IMovie Timing Issues

I recently received a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro and was upgraded to iMovie '11. Since then, the clip duration will not change; I am able to change the transition duration. Also, I am unable to upload videos to any event or create a new event. Anyone have a quick fix as I need to finish something for tomorrow.

This may or may not help, but try deleting iMovie's preference file. If open, close iMovie then in Finder navigate to the file named "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist" in your User (Home) folder Library/Preferences. Drag this file to the Trash. When next opened iMovie will create a fresh file with the default settings. You may need to change some settings to suit your own preference. To do this, in iMovie's Menu go to iMovie>Preferences and make appropriate changes in each of the tabs.
Deleting the preference file can often fix problems with iMovie. The file can become corrupted in some circumstances, such as when iMovie quits unexpectedly.

I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.

How to fix the Timing issue in Discoverer reports

Hi,
While running the discoverer report in Discoverer plus is taking more than 1 hour to complete( Gen.time + Extract to excel)
where as the same report completes quickly in discoverer desktop.

Back to my question...
I tried removing the columnStretching although my requirement really requires this but no effect really happens even if I remove this.
Based on my investigation on the generated HTML, I notice the following items:
1. A table is being wrapped in a div that is being set at a fixed height.
2. On first load, if your autoheight rows is set to 6, the framework is setting a height of 96px to the div. This height would almost cut the last row of the table.
3. If you try to refresh the page or try to re-PPR the component, the framework resets it to 102px which causes the last row to be fully displayed.
My only concern is that IE is perfectly displaying this while Chrome and FF are having problem.
Based on my understanding, the framework is messing up the height only on first load. Not sure but this is how I see it. I am really not confident also on my findings
and I would most likely hear other's comment.

VISA Read timing issues

I am using an RS232 to control an older model Power Supply (OXFORD PS 120-10).
I have successfully written several VI's that all work, the only problem is that VISA Read takes WAY too long. I'm talking 10's of seconds to refresh. I need it have it refreshing in milliseconds or at least tens of seconds for the measurements we need. All of the VI's I have written have the same timing issue.
Attached is the most basic Serial Read/Write VI. Is there any way to improve the Read rate? Or might this just be an instrumentation issue. The strange thing is the Write commands work almost instantaneously (I can seem them on the instruments display).
Please help if you can, I've only been working with LabVIEW for a few weeks and am very must still in the learning process.

Do you have the communications protocol for the power supply? If you do not have everything right, you will have problems with communications.
Tens of seconds is a clue that you may be getting timeout errors because the default timeout is 10 seconds. Try placing an inidicator on the error out wire inside the loop (after Read) to see if an error occurs on any iteration. The way you have the VI set up you only see the error on the last iteration of the loop.
You are writing a carriage return to the instrument. If it requires that, it almost certainly sends a carriage return with the response. (This is why I asked about the protocol). If the instrument sends a carriage return (or other termination character), then you should Enable Termination Character on the Configuration VI and set the termination character to the correct value. The default is line feed (hex A or decimal 10). A carriage return is hex D or decimal 13. You must wire the numeric value to the termination character input for any value other than the default. Then change the byte count value (at the Read input) to a number larger than the longest message the instrument will ever send, perhaps 100 or 500. The Read will end as soon as the termination character is received, regardless of the number of characters.
I suspect that this is the problem - the instrument sends fewer than 10 characters in most messages but does send a termination character.

Imovie storage issues

Alright, I'm undertaking a HUGE imovie project. I've got 37 or so 2-hour Hi-8 tapes from my camera. I've already got 10 or so on my computer in imovie, formatted. After I edit them in imovie, I export them to idvd to burn them onto dvd's. Now, I"ve noticed that the imovie files are around 25 gig a file. (25G for 2 hours or so of movie - give or take a few minutes)
Is there a way I can compress or store these files so I don't have to buy an external HD?
Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Both DVD's and especially CD's are a terrible choice to backup movie files because they are too slow and too small...What you do't want as well is to rely on the DVD as an archive - it is compressed MPEG-2 and is lossy and hard to re-edit. $5 DV tapes are a great digital format to save forever.
There's different points of view about these issues, so I'll add a few cents.
1. We don't think we can assume tapes will "last forever" any more than any other storage medium. (If pressed, I think I'd put my money on DVDs outlasting tapes, but it's just a guess.)
2. In ten to twenty years, I suspect we will still have drives available that can play DVDs but not camcorders that can play tapes. That may make it impossible to exercise tapes, re-record them, or capture them to a computer.
3. DVDs are cheap and easy to use. At less than 50 cents per disk for 4+GB, they are actually cheaper than tapes. And backup software like Retrospect makes archiving easy too. You just insert the disks when asked.
When archiving data files, I like that there are no iMovie export issues. (I never entirely trust an export to tape until I play it from start to finish.)
4. There's nothing inherently lossy about DVDs. Yes, an MPEG-2 DVDs created by iDVD is compressed so it's lossy, but a backup of an iMovie HD project as data files to a DVD suffers no loss of quality.
5. I tend to use multiple backup media. Drives, tapes, MPEG-2 DVDs and data file DVDs. Multiple copies of each, actually. But I'm a belt and suspenders kind of guy. I get uncomfortable putting all my backups in one basket.
Unfortunately, there is no one ideal archive solution. No medium lasts forever, no media hardware lasts forever, and there's no guarantee the software we use to create/retrieve an archive -- or for that matter play the iMovie project or the QuickTime movie -- will run in Mac OS XXV.
Most likely our data storage media will change dramatically in twenty years. Soon all our iMovie projects will probably fit on the head of a pin. Hopefully the archive solution we adopt today won't cause us to jab our fingers with the pin.

