Installation Help  - From 1.3 Beta to 2.0 to 2.1

MacBook Pro under Leopard (10.5.2)
I had installed BootCamp beta while running Leopard and am currently at 1.3 Beta.
I am unable to install the 2.1 update (and have read the long thread also on this board).
I have been running Parallels as well which I installed after I had installed Bootcamp allowing me either to boot into Boot Camp or run Parallels.
Documentation indicates that I could insert my Leopard disk to update to Boot Camp 2.0 but after booting in XP SP2, the Boot Camp driver installation does not start automatically nor can Windows find the setup.exe file on the Leopard disk.
I obviously cannot update to Boot Camp 2.1 without 2.0 and just am stymied at this point. Would rather not have to delete the partition and start all over again with the installation of my Windows apps and data.
Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. MacDrive was the issue. All updated first to 2.0 and then to 2.1
I'm embarrassed because as a columnist I don't usually miss these things. That one went totally by me.

  • Installation Nightmare and no help from customer service

    I just spent July 2, 3, 5 from 11a-6p and Saturday July 6 from 8-2 waiting for installation of my fios service in my new apartment.  When i called them to let them know I was moving they insisted it was available at my new location.  When the tech got there at 2 on 7/2, the wiring was not done in the apartment and they needed the help of another type of guy who works for a sub contractor.  They called that tech, who said he was coming by the end of the day and he never showed up.  This happened again on Wednesday and Thursday.  I spent three days of my summer vacation in my house with three kids waiting for someone who had no intention of coming.  I called customer service three times and finally got a supervisor on Saturday am who told me they could not tell me if that outside contractor was ever going to show up.  They apologized, but thats it.  I asked to cancel my service and they were shocked.  I had no service anyway.  So they transfer me to a relief agent, who was also sympathetic, but told me the chances of the outside contractor showing up were slim and none and that they could schedule me for the end of the following week. That would make it two weeks with no phone/internet/tv but even worse, my vacation was over. I can't even describe how upset I am about losing precious time with my three small children.  They finally showed up as I was walking out the door with the three kids to go to the beach and they came walking in.  I have not received any kind of help from customer service other than for them to tell me they have no control over their subcontrator. I don't know what to say other than it was  a total nightmare. For what I pay for service for the past five years I expected a lot more of them

    Ihotka, if you have a problem w/QT's refund process you should post your concerns over @ QuickTime Feedback.

  • GETTING RID OF TRUSTED INSTALLER DELETING FROM REGISTRY

    I tried to answer to another thread with a similar title and it has been locked..I wonder why? Of course not is obvious,Microsoft is peeved off.
    The post started with this :
    Has ANYBODY found an effective and easy-to-understand way to disable (decapitate, exterminate, disembowel) windows 7 'TrustedInstaller'?? This has to be, by FAR, one of the WORST devices MS has ever come up with. I wouldn't even be aware of it's existence,
    if it had not been for it turning my OS processing into peanut butter sludge on so many occasions. And now, it appears to be interfering with adding legitimate 3rd party procedures and add-ons. It is a gargantuan CPU SUCK, and it doesn't appear to accomplish
    ANYTHING that couldn't be accomplished w/ a combination of Win DEFENDER and UAC permissions. I did hear somebody comment, on another forum, that it "protects your system from making damaging changes to itself....blah, blah". Well, a howitzer will probably
    be effective at killing flies, too, but is that the approach you want to take? What bothers me is that the PINHEAD who came up with this one, is probably kicking it in a plush MS office right now, and WORSE YET, will probably be making FUTURE decisions on
    OS's. (Yeah, just when you thought the fun was over....)
    This 'trusted installer' is a disease, and it is about time that Microsoft DID THE RIGHT THING by their customers and came up with an appropriate fix! But while we are waiting for Microsoft to do the right thing (I'm sure there's no hurry there....!) Is there
    ANY way to terminate this process?? And I mean 'terminate...with EXTREME prejudice'.
    Gratitude in advance to anyone who can help
     ( By someone calling themselves smccfly007)
    I TOTALLY AGREE with this person.
    Now I want to ask,what would happen if I delete trusted installer.exe from the registry? Would I automatically gain access to the programs this thing takes control of?
    I mean it is stopping me from moving Notepad to my desktop,for years I had windows vista and I have always had  the notepad on my desktop....if I try to put a shortcut of Notepad on the desktop is telling me that I need permission from trusted installer.YOU
    GOTTA BE FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!  This is just another feature of freaking BigBrother is Watching you!
    It annoys me that some clever big wigs think adding this features is clever or of any use....another symptom of why this world is upside down.
    SERIOUSLY if anyone at all can provide me with a real solution to this please come forward,I ain't a computing expert so need step by step explanation but.......I want rid of this freaking virus.
    Like mr 007 which post I pasted above any help will be greatly appreciated.
    By the way I am a lady.

