ICloud unauthorized charge for "upgrade"?

I discovered I'm being charged $40 a year for "upgraded" iCloud storage I never ordered.  Apple Support is useless as they say they can't fix iCloud issues refer you to website support which wants to charge for "Express Lane" support to get them to take off a phony charge on iCloud.
Has anyone run into iCloud unathorized "upgrading" and charging and how did you fix it since Apple Support wants to charge $50 to talk to them about stopping their unathorized $40 "upgrade" charge.

Roger Wilmut1 London, UK  Have you checked that you have actually be charged this? The upgrade is, as said, temporary and free.
Several charges from Apple in October 2011 when they say I "signed up" for iCloud.  I only noticed it when they just killed MobileMe/iDisk and I had to go there to setup up FindMyiPhone and see I'm signed up for $40 year of iCloud storage.
My guess is that was during iCloud rollout when they were trying to get people to drop MobileMe/iDisk and use iCloud until you found out what a disaster iCloud is.   If you said yes to opening an iCloud account they automatically billed for $40 upgrade.
Apparently the scam is it is "free" but  it automatically defaults to "autopay" so user gets charged for unordered storage.
Probably a great "class action" suit for some enterprising lawyer, I'll just put it down to fool me twice, shame on Apple.

  • Cancellation charge for upgrading ?

Hello, I recently got a rather unplesant surprise with my latest bill when I recieved a £76.51 charge for upgrading my broadband from option 1 to the option 3. Now having read the terms I was under the belief that the only actions chargeable were downgrading or cancellation so can somebody please enlighten me as to where this has come from? Thanks

Seems to happen a lot maybe you mentioned cancel in the same sentence as upgrade that would probably be enough
I would contact the forum mods it may take a day or two for them to reply but will be the best and in the long run quickest way to sort it

  • Will I be charged for upgrade from OSX 10.7.4 version to 10.7.6 version?

Will I be charged for upgrade from OSX 10.7.4 version to 10.7.6 version?
When I check for the software upgrade on my Mac-book Air, it is showing that the above upgrade is available. Will it be charged? I am not asked the ‘ Apple ID’ before start of up gradation process , does that mean that such upgrades are free?
If yes, How much are the chargers for such upgrades?
    Thanks for your inputs.

    10.7.6 does not exist.
The next one will be Mountain Lion 10.8 and will cost a little amount.
The Mountain Lion is not an "update", but an "upgrade": a different OS: before installing you should check the compatibilty of your hardware and software.

  • So, I was hit with an unauthorized charge for the first time...

... Certainly could've done without that in my life. Was winding down on my phone before going to sleep, and received an email from Chase. I have my phone set up so that it silences between 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM, so I have to say I was really glad I wasn't able to fall asleep tonight. Someone made a charge for $143.94 at Match.com (how can you make a charge that expensive on Match? Is the membership expensive like that...?), Chase asked me online if I authorized it. Clicked no, and they said they blocked my account, and would call me tomorrow. Logged onto my account to make sure that there were no other unauthorized charges (even though I have email alerts for charges over $1, alerts can delay or fail so you never know!) just to make sure. When I logged off, I got this as an ad: I'm covered? Yeah, no kidding, haha! Should I be concerned, still? How does Chase tend to handle things like this, are they good about it? I take identity protection really seriously. My only other card (Slate) has the same charge alerts, and has been SD since I got it (it's an emergency card). I use a privacy browser that encrypts data and blocks tracking when making online purchases. My spend tends to run around the same stores I've used for years (and I haven't been making many purchases at all, since I'm paying down balance), and since getting the EMV card, I've only made two purchases—one at Target to buy some medication, and one at Staples to fax an important document—and both with the EMV terminal. Could the information have been stolen there? I don't know, I'm still really jittery from this situation—my hands are shaking and I even feel like crying a little bit. $150 isn't a lot for other people, but it's definitely a lot for someone like me. I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight, haha...

Alright, so last night, I couldn't sleep. Sunrises can be a little slow.
Received a phone call this morning, did the song and dance, and she said I would get a new card within 3-5 days. When I hung up, because I was so rattled about this, I didn't bother to recheck the phone number to make sure it was legit! She had my personal info, but she asked me my email as well (not username or password, but...)!
I have 2-step verification on my email account, so I'm not concerned that (if the call was not legit) that they would go much further. Changed all of my passwords last night as well. And no SSN info was asked, so there's that. She also made me aware of two other previous pending charges that have been there for a few days (which are legit, I had been tracking them), so I feel slightly more sure that it was legit.
Checked back at the email and webpage provided to look at the security certificate, and it checks out fine. Nevertheless, I called at the back of my card because, by then, I was already nearly crying over my oversight--anxiety issues and a lack of sleep will do that to you, heh...
This CSR tells me that, indeed, my card had been compromised, and confirmed that the account had been blocked and that they were not overnighting the card, that it would arrive in 3-5 days (which also eases me, as the woman said they were sending it via regular mail and gave the same timeframe).
Regardless, I'm the world's biggest worrywart, so I requested a fraud alert on my CRs. I don't know what to do with myself now. What else can I do to protect myself? Had a good cry, I think I'll try and get some sleep, finally...
Thanks for warning me about the passwords, though, I hadn't thought about it until some of you said so!

  • Charged for upgrade and never finished the upgrade

In august I went to the local verizon store after realizing I was eligible for an upgrade. Online I was able to get an iPhone or galaxy for free but when I went to the store that was not the case. I started the upgrade process in the store but did not have the funds necessary so had to cancel. Now that it is almost Christmas my husband wants to get me a new phone but my upgrade date shows 2016 and after going back through my bills I was charged the upgrade fee even though I never successfully completed the upgrade. Has anyone else had this problem? I have about had enough with verizon and am thinking of switching if I resolve this matter and once my husbands line is out of contract.