Questions about phase difference (possible timing issue) RC circuit

Below is the program I am using to measure the phase difference in an RC circuit. Simply put I generate a 2kHz sine wave in LabView and send it to the circuit using an Analog output. Then I measure the output sine wave using an analog output.I also measure this using n oscilliscope. I cna clearly measure the phase difference with the oscilliscope and know it to be approximately 1.4 radians.
Issues with the program:
Different phase difference measured each time the program is run for the circuit. It is also never correct.
Possible causes:
You will notice by looking at the vi I measure the phase from the signal generator. Should I be using a second analog input to measure the sine wave as it is outputted at the start of the circuit?
I mainly think that it is a timing issue. While the phase difference is constant each time the program it varies each on run. So the time each tone measurement begins its first measurement seems to be different each time and causes this different phase reading.
The card I am using is a PCI 6221, is there a timing issue related from switching to input and output acquistion or are they seperate.
Is there anyway to ensure that both tone measurements are measuring phase at the same point in (actual) time?
I would really appreciate any advice or alterations on the program anyone could offer me (I am a college student and LabVIEW is not on our curriculum so I have no support, yet I am using it for my project (D'oh!))

I would certainly acquire two signals. Feed the analog output right back into an analog input and then your filtered signals in another.
Initially, I would feed the analog output into both analog inputs and measure the phase delay due to the multiplexed A/D on the card. Once you have that measurement, you can feed in the filtered signal and then measure the phase difference of that signal.

Unity Express voice mail timing issue.

Hi,
I have installed one uc520 at one of our customer. i configured voice mail but there is one issue with the voice mail timing. Suppose i retrive the voice mail the voice mail prompt is giving the wrong time. Suppose I send a voice mail to a subscriber at 3pm, the voice mail prompt is saying 'message send at 4 pm'.
I checked both cme and cue clock settings and both are showing the correct time.
Can anybody help me on this issue

Are the calls to CUE getting dropped when you dial from an IP Phone at site 1 (callmanager) ?
How is the CME router setup in Callmanager ? Is it added as a regular H323 gateway or a H225 trunk ? Either ways, make sure the gateway registers with the correct IP that is used in Callmanager.
So if CME has a wan ip (a.a.a.a) and a lan ip (b.b.b.b), if you add b.b.b.b as the CME gateway's ip address in Callmanager, then you need to bind the H323 ip address as follows.
interface fa0/0
ip add b.b.b.b
h323-gateway voip bind srcaddr b.b.b.b
Most likely the CME gateway is sending calls to Callmanager using ip address a.a.a.a which is the wan ip, through which it has the default route to Callmanager.

I have created a project where I have a montage of photos and video clips edited together with music under. Some audio portions of the video files are being muted in some areas and those portions are being heard in another part of the project. This is not for all video clips only certain ones.
The project plays fine in the timeline, but when I render the project thru iTunes or Media Browser, this is when the project goes corrupt.
I tried detaching the Audio from the video clips and this somewhat worked, but the original problem still exists with certain audio still being heard where it's not supposed to be.

