In-Course Collaboration

I have a question about the new Adobe Presenter 9 in-course collaboration feature. First off, this is an absolutely amazing feature! This is something that could be a game changer for those of us running asynchronous eLearning courses. My question is this: are there any plans to include this feature in a future release of Captivate? While Presenter is great for certain types of lessons, Captivate is still our primary authoring tool due to its robust array of development capabilities. To have this feature available in some lessons but not others would be confusing and frustrating for our learners.

Unfortunately it looks as though the Widget is no longer being supported as there is a message that the Widget has expired. I've emailed Adobe as it suggests and will update you if I get a reply.

  • Collaboration Server Software?

    As a solution provider company, using a multi-user environment, collaboration is of course important. Allowing 'users' to see and text/chat with eachother is fundimental in a 3D environment.
    Using Director 11.5 for the first time to create a 3D web-based environment, having control/ownership of the collaborative server software, so it can be deployed with the environment, and or, allowing your userbase use of your own collaborative server, I am confused how this is implimented in Director 11.5.
    Our direction is to use a XMPP deployable server access to our userbase, or our own inhouse C based collaborative software. This controls 'Instances' of the environment to control the amount of users in an environment, and text/chat collaboration within each Instance, amongst other forms of functionality.
    My question is... can we use our own collaborative server software, that meets the api's of Director for interactivity between instances of the environments, and control of those environments, for say password/username entry into those instances? Or are we bound to use only a bespoke collaboration system provided by Adobe/Director?

    Of note is that it connects to any DB via JBDC drivers, and can also link in with custom Java functions too - in addition to the Director communication.

  • Collaboration Rooms and Document Uploads from Network

    Hi,
    We are starting to use Collaboration Rooms and would like the Documents iview to point to our network file system, so when a user uploads a file he can do it via the portal or our network drive. We are using FSR's elsewhere and are wondering how to incorporate it into a collab room document iview. Our portal environment is NW04 Stack 12.
    Any assistance would be most appreciated.

    Hi Kris,
    what you need to do is to create a collaboration room template that would integrate a KM Navigation iView that points to the file share. Of course, first you need to integrate the share via repository manager in KM.
    I hope you know how to integrate the share into KM. For more on how to create a room template check the info in this thread:

  • LSO Create Course Links link types (restrict link types)

    Hi all,
    a question to pose for some of those IMG gurus out there!
    We are implementing LSO (and its Portal front-end) and a requirement to 'limit the course link types available to users' has cropped up.
    Specifically, what we're trying to achieve is the following:
    1. Course Admin runs 'Create or Change Course'
    2. After selecting the location, etc, the admin clicks on the Links tab to add links to the course
    3. A list of predefined links (inherited from the course type) are already listed. User clicks 'Add' to add some more.
    4. A pop up appears. Here you may select the Link Type. Our choices are 'Web Link' (i1061) and 'Collaboration Room' (i5045).
    We only want 'Web Link' to appear in the drop-down list of Link Type options. Short of enhancements to strip out the values is there a means of manipulating the Link Types available to a user when they add Links to a new Course? This is where I'm hoping a config activity is available in IMG. It may be that because the Course infty and Web Link/Collaboration Room infty are related, we can't do this, but I'll pose the question anyway as it is (so far proved to be!) a tricky one.

    I do not paste images from clipboard (I consider it bad practice) but I have clients who do.
    In my experience InDesign does not lower the resolution, but the pasted image is RGB. That and the fact that it doesn't show up in the links is why I don't like it.
    Are there any other link types? It seems like this would be a type (if it showed up in links panel), since it is not really imported.
    The only way I know to make them links is copy, paste into blank Photoshop, save that then place that into InDesign. This is easy to do, but finding all these pasted graphics can be time consuming, since they are not in links list.
    This would apply to raster images only, since pasted vector art converts to the native InDesign platform.

