Incorrectly charged $250 deposit. Verizon refuses to refund.

I signed up for service on 09/25 (to start on October 1) and the Verizon sales agent, after running a credit check, told me at that time that I needed to pay a $250 deposit. This surprised me and when I asked why, she replied that there were a variety of factors that went into it, and not just my credit score. So I went ahead and agreed. A couple of days later, I was still puzzled and called back about it and was given the same answer. At the end of last week, I received a letter in the mail from Verizon stating that the *only* reason I had to pay this deposit was because I had "No credit history" after they checked with Transunion. Having always had good credit rating, this really surprised me and I called Transunion myself and they verified that I did indeed have credit history and a good one at that.
Back to Verizon again, where I try to clarify this. They run my credit check again and a different sales agent this time says she has no idea why I was charged a deposit ! She tells me to check with FInancial services for a refund, who passes me off to the credit dept, who then sends me back to sales. This third sales agent confirms that the original person who signed me up used the short form of my first name - without confirming it with me(!!) - and that's why I was charged a deposit, while the second one didn't and used my full legal name. I point out that this is their fault and that I am owed the $250 at this point. This agent says the only way I can get my $250 back is to wait a year or quit my services(!) - even though this entire situation was created by Verizon in the first place. I try repeatedly pointing out that it is their fault - all to no avail.
I switched to Verizon from Comcast because of crappy customer service, and I am pretty frustrated and disappointed with the same treatment here. I am hoping customer service on this forum can help out.

  • INCORRECTLY CHARGED FOR DEPOSIT, NOT GETTING REFUND

I purchased a new phone from a Verizon store about three weeks back. I was asked to pay a deposit of 400 dollars, which I was told, would be refunded if I paid my bills regularly for a year. The representative at the store *incorrecly* swiped my card twice and I have ended up paying 800 dollars. I have been contacting Verizon's several departments everyday, (Finance, local store and Customer Service) from the time I got the phone. No one seems willing to help and will not give me any proper information on when I will receive the 400 dollars that I was charged for no reason. I am sick of calling all your departments and hoping that someone will help. I am out of 800 dollars and no one seems to care!!!!!

  • PLEASE BE ADVISED! I was charged 250.00 overage

PLEASE BE ADVISED! I was charged 250.00 overage use while trying to set up new iphones. There was confusion between charges via 611 (free verizon data help) ,800 verizon help(minutes billed to my account)and apple help 800-275-help( min. billed to my verizon account).
Verizon helped those who incurred data roaming charges while overseas !
I'm hoping Verizon will help me with charges  incurred while trying to set up the three iphones i bought.
PLEASE BE ADVISED! I was charged 250.00 overage use while trying to set up new iphones.

If YOU REGISTER THE HELP NUMBER WITH VERIZON AS AN INCLUDED FRIENDS AND FAMILY NUMBER BEFORE YOU CALL,you won't incur the non retroactive charge that I did. If you dial 611 verizon help, there's no charge,if you dial Verizon's 800 number, you will be charged; therefore you might add that number to friends and family too.
Things always take longer than you hope: I am Very Tech Savvy, always use about half  my plans minutes allowance and didn't expect things to take forever, but the real surprise was when I was billed for it(I feel for the people who go overseas and don't turn off their data roaming)!
I bought a macbook pro at Christmas, a new iphone 4s in Jan., 2 other iphone 4's last August. I waited till icloud issues settled, then updated all my devices. switched  mobile me to icloud. I was warned this would take time. It took 600 minutes  WITH THE HELP support AT APPLE (which appeared as overage on my verizon family plan that cost me $250.00 extra- total bill $600.00, OUCH!)
USUALLY I take all devices to apple or Verizon stores and have the geniuses help me, but due to the holiday volume ( I walked in and then walked out-OMG!), I decided to use the phone geniuses.
After  pleading  with Verizon ,they reduced my fee. I now have the Apple help number listed as a number I can use without incurring minutes, however this could NOT be made retroactive to absorb the costs.

