Am I really though?
I have gtk-qt-engine running just fine without libbonoboui or kdelibs (which both pull in a ton of unnescessary depends), and I have icecat running just fine without libgnomeui. Both of which were built without those packages and without the need for --disable flags or otherwise pkgbuild modification except removing/replacing deps. If this is possible, why should they be required?
How about this from the gtk-qt-engine readme?
Prerequisites:
CMake 2.4
Qt 4.3 developement package
GTK developement package
I dont see any libgnomeui or kdelibs, no affiliation with any DE at all.
or how about this from the icecat readme?
The default configuration of IceCat uses the following libraries:
libpango libpangoxft libpangoft2 libfreetype libxft libgtk2 libx11
wheres libgnomeui? The configure script checks for it sure, but it doesnt require it, not for building or otherwise. Only gnome users might want this, but even then its not required. Its like an optbuilddep because its optional, but if you choose to use it it should be installed before you compile like a builddep. This could easily be covered in the optdep details (libgnomeui: for gnome integration, requires rebuilding the package)

i was talking only about icecat and firefox. if you use firefox, pacman will never fetch libgnomeui and after compiling icecat you do pacman -Rs $(pacman -Qdtq) will clean that crap too.

i18n package was splitted. Please, check your language package: icecat-${langpack}. Much better, I think.

The package xulrunner has been updated from 1.9.2.4 to 1.9.2.6 version and I can't install IceCat by the dependencies. What can I do?

@Ravenman, IceCat needs exactly its xulrunner version, but you can use IceCat with lastest xulrunner, though. It isn't recommended, just it works. I've been playing a bit and IceCat seems to be stable. Quick steps:
- pacman -Sd xulrunner
- Download lastest tarball and untar it.
- makepkg -d
- pacman -U icecat-3.6.4-1-${arch}.pkg.tar.xz
or just you can wait until Giuseppe release lastest version ;)

@Ravenman: Or you could download the older version of xulrunner from Arch Rollback Machine: http://arm.kh.nu/search/. Use pacman -U to install it. Then edit the IgnorePkg line in pacman.conf and add xulrunner, so it doesn't get upgraded, with system upgrades. That's what I do when I'm waiting for Icecat to get upgraded to the latest version. Usually Icecat upgrades right away or withing a couple days, but this time the GNU OS people seem to be taking a longer time.

1. remove xulrunner, icecat, and wireless_tools (assuming you didn't already remove wireless_tools when it asked you about it)
2. install icecat again but this time modify the pkgbuild (change the depends  xulrunner=1.9.2.4 to xulrunner=1.9.2.6)
(the package was failing to build because the icecat pkgbuild specifies a specific version of xulrunner and the maintainer never changed it when the new version of xulrunner came out.)

Ive just upgraded my late 2009 macbook, and things are not working properly. First of all, when I started the computer first time after installing Mountain Lion, some message advised me that some files were impossible to install. Once I wrote my password, and for now on, everytime I start the session, another window advise me that "Java SE 6" is missing, due that, the computer can't run some "CS5Service Manager". If I try to install it, the download ends with an error. If finally, you skip the istallation, you arrive to the dock, but the menu bar at the top of the screen doesn't show up.
In addition, my trackpad doesn't works either. I can move the arrow but i can't click anywhere, probably because the option of clicking by touching is disabeled and I can't performance a regular click.

when you install the disc, do it with the machine powered off. Place the disc in the the slot, push it in while holding the power switch tp poer it up, while holding the "C" key down till the gear starts spinning. After the gear starts spinning you can release the C key and wait. This takes much longer than normal longer, then create a new account. Be ready to wait.

  • It's impossible to install Windows 64 Bits on my Macbook Pro, why?

