Install of CS4 causes Word to prompt on close of Windows

I installed CS4 Web Premium from the DVD yesterday. Afterwards, I opened Microsoft Word 2003 and hid the additional toolbars that CS4 sticks into the Word UI.
I have Word set to prompt me to save Normal.dot if it has been changed. Since I installed CS4 (including Acrobat Pro and Contribute) I get prompted to save Normal.dot every time I close Word. It doesn't matter whether I click Yes or No, the next time I launch Word it asks me again.
How can I stop this behavior (aside from disabling the prompt, which is a safety feature)?

I seem to have solved the problem! I'm using Word 2003 in XP but I assume it should work for others.
I created a new macro in Word named AutoClose containing the following:
Sub AutoClose()
NormalTemplate.Saved = True
End Sub
I did not assign the macro to a toolbar - it just saves into normal.dot.
This then stops the prompt to save the Normal template when Word is closed. However, first you have to save normal.dot otherwise the macro will be lost. To do that I added a SaveAll button to a toolbar (using Tools > Customize > Commands > File and dragged Save All to the toolbar) then clicked the new button to save normal.dot before closing Word.
Note that it doesn't matter whether "Prompt to save Normal template" is checked or not in Tools > Options > Save - it doesn't prompt either way.
I then made normal.dot read-only to ensure that it was not changed inadvertently in the future (for example to prevent any macro viruses creeping in).
Now if you ever want to re-save normal.dot (for example if you add a new macro) then click on the SaveAll button and save normal.dot with a different name (can't save as normal.dot since it's read-only) then rename back to normal.dot. In XP normal.dot resides in C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\).

  • Open File - Security Warning with Network-based Silent Install of CS4

I am attempting to run an enterprise deployment of CS4 Design Standard Edition onto a pool of WinXP Pro workstations. I placed all of the install files on a networked server running Windows 2003, and generated from there all of the requisite .xml files (install, uninstall, and override files). From this network share, I can successfully run a silent install.
HOWEVER. Multiple times (two or three) during the course of the silent install, I receive the same pop-up security warning from Windows XP (definitely an OS message, not anti-virus or other) that reads as follows:
    Open File - Security Warning
Do you want to run this file?
    Name: AIRApplicationRunner.exe
    Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
    Type: Application
    From: (server IP address)
I have tried excluding Adobe Air from the installation package, but I still receive the same security prompt. This is sufficiently a hassle to have to click through these prompts in a silent install. But more importantly I am unable to run the silent install as part of a logoff script because for all intents & purposes it is no longer a silent install (i.e. it requires user intervention). To top it off, I found when testing the logoff script the prompts are suppressed and the installation fails prior to the bulk of the installation (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign).
I'm sure that I could run the install by copying all of the files to each local workstation, but again that would defeat the purpose of an easy, network-based install. In the past I was able to install CS3 in this fashion with no troubles, which of course did not include Adobe Air.
Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to disable these security messages, or alternately, how to entirely exclude Adobe Air from the install package? I have found a VB script that is supposed to address the security warnings issue, but to run the script also requires the user to accept it at a security prompt.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I'm now able to deploy design suite premium cs4 successfully.
The issue for me was that the AirapplicationRunner installs some useless software. I worked around the issue with the Airapplicationrunner prompt by removing any apps that are installed using that method. By "removing" I mean marking that app as "donotinstall" in the deployment file. The apps I removed are these adobe codes for adobe media player, adobe.com, adobeair itself. The below is from my deploy.xml file used for the silent workflow:
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
    donotinstall
If you mark those three adobe codes as "donotinstall" the prompt never appears and the real apps get installed just fine.

  • Error Installing Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows 7: Installer Database is Corrupt

Error Message: The Installer Database is Corrupt. Please contact Adobe Customer Service.
I bought a new laptop and would like to install Dreamweaver CS4 on it. It is already running fine on my desktop, being installed back in 1/2011. Both PCs are Windows 7 but the new laptop is Windows 7 Professional.  I have downloaded the two install files ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.7z and ADBEDRWVCS4_LS1.exe multiple ways and to multiple locatons on the laptop. I've run the .exe file multiple ways and extracted to several locations besides the default (c:\users\userid\Desktop\Adobe CS4). After the extract completes and it tries to run setup I get the same message "The Installer Database is corrupt. Please Contact Adobe Customer Service" (which I did and they just gave me another download link I had already tried).
I even copied the folder with the extracted files done on my desktop (where the install had succeeded). And still got the same message when I ran setup.exe on the laptop. I tried running it with a "run as administrator" command prompt, double-clicking in Windows Explorer, start > run and the same thing happens. At least it doesn't appear that it has actually installed anything yet.
I did notice that my new PC has a program called "7-zip 9.20" installed which I do not remember installing and its install date is prior to my purchase of the PC so I'm guessing it came with it (HP Pavilion 15t running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit). The Windows 7 Desktop does not have this program installed. It is available from C|net where it has a good rating. Perhaps setup.exe does further extracting and the 7-zip program is the culprit? This is a long shot.
I searched for others with this problem and found lots of issues installing Dw CS4, but none quite like this.