Hello splashsalon! I'm very sorry to see that you were billed overage charges, and I want to thank you for bringing this matter to the attention of the VZW Community. I do want to expand on one of your statements. You mention that calls to *611 from your VZW phone are not billable, but that calls to our 800 number are (calls deduct from your allowance of minutes). I want to state that calls to our 800 number (specifically 800-922-0204) are not billable (do not deduct from your allowance of minutes) as long as they originate from within your home calling area (all 50 United States nationwide on all current price plans). If you are certain that you were billed minutes of use for calls to 800-922-0204, please let me know. I will be happy to review your bill for accuracy. Thanks again!

  • Verizon refused to unlock my iphone4

Verizon refused to unlock my iphone4 because they thought the iphone was a stolen phone. I bought the phone on ebay and my daughter had used the phone for several months, later on, she gave it to her sister after upgrading it to Iphone 5. But when her sister needed to transfer her old phone to this phone, Verizon couldn't reactivate it, and the reason was they said the phone was a stolen phone. How could Verizon activate it but couldn't re-activate???
With all the power they have to lock, unlock, reset, reboot or whatever, but they couldn't unlock a simple iphone.
I was asking to trade with even a used phone so my other daughter could use one, but Verizon wouldn't even consider it.....it SUCKS!
I have been a Verizon customer for many years and happy, but not until now. I am considering switching provider and telling at least 300+ people
    where I work about this.

Person steals phone, posts it on ebay, you get phone, phone activated. Real owner discovers it is stolen, reports it stolen to Verizon. Verizon puts phone on black list. This does not deactivate phone, but cannot be reactivated again on Verizon. You daughter gets new phone, gives it to sister. Cannot reactivate.
The real victim here is the real owner that had his or her phone stolen.

  • Verizon refuses to fix my landline

We have had a landline for over 30 years in our apartment in Manhattan. It frequently goes out and a repairperson comes and “fixes” something in the box behind our building. It happened again a couple of months ago. Then it happened again on April 7, 2015. This time they came and said they are not going to fix it anymore. Flabbergasted, I tried to contact Verizon on the web, but it denied my attempt with the response that my phone number is no longer valid. I called Verizon who then promised me that they will have a foreman call me back by April 9 to address the issue. It is now April 11 and I have not heard from them yet.
Is it really true that Verizon can just decide not to fix your phone anymore?
Can Verizon refuse you service like that?

  • Verizon refuses to ship to a different address than our billing address?

My girlfriend and I decided to go on a share plan.  She is on AT&T and I am on Verizon Wireless.  *I* persuaded *her* that we should choose VZW, since I've been on Verizon for almost a decade, and did not want to change.  Ever since then, Verizon's done everything it can to persuade us we made the wrong decision.  After spending hours on the phone and the website -- most recently nearly an hour and a half on the phone -- with nothing to show for it, I'm hoping someone here has a recommendation.
First, Verizon refused to honor a loyalty discount I had been offered before.  Of course, it had expired -- apparently it's a *bad* thing that they've been getting free money from me for over a year while I've been eligible for an upgrade?  The rep I spoke with was very friendly, but said there was absolutely nothing she could do about it; the best she could do was offer me a slightly less-worse downgrade from my current unlimited data plan.  (Note that she only mentioned this after I had been on the phone with her for a long time.)
Second, despite being pretty savvy about this sort of thing, neither of us could find a way to navigate the website such that we could bring her over from AT&T and upgrade my phone at the same time -- even though we *have* to do it at the same time for us to both get the contract price on our on new phones.
FInally, the last straw: after spending over an hour on the phone -- both my girlfriend and I had to be there according to the rep we spoke with, since she was porting her number from AT&T -- the second rep we spoke with walked my girlfriend through the entire credit check, plan, phone order, etc., and got to *shipping*, when he then insisted the phone could *ONLY BE SHIPPED TO THE BILLING ADDRESS.*  We can't get FedEx shipments at home because WE WORK.  Our building has no secure place for packages.  The FedEx "depot" is far away and we don't have a car.  This is common in New York City.  Verizon has always shipped phones to my work address before.  She and I argued with him for as long as we could stand it, but he utterly refused.  After ten minutes or so more of this, he admitted that we could to go to a store; they could order it there and we could pick it up.  He couldn't ship the order we had just spent over an hour on to a store; we had to basically start over.
As my girlfriend said, getting married will be simpler and faster than it has been for us to join our cell phone plans.
Can it possibly be true that Verizon will no longer ship to a work address?!  What have other people done in this situation?  I am so incredibly frustrated, and the idea of now having to find a time when both of us can go to a store (we work in different boroughs, that'll be fun), after having spent hours on the phone and the website, makes me irrationally angry.  I am this close to giving up and joining my girlfriend on AT&T.