    Hey everybody,
I was tryng for three days to install Windows (8 and 7 after) 64 bits version on my Macbook Pro and I can tell you that It's impossible...
It's doesnt matter what I do, the PC does not recognize the bootable disk or usb for Windows.
    I followed these steps:
    - I downloaded the Windows 7 official ISO image to burn a DVD Setup after use the Boot Camp Assistant.
    - When I used the Boot Camp Assistant, I tried to "Download the latests Windows support software from Apple" but 2 minutes after I chose that option, the assistant alert me that the Server doesn't have the files anymore... so I had to simply use the install option BUT it requires that I put the Windows Installation CD on my PC and when I put it on it... the PC doesnt recognize it! My "solution": I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD and now my Mac recognize the Installation CD so I can continue with the installation...
    - After that the PC was restarted and thats the last step that I reach because when It's tryng to start with the Installation Drive it's doesn't recognize... again!! A black screen appears with a text that say "Insert a bootable drive and press any key"... or something like that.
So I'm stuck in this step because I was tryng to use another Installation CDs, burning it again and again, tryng with Windows 8 too and nothing happens.
I tried to make an USB Bootable too but my Boot Camp Assistant doesnt have any option to make it (I read that some macbooks have an a 3rd option in his Boot Camp Assistant that prepare a USB with the ISO of any Windows Installation CD) so obviously whitout it was completely useless.
I was tryng to make a bootable dvd with UDF format (cause I read that if the cd is not in that format It doesnt be recognize in Mac as a bootable drive...).
What can I do? I know that Windows 32 Bits Systems run on my Mac but It should support 64 Bits Systems too (I was reading the compatibility of Boot Camp and Windows versions and It should run!).
    Please help me
    My Macbook Model is:
    Macbook Pro 13-inch, Mid 2010
Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory 4 GB 1067 Mhz DDR3
    Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256MB
    Software: OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)
    Boot Camp Version: 5.1.2 (481)

you can just download the bootcamp drivers manually
    http://www.apple.com/dk/support/bootcamp/
    and you can't
: I mount a Virtual Drive with the ISO image of the DVD
bootloader time nothing can read virtual drives you need a real dvd with the iso burned on it or to do the usb install way
have you tried to view some of the tons of youtube guides which show you step by step how to install windows on bootcamp ?

  • Impossible to install iTunes 10.5

Hello, I have been trying to install the new version of iTunes to be able to update my iPhone with iOS5 for weeks, but everything is impossible. When I try it there appears a message of windows error.
Already I tried infinity of times uninstall the whole Apple's software and to reinstall iTunes but does not work (eliminating it with some program of uninstalling program as the CCleaner either).
    Any solution?
    Thanks

Have you tried download the iTunes software, but not use the update software.  Then turn off firewall and anti-virus program.  Restart the computer and login as admin.  Then run the iTunes download.  Often there are other installes left in memory on Windows that interfere with the iTunes installer.

    Hello,
AFAIK This error mainly points to fact that account which you are using to install SQL server does not have complete permissions. Ofcorese error can be due to many reaosns
    See if this link helps
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/6656d8ef-1df0-4e22-9e16-32ffb1754756/sql-server-2012-setup-fails-due-to-wait-on-the-database-engine-recovery-handle-failed?forum=sqlsetupandupgrade.
    If not
    What you should do is
    1. Uninstall SQL server completely.
Uninstall all SQL Server components you can using Control Panel -> Programs and Features
    Backup the registry.
Delete the following keys in regedit:
    --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
    --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete all the sub-keys referencing SQL Server.
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete all the keys referencing SQL Server.
More details in below link(see answer by Yo yo yu)
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/4d6158a1-b601-428c-aad4-a1716e76de1a/install-sql-server-problem?forum=sqlexpress
Now after complete removal of SQL server is done.
See Hardware and software req for SQl server 2012 make sure you read all instrauctions care fully and meet it before installing express.
Copy the express edition files to local folder and run setup from there.RK on setup.exe and select run as administrator
If you are using domain admin account make sure to add that account as local administrator
If you still face error share setup log file as pointed out by Balmukund.

