If you haven't optimized your catalog under 4.1, do so

Here's why:  http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom_optimize_catalog_feature_s hould_be_extended_to_all_database_files
This helped IMMENSELY in getting the grid up when I change sources.

Since I rarely - if ever - backup the catalog, I hadn't optimized in a long time.  I had never found that it improved anything much, until now.
Is that because your catalog is backed up some other way, or because you like living dangerously
Both, and neither.
I don't really need the catalogs as I can always just re-import.  I don't use any LR features that aren't stored in the XMP data.
Backing up has not proven to be useful to me.  When I used to do it, I had catalogs go corrupt occasionally, and all my backups proved to either lose me too much work or also have unseen corruption.
I do backup my current catalog to backup drives and another machine so if something were to happen that shows up immediately, I'd have a backup.  If, as has happened before the corruption doesn't show up for a while (sometimes a long while), having backups that go back several months to find ones without corruption is just a huge waste of time.

  • You haven't recognized your account - but I did!

Every time I want to buy an app or update them in the App Store or under iTunes, I get the failure message, that I haven't recognized my account (in German: "Sie haben Ihren Account nicht bestätigt.") But I did! If I tap on "OK", a website opens in which I see, that my account is already recognized. This game I could play a 1000 times.
What should I do now? Any solutions? I wrote to the Apple support a few days ago but I never got an answer.
Would be great to solve this annoyingly problem.

Finally I have found a solution for my problem - with help of the AppleCare support by phone.
I don't know why, but my Apple ID e-mail was build two times (under Apple ID primary e-mail address AND under alternative e-mail address). Must be a mistake of me. If you have this problem, delete the same e-mail in the alternative addresses in the Apple ID system --> https://appleid.apple.com/
Then send the e-mail to recognize your Apple ID again, recognize it - then it's done!

  • Haven't received your e-book settlement? Try this.

For those who have not received the e-mail from E-Book AG Settlement Administrator, that were sent out on March 25-26, here is something to check.
The e-mail I have associated with my iBook (iTunes) account has a "Moderate" spam blocker on it.
My son called and asked if I had received my credit, as he had. He advised he found it in his "Known spam" file. This is even though he doesn't have a spam block activated.
I checked my account and it was not in the spam folder, why it should have been is beyond me. For the heck of it I checked the "Known spam" folder. There it was, received on 26th. Thank goodness I didn't have the account set to automatically delete known spam, or it would have been gone. If I hadn't have checked it would have been purged automatically in 15 days.
There is no logical reason for this e-mail to have been considered as "Known spam", but there it was.
I use earthlink as my provider, my son uses another provider, but in both instances the authorization e-mail was in the "Known spam" folder.
If you haven't received yours yet, go online to your server and check the "Known spam" folder.
Possibly Apple wanted to comply with notifying those affected in the case, but was hoping many wouldn't find the authorization for rebate in time. Something to consider.

If you go back to the Apple Store, you can verify that your order is in their system.

  • Do you have non-IT services in your catalog?

Several newScale customers have recently asked us if there are any newScale customers who have non-IT services in their service catalog. Some of the categories in which folks have expressed an interest are:
    Travel
    Legal
    Finance
    Procurement
    HR
If your catalog includes these types of services, please reply to this article with whatever level of detail you can provide. Thanks!

    Hi,
We are currently using RC for the following:
Travel – to manage approvals, an auto close task then sends the requested itinerary to our travel providers for booking
Plant – currently in first iteration of configuration for plant/asset services, including plant mobilisation, plant/asset requests, plant hire, plant damage notification
HR – starting configuration for onboarding services around employee termination & transfer, new employee setup
Facilities – simple things like reporting facility issues, requesting swipe cards, ID cards etc.
Procurement – we already have an electronic system, but we’re leveraging RC to manage authorities for requesting the right to approve items, plus we’re integrating with the procurement system to lookup authority matrix for authorising req’s in requestcentre
We’re a fairly new install, but we’ll be targeting any process in the company that currently uses a paper trail to manage approvals.
    Thanks, Meghan

  • Can you use lightroom mobile to share your catalog on another computer?

Can you use lightroom mobile to share your catalog on another computer?

What you can do is use Lightroom Web via your browser on the other computer. You go into your browser and log into your Adobe account at https://lightroom.adobe.com/. You can then:
use the P, U, X keyboard shortcuts to add pick flags
use numbers 0-5 to add ratings
    remove photos from collections
let others see a collection by making it public, sharing to FB etc, giving them the Adobe URL
add new originals to LrMobile by dragging them from the other computer's folders and dropping them in the browser - the newly uploaded file will be automatically added to your main catalogue. Try this, it's got lots of potential uses.

