• ITunes to version 10.6 updated and now crashing upon launching

I updated my iTunes to version 10.6 yesterday and now it's crashing everytime I try to launch it within seconds of opening it. An error message pops up and says Windows needs to close the program due to an unexpected error. I've tried repairing the file, uninstalling and reinstalling three times now and nothing is working.
What's going on? I've read about this on other forums so I know I'm not the only person with the issue, but no one seems to have a resolution yet. How do I fix this?

What happens when you try to sync?
Is this the problem:

Launched software update on MacBook v. 10.5.8 during restart, update stalled now nothing will launch-quits unexpectedly. Help!

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Some general advice on updating Leopard:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
Now proceed as follows:
4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious! In fact a second restart can be recommended.
9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a week or two while you regularly check their websites for updates.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up.  If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for  problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
/Library/InputManagers
~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

• Recently updated to itunes 10.6.1, but during update it says itunes does not have a valid signature and update fails ,now older version is not able to connect to itunes store

Recently updated to itunes 10.6.1, but during update it says itunes does not have a valid signature and update fails ,now older version is not able to connect to itunes store error 306. I am using windows 7.

(Apologies for butting in, wha.)
now older version is not able to connect to itunes store error 306. I am using windows 7.
If you still get the 306 after updating to 10.6.1.7, perhaps try the following user tip:
iTunes for Windows 9.0.x: Error 306

• I had a itune update fail, now I get an error message (windows error 2). what do I need to do?

I had an itune update fail. now I get an error message. "windows error 2". I can not open itunes!

With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

• Tryed to update my iphone4s, the update fail, now itunes can not see my phone

tried to update my iphone4s, the update fail, now iTunes can not see my phone

Hi kjpservices,
So it sounds as if your iPhone does not appear in iTune after a failed update to iOS, is that right? In order to get it back into iTunes you will want to use one of these articles, depending on what kind of computer you have -
For a Windows PC, use this -
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
If you are using a Mac, use this -
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
Once you get ths iPhone back into iTunes, try the update again. If it fails, post back and we can continue troubleshooting from there.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Best,

• Adobe illustrator updated now crashing on launch

I updated CC illustrator last night  7th Oct 2014, and this morning it crashes every time I launch it, all other CC apps work, is anyone else having this issue?

Since I posted the above I have installed Suitcase Fusion 6. Illustrator continued to crash at every launch.
I have tried opening with the Shift Option Command keys held down to rest the preferences. No change. I uninstalled Suitcase Fusion, removed all the plugins and tried again several times. Illustrator continues to crash at launch. I have run maintenance apps (Clean my Mac and Mac Keeper), I have also rebuilt my permissions in Disk Utility. No change. I downloaded and installed FontExplorer Pro. No change. I uninstalled Illustrator and redownloaded it. Despite deleting the preferences when I uninstalled Illustrator I now get a window asking me do I want to reopen windows that were open when Illustrator crashed. THERE WERE NO OPEN WINDOWS. When I dismiss this window (i have tried both choices: restore and not) Illustrator crashes.
I have now, today, between 9am and 11:26am AEDST have unsuccessfully tried to open Illustrator 18 times. It is still not open. I can't finish an urgent client project.
Is anyone at Adobe listening??

• Adobe Illustrator update fails . . . now what?

I have received updates regularly for the other Adobe software without issue.  However, for over a month, Illustrator's update fails.  The error message is:
"Update Failed
Unable to extract the downloaded files.  Press Retry to download again.
(U44M1l210)"
Retry, fails, retry, fails, retry fails, ad infinitum.
Adobe has a problem with this update for whatever reason and needs to fix it.

• Photoshop and Illustrator updates fail using Adobe Application Manager, why and what can I do?

In the Adobe Application Manager, it says there are updates for both Photoshop and Illustrator. When I click to update, they both downloaded and attempted to install and in the middle of this process, Application Manager shows that the updates fail. After this, upon restart of my Mac–running Lion–Illustrator shows that it's up to date in the Application Manager and Photoshop shows an update is available. Upon trying to re-update Photoshop again, the update fails again and again.
I have updated before a few days ago with no problem, so I don't understand why the updates are failing and why after doing so, now Illustrator shows that it is up to date and Photoshop does not.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, does anyone know why and what I can do about it?
Thank you.

Hi Richei Creative,
These would be my suggestions:
Create a new user account with administrative rights, log out of your current account and into that one, launch Adobe Application Manager and attempt the Photoshop update again.
Instructions if you need them  - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11468
If this fails, uninstall Photoshop (Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers) and reinstall Photoshop then from Adobe Application Manager the attempt the Photoshop update again, also from the newly created user account.
Hope these help,
-Dave

• Illustrator CS6.5 (Mac) crashes at launch

I ran the Illustrator update today and now Illustrator won't open. I thought it might be a font issue and I deactivated all except the system fonts and cleared the font cache. I reset the Illustrator preferences. I don't know what else to do. If anyone can help I would very grateful.