  • Impossible to install arch in UEFI mode on my Acer Aspire S3-391

    Hi there,
I am trying to install arch-linux on my Acer Aspire S3-391, which came with a pre-shipped Windows 8. I am trying to make a dual boot, so I would like to keep the UEFI mode at startup. However, my computer won't boot on the Arch Linux USB Flash drive when in UEFI mode : when plugged in, the key prevents the computer from loading anything. The "Acer" page keeps on reloading itself, without even letting me access the BIOS menu (In other words, the computer is blocked at "POST" phase when the installation media of arch is plugged in).
Here's what I did to try and solve the problem  :
    1) of course, I disabled Secure Boot and hibernation in Windows 8.
    2) tried to boot in legacy bios. It works, and i could install arch this way : but as told before, i would like to install it in UEFI mode.
    3) Checked, re-checked and re-rechecked the installation media.
    4) tried to install Ubuntu in UEFI mode. It worked : the bootable key of Ubuntu was loaded, when the bootable key of arch is blocked. Why ? No idea...
    5) Installed Ubuntu, and tried to install Arch in UEFI mode from Ubuntu, following the tutorial "Install_from_Existing_Linux". No luck here : i was blocked at step "Testing if you are booted into UEFI mode" on the beginner's guide : I was not, and I couldn't find any solution in the tutorial.
Any suggestions on what I should try next ?

If you've already installed in BIOS/CSM/legacy mode, my recommendation is to install your EFI-mode boot loader and try it out. You'll need to use something else that does boot (such as Ubuntu), install the boot loader using the Windows bcdedit command (assuming you're dual-booting), or install the boot loader as EFI/BOOT/bootx64.efi (if you're setting up for Linux alone) to get it to work, though.

  • Problems after installing Arch [SOLVED]

    Hello,
I attempted to follow the installation instructions to install Arch Linux. I followed those since they are faster than the Beginners Guide and didn’t meet some of my needs.
For example, I was also wanting to install an LVM partition (and I'll backup and set up dm-crypt+LUKS later after I get this issue solved), which the Beginner Guide didn't mention and there were a few other minor tweaks I wanted.
In my partition layout I have a 400MB boot (extra room for other kernels). followed by an LVM volume, which has one volume group with 4 logical partitions, these are: /, /home, /tmp, and /var.
    The problem:
GRUB is not working, or at least it's not installed and configured correctly. When I boot up my computer, it says exactly, "GRUB", in the top-left corner of my screen and nothing happens. I have a poor understanding of the init/bootloader process in computers, which I am trying to learn slowly but steadily. I was re-reading the instructions for GPT specific partitions, which is what I use, and it says here:
    http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/manual … stallation
That I'm supposed to have a "BIOS partition". This is interesting because I have no idea what this is for. Something came to mind when I was using cgdisk or gdisk, it would automatically allocate the first 2000-ish sectors (instead of 34 like the documentation was hinting), so this probably means something.... I don't know.
And then I read that the BIOS installation for GPT is supposed to be done before you install Arch Linux. Whoops! So can I fix this without having to reinstall Arch? I can probably mount all of my directories and chroot inside again after creating the BIOS partition so GRUB can be configured and reinstalled correctly. Maybe I can fix this. I don't know.
So I am trying to troubleshoot this problem, but is there anything I am understanding wrongly here? Is there some other reason why GRUB won't boot up? I tried Super GRUB 2 disk and that didn't work, there was just a blank screen when booting from grub.cfg. Any help or suggestions?
I am using x86_64 Arch Linux with the installed 3.6.4-1-ARCH Linux kernel.