  • Lightroom 5 can't import to a FIXED drive called A: or B: even if that's where your catalog is

This what I consider a bug for lightroom 5.  It simply does not allow you to import to a fixed hard drive called A: or B: even if that is where the catalog was opened from and where all your other photos are stored.
Yes I know why... A: and B: used to be used for floppy drives back in the stone ages... however windows has allowed you to assign them to hard drives for decades now, and as time goes on,  you are going to be seeing a lot of computer users who have in fact never heard of a floppy drive and have never even seen a floppy disk.. it's just something they heard about in history class.. if they weren't sleeping.
You will be getting more and more technical support issues when the following scenario happens...
I was running out of room for my data, so I went out and bought me a nice new huge drive... Installed the drive per the instructions and went to 'disk management' to add an additional drive to my system..   It eventually asked me for a drive letter, and A: was at the TOP of this list, so I used that...   then formatted the drive and all was great.. windows reports a fixed drive called A: with a ton of free space... so I moved all my lightroom data to A: and opened the catalog from A: and it started lightroom just fine.. and all my photos are there and this is great!    You can do everything with the hard drive being A: or B:  so I'm done messing with it... well a few weeks or months go by, and I've long forgot about the install process and now I have 13 other applications using my A: drive  and I finally have a break in my busy schedule so I go out and shoot some photos.. I get back, install my memory card in my computer and prepare to import my files to the hard drive where my catalog is...... but I CAN'T!!! A: and B: do NOT EVER show up in the lightroom list of drives... and WHY NOT??? I can't understand why lightroom can't import to something my operating system is reporting as a FIXED drive.     Now I have all this stuff on my huge drive called A: or B: and it's going to be a huge task to re-assign that drive to another letter because all these other applications will be looking for their stuff on A: or B:  Ugh
Ok, so Adobe is trying to save us from ourselves and not allow us to try to import to a tiny disk that could not even hold one of our photos... uh... WHY?  Just put A: and B: in the list if the operating system is reporting them and if someone DOES have a floppy drive, called A: or B: and they try to import something to it.... they will just get an error saying it won't fit... problem solved!    What is REALLY ironic is that lightroom WON'T EVEN RUN ON ANY MACHINE WITH A FLOPPY DRIVE IN IT!!!!    You could put a USB floppy drive on your windows 7 or 8 machine... but when you do that... it's NOT necessarily A: or B:... you can make it whatever you want... leaving out A: and B: doesn't help ANYONE at all.
Now, assume this user is in their early 20's... they have never ever seen a floppy disk, and could not buy one if they wanted to...  which they don't... they just can't understand why this is happening.. why is my huge drive NOT in the list??? why is it not there?  I don't understand this.
It should be noted that this also happens if A: or B: is a network drive as well.    Floppies have been obsolete for a long time, and in fact you haven't been able to buy a new computer with a floppy drive since 2005, and they were completely useless back then..  and B: drive has been useless even longer!
So, what has happened here... is leaving out A: and B: has just been carried over from decades ago when it was probably a good idea... and no one has even looked at changing it.   People do have problems with this though, but it won't be fixed until someone says something... So I'm saying something.  fact:    A: and B: are NOT reserved for floppy drives anymore..  they have not been for a very long time  fact:    No one will ever plug in a floppy drive ever again.
fact:   Windows has allowed network drive and fixed hard drives to be A: or B: for decades
fact:   You SHOULD be checking the operating system to see if a drive is fixed or removable and what it's capacity is... not making assumptions about the drive configuration
fact:   As time goes on the the more and more people who have never heard of a floppy disk increases, this WILL become more and more of an issue.
fact:   There is no reason to NOT be using A: or B: for network or fixed hard drives... and our software should allow us to do so.
fact:  I want my 4TB drive to be B:!   but I have to settle for it being WAY down at T: because I've used all the letters down to S: already... heck my usb 3.0 card reader alone takes up 4 drive letters.. and I'm used to them where they are now.   I also want my RAID box to be a network A: drive..  putting it right there at the top of the list!
I'm settling for other letters, at the moment.. I actually moved my nearly useless DVD burner down the list.. do you all realize even DVD's are becoming obsolete???  why burn a measly 5GB on a DVD that is so fragile and easily scratched... when you can just write files on a 128GB flash drive?  (yes there are even 512GB flash drives available now) It's only a matter of time before NO one will have ever heard of or seen a CD, or DVD disc either!

Probably the best place is here http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/products/photoshop_family_photoshop_lightro om . Not sure if it's taking new registrations though.
I'm a little susrpised that it's not possible, and I agree it's a bit silly in 2013, but my guess is it's one of those things that won't change for a while. They've probably played safe, and to be frank, whenever you break such old rules (eg 32 characters, case-sensitive filenames, punctuation in filenames etc) it's only a matter of time before you get bitten by something. I just wouldn't expect Adobe to spend much time on it - it's not as if they've nothing else to work on.

