Inadvertent $1500 in app purchase Tap Zoo - warning!

My young cousin played some free games on my girlfriend's iPhone and somehow managed to purchase Tap Zoo (it must have logged in beforehand). Within this game, players can buy gold coins which I understand buys animals.
My cousin who is 8yrs old proceeded to make nearly AUD$1500 worth of purchases of these gold coins within the app, without any need for password or any warnings. Remember this game is designed for children.
I checked the developer's website and it appears they have acknowledged they have done the wrong thing and have supported people to seek refunds.
We have emailed iTunes support OVER 48 hours ago and no response. Can someone recommend what we can do as this is a lot of money and our credit card has been cancelled because the bank thought it was a suspicious purchase.
I have posted link to Streetview Labs - please be careful and don't let your kids play this till the developer fixes the problem which is over 10 days old and doesn't seem to be fixed yet.
*Any advice on how to get iTunes to respond all we have is an email and it has been 3 days since the first email we sent.*

You can rack up $200 fairly quickly, I do know that. This game has a feature that allows you to buy a "Trunk of Coins" for $99.99. Seriously- $99.99 for a single feature. My kid purchased this game because it was FREE, then bought a boat load of features and I ended up with $240 on my card in less than 2 minutes, with TWO transactions for $99.99 each, for a "Trunk of Coins." Look it up on the app. It's in there. This whole concept of "in-app-purchase" should be pulled. Most people don't know that they have to do that in order to prevent these kinds of charges. Apple shouldn't allow these apps to even get away with this total BS. Feels like a SCAM to me, praying on kids who don't know the difference then blaming the parents for not paying attention to something they didn't even know that had to pay attention to.

  • Cannot make in app purchase, no response when Buy Now tapped

I have previously made 2 in app purchases from this app. When a third in app purchase was recently made available I tapped $1.99 Buy Now, but got no response of any kind other than a slight flicker of the blue Buy Now button.
I have money in my account, have no restrictions enabled in settings and other people with this app have been able to make this in app purchase.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Problem solved, thanks!  I contacted the app developer and was told this problem was only with iPad users, he was waiting for Apple to resolve the problem AND gave me a work around.  Order has been restored to my life...at least for now.

  • In app purchase for the Simpsons tapped out didn't go through and now app won't open

I bought donuts on the Simpsons tapped out app n it went to iTunes and I did in app purchase, and now my app won't open and it seems like my phone is trying to download it keeps asking me for my apple password when app shuts down, I tries to delete app and reload it, it doesn't help I also retuned phone to default setting still nothing, i can go on my other devices and load app but it doesn't show my purchase, did this happen to anyone else and did u find an answer to fixing this problem????? Please Help!!!!!

I had this same exact thing happen. The problem seemed to occur when I tried to do an in-app purchase and my iTunes Apple ID needed payment verification. Tapped Out triggered the iOS to open the verification part of the App Store. After verification iOS asked if I wanted to proceed with the purchase. I hit "ok". The App Store was trying to handle the in app purchase like it was a regular app purchase. When I went back into Tapped Out, I was met with an error message stating that the purchase has been made, and it was waiting for download. I also couldn't initiate any more in app purchases. When I quit and relaunched Tapped Out, it flashed the loading screen and then quickly crashed. Followed by a prompt for my Apple ID password.
The disconnect here is somewhere in the coding from Tapped Out to the iOS. Tapped Out is asking for authorization on a in app purchase and the iOS is trying to initiate a regular app purchase.
I have tried erasing and reinstalling Tapped Out. I have tried signing out of my iTunes account and launching Tapped Out. I have tried "Resetting All Settings" from the general setting panel in iOS, which usually fixes everything... Nothing is working though.
I was able to download Tapped Out on a different iOS device (all running 7.0.4 btw) and was able to run it, sign in with my Tapped Out login and Apple ID. I was even able to initiate the in app purchase fully. So this tells me that the bug here is buried deep in the preference of iOS 7 on my original device, not the Tapped Out account or my iTunes Apple ID.
The sure fire answer to solve this is to do a clean erase and restore of the device. I really don't want to do that though because it will get rid of my current camera roll and my text history. Plus I'll have to resync all my music and that takes a while. I'm hoping the bug just times out and the app refreshes itself... But I'm doubtful of that. I think we are the unintentional collateral damage from some sloppy coding on EA's part.  A clean erase and install might be the only answer. Hopefully it will rectify itself though...