Update: my girlfriend went to an official Verizon store because the sales rep on the phone had told her if she did that, the store could order the phone and she could pick it up there.  Turns out the sales rep was wrong.  Even if you order in the store, Verizon will ship it to your billing address.
This is beyond ridiculous.  What "fraud" is Verizon protecting against by not allowing my girlfriend to pick up her phone *in person*, with *photo identification*?  Answer: none.  This is a policy for policy's sake, not for anyone's best interests; a side of Verizon I was familiar with, but which this time has caused so much aggravation (and wasted time) that it's about to be a deal-breaker.
Has *anyone* else in this situation been able to talk to someone with sufficient authority to override this idiotic policy?  I'd rather not switch to AT&T, but my girlfriend is already sick to death of Verizon, and I don't blame her.  More to the point, we seem to have no reasonable way of getting her a Verizon iPhone.

  • Verizon refusal to accept outbound emails

Verizon refuses my outbound emails, so far from two public wifi locations away-from-home. One is a Comcast ISP location.  Never refuses them from attwifi locations, however.  Inbound emails are not affected anywhere, and internet usage is not affected.   An automated refusal is all that I get.  How about providing some information, so I hate you less for being an overblown, unresponsive, too-big-to-fail provider?  Like, can I change a setting?

Is there an actual error message associated with the failure?

  • Why is Orange requesting £250 deposit before I can buy a week bundle for my Ipad?

I bought my Ipad from Apple's online store and it came with a free Orange Sim card but when I tried to purchase a week's  PAYG bundle to use on the ipad I was told I had to pay a £250 deposit and link it to an account.
I only want to PAYG - does anyone recommend another provider which will allow me to do this?

Hello MiniMe2. I am steaming just like you and my iPad lost the magic, I am looking at it right now with dissapointment, not taking it as serious tool but as some sort of paper weight, nice toy. I would advise you to save your presentations using Tools/Share Print/Send to iTunes menu items in Keynote presentation. That is what I have been doing ever since, but recently I am not able to bring back some of my presentations from iTunes even know I have had using them numerous times in the past. Error message: "Presentation couldn't beimported." So I cannot give you this advice. Can you imagine the horror? Iam up front of people who depend on my presentation and I cannot bring it up.So I did half *** presentation using my own unreliable memory. I am sure that my audience and my boss were not impressed, extent of damage could be even looking for new job, but you think Apple cares laughing all the way to the bank?

  • Verizon refuses to honor $10 off upgrade from regular phone to smartphone incentive

After upgrading from regular phone to smart phone that was advertised for $10 off last december, customer service dragged feet for over one year with no response only to come back stating that the offer is no longert available (duh) so they cannot honor the discount which was the only reason I upgraded in the first place.  Thus, they made a substantial change to the plan affecting my bill and refuses to refund my overpayment and threatened to cut my lines if I do not pay the full amount.  Anyone have another reqource to get my reimbursement without losing my account and ruining my credit?