Be aware that logical partitions are a construct of the Master Boot Record (MBR) partitioning system; however, the title of your thread, and some of the specifics, suggest that you're using the GUID Partition Table (GPT) system, which doesn't use logical partitions. If you're certain you used gdisk or cgdisk, and not fdisk or cfdisk, then you're using GPT and I'd simply accept your use of the word "logical" as an error. If there's any doubt in your mind about this, though, you should investigate further, since some of the issues and solutions depend greatly on which partitioning system you used.
That I'm supposed to have a "BIOS partition". This is interesting because I have no idea what this is for.
The BIOS Boot Partition holds a portion of the GRUB code. It's used on GPT disks but not on MBR disks -- on MBR, the equivalent code goes in an officially-unallocated area immediately after the MBR. The BIOS Boot Partition can sometimes be just a few kibibytes in size, but it's usually either 1MiB or 2MiB. (I've seen reports that some configurations now require over 1MiB, but I haven't investigated this claim.)
Something came to mind when I was using cgdisk or gdisk, it would automatically allocate the first 2000-ish sectors (instead of 34 like the documentation was hinting), so this probably means something.... I don't know.
No, these are unrelated issues. Most partitioning tools today, including gdisk and its siblings, align all partitions on 2048-sector (1MiB) boundaries so as to avoid performance penalties that can be incurred on Advanced Format disks, SSDs, and some types of RAID arrays. See this article I wrote on the topic some time ago.
That said, if you have nowhere else to put it, you could try creating a BIOS Boot Partition in that space. You'd need to change the alignment policy in gdisk or cgdisk to align on 1-sector boundaries to do so, although an 8-sector alignment would be safer for future changes if you've got an Advanced Format disk. The BIOS Boot Partition isn't really greatly affected by the alignment issues, so I wouldn't worry about leaving it unaligned. OTOH, if GRUB wants more then 1MiB on your system, this space would be too small, so it might be better to resize a partition to make room for the BIOS Boot Partition.
WonderWoofy wrote:From what I understand (I have not tried this though) grub2 is actually lvm aware.  So you can put all partitions within the lvm, including boot.  If this is the case, I see no reason why you would not also be able to put the 2MB bios boot partition in there as well.
GRUB 2 is LVM-aware, and it is possible to put your Linux /boot directory inside the LVM. If you want to do this, though, there's really no point to split /boot off into a separate logical volume (the LVM equivalent of a partition); you might as well just make it a normal directory off of the root (/) filesystem. I'm pretty sure it is not possible to put the BIOS Boot Partition inside the LVM. That's because the code to parse the LVM data structures is contained within the BIOS Boot Partition, thus creating a chicken-and-egg situation if you were to attempt it. Furthermore, the code to write to the BIOS Boot Partition looks for the partition type code in the disk's partition table, and there's no equivalent to that in the LVM data structures. (All this said, in principle you might be able to get something like this to work, but the result would be something similar, but not identical, to a BIOS Boot Partition.)
Although GRUB 2 can read a kernel from within an LVM, I still prefer to keep a separate /boot partition. The reason is that you might not always use GRUB 2. If you wanted or needed to switch to another boot loader in the future, it might not be LVM-aware, and might need /boot to be on a true partition, not in an LVM. (This is true of every EFI boot loader except for GRUB 2, for instance.) In fact, I routinely create two or three smallish partitions on my computers so that I can create multiple /boot partitions for multi-boot configurations or to help transition to a new installation should the need arise. This can help simplify things when the time comes to start fresh.

  • 10.5.1 impossible to install wrong checksum, 10.5.1 impossible to install wrong checksum

so I try & try & try but it only works on one of my pc s but the macbook is no no & no
wrong checksum wrong this & that? when passing & going to install it will start & stop
    Saying contact the programmaker...
    any ideas?
    This started lately?
Is the same normally even on pc
byt one worked out so i updated the Iphone but can not use it with the mac.