  • Act now if you want to keep your email address

Have followed all the instructions in the email to keep my talk21 account. Supposed to get an email saying they have my request and if not do it again. Have done it 2 times no and no confirmation. Anyone else got a confirmation that bt have your request to keep a talk21 address? Just worried as I use this account for everything so can't afford for it to be got rid of

Going by some of the other posts, BT are snowed under with this mess of their own making and are unable to cope with the demand. It may be that you will get an email conformation once the request has been actioned. If you haven't heard anything by tomorrow I would try again and if that fails then it loks like you will have to endure the call centre  0800 111 4567

  • How do you manage RequestCenter in your organization?

How do you manage RequestCenter in your organization?
We are involved in discussions/debate as to where RequestCenter/Request Management falls in the organization.
Some feel that building services in RC constitutes development and thus should fall under the companies development organization and be managed as such (e.g. Code Management, Version Control, Code Migration Policies, Separation of Duties etc.). Others feel it is not development and fits in the engineering/operations side of the house and managed accordingly.
We are currently managing RC/Request Management in our engineering/operations side of the house. Most of the team do not have “hard core” development backgrounds and are doing quite well with the product, although a little development knowledge does help.
From the newScale website – “Active Form Components: For an actionable Service Catalog with streamlined request fulfillment, end users must be able to easily request services using an intuitive and interactive online form. With the new active form components feature, service designers can quickly create and update complex interactive form elements that can be re-used throughout the catalog without any programming required.”
I would be interested to know how your company is managing your installation of RC in your organization.

I see RC as falling in the operations side of the organization, and that's how we'll likely develop support for the service.  We're new to implementing the product, so I can't give any advice on past experience, just my vision for the product and how we might develop and roll services out to the organization.

  • TS1538 Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows.

Hi, I have the problem which iTunes cannot detect my iPhone 4s. I tried the steps you have provided in your troubleshooting, but it won't work for me because the Apple Mobile Devilce is perfectly installed on my windows. However, the driver "Microsoft teredo Tunneling adapter" has a yellow exclamation mark, which i believe means it's not installed correctly or something is wrong with it. This driver is under the Network Adapters (Please see picture below).
This is what happens when I connect my iPhone 4s to my laptop (Windows 7 Starter 32-bit)
    1. The phone charges it's battery
    2. I can open it in My Computer and import/export media files.
    In iTunes
    3. It start to sync until step 3 then stops.
    4. The iPhone option with an arrow appears beside the iTunes Store, but when the arrow is clicked it disappears.
I hope you can provide me a solution for this problem.
    Thanks,
    Ralph

    Hi ralphagir,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
For your iTunes issue with it not recognizing your iPhone, I would go ahead and suggest deleting iTunes and all of its components from your Windows computer and installing fresh.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
As far as the arrow button that you click and the iPhone disappears, it sounds like you may be clicking on the eject button. Please take a look at the following article for information on the eject button in iTunes.

  • What do you do if all your music disappears into the Other folder......dreaded orange bar!

