IBook G4 1GHz 12" - UPGRADE OPTIONS?

Want to change:
Hard Drive
Combo Optical to Superdrive
Memory to maximum
Am in UK so OWC and US options not so easy.
WD 320 ATA OK? It costs about 80GBP
Panasonic UJ867 is 9.5mm tall and can be had for around 83 GBP here
Only one slot? I guess 1GB max then?
Cheers

The WD 320 GB ATA hard drive is the largest available, and it would be a very good choice.
1 GB is the largest RAM that you can install in an iBook.
No idea about the superdrive. Hopefully someone else knows.
Good luck!

  • Leopard on iBook G4 1GHz

I am about to invest in 1GB of memory upgrade for my trusty iBook G4 1GHz, which means officially my system will rum Leopard. I want to here peoples experiences and opinions of how good the experience is though. Are iBook G4 people enjoying Leopard on their machines?
Without the memory upgrade I am running at 256mb of RAM and my 10.4 system is very slow, I have never really used Dashboard because of the speed, multitasking and using spotlight have made me a very patient person. I want to know if running 1025mb of RAM and Leopard would be a pleasent experience?
I know FrontRow and PhotoBooth will be not usable which does not bother me. It surprised me that DVD Player recommends 1.6 GHz processor or greater, but is not an issue as I use VLC Player most of the time.
I also noticed that iChat will restrict me to a resolution of 160x120; then again I never did use iChat.
Any thoughts or reviews would be much appreciated.
    Kindest regards.

    HI Jaime,
One very important thing to keep in mind before installing Leopard is that it requires 9GB of available drive space. If your iBookG4 has the factory drive, I believe it's 60GB ?? Just make sure you have sufficient available space. An easy way to view this information is to open Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilities folder. Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left. Click the First Aid Button.
Now, look down toward the bottom of the window, it will say: Capacity and Available. Another way to keep an eye on free drive space is to open a Finder window. That info is displayed that the bottom.

  • Which upgrade option from Panther to Tiger?

Okay, tomorrow is the big day; I'm going to upgrade from Panther 10.3.9 to Tiger 10.4.3. I recently had some issues with my iBook, but they were resolved and turned out to be hardware related. As part of my troubleshooting for that, though, I did an erase and install of Panther, so my OS is pretty "new", in terms of how long it's been on the drive.
I've checked on a firmware update for my external drive (used for backup), I've backed up my main drive and run MacJanitor, I'll be repairing the disk and permissions from the Panther installation disk tomorrow before doing the upgrade (and again afterwards). Oh, and I'll be disconnecting all peripherals before starting the process.
My question is, should I do an Archive and Install, or would just the Upgrade option be safe for me? Any opinions?
    Thanks for any replies.

My personal choice is the simple upgrade option. That preserves all of your custom settings and keeps everything in place. The A&I option is second best because some stuff moved to the Previous System folder has to be manually moved back. A disconcerting manual process. The E&I option requires reinstalling all 3rd-party items and resetting all of your preferences.

  • If apple bring out a new ipad after i purchase, is there an upgrade option available?

if i was to buy an ipad 2 today and in a months time the ipad 3 came out, would apple provide an upgrade option to upgrade to the new one??

They have never done so in the past, and I doubt that they would in the future. All that you've been able to do with Apple is return it for a full refund if it was within the returns timescale, and then buy a new one instead

  • Missing the visual upgrade option on SP 2010 site

I have a series of content databases that were upgraded from MOSS 2007. Most have not yet undergone the visual upgrade.
Today, I have been working on copying two of those sites to a new location.
I created two new team sites. These of course already had the visual upgrade.
I did an export-spweb of the two old sites. I then did an import-spweb of the two old sites into the new sites that I created.
The result is the two old style GUI in the new location.
When I took a look at the site settings (as a farm admin) I do not see an option to perform the visual upgrade on the sites.
I know that there are powershell commands that I can execute when the time is right.
I don't understand, however, where the visual upgrade option went.
Hmm - I just went back to the original sites that were copied and they too do not have the visual upgrade option in the site settings.
The top level site does, however, have that option.
    Odd...

    But export-spsite won't help.
    1. These sites were being copied from one part of a site collection tree to another branch in the same site collection.
    2. As I mentioned at the end of my posting, it turns out that the original sites had also lost their visual upgrade menu item - how, I do not know.
Because of these two factors - and maybe others - I was hoping there was a "simple fix" for this. But if there is not, then I just have to live wtih that.

  • Hey, I have an unopened iPad mini that I won at work and I'm wondering if there's an upgrade option where I can exchange this for an iPad mini with retina display? Thanks

Hey, I have an unopened iPad mini that I won at work and I'm wondering if there's an upgrade option where I can exchange this for an iPad mini with retina display? Thanks

Take it to an Apple store and ask. All they can do is say no. They may ask for a purchase receipt to make sure it's not stolen.

  • Why is it that the new macbook pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned to go much faster anyway?

Why is it that the new Macbook Pro processor upgrade option only offers up to 2.8 Ghz boosting to 3.3 Ghz with Intel Dual Core i7, when back in Sep 12 I bought a 2.9 Ghz boosting to 3.6 Ghz Intel Dual Core i7 Macbook, is the new one tuned somehow to go much faster anyway, or will the new one be slower in fact?  Or does the solid state drive compensate for the lack of increased processor capacity?