  • TS1702 I am trying to make an in app purchase when I tap buy it tells me that I have already downloaded the purchase and then it tells me the purchase failed. How can I resolve this problem?

I Am trying to make an "in app" purchase when I press buy it tells me that I have already downloaded this purchase, then I get a message that the purchase failed. How can I resolve this issue?

When an app is downloaded under an Apple ID it is permanently tied to that Apple ID.  The only option is to de
Ete and then download under your Apple ID.

  • In-app purchases on games come with a warning?

My son has racked up $60 in in-app charges on just two "free" games in the space of one week--Space Rider and Cartoon Wars 2
I never would have allowed him to download these games if I had known this was possible  (he needs my password which I keep private). I though apps went through some kind of review before the iTunes store release them, this is a rip-off if not fraudulent because my son was not aware he was incurring these charges (one pop-up he said came up with what looked like Chinese characters).

Why not simply enable restrictions for In-App Purchases and App Purchases in Settings > General > Restrictions?
I cannot find it right now, but I believe what you describe is a new feature in iOS6 to stop the annoying password pop-up prompts when purchasing apps.
    Edit:
Upon further investigation, this is a new feature but the password is still required for new apps.
The new feature is simply that updates do not require the password.
So no functionality has really changed... are you certain your daughter does not know your Apple ID password?

    Dear Charin,
Josh here from the iTunes Store.
I understand your son made a purchase accidentally that you would like refunded. When it comes to your money, I can certainly appreciate how important it is to feel that you are treated fairly, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this today.
Please read my entire email as I have included information about your refund, what was purchased and how to avoid these type of purchases in the future.
Charin, the charges in question are for in-app purchases. An in-app purchase is a purchase that can be made within an Application on an iPhone or an iPod Touch.
In-App purchases are items you can buy that will assist you in advancing in the game you're playing. Some examples of In App Purchases are: bonus game levels or maps, additional experience points, subscriptions, and recurring services.
The Application "Diamond Dash" was free, and this is the Application that was used to purchase the in-app items. The in-app purchases were for "1000 Gold" to be used when playing "Diamond Dash."
Please note that there is a 15 minute window after initially entering in your password, where the password is not requested again. Once this time has passed, you will be requested for your password, and also to confirm the purchase by tapping the Buy button.
    To prevent any further in-app purchases from being made unintentionally, please set the in-app restriction on your device(s) as soon as possible. You can set the in-app restriction on an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad by following these steps;
    1) Click on the "Settings" Application
    2) Now from the list of options click on "General"
    3) Scroll down and click on "Restrictions"
    4) Under the heading "Allowed Content" be sure that "In-App Purchases" is "OFF."
After reviewing the circumstances of your case, we determined that issuing you a refund for your unintentional purchase of "1000 Gold" is an appropriate exception to the App Store Terms and Conditions, which state that all sales are final. In five to seven business days, a credit of $99.99 should be posted to the credit card that appears on the receipt for that purchase.
The iTunes Store provides a warning message that asks if you are sure that you want to buy an item. This warning can be turned off. If you would like to make sure that this warning is on, you can reset the warnings in the iTunes Store by following the instructions in this article:
    Resetting iTunes Store warnings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1734
Additionally, you can make modifications on certain devices that will prevent them from making purchases:
iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Understanding Restrictions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
Please let me know if you require any further assistance with this issue, as if you do, I would be glad to help. Thank you very much for being part of the iTunes Store family, Charin. I hope you have a great day.
    Sincerely,
    Josh

  • HT4859 iCloud backed up my iPad at 3:00 pm yesterday. After that I inadvertently deleted an app called Good Reader with a significant amount of data. Good reader is now missing from my iPad, but appears on my iCloud  account.  How do I get it back?

ICloud backed up my iPad yesterday at 3:00 pm. After that I inadvertently deleted an app called Good Reader which contained a lot of data. iCloud still shows the app, how do I get it back to my iPad?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
To recover completely you'd need to restore from a back up that contained the app data. Alternatively you can just restore the app by redownloading it.
You can re-download content purchased from the app store using the purchased option which is revealed by tapping the updates option at the bottom of the screen of the App store app on your iOS device.

