Business layer can cover dozens of ideas.
Data access layer - is the data in a file in a database internal to the application itself ?
Are you talking about things like spring hibernate jdbc etc etc ?
(Basically there are a multitude of "technologies" that can be used for each of your questions. If you are looking for something to study that's one thing but if you are simply looking for a list look a jobs that list 30 requirements for a junior position, they tend to use the buzz word approach and many of those can be used in your questions.

Upgrading PCRs (Personnel Change Requests) front end technology

We are currently on Netweaver 7.0 & ECC 6.0 and ESS - MSS Business Package 50.4. We are using JSP Forms on portal front for Personnel Change Requests (PCR's ) where in all the scenarios in the backend are heavily customised. For certain scenarios, where in a huge amount of information is fetched from ECC 6.0 backend system, JSP are performing really bad and the total time taken to display the form is actaully causing a lot of irritation to the end user.
We are planning to propose an upgrade to SAP adobe interactive forms. The prerequisite is that the business wants to reuse all the customised scenarios without any changes and just want to move towards better front end forms.
My questions are:
1. Please list benefits of SAP Adobe interactive forms over JSP forms (performace wise)
2. Issues with SAP Adobe Interactive forms?
3. Any other options available for UI that can be suggested?
All suggestions are welcome. Quick response is appreciated.

Have you tried with WD ABAP. Since your application is dealing with data from backend, I think WD ABAP should suit your purpose. You will have much better handler over the data in this case.

When I go to through Some of the transaction in the SRM in one of the fields Storage location appears as pull down menu. The values appears in this order
TR01
SH10
SH09
SH01
Whereas most of the materials are maintained for SH01. User they don't see this field in urgency. They want this in ascending order rather in descending order.
Apart from this I need to know some Oss notes or else help files to support front end issues.

Https front end and http backend

Hi there....I am having a small issue....I have a web app that is https based....I have installed the cert on the CSS, and DNS for this app points to the VIP....the client is wanting to have an https front end, and then load balance in http to the backend servers....the issue I am running into is that this only works if I have an active port 80 rule on that same VIP....if I suspend the port 80 rule and only leave the port 443 rule active on that VIP, it doesn't work....please see appropriate config portions below....Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply....there is another port 80 rule setup for that vip....I was using that to test with the app until I got the front end https rules working....
my port 80 rules just says listen to 10.19.55.10 on port 80 and load balance btwn the webervers on port 8x in the back end...
I am trying to do https front end and http backend....
no where in my SSL config have I configured port 80....but when I suspend that rule it all fails....
I am wondering if the backend server sessions are happening properly?
I don't fully get what you mean by "You need to have the rule in port 443 to match traffic coming from the client and the clear text rule (port 81) to match traffic already decrypted coming from the SSL module"
Haven'tI done that?

Front End not reflecting previously deleted entry while entering into Staging table

Lets say I have table named 'Sales' as my Source. It contains columns Sal_ID and Sal_DESC
There is Front End Entity created as Master Sales in Model Project. According staging table in database is ' stg.Sales_Leaf '.
Now, I have entered data into stg.Sales_Leaf from Sales table for 'CODE' and 'NAME' value as Sal_ID and Sal_DESC, and my ImportType is '0'.
As Sales table contains 23 rows, these are imported to stg.Sales_Leaf with ImportType '0'.
I am able to see it in Front End also.
Problem starts now. I delete some rows from Front END directly which contains CODE value as 22 and 23.
These gets deleted from Front End View, but now again I load Same 23 rows to stg.Sales_Leaf with same data (after truncating it).
I should be able to see 23 records in Front End, but it is showing only 21 records.
Two records with CODE value as 22 and 23 are not reflecting in Fornt End.
I think it is because 'mdm.<table_code>' table associated with stg.Sales_Leaf, is reflecting Status_ID as 2.
Please provide the way, how can I get data reflected in Front End.