The CPU's come from different Intel 'families'.  The older ones are 'Ivy Bridge' and the newer ones are 'Haswell'.  Numbers alone will not determine the efficiency of  CPU.
    Ciao.

  • Any "discounted upgrade" option for new Acrobat 9 buyers when X is released?

I'm looking at buying Acrobat and as of right now, I notice that Adobe's website is only promoting the pre-ordering of version X (I can't even find an option to buy version 9 on here but can find it on Amazon and stuff).
I need to purchase a version of the software ASAP, but I'm just wondering:  If I were to buy 9 now (right before release of X) is Adobe going to have an upgrade option that will allow me to upgrade to X without having to pay full price for the software?  I'm looking at getting the highest level option (the $800 one).
Hopefully I posted this in the right section of the forum...
    Thanks.

    Thank you, George.
So, in other words, that means if I buy now through Amazon, I won't get the upgrade option (since it's a 3rd part site), despite the new release announcement, correct?
Is there a link anywhere on Adobe to buy version 9 now so I do qualify for the X upgrade?  I can't seem to find one...

  • Solaris 10 upgrade from 9 - Upgrade option not presented

I have moved the system disk from a v880 to a v480 and successfully booted.
I've successfully tested the upgrade using pfinstall.
    /usr/sbin/install.d/pfinstall -D /tmp/profile
I had the following text in /tmp/profile
    install_type upgrade
    root_device /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0
    This finished with:
Test run complete. Exit status 0.
I had to mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 to /a before running pfinstall otherwise the program would fail with Exit status 2.
    Original slice layout is:
    # df -h | grep c1t0
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 9.8G 4.2G 5.6G 43% /
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s3 9.8G 3.7G 6.1G 38% /usr
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s4 9.8G 3.9G 5.9G 40% /var
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s5 9.8G 1.8G 8.0G 19% /opt
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s6 20G 2.0G 18G 11% /export/home
    Because of http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-4041/6nfhjnlao?l=Ja&a=view
I moved var from slice 3 to / on slice 0
I also removed "swap" entries in vfstab, and even removed the second disk in the system (which didn't have an OS)
    ok> boot cdrom - nowin
this results with no upgrade option presented
Can someone tell me what I can do? I don't have experience with Jumpstart or Live upgrade
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Yes and no.
11gR1 and 11gR2 are fully supported (premier support). 10gR1 and 10gR2 are in extended support. About 9.2 it's a bit more complicated and the general extended support ended : check note 161818.1 for further details.
After the extended support there is still the sustaining support.
Read that to understand the notions :

  • How to update SP2010 sites that are missing the Visual Upgrade options

So, we are moving towards upgrading some SP 2010 sites that are currently using the old SP 2007 look and feel so that they have the new ribbon Visual Upgrade.
For some reason, some of these sites do not have the Site Actions > Visual Upgrade option nor do they have the Site Actions > Site Settings > Visual Upgrade link.
Does anyone know what can be done to make those available?
    Thank you.

Even when I take a look at
    http://myfarm/sites/Support/dept1/_layouts/prjsetng.aspx?Source=http%3A%2F%2Fmyfarm%2Fsites%2FSupport%2Fdept1%2FPages%2Fdefault%2Easpx
which is where the site actions > visual upgrade link should take the user, that page does not have the visual upgrade options on it.

I just opened my database : startup upgrade and it started up.
But couldn't perform a backup. As you said you have started the DB in upgrade mode and trying to take the backup of database. I think you can't take the backup of DB in upgrade mode. Please shut it down first and start up it in normal mode and do the backup.
Which backup strategy you are following?
What you exactly want to do upgrade the database or trying to take a bcakup?

  • Macbook Pro (early 2011) memory upgrade options

What are my memory upgrade options with a Macbook Pro (early 2011, 2.2 GHx Intel Core i7), currently with 4 GB of memory (2 GB X 2) of 1333 MHz DDR3 (PC3-10600S)? My manual says I'm limited to 4 GB x 2 = 8 GB of memory. Does that mean that the 8 GB X 2 = 16 GB option that's available will not work in my Macbook Pro?

MacBook Pro 15 inch Early 2011
    You can install 16GB (2 x 8GB modules) in a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2011 model.
    Apple tested with only 8GB (2 x 4GB modules).

  • Upgrade option took different version of my system!

After installing 10.5 with the upgrade option, I noticed the installer upgraded the system from an older backup with a different home folder name (A), and then put my most recent library into the users folder under a different name (B). Thus, the data I want to be current on my computer is put into an archive library B, and I don't know how to get that into A so that it can be used by the system.
A while back I had problems booting while in 10.3, and I did a system restore using the install disk. Then, essentially, the 10.5 installer took the library of my system right before my boot problem (A) when it upgraded, and put B, the library of my system after the boot problem, into the users folder.
    Any solutions?
Let me know if this doesn't make sense or if I need to dig up that boot problem.
    Thanks much,

    anyone?
Can I just replace the old library with the new one?