  • In reply to the questn of Tap Zoo charged to me US$0.99

    Stedman
I received your reply on the above.
You mentioned that the charges are for the App purchase of "Vial of coins" and not for Tap Zoo..
But the problem is I have not clicked on the "Vial of Coins".  and I have sync my iPhone with the PC, this game isn't in my pc nor Iphone at all.
Kindly refund the US$0.99 to my credit card account..
I have purchased many times with iTunes and this is my first time encountering this.  Not as if I am here to cheat the US$0.99.
    So Please REFUND my US$S0.99!!

There was no mention made in my post reagrding an App called "Vial of coins" Your receiopt clearly show that it was an "In App" purchase. The coins were purchased from within the game Tap Zoo.

  • Child downloaded $440 worth of in app purchases!  What do I do?

I set up up a child account on my old first gen ipad that was mine.  I opened up a child account in his name.  Than on itunes on my mac i set up a monthly allowance.  the monthly allowance showed up in his account.  But than he statred to download in app purchases with his id and his password.  Next thing i know about 2 weeks later, i get a fraud warning from my credit card that $440 worth of itunes was charged.  I looked into it and found on his account multiple $49.99 in app purchases for "gems"!!!!!  I asked him about it and he said evry time i tapped on the buy button, his id came up asking for his password so he entered it.
Low in behold instead of dening the purchase because his month allowance was used up, it simple charged MY credit card that is associated with MY apple id.  HOW THE HECK DOES THIS HAPPEN?
This was not my sons fault, we both assumed once the credit was used up, it would deny his purchases.
    What do i do?
    Thanks
    Keith

You are not alone, my wife ran up £3,000 worth of charges doing this. However I was aware of what in app purchases could do and also that they could be turned off, but didn't do so because I assumed that she would know different. I accepted this is my fault and took it as an expensive lesson.
Apple's policy on sales of digital content is that all sales are final. If however you wish to appeal to Apple, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History on your computer.
Currently, if your purchase happens to be your most recent purchase you will need to click the large ‘Report A Problem’ button under the list of previous purchases in order to reveal the ‘Report A Problem’ link for your recent purchase. If your purchase is listed as a previous purchase use the small arrow on the left side of its listing.
Alternatively you can use the receipt email to report a problem.

  • In-App purchase is not working in iOS7

I have a working code for In-App purchase , its working fine in iOS6 but when I run in iOS7 I got "Failed to load list of products" in debug area and when I tap on restore button to get the already purchased product it says "Cannot connect to iTunes Store".
I searched a lot regarding this but did not found any solution for this.
    Please suggest

I have a couple apps that have been in the marketplace for quite some time. Now with iOS 7 there have been some bugs reported. I am trying to rebuild them in XCode 5 with a iOS 6 target. However, I have some serious problems with the StoreKit. The first App always returns "Cannot connect to iTunes" when I try to test an In-App purchase on my iOS 7 iPad. With my second App, the In-App purchase seems to work, however I never get any responses using NSNotificationCenter. "productPurchased" and "productPurchaseFailed" never get hit. I created test users and I believe they are valid. I logged out of iTunes on the device. Does anyone know what might have caused this to stop working for me? I have made no other changes to my code. I am only trying to run it in XCode 5 on an iOS 7 device. Thanks for any help someone might be able to provide!

  • HT2075 I have been charged for over £135 of in app purchases that I haven't made. What can I do? I did email itunes 3days ago but had no response!!

Help!!  I started recieving emails from ITunes with reciept for payments on Friday evening and they continued to come in till Sat morning. First thing I did was check with my family and no one has made the purchases. The receipts show the date as 12th October and as the children were at school then cubs AND they don't know the apple id, I really can't see how they could have done it. My husband is not in the slightest bit interested in Dragonvale or Tap Pet Hotel (he's also quite tight) so he definately wouldn't have done it.
Is it possible for mistakes like this to happen or is there a possibility that my account has been hacked??
I emailed itunes support on Sat 13th but despite their reassurance that they will respond within 48 hours I have heard nothing. I have tried to report a problem on each receipt but that doesn't seem to lead to any page.
I have since changed my password and ensured that all the necessary restrictions are in place for in app purchases, but its made me want to delete all my apps and never download anything from itunes again, as it obviously isnt secure.
    Can anyone help?

It can take a number of days before the refunds will show on your card - if they aren't there by the end of the week then try contacting iTunes Support again.