  • ERP Learning / SAP Courses

    we are going to install mySAP ERP 2005 in Q1 2008.
    I'm an SAP Consultant: MM/PP - R/3, Rel. 4.6C, for 10 years; Inventory Collaboration Hub (ICH) - SAP Netweaver 2004, Rel. 4.1, for 1/2 year.
    It is absolutely necessary to update my knowledge.
    SAP offers different courses for example some Delta-Courses (MM, PP, ...).
    What are your experiences with those Delta-Courses?
    Are they necessary? Are they helpful?
    And my second question is: Will there be any changes in my daily tasks when I am working with mySAP ERP 2005? I cannot imagine how it would be, because the technology is absolutely different to R/3

    After opening the site, please select the Source Release Version which is 4.6 b Then Select the Target Release Version which is "mySAP ERP 2005" or ECC 6.0
    Select the Solution Area like Financials, Human Capital Management, Sales....
    Select module like MM, PP, SD, QM.....
    Click on Search
    Then it displays the Release Version and the Delta Functionality. which can be downloaded to a word document if required.
    and also check the release notes of ECC 6.0 in service.sap.com.

    I'm sorry if this query is posted elsewhere in the forum. I'm and MBA graduate with around 5 Years of HR experience. I'm currently thinking about becoming an SAP Functional consultant in my experience area. Since US is the best market for SAP I'm interested to pursue my PG in SAP/ERP in the US. However, most of the SAP courses are in collaboration with MBA programs. Can anyone please suggest me Universities that conduct full time SAP/ERP courses in the US (any location). Since I have already completed my MBA I don't want to pursue MBA related SAP course.

  • Course companion and Twitter Widget

    Is the course companion and its twitter collaboration tools no longer in Captivate?
    The adobe site has videos explaining this (Social Learning using Twitter « Rapid eLearning | Adobe Captivate Blog) but I can't seem to find it on the interface - I'm very much a newbie stumbling about so apologies if I'm asking about the blindingly obvious.
    Also, I asked recently if anyone has news of the collaboration dashboard as seen in presenter 9. I'm told it's coming to CP8 - any thoughts on this anyone?

  • Collaboration Launch Pad

    Hi gurus,
       I enabled (CLP)in the Tool Area iview. Until here it works fine. Now, I can launch CLP from link. But when I run this link (CLP) use a own layout set, I need to modify it but I think it is hardcode.
       Does anybody know how I can setup it to use my own layout set ?
    I create a new layout, with a set of command (send to, instant message, add/remove contact, create/remove contact list). When I launch CLP I want to use this layout.

    Hi Patricio,
    I would say you have two possibilities here:
    #1: You change the standard Layout Set that is displayed when opening the com.sap.netweaver.coll.shared.ui.CollaborationLaunchPad component (so when clicking on the Collaboration link). This would be the "CollaborationLaunchPadTree" Layout Set, and of course not a recommended thing to do.
    #2: Using Sreecharan advise to create a new iView based on the above component. Use here your own Layout Set and make sure that the "Path for Initial Display Folder" is "/alias/%3Cmycontacts%3E" and the "Path for Start Uri" is "/alias/<mycontacts>". Now, you would deactivate the standard "Collaboration" link from the masthead and very easily integrate your own link (with the same name = Collaboration) following the newly released How-to Guide "Enabling Links in Tool Area". The link behind would be of course the NavigationTarget=...-URL to your new CLP iView.