Thank you the community for your assistance.

  • Verizon can't refund my payment?

I made a payment last night and then realized it's not even due until the end of the month- My fault. So I called customer service right after I made the payment. They said they cannot refund it or cancel it and my bank would have to. This morning I called my friend who works at the bank and she told me Verizon needed to refund me because the took the payment and even double checked with the department that takes care of the debit cards (since I used my debit card). So then I called a Verizon store and they once again told me the bank had to deal with it So I told her I already spoke to the bank and the said it was Verizon's problem So then she was very rude and says well I don't know what to tell you and I said well I guess ill have to go to the bank. I went to the bank and once again they told me they couldn't do anything it was up to Verizon unless I wanted to dispute it which would cost me $25 and they suggested I go to the Verizon store and speak with a manager. So I did. I got there and they checked me in and they directed me to a woman. I started explaining the story and she interrupts me and says I talked to you on the phone and told you there's nothing we can do. I said well I was just at the bank and they said it's Verizon's problem. She's called a manger over and said This is the phone call I told you about earlier and I told her there's nothing we can do. So the manager says we can call a number and we can speak to someone about refunding you. So they hand me the phone and I'm speaking to someone and she's says "they're not going to give you your money back". Needless to say the man on the phone and the manager were very nice and I'll be getting my money back in the next 5 days . Why couldn't they have just done this in the first place?! I was So mad that I had to go back and forth all day and all they had to do was call a number. I will be calling and making a complaint tomorrow cause this was ridiculous.

I am sorry to hear that the customer service left much to be desired. As for the payment issue, one thing to keep in mind would be that the VZW Treasury department, which is the department that would investigate and potentially return all payments that had some issue, will only reverse a payment that is made if there is an error on the side of VZW; this means that double payments through the ivr or website after or before an automatic payment goes through and payments that were larger than originally intended would be ineligible for reversal. The banking institution does have a means to reverse withdrawals out of your account; if they do not, then it is time to consider banking with a different institution that will protect you adequately (comes from my many years working with a large banking institution). All in all, though, I am almost certain that the rep would have provided this advice to you, but always make sure you are seriously ready to commit to the payment before you make it.

  • Charged for services cancelled multiple times, refusal to refund/credit

Since there is no way to reach anyone besides base-layer customer service via phone or chat, they send us here as if we can help each other get our bills fixed.
I am sick of having to activate and deactivate global data services when I am planning to the leave the country. I have nothing but problems with this process. I continue to be billed when I've scheduled an end to the service AND then called to cancel upon my return on last two occasions I used it! it's a total scam. They refuse to remedy charges even though they can see I wasn't out of the country for 5 months! I just went to add the service for February and was told it was STILL on my account from August and they "could not remove the charges" and that I should have looked at my bill. No matter how I explained that I DID look at my bill and CALLED to AGAIN remove the service, he refused to  could care less that I've been overcharged for months.

have you ever accessed your account above under My Verizon link?
to me that would be the best way  to keep track of it.. you can add the service and delete from that section.. you will also have the benefit of all transactions being logged under the history tab..
if you go there now,, does it show when you added and when you called in once you were back state side?
I would look there and see how much information you have .. and maybe start using that as your point of contact for making account changes..
and yes it is frustrating when you think you have taken care of any thing that is costing you to later find out it is still billing.. and it is hard to follow removing a service that runs by billing cycle due to the fact that we are normally contacted after the bill is issued ... but by using the above you have more control and the ability to track changes
    hope that helps

