Ideapad S400 touchpad jumpy when ethernet cable plugged in

I have an Ideapad S400. Lately when i plug in my ethernet cable(router, switch, different cable, tried everything) the touchpad behaves erratic, but only if i run on battery.
Have updated drivers, reinstalled windows even tried ubuntu... same results.
I'm concerned it may be a hardware issue.
Anyone had similar problems?
FIx?
Thank you in advance

  • Ethernet Cable Plugged Into Mac Mini, but it says it isn't.

I'm all new to the MacWorld, just got my Mac Mini yesterday. . . .
So I want to create a network between my PC + Mac by direct Ethernet for the Internet and file sharing.
I've got everything done on the PC end, but when I try to get it working on my Mac it says that there is no Ethernet Cable plugged in :S
Any suggestions on what to do?
Mac Mini - Intel Solo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

If I understand you, you have run a cable directly from your pc to your mac. If this is the case, you need to run a crossover cable, not a standard ethernet cable.

  • Snow Leopard: I can't login when ethernet cable is plugged in.

I have a Aluminum 2007 iMac running Snow Leopard. When I try and boot it with all the cables plugged in (Keyboard, External Harddrive, Speakers, Ethernet, Second Display), it will bring up the login screen but then when I try and login, it will just hang at the default Snow Leopard Aurora Wallpaper. It shows the cursor but doesn't load the Finder or anything else. After leaving it be for a few mins, I restarted it a few times and it did the same thing. I have Archived and Installed a few times so far and that didn't fix it.
When I tried unplugging all the cables, it booted properly and works like a charm. When I plugged the Ethernet Cable in and booted it, it freezes like it used to. I tried plugging in other things and they work. But when the ethernet cable is plugged in at Startup, it will freeze at the default wallpaper (Located in System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg).
When I have the ethernet cable it will boot into Safe Boot.
Then when I booted it up without the ethernet cable it brought up two alert windows saying that Insecure Startup Item disabled. It says that /Library/StartupItems/tap and /Library/StartupItems/tun have can't be started because they don't have proper security settings. I looked them up and they appear to be Virtual Networking Interfaces (probably installed when I installed Parallels 4.0). Removing them and restarting with the ethernet cable in still has the same affect as before (freezing).
Anyone have any idea the ethernet cable is causing this to not login correctly.
    Additional Information:
    iMac
    1TB HDD
    3GB RAM

I suspect that it's busy trying to mount a network file system of some type.
Are there any errors in your logs that seem appropriate (viewable via Applications->Utilities->Console?)

  • Can't log in with ethernet cable plugged in

I have a whole department that has the same basic image and exact same workstations as other departments but solely has issues logging into their computers after a restart or shutdown. To log back in, they need to unplug their ethernet cables. Otherwise,
it never gets passed the welcome screen. After looking through the event logs, I see that when they are trying to log in with the cable plugged in they get an error stating:
    Error      4/23/2014 10:31:52 AM  Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy             1055       None     "The processing
of Group Policy failed. Windows could not resolve the computer name. This could be caused by one of more of the following:
    a) Name Resolution failure on the current domain controller.
    b) Active Directory Replication Latency (an account created on another domain controller has not replicated to the current domain controller)."
It seems that they are getting in with cached credentials and I've looked up the error and tried to see if there are DNS issues with the workstations being able to contact the DC and I can't quite figure out why this is happening. Does anyone have any suggestions
as to why this is happening? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I have been thinking about rejoining the machine to the domain but it is difficult to log in to the machine as an admin or any other acct that isn't the common user of the machine so I haven't tried it. All of the machines in that department aren't connected
on the same switch. The dept does not have a separate DC and it is not an RODC, it's a global catalog DC. I haven't run rsop.msc but have run a GPresult and I don't see any errors.
    Thanks

  • I can't get the AirPort extreme to recognize a MagicJack connection.  It's an ethernet cable plugged into one of the lan ports and the led won't even light up.