Awesome! That worked! Actually I searched three folders (Program Files, Program Files (x86) & Program Data) for caps.db and found:
    c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premier Elements\caps.db (dated 9/2/2011)
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Backup\caps.db
I ignored the first one since it might be needed by the Premier Elements 10 I installed yesterday and changed the name of the other one from caps.db to barb.fix.
I changed the install folder from c:\Program Files\Adobe to c:\Program Files (x86) just in case CS4 is a 32-bit application which I had done before when installing on my Windows7 Desktop. Now that the install has completed I see that I have caps.db files dated 5/5/2014 in
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\caps\caps.db
c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\backup\caps.db (barb.fix is still there but is only 26kb vs 3291 kb for the new caps.db)
Thank-you so much! Now wish me luck when I try to open it for the first time!

Installing Photoshop CS4 from original Disk onto my new Macbook Pro.  Serial number accepted but now asks for the serial number of a previous version e.g. CS3 which I no longer keep.  How do I resolve ?

Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh?  If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized.  Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder.  Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool.  Details on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool can be found at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

  • Installed DW CS4 now can't save or open in illustrator 10 ?

I installed Dreamweaver CS4 over the weekend and today I need to do some illustrator (10) work and the program crashes on file>open and on file>save. I can load a file into dreamweaver by clicking the file name in explorer and I can do a 'save as', but I cannot directly open or save.
I am pretty sure this is a dll problem, something got overwritten when I installed Dreamweaver. Can anyone shed some light on this ?

The only thing I could find that closely resembled your issue was the following: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/321431 but it is the reverse of your situation, it has the CS4 version crashing in SP2.  Technically speaking Adobe "recommends" SP3 of Windows XP even though SP2 is listed.  I do not know if updating would possibly cause Illustrator to stop working though.
What I would recommend at this point is to contact Adobe technical support and raise this as an installation issue that the installation is not working properly and see how they handle it.  They will need access to your installation log ( KB Article explaining how to get it: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404083.html ).  Then with a trouble ticket online you can upload the log via FTP (instructions given to you during process) and then Adobe can help you out.

  • Tips for installing DW CS4

I own Creative Suite Design Premium CS3 (and all the earlier versions).
I downloaded DW CS4 Beta back during the Beta cycle, took it for a whirl and decided against upgrading.
I've now received the Design Premium CS3 to CS4 Upgrade as a gift (lucky me).
Before doing anything else I ran the CS4 Cleanup script which went OK.
I then installed the CS4 upgrade which seemed to go for hours but went smoothly.
However every time I launch DW CS4, the splash screen tells me that CS4 Beta is running (!) and prompts me for a (presumably standalone) Serial No (the Suite serial no is not accepted).
    All other apps run fine.
I've uninstalled CS4 twice, run the CS4 cleanup script twice and reinstalled CS4 but DW CS4 Beta will not go away.
I'm aware that this issue needs to be directed to Customer Service but I thought I'd first see if anyone's conquered this issue by their own means.

    Thanks Nadia.
I'm going to try one final approach by uninstalling all software detected by the CS4 Cleanup script plus I think I'll uninstall DW CS3 too. Then reinstall CS4.
As a last resort, I'll uninstall and reinstall all Adobe software.
I'm really disappointed that the CS4 Cleanup script has not properly cleaned up all the detritus left behind by the CS4 Beta.
I really don't fancy the prospect of sitting on the phone with Tech Support for an hour or two (with them flying blind and guessing the next step) given that they'll follow the same steps I've already tried.

How do i install MS Ofiice tools (Word,Excel...etc).after software upgrade

OK. Connect the BlackBerry to your PC via the USB cable and start the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
If you are asked to upgrade anything after starting the Desktop Software, cancel and don't upgrade for now.
    Click on Device > Applications.
Scroll through and find PassWord Keeper and DocumentsToGo (or WordToGo, SheetsToGo, etc.) and click to install, or press the + symbol to add those apps to your device.
Complete the ensuing prompts and they should install correctly for you.
    Good luck.

  • Is it possible to install Fireworks CS4 without other "hang-on" programs?

    Hello gentlemen,
    The question at hand is simple indeed;
Is it possible to install Fireworks CS4 without other "hang-on" programs? Especially Bridge CS4?
See the problem is were running version cue cs3, and we simply cannot shift to cs4, cause VC CS4 is not recognised by bridge cs3. Hairy yes.
Some of us need ONLY fireworks cs4, cause its miles better than cs3, but it automatically installs bridge cs4. And this kind of sucks, cause
we cant use the cs3 version cue server after that.
    Big thanks for your answers!

    It's possible to remove Bridge....

Brings up this Adobe TechNote article as the first item:

Have you tried removing the unwanted version and then, possibly, installing/repairing to the old?
If you're uncomfortable editing your registry, then WinASO has a good registry cleaner: http://www.winaso.com/ (That's for Windows. Don't know how Macs do things.)
Other than that, I suggest you contact Adobe Support.