Thank you for bringing this up to our attention, Jlditton. If you never went through with your device upgrade, that should not have been charged and changed. We recommend reaching out to us at customer service: 1-800-922-0204, in order to have this reviewed.

  • I was penalized with overage charge for upgrading my plan online

I just switched from AT&T in Oct and signed up with the 700 min Family plan. In Nov, I realized I was going to go over the limit if I don't upgrade my plan. So I went online and upgraded my plan to 1400 min Family plan. When I looked at my current bill yesterday, I was surprised to see there was a $102 overage charge on my bill. I talked to a representative yesterday and asked her to explain about the overage charge. She said because I upgraded the plan online (on demand), my 498 used min were prorated which resulted in 227 min overage.
I said the reason for my upgrading the plan was to avoid overage. I did not exceed the 700 min in my old plan and I was not aware I am only allowed 25 min a day if I change my plan in the middle of the billing cycle. I can understand the proration of my monthly access charge (from $70 to $90 per month) but I don't understand the proration of used min. I pay for 700 min per month not 25 min a day. She offered me a 25% discount of the overage charge which I did not accept.
I called VZW this morning and talked to a different representative. I asked her if I would have upgraded my plan by talking to a representative instead of doing it myself online, will I incur the overage charge. She said the representative would have backdated the change which would avoid the overage charge. I asked her was it fair that because I tried to save VZW resources of not utilizing the time of a customer representative and going online to upgrade the plan myself, I incurred a penalty in the form of overage charge. She couldn't answer my question.
I asked her if she could remove the $102 overage charge. She said she couldn't but offered to make another adjustment which still resulted in $47.50 overage charge. I thanked her for doing more than the CS the day before and unwillingly accept the adjustment. I told her I am still not satisfied with the settlement and how VZW penalizes customers for trying to make it easy for them by upgrading online directly.
Lesson learned: Don't upgrade or change anything online without talking to a customer representative. I am looking for a new wireless carrier as soon as I can.

You want the amount you are charged to be pro-rated, but not the amount of minutes you are able to use? Say you start the month with the 700 minute plan and change half way thru to the 1400 minute plan. You want to only pay half of the cost of the 700 minute plan for the 1st half of the month and still use ALL of the minutes? You then want to pay half of the cost of the 1400 minute plan for the  2nd half of the month? After all, you are only on the 1400 minute plan for half of the month. I suppose you should also receive all of the 1400 minutes for the 2nd half of the month? That comes out to 2100 minutes for the price of half of the 700 minute plan + half of the price of the 1400 minute plan. Quite a deal you want there!

She couldn't answer my question. When you do this online, you are able to choose to have the 1400 minute plan take effect at the BEGINNING of the CURRENT billing cycle, which would have prevented you from receiving the overage charge. It doesn't matter whether you do it online or with a representative over the phone/instore, you could have avoided the overage charge by starting the new plan at the BEGINNING of the CURRENT billing cycle(backdating).
I asked her if she could remove the $102 overage charge. She said she couldn't but offered to make another adjustment which still resulted in $47.50 overage charge. I told her I am still not satisfied with the settlement and how VZW penalizes customers for trying to make it easy for them by upgrading online directly. They don't penalize you for doing this online, as I have pointed out that you have the same choices whether it is online or via a CS rep. They will penalize you, though, if you make a choice which will result in overages.
Lesson learned: Don't upgrade or change anything online without talking to a customer representative. I am looking for a new wireless carrier as soon as I can.
Next time, if you are increasing your minute plan, just make sure that you have it backdated to avoid any overages. You can still do it online, though.

  • HT4847 I had to upgrade my iCloud storage plan, but I was still charged for the original $20 a year plan. In addition to the new $40 a year plan. How do I remove the $20 plan and get a refund? Can I stop them from charging both plans?

I upgraded my iCloud plan from $20 to $40 a year. However, I am still being charged for both plans. How do I get a refund and or remove the original $20 a year plan?

I have the exact same situation as you mattiger18.  I cannot install Lion or I will disrupt programs that I run on Snow Leopard that are critical for my work.  Apple is not providing a solution for us.  Last time they migrated from Mobile Me to iCloud they lost months of emails and had emails bouncing to my accounts.  They destroyed 8 weeks of my business.  They have done it again.  They have already lost several months of my emails and they are bouncing my business email.  It's outrageous!
I spent thousands of $ on my software and I have no intention of installing Lion or other OS iterations.  It is bad enough that Apple's service patches are crippling some of my applications.  My biggest regret was not altogether getting off of iCloud and setting up all my business email on other email servers like gmail, etc.  It is so outrageous what Apple is doing it is beyond words.  They are supremely greedy and totally uncaring for their customers.

  • Apple automatically charged me for an iCloud upgrade on a device I do not own anymore or know of the current owner. Even though I deleted the device from my account I was still charged for a device I do not have anymore

Apple automatically charged me for an iCloud upgrade on a device I do not own anymore or know of the current owner. Even though I deleted the device from my account I was still charged for a device I do not have anymore. It's very difficult to get to talk to anyone from support. How can I be refunded?

Yes, assuming they are currently on the computer.
If the iPhone has been used as designed, contacts are either in a supported application on the computer or are synced to a cloud service.
Pictures would be copied to the comptuer regularly and then those desired to be on the device would be synced back.

If you want to downgrade your storage to the free 5GB at the end of the current plan year, tap Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Change Storage Plan, tap Downgrade options then choose the plan you want at the end of the current year.
If you want a refund for a recent storage upgrade purchase, try calling 1-800-MYAPPLE (in the U.S.).