My wireless network is working fine.  I have an AirPort extreme hooked to a cable modem and all other devices around the house can get into the network.
However, I am trying to hook up a MagicJack to the AirPort via an ethernet cable without success.  The AirPort has 3 lan ports for this kind of purpose.  The MagicJack works fine when plugged into my Mac's USB port, but it seems to slow the Mac down too much.
I have tried a new cable, checked that I have power and have rummaged through AirPort Utility, but cannot get the AirPort port to even light up.  I've also restarted and rebooted both the AirPort and the cable modem multiple times.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks

KiltedTim.  You nailed it.  I tried the MJ directly into the cable modem and still can't get a phone line.  I'll see what MJ can do now.
Thanks and thanks to alanoconner for your help.

  • No power when IDE cable plug into mainboard

The motherboard I'm working with is a K7 Pro ATX IR3 Mainboard. Whenever I plug in the IDE cable to the mainboard, it seemed that there is no power coming from the power supply. I tried this with a cd-rom and the light isn't lit or do anything. As soon as I unplug the IDE cable from the mainboard, the CD-ROM works...meaning I can push the button for open and close. All the lights, HD and Power lights, on the front of the case are not even flashing or turn on.
If anyone has any suggestion I'm greatly appreciated.

     ?(

Sorry for the confusion. In this situation when I talked about cable, I mean the IDE cable or floppy cable and not the power supply cable. I have one floppy, cd-rom drive, hard drive, sound card, and a video card. I believed the power supply is a 400 watt, although I'm sure. I just purchased this last week so I am pretty it'll handle what I am trying to do. When I turn the computer on these are the things I believed that are running with all three cables one end plugged into the mainboard and the other end to the devices such floppy, hard drive, and cd-rom.
    cpu
    cpu fan
    case fan
    D-LED light is on
Devices that are not runing with all three cables plugged in to the mainboard and the other end to the devices such floppy, hard drive, and cd-rom.
    floppy drive
    cd-rom drive
    hard drive
    HD LED light
    Power LED light
Now, if I unplug all the cables from the mainboard or from the devices then all the devices seem to have power coming to it.

  • Ibook Indigo 466SE Touchpad unresponsive when power adapter plugged in.

I've had this power adapter for about a year now (after the OEM adapter was damaged). I mostly use this as a backup to our desktop or when traveling (which is rare due to the economy). About two weeks ago I started to notice that the touchpad was sticky. I also noticed alot of interference when I hooked it up to the TV while the power adapter was attached.
Should I be worried? Do I need a new adapter (or an OEM adapter)?
Any help would be appreciated, I love this limited buy still quite functional old ibook.

When you go to the Support in the main webpage, you select iBook, and in the left side there`s a lot of useful articles, I found this that could be related to your trackpad problem. Check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449
    it says this: {quote} Apple has had some reports of this behavior related to power supplies made by a third party company. If you are using one of these power adapters, unplug it and try running from the Apple battery to see how the trackpad behaves. Also try using the Apple AC adapter instead of the third-party AC adapter. If the trackpad behaves normally while running from the Apple battery or adapter, there is most likely an issue with your third-party adapter.{quote}
You can also check the trackpad cable (you need to remove the RAM shield)

  • Cinema display goes off when USB cable plugged in

WhenI plug my USB/firewire cable into the computer the screen goes black.
I have used this display for years and never had any problems.
The computer is about a year old but both have worked together since they first met!
    Any ideas?
I see similar questions online but no reponse from Apple??!!??

What kind of computer is it connected to?  Is there anything else connectted to usb?  If so try disconnecting them.
    Try smc reset.

  • [845 Series] 845E MAx2: CPU cooler and power supply stop when power cable plugged in to HDD

    Board: MSI 845E Max2
    BIOS: 6398E V.1
    UPDATED BIOS: 6398IMS V.5.7 040203
    CPU: Intel Celeron 1,7GHz
    RAM: 512GB Infineon
    Power: ATX 300W
Hard Disks: WD and Maxtor 10GB-30GB
    Hi all,
whenever I plug in the power cable to the hard disk computer shuts down after 2-5 seconds. If I try to start it again nothing happens. So I need to plug off and on the ATX-connector again so that the power supply works and the CPU-fan spins. However, as long as a hard drive is attached (it does not even need to be connected to any of the IDE-controller; having connected to the power supply is sufficient) it shuts down.
    Following tests were done:
1- other hard disks were used
2- other power supply resources were used
3- computer was started with short connecting the power switch through the respective pins
Still the same result. If no hard disk is plugged in, system starts fine.
So I flashed the bios to A6398ims.570 without connecting the hard disks (since no hard disk drives were available the win98 start diskette created a c drive in the physical memory - afaiu - and I flashed the bios via this generated c drive). But nothing is changed!
    Does anyone have an idea?