Hi,
Please try reinstalling AI CS6 and then applying the patch. As evident from the logs, you seems to be still on 16.0.0 (i.e patch do not get applied).
Could you please also confirm whether you have any third party cleaner programs running on your machine?
Please let me know if you have any concerns/doubts.
Thanks and Regards,

• 10.4.7 Update Failed, Now Software Update Broken

I tried to update from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, but the update failed. I then tried the update via the package that was downloaded. No luck. Now, when I try to launch Software Update, it dies.

Hello Chad:
You do need to run repair disk from your software install DVD (you cannot repair a boot drive from the same drive). If that fails to repair errors, you have a couple of options.
Alsoft's DiskWarrior is the "gold standard" of directory repair (pricey at about $90, but worth it).
If you used a program like SuperDuper to create a bootable clone on your external HD, you simply need to restore it. If you do not have a bootable clone, you really cannot restore from the external HD.
If you do have your data backed up in some fashion (but not a bootable clone), I would suggest you run an archive and install (see above). A&I will install a fresh copy of OS X (you would have to update it, of course) and also preserves your own programs, files, and settings.

• After worling for a while program now crashes on launch

I have been tooling around the Encore interface for a couple of weeks. Now when I launch the app, it crashes on launch, I am on a mac pro running
10.4.10 with 5GB ram, All the other CS3 titles work fine. Now that I'm learning to use Encore, I wish it would work, too. I've tried rebooting a million times as well as updating the software. I don't believe I've added any new software or hardware. Help!

It could be because the run-time didn't get installed properly. You can try comparing windows\system32\cvirte.dll and the contents of the windows\system32\cvirte folder between your development computer and your target computer to make sure that they are the same (keep in mind that the paths are different in your development computer: windows\syswow64\cvirte.dll and windows\syswow64\cvirte).
Also, make sure that you are able to run a release-build version of your program in your development computer to confirm that this is a distribution problem and not just a release vs. debug problem.
Make sure that you are building and deploying a 32-bit version of your program, not a 64-bit.
Finally, you can always remote debug your program to see if you can narrow down where the crash is happening. Here are some instructions on how to do that (the instructions are for CVI 9.0, which is the oldest version for which I could find documentation online, but it should work the same way in 8.5).

• 2.1 update failed, now Ipod won't work

So I foolishly paid the 10 bucks to download the new 2.1 update for my ipod touch, and at the end I got an error saying the update failed. So, I have tried to restore, and it gets through the whole process, then gets stuck on "veryfing ipod software...". I'm pretty sure something is wrong because the ipod turns off. Now I can't use my ipod at all. What can I do if I can't get it to restore? THe nearest Apple store is an 8 hour drive?

Are you trying to upgrade to 2.0 in your new user account as well? If not, try that, so iTunes downloads a new copy of that software installer, just in case the one downloaded on your normal user account is somehow damaged or unusable.
If the Apple store isn't convenient, you can call Apple or go online to set up mail in service. They basically send you a box to send your iPod back to them, and then send a replacement out.

• Illustrator updates fail

I have CS3 Design Premium installed on my computer that is running Windows XP Professional (SP2). I have cable Internet service and am always connected so I am notified if updates are available. The problem is that Illustator is the only application that is unable to install updates. The version that I currently have installed is 13.0.0. I have been notified that 13.0.1 is available, but the installation never works. I get a pop-up menu with "Installation Incomplete" in the title bar. In the box in the pop-up window is the message: Updater did not Worked" (bad grammar). And beneath the box is another note that says: Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.1 Update failed to install.
I have tried to uninstall CS3 from the Control Panel, but nothing happens other than the menu item is mementarily highlighted for about 3 seconds. I also have thied to do a repair from the installation disk, but it begins the uninstall process and then just quits as if nothing ever happened.
Several weeks ago, I performed a reinstallation when CS3 applications were frequently crashing and that fixed the crashing problem. But since then, Illustrator is not able to be updated.

Try disabling your virus protection software before doing the update.
Virus Scanners
If you are using a virus protection program such as Norton or MacAfee there should be a link to them through your Start menu under All programs. Click the link to open the "Control Center". This may be called other names such as "Security Center" or similar names.
Click the link to access your virus scanner configuration. In that area you should see a link to "disable" or "temporarily disable" virus scanning. Please click that link. If it is not a temporarily disabled, be sure to re-enable it when you are done.
You should then be able to proceed to complete the download and installation process.
If your virus scanner is not similar to the above, please consult the software's documentation on how to disable it temporarily.
If you have a bundled security program like Norton Securities you may need to disable the whole program to get the download to complete.
