ICal Server 404 HTTP Error

Hi all,
I'm having a perplexing issue with iCal server. Every now and again, iCal reports that it encountered an HTTP 404 error with my iCal account on one of my Lion servers. I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone else having this issue? Any suggestions?

Do you ever get 404 errors accessing server.example.com/webcal ?
If you are using SSL check that your SSL sertificat is correctly set for iCal. In Server app go to Hardware => Server => Settings => SSL Certificate.
You can try enabling the webcal manually by doing this:
iCal with SSL:
sudo webappctl start com.apple.webapp.webcalssl
iCal without SSL:
sudo webappctl start com.apple.webapp.webcal
This rebuilds you apache httpd.conf and restarts apache which suppressing often solves problems in Lion Server. Alternatively you might try to disable all services, change your servers hostname (just go through the process but change the hostname to what the hostname already is) and then re-enable all your services.

A 404 error is a server error and can only be 'cured' by the mainatiner of that server not by you.

DMM 5.1 - 404 HTTP Error

Hi,
I am trying to connect to DMM5.1 admin page for the first time and yet getting a 404 error. I am sure I can ping the hostname of the DMM and it matches the same one configure on DMM applicance. I am using the URL http://<DMM Hostname>:8080 and no luck. I am getting the following error:

Glad to see someone else is having this issue. I've used VMs of the demo 5.1 without a problem, and on several different machines. Now I'm trying to set up a server from scratch and get the same issue as the previous post.
I know my DNS is working, I can ping the hostname of the server fine, and I can access another DMM that is running as a VM fine, but not this machine. I have restarted everything and flushed DNS on the computer I am trying to use to http to the DMM (when I had the same IP address for one physical and one virtual DMM, and tried to disconnect one and switch between the two).
I have reloaded a new ISO, one I downloaded and one was downloaded by a coworker, and both do exactly the same thing. My next step will be to try to download and run the 5.2 ISO. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to do.

Content server 404 auth error

hopefully this is where this should be posted.
we have a pc-ui application that needs to retrieve a signature that was captured via crm mobile sales and sychcronized to crm online. currently we can not get the signature to synchronize.
we are trying to synch a captured signature and are getting error messages in the sBdoc's indicating http 404 authorization failure, before this error we had "no user" set up in sicf sap/bc/contentmanagement
the demo system shows a dialog user of crmixos with no special authorizations. what is the best way to set up a user and what authorizations are needed?
also our demo system uses (I think) a http content repository while we are using a storage category of r/3 database.

With the updated 401, is just means that you have to "stand and identify" yourself to the server. Somehow you will have to send you authentication information.
If you should ask the best way, then of course HTTPS.
Alternatives are using simple basic authentication, putting name+password in ICF (only if you really understand the consequence of this and have read the documentation on not using a dialog user), placing it in the URL (not recommended as it lands in the browser history), using SSO2.

JSP Portlet Returns 404 HTTP Error

Hello,
I have a portlet provider that is a simple JSP page that passes a select query string to a table in the database, straight forward. In JDeveloper the JSP and related Classes work fine. As a portlet the provider is registered and the JSP page where the query is entered all function fine, but when a query string is entered and the submit button is pressed the result is a blank page or 404 error. Any thoughts?

i would guess the action parameter in your form is the problem.
in a standard JSP, called "myPage.jsp", if you want to page to post to itself,
you simply use <form action="mypage.jsp" method="post">
however, a portlet is simply a content region on a PL/SQL page.
your JSP needs to use the Java Portlet APIs to determine what page it's on,
and then post to that page, listening for params on the refresh.
in other words, the JSP does not exist as a unique entity,
and therefore would be expected to generate a 404 on request.

Incorrect Path Error - iCal Server 10.6

Hi everyone, hope you can help.
Another problem to add to the iCal server pile...
To workaround the lack of group calendar functionality, I have created a 'special' user which several staff members use to log into iCal server. This way, all staff can view and edit the same calendar data.
I configured all the Macs using iCal's automatic account creation process, and everything authenticated and worked just fine for a couple of days.
However, we then all received an iCal error advising that we check the server path to the shared calendar. It has been trying to look in here:
/principals/_uids_/<UUID of user>
I have confirmed that the UUID in the above path is consistent and correct with the 'special' user mentioned before. So... why does it work for a couple of days then fail?
I have tried removing and re-adding the account, again the error only comes up a day or two later.
*Additional Info*
I cannot find the principals folder referenced above. However, I do have the following:
Server HD/Library/CalendarServer/Documents/calendars/_uids_/1E/E2/<UUID of user>
This looked strangely similar. Using terminal, I copied the UUID folder in the above path into the _uids_ directory, and that seems to have provided a temporary fix to the problem. However, iCal is still configured to look in the principals directory, not the calendars directory that I seem to have modified.
Any thoughts?