    Hi again,
after reading the PSU guide I used a HDD which was 20GB (an older one of app. 4 years) and system booted normally. It seems that the PSU of 300W was having a difficulty of serving the relative newer HDD with power. I will test it with a min. 400W PSU and let you know if the problem is completely solved.
    Thanks for your helpful comments.

  • Lenovo Ideapad S400 touchpad stoped working

My touchpad stoped working and need help

    Update!
This is by no means solved, but I do think it's >improved<.
I found a newer driver (v. 11.4.7.1). The mouse pointer still has some delay, but it isn't as unbearable as it was before. I do find that the left click "button" is not always reliable (the single tapping is more reliable). But it's better and corroborates my thought that this is mainly a software issue. I also disabled all the multi-finger functions.
The link for the new driver is here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS032199

  • Erratic trackpad when ethernet plugged in

    Hi,
I've got a brand new MBP 15" with a trackpad that works perfectly while on wireless. However, as soon as I plug in an ethernet cable - even when the network is not being used - the trackpad immediately becomes erratic and unusable.
As soon as I unplug the ethernet cable, the trackpad reverts to working fine again.
It only seems to be a problem when on battery.
There's a post from Jan 2010 that reports exactly the same problem but is now archived so I can't respond to it.
    To summarise,
Ethernet cable plugs in --> Trackpad doesn't track correctly.
Ethernet cable out --> Trackpad tracks fine.
Is this a known problem ? Should I be taking the laptop back to Apple ?
    Thanks !
    Andrew

    Hi,
AS the MacBook Pro is new I would take advantage of the Service and AppleCare level you still have.

  • Unresponsive Novo Menu When Ethernet Plugged In (u430 Touch)

    Hello,
I have an interesting problem with my u430 Touch.  Recently I needed access to the boot menu, and I found that when I use the Novo button with an ethernet cable plugged in it will hang after a variable (but small) amount of time.
I tested this multiple times and found it only hangs when ethernet is plugged in.  Can someone else try this with their u430 Touch and see if they get the same results?  Perhaps this is a bug in the Novo menu.
    - Jon

You cannot share an IP address amongst two devices without some intelligence on the device you're connecting to. You need load-balancing in there to do that properly.
    Picture it this way:
Your MAC sends OUT information on it's highest priority port - in this case en0.
Your router responds to the IP address by using ARP (address resolution protocol) to resvolve the IP address to the interface's MAC address. My guess is the ARP table on your router shows that the IP address resolves to the MAC address of the wireless.
ARP is cached. If you cleared the cache on the router the Ethernet Port may respond to the ARP request and you'll get the routing that you want.
It's not really a workable solution in my opinion - sharing one IP amongst two distinct interfaces. ARP is going to get properly twisted.

  • HT4796 Migration assistant is telling me that it has lost connection with my Mac and to ensure they are on the same network.  They are, and an ethernet cable is plugged into them.  What do i do?

Migration Assistant has been running since yesterday evening.  My Dell is now telling me that its trying to reconnect to my Mac and to ensure they are both using the same network.  I have an Ethernet cable plugged in them and they are both on the same WiFi.  What can I do?