  • I Can't Install Photoshop CS4

I download .7z file and .exe file. I run .exe file to extract all files in .7z files to C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Adobe\Photoshop. I click on Ps icon (Setup.exe) and it's doesn't do anything. I already install Photoshop CS3 Extended (try out). Something about my System :
    - General
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8200 @ 2.66GHz
Mainboard: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. P35-S3G
Windows : Windows XP Professional (5.1.2600) Service Pack 3
    - Graphics
Monitor: SyncMaster 2032BW, SyncMaster Magic CX2032GW
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT

This problem occurs because of an incomplete uninstallation - of (nearly) any of the Adobe CS4 trial products - prior to a proper serialized product installation.
After uninstalling, I simply downloaded and launched the CS4 Clean Script tool to remove some registry files that apperantly caused the conflict:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    That should fix it.
Just to be safe, I then installed Photoshop in the selective (or 'simplified') mode on my Windows PC, disabling non-essential programs.
    It's running like a clock.

  • Help installing Photoshop CS4 on aWin 8.1

I have just received my new HP laptop with Windows 8.1
I have installed Photoshop CS4, which does work BUT it causes the store and other apps to not work.
Is thee some work around I can use?  Will CS4 actually work with Win8.1 ??
    Thanks.

After I install CS4 all programs still work right.  But the Windows Apps Store and all apps shown do not work.  If I click on the Store app it appears to try to start the app but after a few seconds the screen returns to where it ws before I clickec on the Store app.
I have re-installed windows twice now since that was the only way I could get the store and apps back working.  I have contacted the HP manufacturer and they did send me a process to follow to try to correct the installation problem, but that never solved the problem.

  • Unable to install InDesign CS4

I'm the It person that has to install software for my users and here's today's headscratcher.  My user has InDesign CS2 installed and working on his XP computer.  I try to install InDesign CS4 upgrade and the installer says it can't find the previous version in the standard location.  It's there, I checked.  Anyway, I offer it the serial number that I got off Adobe's own licensing website.  The installer says nope not a valid serial number.  Remember this came from Adobe's own website, but whatever.  I install the demo version, try to license it and it still can't find the working CS2 installation and won't take the CS2 serial number.
So tell me how am I suppose to get CS4 Upgrade to install in this scenerio?

    First -- don't even ask.
All the answers are YES.  I have adequate hardware.  Brand new MacBookPro.  Lots of RAM, hard drive space. fast Intel Core Duo.
Have spent the equivalent of, I think, 143 weeks talking to Adobe (a) tech support and (b) customer support folks who all say and do the same thing:
    1) Send canned, prepacked responses that ignore your original message
    2) Act surprised to learn that the InDesign installer STILL HANGS UP WHILE "CHECKING SYSTEM PROFILE...."
    3) Recommend all kinds of bizarre, ridiculous solutions --- implying it's probably the customer's fauilt.
    4) Don't speak good English
    5) Never  check back to see if the problem is solved or the customer has decided to throw himself (and his adobe software) off a cliff
Personal judgments are totally unfair, of course.   But in the spirit of unfairness, what Adobe provides is  Adobe's unspeakable indefensible handling of this situation in specific -- and customer service in general.
Its customer base is riddled with customers who've paid for and received a NONWORKING product.  A defective product. Period.  If this were a prescription drug or a car, the govt would have ordered recalls by now.
Adobe's labrynthine, convoluted recommended "fixes"  (delete and reinstall all your Adobe products....reinstall your system software .... go stand in the rain and burn incense .... whatever) is like Ford Motor telling the customer:  "Yes, we admit the defect.  But, hey, at least we feel bad about it. Why don't you try selling your car and buying a new one."
Am a syndicated newspaper columnist.  Have already got the draft of a very funny 700-word commentary to distribute about this.  Adobe will hate it. But I'm sure we'll both get over it.
    Eeegads.
    Dear Adobe:
For the record, only  SOME of the people with the Install/Setup issue (installer freezes at about 90% while checking system profiler) have inadequate hardware. Most have adequate hardware.  We've all  read the bulletins and bulletin boards. So has Adobe.  We know it; Adobe knows it.  Adobe knows it because ALL OF US HAVE SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH ADOBE ONLY TO CONFIRM THAT (A) OUR HARDWARE IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE AND (B) THEY HAVEN'T A CLUE WHAT WE SHOULD DO.
This is one the largest software makers in the world.  They have enough programmers and engineers on their janitorial staff to fix this...make the nightmare go away.  How?  Produce a NEW installer that is not affected by whatever it is that is affecting the current one!  (I'm a genius, right?)  Or a two-part installer that first scans and fixes the obstacle, THEN installs InDesign. (I'm also flexible)
Adobe's failure to do this -- more than eight months after being made  aware of the problem -- is not one of this company's finer moments.

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall with sufficient user privileges and security stuff turned off. Your install went wrong because you didn't consider this.