Agreed - I also suspected it had something to do with a software update.
Still this does not fully explain the fact I cannot find the principals directory referenced in the path error. Does anybody know where this would be located on the server's HD?
At some point soon I will run a clean Snow Leopard client install back to plain 10.6 to see if I can connect to the iCal server without the error. Will also run the combo 10.6.2 updater to see if we can narrow down which update triggered the problem, if any.
If anyone could shed light on the 'principals' path it would be useful.
Oh, also, it's worth mentioning my OS X Server is not running Open Directory. All users are registered locally on the machine rather than in the LDAP domain.

ICal Server - Can't log in with Kerberos?

Hello, I have been struggling the past few days getting ical server properly installed and configured to incorporate into our environment (just installed 10.6 server). I am very new to Kerberos, in fact never heard of it before getting into this, but would like to possibly use it as an authentication option. I have my master open directory installed and running, it says Kerberos is running, ldap as well as password server, all running. I created some test users in the LDAPv3/127.0.0.1 directory with open directory password types. I have opened ticket viewer and assigned tickets to these test users. In my Ical settings in server admin, I have authentication type set to kerberos. When I try to add an account via my ical client on my workstation (also 10.6 just installed), it searches and I get the message:
"Ical found the CALDAV server "servername" but couldn't log in with the user name "username". Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then try again"
If I click next and go to the calendar server options screen I select Ical server template, the port changes to 8443 I believe and I change it back to the default of 8008, and click use kerberos v5 for authentication, and uncheck Use SSL as I have that off. I then get the message of:
"Authentication failed. The server does not support Kerberos authentication."
Now, if I go completely backward, and change my iCal server authentication type to Digest, or Any Method, I can log in using any of my local user names and passwords and any open directory password users. This is great because it shows me the system is working, and I can get in, however what I don't quite understand is if I log in with a different/various usernames and passwords, I get a separate calendar for each login. When watching the apple demo video of Ical server here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bzMTpLv-EE&feature=related , it seems there is one calendar, and multiple users are logging in using different logins, but accessing the same calendar.
So I guess my main questions are, why isn't Kerberos working, and how do I get it to work, am I missing something? And how do I get Ical server to operate the way it is in the video, so people log in with different various logins but are able to see the same "work" calendar as shown in the video.

One additional piece of information that I don't know if it is a bug or if anyone else has this problem, but when I am logged in with a user, and access my address panel via my ical client, none of my locations, resources, people, or groups show up, every category is empty. However, if I start to type a search for a location name or user that I know the name of that I have added, THEN it will show up and I can click/select it. Almost behaving completely backwards, any ideas why these are not showing up without using the search??? Thank you again.

Asking again: any fixes for http:/1.1 300 and 500 errors in iCal-Server?

I've set up several OS X servers in the last few months, most of them with ical services up and running. Quite everything works smooth, but most customers experience sooner or later errors like
http:/1.1 300... (mostly with repeating events, which seem to be buggy in iCal&CalDAV already for a long time)
http:/1.1 500...
neither are there any relevant entries in the log, nor does it occur on a regular base - in fact, we can observe these errors all 2 or 3 weeks or so. Stopping an restarting of iCal services usually fixes them. DNS is set up perfectly well, including the SRV-entries.
What about you? Do we just have to live with these errors? Or do I really have to sell Kerio to my customers?

I have had a few years setting up and administering various calendar options on Xserve.
The Apple built in iCal server is by far the worst of the lot.
Previous to that we used phpicalendar- http://phpicalendar.net/documentation/index.php/Main_Page
It is a bit dated and does not support the same feature set as the Apple one. It works well though.
Kerio on the other hand is great, works well and is easy to use, apart from accepting invites on iOS devices. Its also a much better mailserver than Apple's one.
Another option is to write a script to run everyday to stop and restart the ical service?

Well this morning I woke up to see that my site hosted on Windows Azure was producing 50X errors and in general being incredibly slow (up to 60 seconds response time).
Now after looking through the DetailedErrors folder I see that the error received is:

I tried creating a new test website and host it and guess what? I receive the exact same error here as well.

How do I correct http error 404?

I use Mountain Lion on my new iMac. Every time I open iCal I get the following message: The server responded with an error. The URL https://clandar.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user///clandar.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user/ encountered HTTP error 404. Make sure the URL is correct. That file might have moved to a different location on the server. I think you'll need to check with RefWorks support or your local IT department on why the install page links do not work.

I have changed the note server definition in the external app to add the mail directory in front of the mail file name 'mail/mufile.nfs' and I get the following error:

OD errors in iCal Server (won't allow iCal Server to run)...

Can anyone help me solve the OD errors I'm seeing in iCal Server?
The Xserve I'm trying to run iCal Server on is connected to an OD Master.
I can't get iCal Server running on this as a result (though, any other Xserves on the network, also connected to the same OD Master, have no problem running iCal Server).
All other services on this Xserve (web, AFP, wiki, etc.) that rely on OD-based accounts work fine.
Any insight would be appreciated!

ICal Server Email invitations HTTP post to SMTP server?

Hello all - We have an iCal server truing to post HTTP to an external SMTP server for email invitations. In the caldav error log:

Let me know if I can provide more information. I have reset the iCal email invitation /server settings numerous times with no effect.

Apparently the answer is Google Calendar.