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)
    greetings Lasource

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 refuses to be recognized by my Windows 7 via router, USB or Ethernet cable

This is a really strange problem. I owned a computer store for 20 years and I had never encountered a wierd problem such as this. It really has me scratching my head.
I purchased the HP wireless printer 3 days ago, replacing a Kodak all in one wireless printer that I used for 3 months.
I have been trying for the past 3 days, working up to 10 hours per day on it, trying to get my main tower computer with 32 bit Windows 7 to recognize the printer via the wireless router, the USB cable direct and Ethernet cable from the router to the printer with no success.
The tower is hard wired to a TP-Link router.
Strange as it is, my 2 laptops, one with Windows Xp and the other with Windows Vista, had no problem at all connecting, accepting, installing and printing out test sheets for me. Both notebooks installed as they should have.  However, my tower with 32 bit Windows 7  absolutely will not connect. There has to be something in the tower that is causing this problem.
I have tried to connect directly to the printer using an USB cable from my tower to the printer, it failed.
I have tried using an Ethernet cable plugged directly from the router to the printer, that failed also.
I have uninstalled the HP software 4 times, cleaned the registry and reinstalled the HP software with no different results.
I have booted up with minimum Microsoft files only, I have booted up in safe mode, I have booted up as Administrator - still the tower will not recognize the printer.
I have downloaded & installed the HP software as well as using the CD, the patch, the firmware upgrade and several other programs that HP offers, none has helped.
I have scanned and scanned the internet for possible solutions now for 3 days, nothing I have tried has worked yet.
I have removed my anti-virus software and shut off the firewall. It made no difference at all.
I manually added the HP printer on my tower via the control panel, it would not connect to the printer that way either.
I have restored my registry numerous times back to before any attempts to add the printer, that didn't help.
However, I can access the printer via my internet browser by typing in the printer's address  192.165.1.106
Believe it or not,  I can print a test page from there and I can also scan the test page. I just can't get my tower to recognize this printer.
This is really driving me buggy, any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
I currently have an HP 1300 Laserjet on the network, non-wireless, and it works great with all computers via the router.
I have a 2nd tower currently having a mother board repaired, I would bet that it will work when I get it back.

    Thanks for your comments.
I tried a new Ethernet cable hard wired between the printer and the router. Since the computer is wired via an Ethernet cable to the router and the router is wired directly to the printer, one would think the computer would see the printer but it won't.
I also tried a brand new 10 foot USB cable between the computer and the printer, it failed and it wouldn't install the software either.
I am adding a 2nd hard drive next week and going dual boot, that should work on the new drive at least.
An associate, who is the best networking guy in town,  just left my house after trying for 2 hours to find a cure or the problem, he finally gave up. Like me, he thinks it may be something in the registry.

  • Really frustrating - Macbook not recognizing built-in ethernet cable

I am a college student who purchased the macbook one year ago
My macbook is not recognizing the ethernet cable plugged into it.
I thought it was the ethernet cable itself but I tested my roommate's cable and it wasn't also recognized (his computer's internet works fine)
This is frustrating because I am relying on the college wireless and the signal is flaky at best from my dorm
I am guessing that either some harddrive or software is messed up
    Anyone can help me?
Do I have to go to the apple store? My warranty is expired and a very busy semester is about to start so I don't want to send it in for a long time

Have you used the MacBook in multiple locations in the dorm (on the same subnet)? If you connect through a mini-hub or -switch (rather than plugging directly into the Ethernet port provided by the school), the hub or switch may be holding on to the MacBook's MAC address even when the MacBook is disconnected. When you then plug in in another room, the school's networking equipment may think that the same MAC address (the same computer) is connected on two ports at once -- which just doesn't work. You may get an IP address, but be unable to do anything; or you may get a 169.x.x.x IP address. The school's networking folks can look at the network infrastructure equipment -- the big switches in the wiring closets -- to see if the MAC address is registered on multiple ports.
The best solution is to replace those bad min-hubs or mini-switches -- they shouldn't hang onto MAC addresses for computer that are no longer connected. But if that's not an option (or just to test the theory), unplug (power off) every hub or switch you have plugged into, and see if you can get online after powering them up again. You would have to power cycle the hub or switch every time you use one.
Another test is to try to connect somewhere else on campus, on a different subnet. If it also doesn't work on another subnet, the solution described above does not apply. There are other potential culprits, such as the subnet running out of IP addresses, rogue routers installed by other students, and needing to register for the school's network, misconfigured network settings, and of course, defective hardware. You might try starting up from the MacOS Installer disc and running the Network Utility to rule out misconfigured network settings.