Well, it took a trip to the Apple Store on Michigan Ave. but the problem was finally solved.
The Mac Genius was able to immediately load 10.5.2 using and external drive. it was while updating to 10.5.4 that he saw the same problem I had been seeing: "cannot not install... damaged source media...". He thought it had to do with the 'archive and install" option while the "preserve users and settings" option was selected. So he attempted to reinstall 10.5.2. This time it would not. He got the "damaged source media" message. Since it had worked before he was stumped.
Finally, he asked if I had any 3rd party memory installed. I told him I only had the additional memory I ordered when I ordered my machine from MacMall. He took the machine to the back and when he returned he said he had removed all memory and inserted 512K of Apple memory. From there everything went flawlessly. He suggested I test the memory modules when I get home to try and identify the bad module. I inserted each module (4) one at a time and ran Tech Tool Pro 4 memory tests each time. All the modules passed the tests.
The machine is running fine now and I got a free 512K out the deal so I can't be too upset. At least now I know if I ever have this problem (never had it with any other update) I will just pull all the other memory except the Apple memory, perform the install, and put the memory back. All in all, a minor inconvenience.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.

  • Windows 7 impossible to install

Hi !  My friends have a MacBook white 2009. I try to install Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bits) on it, but it is impossible. First, the DVD (OEM) is rejected every time. Second, I did a bootable usb drive with my MBPr. But in his computer, BootCamp don't detect is like a bootable devise. Also, it is not detected in the boot menu (alt at starting).
------------I verify the permissions of the disk, verify the disk, manually partitionate the drive (75 go allocated for an MS-DOS partition). Nothing works
    Thanks to help me

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use BootCamp. There's a BootCamp Support Community where everybody uses BootCamp. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • EPM11 Impossible to install and make run properly

    Hi all,
I have made several attempts to install EPM11 on my box (XP, 4GB RAM)
After every unsuccessfull try I have uninstalled all components and deleted the entire Hyperion directory. Rebooted then the maschine.
There are a lot of not understandable issues that I found:
    1. No Sample Apps has been installed except one with a strange name ($..). Sample Apps has been allways installed in older version - so only this seems to be a bug.
    2. Finally in my latest attempt (after rebooting when the hss has been installed and confirured) I was able to register essbase to hss. In all priviously attemts (without reboot) allready this failed.
    3. No Excel-Add-On is aviable after installation. And when I register it out from Excel nevertheless nothing happens when I try the connect menue.
    4. When I'm in hss-Console and go to the Essbase-Server-Prohekt then my DB (Oracle11gR1) trurns hight up to 50% of proseccor. Afterwards it is impossible to something else with EPM.
    5. Essbase Visual Explorer brings me an: Error initializing the Esbase API (Errorcode 1030725)
    Question:
Has anyone ever been able to install the EPM11 in combination with a Oracle11gR1 Repossitory successfully.
Should not everything goes better with the new installer ?
Actuelly it seems more to be in a mess.
I'm really a bit despaired and helpless.
    Andre

    Good day!
Sir/Ma'am, If you're going to install the entire EPM 11.1.1 (Client tier, Web Tier, Service tier), I suggest you use Windows Server 2003 or the likes. Never use a 32 bit OS like XP.
If you only want to install the client tier, then you won't have any problems with Windows XP.
Also, make sure that you install IIS 6.0 or higher on your Windows Server 2003 for EPM 11.1.1 to be installed successfully.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • Is there a patch or a download that I can install to solve a glitch with Photoshop CS5?

My version of CS5 keeps glitching out on me... Is there a download that I can install that might fix this issue?
Thank you for any help you can give me!
I am running CS5 on a 2012 iMac with 8GB of RAM and 750GB of free Hard Drive space.

By the screenshot, it looks like you are running Yosemite. Be sure you have updated to 10.01
Yosemite upgrades have been known to damage CS5 installs and re-installs have been recommended.
I would go with Uninstall/Clean Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6/Reinstall as well as Disk Utility permissions repair all from an Administrator account.
Latest ACR is 6.7 and latest CS5 is 12.0.4 found here Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh
See if you are updated first.   Does that Adobe symbol and 1 in the menu contain a update?