All error numbers between -20000 and -20999 are not Oracle errors but rather application errors coded by whoever wrote your software.
As previously suggested ... see your DBA or manager.

Help with EJB Arch: Synchronous front-end -- Asynchronous back-end

Hi folks, We are developing an application with the following characteristics: - users can invoke requests on our appl and they will expect a quick response - to obtain the information requested by the user, our application talks with Tibco using RV. This communication follows a pub/sub messaging paradigm and is asynchronous. - thus, we have a synchronous req/resp front-end and an asynch back-end.
We would like some advice as to the best way of architecting this application. Here is our approach. Please critic and suggest alternatives.
1. Consider an user who has requested something from our app. 2. The user will be using a JSP based front-end. (S)he submits the request on a form and a servlet is driven. 3. The servlet uses a session EJB and invokes one of its methods, which handles some business-specific logic. 4. The method in the session EJB then instantiates a helper class. 5. A method on our helper class is now driven. This method sends a message to Tibco and it provides a callback method in the helper class. 6. The method in the helper class blocks the thread - basically, it waits. 7. Meanwhile, Tibco does the processing and invokes the callback method (in the helper class) with the result. 8. In the callback method, the data sent by Tibco is stored in member variables of the helper class. 9. The callback method wakes up the blocking thread. 10. The method in step 6 wakes up and returns the information to the session EJB. 11. The session EJB returns the information to the invoking servlet. 12. The servlet provides the information back to the user.
The version of Tibco-RV that we are using is not JMS compliant.
We keep hearing that threads should be handled very carefully in an EJB container environment, so we would like to know if the way we are handling the thread in the helper class is okay. Could we remove the helper class and do the same thread-handling in the session EJB itself?
Can we use JMS in this solution even though our Tibco-RV does not support JMS?
Tools: Weblogic App Server 6.1, JBuilder 5.0.

Let me start off by mentioning that Sonic MQ (an excellent JMS server) now provides a bridge for TIB/Rendezous. I am also wrestling with a simliar issue, something that requires threading at the servlet or ejb level, and have given some thought to using JMS. My concern was that JMS is an asynchronous process so it's model does not fit well with the synchronous front end. Technically I can see a few ways to implement it but architecturally I am not convinced that they are sound. You could send a message from the session bean to the TIB via SonicMQ and have a JMS message bean registered as a listener for messages from the TIB, again via SonicMQ. The JMS bean could update a static class or singleton which your session checks but you still have the issue of making the session bean wait on that event.
I'll do a bit more digging and see if there's a design pattern available for this situation.

Latest Front-End Support pack - Report Designer

Hi,
We are having some formating related issues in Report Designer in some of the Finance reports. I believe this is because of missing latest Support Packs or Patches front end.... for example, in report designer we unable to see the settings in the property window (on left) to display column headings on each page.
We are on front-end pack: BI Add-on 7.10, Support Pack 5, Revision 529.
Back-end: Support Pack 16.
Is this the latest one (for Front-end)?
If not, can you please let me know what is the latest support pack/patches available?

In general, the frontend patches are released at the same time as backend patches...
Therefore,usually
FEP9 is released with SPS9.
FEP10 is released with SPS10.

OBIEE Front End Help Button

Good afternoon all.
Hope you all are well.
Here is my question.
Our company is busy making OBIEE 11G more visual and flexible for our users.
Is there any way in the Front End that we can Insert a Help button or a question mark icon and when you click on it, it provides you with details on that report or prompt you are using.
Any suggestions? Or do you have to make use of html as for i have no skills in html.

Oky just got the call that i will have to start with this.
Can i not just take the HTML and paste it into Text box on the Edit Dashboard and tick the "Contains HTML Markup" Box?
Put it in a column and section and then display it as part of the dashboard page?
Or do i have to design a new HTML page?
If so can you please provide the steps on how to design a new HTML file, and where to put it on the server etc?