Hope this will help someone as there is clearly not much help from Apple nor this forum.
I am on vacation away from my home computer where my iTunes is.  I turned on my iPod and scrolled down to Music and it showed "No Music."  Went to "About" and saw that there were only 9GB of free space, so I felt for sure it was there because that's right at what I had when I last synced it, which was a couple days ago and it finished syncing with no problems.  Went to the next "About" screen where you can see how much Audio, Video etc. etc. you have and it showed 0 Audio and The "Other" category had all the data in it.  What happened to my music, and can I get it back on vacation without my iTunes on my computer at home?  I tried the holding down of the Select middle button and the Menu button until the Apple logo appeared but that did not restore any Audio.  Hope someone can help me out here.....Thanks
Re: Ipod Classic 160GB having issues, need help please?
Oct 25, 2011 5:06 AM (in response to Fishead)
Solved my issue and thought I might do someone a favor by posting the answer.  If you wind up with NO MUSIC and find all your audio files have been synced into the OTHER folder on your iPod such as what happened to me, AND if you happen to be unlucky enough not to have access to your computer where your iTunes program would allow you to re-sync your iPod, here's what worked for me in a Windows7 OS.
1.You will have to find a computer that has enough storage to hold the amount of information stored on your iPod.  In my case, 139GB!!!  Download iTunes if it is not already on the system, or if it is, update to the latest software.
    2.  Plug your iPod into one of the USB ports.
    3.  Open iTunes if it does not open itself.
    4.  Select your iPod from the menu on the left and you should get a message that iTunes cannot read the iPod. Simply close that box.  If you get a message that syncing your iPod will erase all content then decline the sync.
    5.  Open Computer and you should see your iPod as an external hard drive.
    6.  Open it and you will see some folders and a few files.  The folders will likely look like they are a washed-out yellow instead of a deep yellow like you're accustomed to seeing.  That threw me initially because as I was looking for the folder with @ 139GB, it was not there.  Right click each folder, go to Properties and check the "Show hidden files" in the View menu.  After that, the folders will appear dark yellow and as you hover over each one, you will see one that will have the full amount of data that was on your iPod before the mess started. Open that folder and you will see a bunch of other folders with strange names, like F00, F01 etc. etc. Do the Edit, Select All, right click and in Properties, View menu, check the Show Hidden Files again.  All the folders that were that light yellow color will now turn deep yellow.  Be sure to select show hidden files not only for the folder but all sub folders and files box that will come up....forgot to mention that earlier.  Now all your folders and the files in them will be readable by iTunes.
    7.  The folders will all still be selected.  If not, select them and then do either a copy/paste into iTunes Music Library or drag them over into that pane.  The process will begin and likely take quite a while.  In my case, several hours.  When it is done, you will see all your music in iTunes along with the album art if you had any.
    8.  Now you will need to sync your iPod to that library, but before you do, you will need to Restore it.  Simply select it from the left menu and click on the Restore iPod option.  That will only take a few minutes and it will wipe your iPod clean.  Before you do that, it is a good idea to MAKE SURE YOUR MUSIC IS ALL THERE!!!  I also went to about a half dozen of the albums and tried playing a few songs just to be double sure.  Proceed with the Restore, and when it is complete change the iPod name that will be in the small box on the same page as the Restore option and likely be something like"karens iPod" (whoever the computer belongs to will be the name there) to exactly what your iPod is called on your iTunes on your computer that it was originally synced to.  I found that before I did this, it would not sync.
    9.  When you hit Sync, be patient because it took a minute or so before it actually began to sync.  Then, it will be another few hours if you have as much music as I did for the sync to complete and depending on the speed of the computer you're using.
That's how I got all my music back and I am now a happy camper/listener again.,
I called Apple support and they were absolutely no help.  Just told me I would have to re-sync to my iTunes even though I kept telling them that was 1,650 miles away at my house and not going to be possible.  I even asked if the above process would work and they said they didn't know but "You could try it....." :-(  At that time, I didn't have access to a computer with enough hard disc space on it yet so I called the Apple store in Louisville, KY which was 65 miles from where I was hoping that they might be able to help.  After 2 calls and getting hung up in the same loop of menus that left me on hold for over 20 minutes long distance, I gave up and concluded that Apple and Support are two mutually exclusive terms and have no relationship to one another. This has been quite a nightmare, and if anything good has come of it aside from having my music back, it might be the learning process but I really feel that is a rather small reward for the time spent!
Not likely to be an Apple fan when considering my next purchase of home computer, laptop, nor the phone I am preparing to buy.
    Hope this has helped someone.

I never throw anything away up to a point when it has become silly and then I have a cull. (This applies to the loft, the garage and the hard disk)
I always have (at least) two backups to external drives and by the end of a project also have a full backup to DVD.
I am a hobby photographer, so this isn't necessarily a good professional workflow!
I store work in progress within a folder structure that identifies just what it is, final folder being date stamped for the start date (eg D:\My Pictures\Photgraph Album Master\Family\Bob\20100715 Farnborough airshow)
Photographs of value are then kept within the folder with a date stamp and version number if they change within a day (eg 20100823 Alexander in cockpit 2).
Photographs I haven't touched remain with their camera-specified name.
Lightroom, which I use, doesn't know about external drives or DVD backups. (Maybe it should, but it would become confusing)

  • HT204406 How Do You Add Songs To Your Playlists With Match?

I bought a subscription to iTunes Match.  I'm using iTunes 10.6.3.25 on a PC with a Windows 7 OS. When I attempt to drag a track from my music collection to an existing Playlist, a window containing the following warning appears on my screen:
"iCloud playlists can only contain songs from your iCloud music library.
If you continue, this (name of Playlist) will be removed from iCloud and will be available on this computer."
I can click onto my choice of one of the two boxes below the message.  One says Remove Playlist & Continue.  The other says Cancel.
I'd like to be able to add songs to my Playlists at any time and set Match so that it backs up the Playlist.  How can I do this and avoid the above message that I'm receiving from Apple?

I was having this very same issue and by reading through the posts I learned to update iTunes Match. I subscribed to iTunes Match a while back but for some reason, maybe through an iTunes update, iTunes Match was switched off. I turned it on and it updated. After that I was able to add songs to Playlists. Hope this helps, if you haven't already figured it out. Cheers.