    So apparently you did not read the post very well. Trusted installer is stupid at best. Before windows 7 this was not a thing and computers all over the world did not end....... I do not have a tried an true way cutting out this tumor that is keeping from
    deleting things like background pictures how ever here are the steps to taking control over the stupid thing. It sucks I know but better slow than windows getting to do what it wants.
    1. Go to the folder that contains the file or Folder whose ownership you want to change.
    2. Right Click of mouse on that file or Folder and Choose “Properties“.
    3. Navigate to “Security”
    tab.
    4. Click on “Advanced” on
    the Security tab to open the Advance security setting for the file.
    5. On the Owner ; Click on “Change“.
    6. Click on “Advanced” on
    the open “Select User or Group” Window.
    7. Click on “Find Now” on
    the open Window.
    8. It will show you all the available user on the Search results.
    9. Now select the user that you want to give the ownership and click on “OK“.
    10. Again Click on “OK” on
    the “Select User or Group” to change the ownership.
    11. Now the Ownership for that file or folder is changed.
    12. Now apply all the changes and Click on OK and close all the open Window.
    13. That is it.
    Again I am sorry it is only a treatment not a cure.
    BTW if you are going tell us about what its purpose is WE DON'T CARE. we lived fine without it before and now it is just causing stupid problems.
    I will keep looking and let you know what i come up with.

  • LACK OF HELP FROM BT

    Does anyone else share my frustration with BT for their lack of help over setting up their Home Hub 5 (HH5)?
    I have just taken out an Infinity contract and had my new HH5 installed.
    I have some fairly basic requirements for setting up my home network.
    I couldn't undertake the set-up myself based on the (scant) information provided with the HH5.
    I couldn't get any meaningful help from BT by chat or by phone. Mostly they wanted to tell me that this was not their problem but mine.
    I couldn't get a manual from them - because apparently there isn't one
    I can't seem to find the answer on this forum (which is fine: why should a general member of the public know more about the HH5 than BT who supply it?)
    Essentially, I have gone from having a slow internet connection with an efficient in-house set up to having a fast internet connection with such an inefficient in-house set-up that I can't take advantage of the extra line speed.
    Anyone else got anything similar to report?

    Thank you again john46.
    I am very grateful for the help that people are trying to give me. (not so grateful for the comments of others - not you) that simply imply the problems I am experiencing are my fault or the fault of my devices when my tests suggest otherwise.
    I find it really kind that people with no afiliation to BT are willing to give up their time to help me (and others).
    However, I still can't believe that it is entirely responsible and ethical for a large organisation like BT to provide me with some equipment with no manual and with no technical help and then when it doesn't work to say 'computer says no', and then to suggest that I would get better help by looking on the forum.
    I've checked out your link on printers and almost the first thing it says is that to prevent them becoming 'lost' the first thing you should do is to give them a static address. To do this, I need to 'see' the printer first. Even though the printer will initially print from my PCs whilst still invisible on the network, it eventually gets lost and the only way to solve it getting lost is to re-start the router.
    If it is all my fault and it is not possible to use the HH5 as my router (if that is the correct term for the bit that runs the home network), my next course of action will be to ask BT to supply one of their original VDSL modems and to connect my original DrayTek router to that - I know the home network worked fine with that. Unfortunately, when I asked BT if this is possible, they said that if I didn't ask for a separate modem when I placed the order I am not able to change to one now.
    So: for whatever reason (whoever's 'fault' it is), I have a HH5-based home network that doesn't work. I would like to fix it. But the 'Catch 22' is that no one in BT can help sort the HH5-based home network and it 'isn't their problem anyway', no one on the forum has been able to help yet, and BT will not provide an alternative set of equipment to allow me to access Infinity and still maintain my home network in a manner that used to work perfectly before I contracted to BT.
    Where do I go now?

  • How to (make best) use external js library from html object (need help from dev)

    Ok, on another discussion about rotating full screen backgrounds slideshows, i was orientated to try a small lib named "backstrech"
    I throw myself in, and i really like what we can do with it.
    To use it simply, just make an html object and paste this in :
    <script src="http://musecdn2.businesscatalyst.com/scripts/4.0/jquery-1.8.3.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="assets/jquery.backstretch.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script>
      $.backstretch([
          "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/outside.jpg"
        , "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/garfield-interior.jpg"
        , "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/cheers.jpg"
      ], {duration: 3000, fade: 750});
    </script>
    then add the jquery.backstretch.min.js to your "downloaded files" (file menu > files to download)
    And you’re done.
    Now, i need some help from better developers.
    As you can see, my first line is a call to jquery, the same that we find later in Muse exported code.
    Reason 1 : without this line, jquery is not defined and the plugin won’t work.
    This raises 2 issues :
    - We load twice the same ressource which is useless (100k)
    - loading js is all about having the page hangs while it loads, hence, they are put at the end of the body.
    Does anybody know a way to load this particular html script AFTER we are sure the muse scripts (esp. jquery) have been loaded ?
    (in the Edge Animate world, i’d go for the yepnope, and put it at the right place in the code, though, here i have no access to page load structure except head)
    PS : in addition to that, i made an exported page/excluded from navigation where i put all the images i wanted for the background, i could then simply change the images lines :
    , "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/garfield-interior.jpg"
    to
    , "images/my_image_name_as_in_ressources.jpg"