  • [All Platforms] New UI for On-the-Fly Collaborative Playlists

    The idea came to me following a house party. There were four of us and we couldn’t decide whose Spotify playlist we should listen to. The decision was, as usual with us, to play one song per person. This didn’t work well either as only one device could be connected through Bluetooth to the stereo system at a time. Once a song finished there had to be a long wait for another song to start while one device disconnected from the stereo system and another connected, then all over again.. We gave up on the music all together in the end.
    The next morning the solution seemed obvious to me. It would make things a lot easier if we could have a shared playlist. At the moment I know it is possible to share your own playlist with friends, but haven’t heard about one that can be created by several people at the same time in such an easy way.
    The idea is simple, but in my view would solve the problem my friends and I had at the house party. It works in the following way:
    Let’s say I want to create a new playlist that I could share with several people in the room. I create a playlist on the main device, call it ‘Alena’s House Party’. I then choose a list of people I want to share my playlist with (these would be people I follow already or another Spotify user that I can easily browse).  A message appears on the personal devices of the people I have selected to accept the invitation. Once this is done a bubble (like the one in Facebook messenger) appears on all the relevant devices including the main device. This is the new Spotify playlist I have just created. Now my friends and I can browse our personal playlists and drag and drop the songs we want to add to ‘Alena’s House Party’. As a host, I get to review and sort the suggestions. Alternatively, to be absolutely fair, one song per person could be automatically selected from the list of suggested songs.
    The plus of this is that it is easy to use. The bubble can appear anywhere on the screen on your mobile and you can sort your songs at any time, it also allows you to copy your favourite songs in the new playlist by dragging and dropping from various existing playlists on Spotify. And of course makes it easier to share music with your friends instantly and without a hustle.

    feature as you describe but failed to figure out how it works. Am I correct
    in thinking that by using this feature you can take an existing playlist
    and and allow someone else to edit it? If so, I believe my idea is
    different and certainly would be easier to understand and use. I am
    suggesting a totally new playlist that would be created on the go. Say, I
    add a few songs (could be from different playlists) and my friends can do
    the same from their own playlists. The application would be easy to use as
    all you need to do is drag and drop a song into a bubble, which is the
    shared playlist.
    Therefore, I wouldn't like the case to be closed. If you feel you need to
    change the description, please do so.

  • Only Super Administration role can use collaboration rooms,

    The problem using portal 7.0 SP14, The users came from a SAP systems. the users with super administration role, Collaboration and CollaborationRoomCreator works perfectly, I mean, can create rooms and enter without problem, then i have an user that have standard user role, and collaboration role, and its include as member in an room, but when I try to enter to the room I get an error. and of course doesn't work... I have try with several role to enter the room, all 6 roles from collaboration, (3 specialist, 3 com.sap.pct) and nothing, Only with super admin role works.... and off course..... that not the idea...
    The exception that I get is:

  • Error when Clickin on Room in Collaboration

    I created a room and assigned users to that particular Room.
    I want to send information in to that Room.
    But when i click on Collaboration>Rooms>Room Directory-->Room1 it is giving me this error
    "Portal Runtime Error

    This is quite a generic error message that could be caused by many reasons. One of them is detailed in the following post by Brian:

  • Collaborating On An Excel File

    Here's a scenario where presenters need to collaborate on an Excel file. The meeting host is sharing an Excel worksheet in the Share pod from his/her desktop and wants all "Presenters" in the meeting room to be able to collaborate on the worksheet. All the presenters should be able to add/ modify data in the worksheet for collaboration during the meeting.
    How does Request Screen Share function work? If all the Presenters are made Hosts in the meeting and they Request Screen Share from the person who has the File open on the desktop, would that work? Can multiple Hosts Request Share Screen of one Host in the meeting and then be able to collaborate on a document such as Excel worksheet? Or there an easier way to do this?
    This is rather urgent for a meeting today.

    The following may address your problem, albeit in a slightly different way. For such requirements in the future, see if the following works.
    From what I understand, you want multiple people collaborating on a spreadsheet and simultaneously sharing a view of the spreadsheet in Connect for everyone to see. (Why else would you use Connect to broadcast the sheet?! :-) )
    How about using a spreadsheet on acrobat.com? These support simultaneous editing by multiple folks.
    One of the hosts/presenters can open the spreadsheet in a browser and share it in the Connect room for everyone to see the spreadsheet.
    Of course, this does away with the need to pass on the control to anyone else for updating the spreadsheet.

    Judging by this statemet from the Services Reference (2-1) I would say that Collaboration Manager is dead.
    The core services are still supported but I guess it is no longer available
    "The CollaborationManager component and its services have been removed
    because the product is not supported in 11g Release 1 (11.1.1). Core collaboration
    services have been moved to the Core Services chapter."
    Of course the only real truth has to come from product management or license sales.