I have a fix - or rather, a workaround.
WARNING: It is lengthy, but still far better than starting a new project from scratch.
I had this same issue and none of my transitions/clips were at custom speeds, nor did I have anything else weird going on. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do within iMovie to fix this, at least there wasn't for me. iMovie is BY FAR the buggiest software I have ever used and if you haven't already spent hours slaving away on a project, you are so much better off using just about anything else to edit your video.
...But let's assume you have already spent many hours working on your project and you don't want to start all over. Well then, you have at least one option.
It's a pain in the neck, but it's infinitely better than restarting your project from scratch.
This will require:
A software called Soundflower (which is free) and some kind of audio editing software (I use Logic, but really any should work).
1.) You're going to need to export your video with the messed up audio. Typically if you're audio is messing up, you're video is at least usually working just fine (at least it always does for me).
2.) You're going to need to open that video in your audio software and import only the audio. If your software doesn't give you this option, then you're going to need to record the audio from your video using the audio software and Soundflower. You can find tutorials on how to do this, but it's honestly pretty straightforward once you start playing around with you Mac's audio I/O settings. Remember to have your computer's volume all the way up when doing this.
3.) Watch/listen to your video and make notes of where the audio errors occur. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND writing down times too, as they will be extremely helpful later.
4.) Now were going to rip some working audio from the iMovie project itself. Go back into your iMovie project and only play back audio while in the edit window for this step. Do NOT play your project back in full screen.
This part is key: if you try to play back your project from the beginning the audio will usually still mess up. So, what you're gonna have to do is go back on your edit window timeline right before these errors occur and play that specific clip back while recording this working audio with Soundflower and your audio software. Essentially we're only recording the parts of the audio where these errors occur, so try to do this in order if you can. Try to leave several seconds of audio in before the error - that way we can use it as reference when we construct our new audio track.
5.) Now in your audio software you should have your original error-filled audio track and the new clips that we just captured. This part can be painstaking if you're not familiar with audio editing softwares, but as you'll learn, it's really not that hard.
You're going to look at your original audio track and compare it to your new working audio clips. You should be able to notice where those new clips are supposed to go by looking at the identical (or close to identical) waveform shapes in your original audio track. The two should correspond with one another. If you don't understand what I mean right now, you will when you start playing around with the audio. This is why marking times is very important.
Take your new clips and split them up if you haven't already, that way you can drag them around and edit them separately from one another. Essentially your going to line these new clips up with original and then replace the original parts with new ones.
We need to get this as precise as possible, so start off by getting them as close as you can with your naked eye, and then use a zoom tool to zoom in as much as possible so that you can get them lined up PERFECTLY, or at least extremely close. In some softwares you can just drag these new clips on top of the old track, but most of the time you will need to actually cut out the old piece and replace it with the new one. In doing this, zoom in and make sure that you are NOT cutting out a bigger space than your new clip will fill - otherwise you will have small gaps in your audio.
VERY IMPORTANT: Also make sure that this new audio track starts at the EXACT SAME time as your original - otherwise your new audio will be out of sync.
I know this part can really suck if you're not used to audio editing, but at this point, there is little other choice.
6.) Once you are done with this, export your newly pieced together audio track.
7.) Now open iMovie and create a NEW project. Re-import the video that you exported earlier that has the messed up audio. This might take a while, so just be patient.
8.) Then right click the clip and select "Detach Audio". This will do just that - allowing you to edit the audio separately from the video. Now delete this audio.
9.) Now, import the new, perfect audio track that we just made and make sure that it starts at the start of the project. Make sure it's in sync and that everything works.
Now just export your new video with the working audio and you should be done. Since we have given iMovie the audio with no editing actually being done in iMovie, it does not have to generate its own audio now and you should have absolutely no errors now - unless there is some that you forgot to take out earlier.
YOU'RE FINALLY DONE!!!
I know this entire process *****, but if you're that far into your project, there is little else that you can do. Now you've learned your lesson:
DON'T USE IMOVIE EVER AGAIN.

IMovie transitions issue with retina mac?

Does anyone have an issue with adding transitions in a video in iMovie on the 13" RETINA macbook pro? I have imported a .mov file and I can't put transitions between the video. iMovie starts to do this weird thing where it shortens the video and displaces the video on the timeline. Has anyone else encounter that?

Timing Issue in BADI MSTO_PROCESS_ITEM PO

In ECC 6.0 some logic has been added to BADI MSTO_PROCESS_ITEM, method check. Two non rfc function modules have been used to update custom fields. MEPO_DOC_HEADER_PROCESS and MEPO_DOC_ITEM_PROCESS. Every once in awhile the custom fields are not updated. When we take the purchase order and go in change mode, it updates the fields correctly. When we go through debug, same thing updates correctly, and create also. it only happens sometimes. Could there be a timing update issue in the badi? Buffer issue? If yes, what are some solutions. Could we put a wait command in the badi?

IMovie 11 Issues

I use iMovie 11. I have a macbook pro 15 inch that I got over the summer.
Every weekend I edit a new video on iMovie 11. However, last weekend, I opened iMovie and the viewer was grey. The viewer is the video part of iMovie that plays back everything.
As well as that, if I go into my imported clips, and I go to a certain place and mouse over it (which the red bar goes with my mouse, but the grey viewer remains grey) and press the space bar OR the play button, it goes to the beginning of the imported material, but doesn't play.
I have been able to use Final Cut Pro X to edit, but I prefer iMovie. Please help!
I've tried to restart, shut down, quit all other applications, but have NOT processed thumbnails. Do I need to do this?
Please tell me how to fix this!

IMovie Viewer issues Post Snow Leopard install

Hi,
I just fired up iMovie (09) after upgrading OS to Snow Leopard (newer iMac bought 4 months ago). I no longer see the project video in the viewer. The "raw" movies in Event Library play fine, but when trying to play the movie in the project library, I only get audio. If viewing in full screen mode, all is well. If i go back and press space bar from project Library, only audio.
All worked fin prior to the snow leopard upgrade. Anybody know what is happening and how I can preview my movies from the project library again?

Yes, we've been having quite a few issues since the upgrade, too. Now correlation does not equal causation, so I can't say for sure that Snow Leopard is the problem. All I know it that all this stuff started happening afterword.

Imovie video issues

I have been experiencing issues with video delays when I import.
The issue is the video is not in sync with actual video (example if I say hello, iMovie will show that a few seconds later).
I checked my disc space and i still have over 20GB of space so I don't think thats the issue. This was working fine up until today.
Any suggestions on how I could fix this?