    Got it, there was a bug in my code. Here is what you do:
    1. Download the js file https://raw.github.com/srobbin/jquery-backstretch/master/jquery.backstretch.min.js
    2. In Muse: Go to File -> Add Files for Upload and add the script file
    3. Open Page Properties -> Metadata -> HTML for <Head>
    Paste this code in:
    <script>
    window.onload = function() {
    var loaded = function() {
      $.backstretch([
          "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/outside.jpg"
        , "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/garfield-interior.jpg"
        , "http://dl.dropbox.com/u/515046/www/cheers.jpg"
      ], {duration: 3000, fade: 750});
    //Load the plugin:
    var head= document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0];
    var script= document.createElement('script');
    script.type= 'text/javascript';
    script.onreadystatechange = loaded;
    script.onload = loaded;
    script.src= 'assets/jquery.backstretch.min.js';
    head.appendChild(script);
    }; //Window OnLoad
    </script>
    4. Preview or Publish = Done!

  • Re: Satellite L40 PSL48E: Can I create a installation disk from Vista partition

    Hi,
    my Satellite L40 PSL48E came with a Vista recovery partition.
    As I despise Vista I bought a replacement drive and installed a new hard-drive and installed XP pro.
    I retained the original drive in case i ever had to claim under warranty.
    I now find that due to work commitments I have to occsionally use the despised Vista rubbish and wonder if it is possible to create a Installation disk from the partition on the original drive so tha ti can create a dual boot system on my new drive.
    I am very reluctant to BUY a new Vista CD since I already have a fully legal copy on a drive which I am not using and I will only use it VERY rarely for this one work commitment.
    Any information gratefully received
    Thanks Ron

    OK and thanks.
    My next problem is this. I have XP on the main partition and WinRE on the hidden partition. How the heck do I get at the hidden partition. I don't have any boot disks ( none were provided with the machine when I bought it new. Pressing F8 only takes me the the normal XP options Safe boot boot as normal etc.
    I've tried f10 and f12 and f11 tas I've seen these suggested on a few newsgroup posts. Anyone got any ideas please.
    Toshiba Recovery Disc creatoe seems to be the key from what i read but if this is not present how do i get to the hidden partition and run it?
    HELP please. How i hate the fact that manufacturers don't provide a proper CD or DVD anymore it is a right PITA.

  • Unable to install CS5.5 on Mac Yosemite: the installer is from an unidentified developer.[was: i just bought a new macbook]

    I have just got a new macbook which I would like to download my copy of CS5.5 onto. It doesn't have a disc insertion section section so I downloaded CS5 from the adobe website. However I can't install it because my computer says the installer is from an unidentified developer. Can you help please?

    That's Apple OS X's Gatekeeper kicking in.
    Control+click the downloaded file and click Open to manually tell OS X that you trust the file and it's OK to open it.

  • How to run adt.bat created installer silently from command line?

    All,
    I totally get how to create an installer like so:
    adt -package -target native c:\AirExe\myApp.exe c:\AirExe\myAirApp.air
    Is it possible to run the installer silently from the command line?  Part of our smoke test process is to do nightly builds which would include the adt command above.  What we're missing right now is automatically copying the installer to a QA machine and silently install from the command line.  Currently, we have a QA engineer manually running the GUI installer.
    We want to automate as much of our process as possible and without installing silently from the command line, we're kind of dead in the water for automating this process.  Thanks...
    Matt

    Spent an hour last Friday on hold with Adobe support, bounced around to 4 different CSR's and no love getting my question answered.
    I spent part of my weekend solving this.  I'm sure there are other solutions, but here goes:
    1) Downloaded the 7-Zip utility from here: http://www.7-zip.org/
    2) Added c:/Program Files/7-Zip to my path (this helped with interactive testing from the command line)
    3) Made the following edit to my ant build.properties file:
         a) 7_ZIP_HOME=C:/Program Files/7-Zip
    4) Made the following edit to my ant build.xml file:
         a) <exec executable="${7_ZIP_HOME}/7z.exe">
               <arg line="x build/INSTALLER_CREATED_WITH_ADT.exe -obuild -y"/>
             </exec>
    Hope this saves someone else a little time...