  • Charged for items I did not ask for and refuse to refund

I signed up for a bundle back in Sept of 08,  which during that time I called a few times because I was charged for channels I did not want or sign up for, they did refund those or at least parts. However now I notice that I am being charged for 6.99 home wire maintence, I did not ask for this, so I called and they said we can't refund that, I asked how long it had been and they said since sept of 08 when I signed up...however vz signed me up for paperless statements, I did not ask for that and when I look at my bill online I cannot see the wire charge unless I go to download paper bill, i thought they were the same thing as what I was seeing online, so I never loked at them- they refuse to give me my money back - they said they sent a welcome letter when I signed up witht his on it, I did not see anything about this. Anyone else have a similar problem? My friends have all had over charges with their bundles. But I do realize this goes way back, but these charges where soemthing I had to basically hunt for, they were not on my online bill that I normally see. Their supervisers refuse to help, any suggestions how to get my money back? They should not be allowed to do this to people?

Hi aa16346....hmmm? allow me to contact billing for you in order to come to a resolution. In a private message please send me your billing account number so I can look into this for you. Sorry for this frustration. Allow me to help, thanks.

  • Yet More Unreturned Equipment Charge Shenanigans from Verizon

Canceled our service because we moved somewhere without FiOS. Called twice prior to moving. Our boxes to return the equipment never arrived. Checked with my old residence multiple times, they were never delivered to the old residence. We moved a few miles away. I called Verizon immediately after moving. Asked them to resend the boxes to the new address. I was assured that the boxes would be sent. They informed me that I only needed to return the DVR box, not the router, and that a box would be sent for that purpose to my new address. After three weeks, I still hadn't received boxes - either at the old residence or at the new residence. I called again, and asked why I hadn't received the boxes. I didn't receive an answer - the agent didn't know why I hadn't received them. I asked the agent to resend the boxes. He said he couldn't resend them because there was an outstanding request for the boxes. I asked what I was supposed to do. He said I could "try checking with UPS?" Of course, UPS didn't have a solution for me. Fast forward three more weeks - no boxes, either at my old or my new residence, despite four separate requests. At this point I've called Verizon four times to get boxes delivered to return my equipment. This morning, I receive an email informing me that an unreturned equipment charge will be issued to my account. I call verizon (for the fifth time) to address this issue. I'm informed that the boxes will now be sent to me (for the fourth time, I've been told this, not including the one time I was told I could not be sent boxes becaue of the outstanding box issuance). I asked to speak with a supervisor, because I'm assuming at this point the boxes will not be sent to my address. I'm initially  refused the opportunity to speak with a Supervisor. I say I'll hold until one is available. I'm placed on hold for 10 minutes, then hung up on before speaking with a supervisor. This is preposterous. I've attempted five times to return my equipment. I've been told, among other things, that the boxes have issued, that the boxes cannot be issued, that the boxes will be issued. I've been told I only need to return the set top box, not my router. And now I have an unreturned equipment charge for an unreturned router. And I've been hung up on trying to resolve this issue. Anyone else experiencing these extremely shady practices from Verizon?

Thank you. The nearest Verizon store will take me about an hour and a half to get to, and that's simply not feasible for me given my travel and work schedule.  It's amazing that their bills have no issue reaching me, but the simple boxes I need to package my items simultaneously have been, can be, and can't be issued. I tried with UPS. They didn't know how to send it. I'll try again with a different UPS agent.

  • HT1904 Everytime I make an order I am charged twice and cannot rectify this charge please help as  refuse to play anymore. Because of these charges  please help.

I have played Funbridge  for a year at least and on all my orders I am charged twice but not given twice the time.  Please look back at my account as I jhave tried every way of contacting  to rectify this without success so refuse to pay any more until I get refunded.

First off this is a USER forums. So asking for a resolution here will not help you.
What are all of the ways that you have taken to try to get a resolution?
Have you tried going to expresslane.apple.com selecting itunes then itunes store and then the option that best matches your issue and input the information which is requested to contact itunes?
If you have done so and it has been longer than 48hrs and you still have not got a reply back,
MayBe you should then try calling Apple Support and ask if can speak to the fraud department and then I am mostly sured you would get information on that.
    Best of luck