  • After automated update from Firefox 4 beta to RC I lost my profile

    After this morning automated update from Firefox 4 beta to the RC the browser created a new profile without importing the existing one .
    So, please help me to recover my data.

    ''it looks like the new version creates the default profile in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ I've copied the files from the older location (C:\Users\My _user\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\) and the problem is solved.''
    ''if this is the intended behaviour, it sucks!''
    This is not normal behavior. The default Firefox profile folder should still be located here, on Windows Vista: <br>
    C:\Users\< user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>.
    <br>ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox#Windows
    Restart the computer and make sure you are logged into Windows as the correct user, by entering '''%USERPROFILE%''' into the Windows Start Menu "Start Search" box. Once you are sure you are logged in as the correct user, try starting Firefox again and see if you are using the old Firefox profile folder (go to Firefox -> Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Open Containing Folder")
    You can also create a new Firefox profile with a unique name - see [[Managing profiles]] - then find the new profile folder and use the instructions here to copy over your data:
    [[Recovering important data from an old profile]] (It's better to only copy selected data and reinstall your needed extensions).

    I just got a mini mac, and I re-install everything, updates new OS to 10.5.6 from apple and everything works fine.
    However, when I tried to install the "Stuffit Expander 2009", I got the error message saying "Missing Critical Component. Installer help application missing."
    Could somebody help me? I am new to MAC.....
    I'd really appreciate the help.
    Thanks

    I just got the same message. I downloaded an Expander 2009 .dmg from VersionTracker.com and it installed just fine - give that a shot.

  • Need help from Blackberry - Can't register 9860 in BB network.

    Yesterday I have bought a 9860 torch from an online auction site in Romania. The phone is looking great, working great, except I cannot register it on the blackberry network, in order to use an internet data plan. As soon as I turned the phone on, the yesOPTUS carrier logo appeared on the screen, indicating that this device once belonged to someone in Australia. My carrier is Orange Romania and I am using it on a pre-paid SIM card with the "blackberry unlimited 4" internet option that Orange offers in Romania. When I try to go to Host Routing Table in the phone's menu, there is nothing displayed there. I tried to send the registration message and remove the battery (while the decice is ON) and put it back in, with no result. I have spent a day on the phone with the data plans support team at Orange Romania, virtually troubleshooting every possibility to connect the device to the bb network - they even created a bb access point specifically for my phone number - everything without result. When I tried to create a blackberry account on blackberry.orange.ro with my PIN and IMEI, the page replied that my account is disabled and that I should contact my carrier. Which I did. And they said that I should either talk to Blackberry or yesOPTUS, as there is a possibility that my device is already registered with the BB network on the yesOPTUS, from it's first owner back in Australia, and that my PIN may need to be erased from a database in order to be re-synced with my carrier. The way I see it, it's either that, or Orange does not carry the 9860 in their network (yet?). The certain fact is that I ended up with a beautiful device that I can't use to it's fully potential. Any help from Blackberry is fully appreciated. Thanks.

    Optus is in the only one that can remove the PIN/IMEI from their system. You need to contact them.
    If the device has been reported lost or stolen, they won't remove it.

  • Getting Help from Mac?

    How does anyone get help from Mac? I've listed four questions with not a single suggestion or opinion. I'm not able to find a way to contact tech-help or any email address to discuss any problem with apple software. Reading the threat, if apple doesn't like my comments or question I'm out of here doesn't instill a warm feeling. I've doubled the cost of my MAC with the software I've added. But if I don't talk nice you will drop me? How about you provide some help to fix your software problems and I will compliment you on how great you are. My home is in Atlanta but I am stationed overseas hence I can not make phone calls.

    Hi Jerry,
    If I have questions about using my computer I first check the Mac Help items, as you have done. I then do a web search as probably somebody has encountered the problem before. Even these discussions get included in the searched sites, and I have seen my own posts appear in a matter of minutes. There are other sites where Mac users post questions so there is a pretty large set of answers out there. Finally, if I don't see an answer anywhere I post a question here on the appropriate forum.
    You should realize that the forums are populated almost exclusively by other Mac uers and not Apple employees, but you still get pretty good answers by people who have been using Macs for years and years. Sometimes you'll stump us, but if you provide complete background information in your question I will usually see somebody take a stab at it.
    One thing you should note is that the Discussions, and even this Forum, is not an effective way for direct feedback to Apple about customer service, etc. (this feedback forum is for feedback about the Discussions). I almost never see an Apple employee respond on the Discussions since it is intended as a consumer to consumer interface. There are better ways to contact Apple itself listed on the [site map|http://www.apple.com/sitemap>.
